MBJ - I know what you mean about the kinky hair. My sister was about 16 months out from chemo when she got married. Her hair was about chin length and looked really good. It was still curly, but looked pretty. So, there is hope!!!
We have a lot of wig places here in Vegas, but that one you talked about in LA sounds intriguing!!!

I cannot believe prices of Your wigs. I paid $1400 for human hair and $700 for synthetic one in Canada. There was no way I could go cheaper unless I would use them for Halloween. I got $1000 back from Blue Cross, but still.
My eyelashes are really coming back, same with my eyebrows. No hair underarms and sparse hair on my legs. My hair is still fuzzy, but it looks like a good coverage.
I saw GP yesterday and got prescription for Rogaine for 5%. Is that too strong? My DH was with me and he was insisting for 5% (my GP wanted to try 2%). I think my DH was hoping he would use it.

Isn't hair insane? My eyelashes are almost all out, eyebrows are slowly starting to fill again, and I have a pretty solid covering I buzzed. Underarm hair totally back with aplomb.
My insurance absolutely would not pay for a wig. There was no way with all the other expenses ($2000 annual deductible, OTC meds, naturopathic stuff) that I could afford the expense of it!
Who knows if it's working, but I'm taking fish oil, Horsetail 3,000 mg / day (when I remember) and using 2% zinc shampoo every other day (hair is dry, don't want to overwash).
I thought about Rogaine, but its got a lot of synthetic stuff in it. Did anyone's onc speak to that? I'm a scardey cat.

mhp70: Your insurance doesn't cover the wigs???? That is just wrong!

My insurance didn't cover wigs either
I did not want a real hair wig after hearing you still had to wash and style them, but have loved the wig concept. At the same time am ready to fight the hair again. 3 more chemos and I will be on this thread every day!
Thanks to all who are taking time to post hair pics, this is so fun.

Fun, there's a word you don't hear often around here. Keep up the great spirit, Elaineg! I found that my sense of humour has kept me sane on this roller coaster.0

I am seeing onc next week and would ask him about Rogaine. According to my GP is safe. MBJ You were using it?

Hi all! Thought I'd share a funny but not story for those in need of a distraction...
So Although my hair is growing in it is not pretty as may of you can relate so I am still wearing my wig. I have a real wig which I love blond with caramelish lowlights and a synthetic dark brown that itches the crap out of me and of course my Ravens Purple wig for game day! Anyhow, so I said a few post back how my puppy gets sad when I put my good wig on cause he knows that means I am heading out...so last night I had male/friend company so I was wearing it but as soon as he left I took of my wig and set it down on my coffee table..then my kitty started playing with it so I was like I better move this..but of course putting it upstairs on it's stand was way too much effort. So today I am running around then had to head out to meet my trainer (yes getting my butt back in shape if it kills me) . She had not seen me since my surgery so I didn't want to shock her by going in with my curly haired mullet. So I look HIGH and LOW can NOT find the wig anywhere...I am in tears frantically routing through the house in search of it...certain that Sadie or Charlie took it to keep me from going out...as always my pets watched me and must have thought She's completely lost it now! Ohhhh I looked in the ..trash the dryer ..under the sofa..in the cushions of the chairs under my bed in my puppy's crate So after looking everywhere I tried to calmly retrace my footsteps from last night ....and I remembered I put the wig out of reach from the pets... where was that out of reach place I put it...35 minutes later I FOUND IT on the top shelf inside my bookcase..you know so the pets won't get it! ! UGH I had to chuckle to myself as I put it on and walked out of the house. My poor puppy and kitty...they were like "we didn't take it we swear!" I will put it away properly from now on I can not afford to lose this one.
Happy Hair Growing ....

DiDel I love that! You would think we could designate one place for things and always put them there but no! I love the visual of you looking for your hair, at least you didn't lose your keys as well!
I have a guilty pleasure, watching Jersey Shore. I blame it on my kids but I actually like it. You would have to see the show to get this, but I sing "its hair time" as I get my hair on and head out the door...
The Jersey Shore kids sing its tee shirt time, ie put on a fresh shirt right before going out. Like I said, you really have to have seen it, and since I assume we are all adults here I am not betting on that

Side and Front views of latest hair growth...last chemo on Aug 5. It's coming along, but I do wish it would grow faster. Every other part of my body is growing hair back with a vengeance...noticeably my FACE, with these lovely sideburns, or my "beard" as I like to call it

You look beautiful!

And elaineg - I love the Jersey Shore connection!!! Hilarious!! Instead of GTL, we all do HMJ (Hair, Makeup, Jewelry) to keep up with ourselves0

You look beautifull MelBell07. Lots of hair. My last chemo was end of Sept. so You are my hope in 8 weeks I would be at that stage.
I just got delivered 5%Minoxidil in prop gly:ethanol. I guess there is no other ingredients when is on prescription. should I use it or no? I could just give it to my DH, he can use it.

MelBell: Beautiful, so thick and dark, great coverage. And I too love your brows. Mine are about gone, my last chemo was Monday, and brows & lashes are gone, gone ... that bugs me more than being bald! I am dark too (eyes/hair) so it looks really weird to not have my brows and lashes.

MelBell, you look great! Nice brows and lashes, too. Rock those earrings, girl.0

Thanks ladies!! I think I was more upset about my brows and lashes too. At least with no hair on the head, you can hide it better. But once my brows and lashes started coming in, they grew in pretty quickly. I was lucky that once they grew in, they stayed in. I'm wondering if my hair will eventually curl once it gets longer?

I think when I lost my brows and lashes that was the last straw. I could take being bald in stride but losing them was the worst.

MelBel: You look gorgeous. I envy you the straight hair. I went to my stylist today and it took her 2 hours to just cut and style it. Mine grows straight up !
Yes, I do use Rogaine-for men!

This is my second time on chemo and was told the stuff Im on may stop my hair growing back all together so i was really worried. Anyway by the 6th week after my last chemo my leg hair started to grow . Im 9 weeks in and my whole head has about 1/2 inch of hair growing very quickly. My eyelashes and eyebrows are all growing really quickly also. Once it starts you will see a difference every week, but be patient it took me 4 months last time until I could go out without my wig. Im looking to feb next year to going without my horrible wig again. I finished chemo begining of October. Hope this helps. Oh and to help growth eat really well, veg and stuff lots of iron intake and vit D .

jenilo - so glad your hair is growing back. Sorry you had to go thru chemo twice. I think we all kinda secretly fear that. How did you handle it?
I had my first Mammogram yesterday, since diagnosis over a year ago. All clear - YAY! It's so nice to have this year behind me.
Love the hair MelBell. You look great! I had my son take some pictures while visiting him on Thanksgvg but we can't find them. Will try again, it's time to change my avatar. I'm going out wig-less more and more but it's cold here, so I wear a cap - then that really does a number on my hair. When I take it off in the store and I notice people staring I know I have the 'cupie' thing going on. Ha! Never dull - hey ladies?

Question: For those of you taking Biotin, how much is recommended? I bought a bottle that has 1000mg but I'm not sure if that's to much. Any thoughts?
0 -
Thanks MBJ and ECT I'm starting to get cowlicks though, so I'm going to have to figure something out. It's cold here too - I should wear a cap but I've been stubborn. After wearing hats all summer, I'm sick of it!

Melbel....you look FANTASTIC...I hope it stays straight for you, mine starting coming in straight JUST like that and it has just suddenly starting getting curly...wtf? haha oh well, I'm just SO happy to have hair.
You look great

Thanks ladym I'm happy to have hair too, no matter what it looks like. I'll let you know if it decides to curl on me...I'm thinking it may. I used to have wavy/somewhat curly hair before, but I'll just have to wait and see.
