KimLovesDachshunds-  Congratulations on completing your treatment and your new hair growth!  My mom started shedding on day 21, the day of her 2nd treatment.  We had planned to shave her head over Thanksgiving while I there visiting.  By Sunday her hair was thinner, but she still had a full head of hair and wasn't quite ready to part with it.  I won't be visiting again until her next treatment so my dad will have to shave her head when the time comes. The hair loss has been harder for my mom than the mastectomy was.  I wish we could fast forward to a year from now and life will be somewhat normal again.

    Love and hugs to you!

Hi Nikola,  it is still fine, but filling in ever-so-slowly.  I've been clipping it with a 1/8" buzzer, it looks neater and more punk rock for my overall "look" until it grows in even!

ladym13: you look amazing with short hair, you can totally rock the short hair look!

nikola: I am also 9 weeks PFC and my hair looks pretty much exactly like yours!

ladym13, My hair is just a bit shorter than yours and the "style" is very similar (yours is a bit straighter).  I like your hair color.  I'm going dark with mine. You look really good!  :)

Nicola, you have a nice even coverage.  Congrats on the growth. It's so nice to have hair (even though I won't wear mine in public yet).

My hair grew in evenly.  I thought it was going to be straight at first, but it is really curly.

We didn't do "hair night" yet.  I wasn't in the mood to have my hair dyed.  I got home a bit later from Costco and my hubby brought home dinner  - Pei Wei - one of my favorites!  Tomorrow night will be hair night!!!!! Then, my hair will be longer than my hubby's because I'm going to buzz his!  :)

kittycat:  I was so relieved when my husband got his hair cut and mine was finally longer then his!  Color will make you feel alot better, though it might stain your head for a bit.  Are you going to use a natural color?

I've already colored my hair with a dye I got at Sally's.  I just need to color it again.  I have a ton of gray coming in and my hair is growing pretty fast (thank God).  My onco said it was okay to dye my hair.  I couldn't stand the gray.  One of my friends used the natural stuff she got at Whole Foods.  She said it was awful and smelled like poop.  Did you use the natural stuff?

I was looking at some pics of my hair and I'm getting hair envy!  I decided to post a pic of it in m profile from the "old days" - LOL!  And I used to curse my hair all the time.  It's very fine and kind of fuzzy, so I had to round brush it every day!

Wow, I had a lot of catching up to do. You guys have really been busy on the board. Over a week gone and I feel like I don't know anything that's going on.

Lady M -  Love your hair, I'm just a little behind you by about 3 weeks or so, however my hair has a couple of places that are just untameable. Is that a word?

Marion your pix were great! It gives me hope, I have the wavy thing going on now but need length badly. I only wore my wig once while in Texas. Even had a compliment while standing in the very long line for security at the airport. Don't know why its so hard to believe people think it looks good. I just think they know, she must have had chemo. Now isn't that cynical?

MBJ - yes, you could definitely be the 'beauty tip' gal for this thread. You've got the info. and your so good to share with us. So what does one do for the unruly 'cowlick'? Got one on the top right of my head and all the gel in the world doesn't seem to tame it. LOL, sitll I really am tired of the wig and going more allnatur'ell.Cool Sometimes w the sunglasses to hide behind. Ha

kittycat:  I used the Nutri something dye from Whole Foods and it doesn't smell as nasty but it's expensive!  I had been dying my own hair on and off for years plus I get a Sally's discount so I like my inexpensive beauty products!   It works as well as anything else I have used.  I am looking into the new L'Oreal product that is oil based and more conditioning then water based dyes.  It's called Ion something.  Sorry, it's early, can't have coffee and the brain doesn't work without it.

ECT:  I have been plagued with cowlicks for years and the only thing that works is a blowdryer, a vented brush, lots of products and a flat iron.  Also, a good hair stylist that knows how to cut it.  You kind of just have to go with it.  If I didn't do this I would have what I call "trailer trash" hair--it would go side ways, backwards and with weird parts sticking up out of nowhere like I just got out of bed and didn't brush it. LOL.  It's major panic when the blowdryer breaks or the power goes out around here!

I went in today to get my hair cut. It was straight and had no personality. (I am 14 months from finishing chemo). I wanted to get it spiked. As my hairdresser started layering it we noticed the curls coming back. ( I had tight natural curly hair before chemo) I think the length was holding the curls down. I have went from the whitest of hair like soft down to coarse gray hair with waves to poker straight to curls. From being totally bald to curls again finally, its been a long year.

Thx for the tip MBJ - will try the blowdryer, I don't have enough hair to get around a vent brush. And today I bought a tube of the pantene you suggested - I think. It's weightless bodybuilding (extra strong) maybe that'll help put the cows down. :-)

I also bought the Biotin but wasn't sure how much mcg's to get. I bought 1000 - is that to much?

I went to another wig place and tried on some short wigs. I look really dumb in the short wigs. I look better with my chemo hair! I decided that I either look good in dark brown hair with red highlights or blonde hair with dark roots (and a little warmth to it). Anything ashy looks awful on me. I wish my wigs weren't all ratty. Did anyone get their wigs steamed? My friend tried it, but she wasn't completely satisfied. I don't know.

Kittycat:  Have you gone to your wig place for advice?  I know mine sells a product specifically for wigs that's supposed to make it look nicer.  I don't know what it's called though.  Sorry I can't be much more help.

ECT:  When my hair was super short I didn't bother with the blowdryer.  I just used Marc Anthony Straight and finger styled it and combed my bangs flat against my forehead and however I styled it it stayed put.  Once it got longer it became harder to manage.  Also, to get hair to behave with a blowdryer, especially cowlicks, your hair needs to be really wet when you start.  I also had to use a ton of product but the longer it got the less I had to use individually but I still use 5 or 6 products.  I should invest in Sally's beauty supply!

    kittycat- thanks for the compliment

The place where I bought my wigs were SO helpful, I have three wigs, one short, one medium and one really long (human hair) one.

The synthetics ones I always get steamed, I would take them in and they steamed them after conditioning them with something.

They always smelled great and looked great, the human hair one is a little more work obviously because it's hair, but I love that, being able to wash it, dry it, flat iron it makes me feel like I still have my hair.

LadyM13 I had a human hair and synthetic wig. My real hair wig was $1200 and my synthetic was $350 I wished I never bought the synthetic one I rarely wore it. I started wearing my wig in April and I am still wearing it. I have had it cut 4 times this last time shoulder length and styled to match my pre chemo hair. I love it now FINALLY! My hairdresser is also a very good friend and she has done so much for me no charge. I took it to her one day when I thought it was looking ratty and she did a good conditioning. Now it is super soft and healthy looking. I swear I went to the onc and the NP said oh you didn't lose your hair during treatment?? Most people have no idea its a wig. The synthetic one is itchy and looks like a wig. My hair is very thick curly and completely unmanageable. BUT if I put my wig knit cap on for like an hour after i dry it and then it flattens it out then I add gel and style it a bit with my fingers and helps make it look like hair not complete fuzzball. blow drying it only makes it thicker and more unamangeable. I wonder what my pets think of me as they see me with my fuzzy morning hair, my curly mullett post shower, my knit cap head to flatten it then I put blonde wig on to go out in public.  My puppy gets all sad when I put the wig on cause then he knows mommy is going out! LOL

    Have a good night everyone

My wig place steams wigs.  I'm going to try it.  What do I have to lose???  I have received a lot of compliments on my wigs.  2 people from 2 different wig shops did not know I was wearing a wig!!!  And I was wearing 2 different wigs (both Rene of Paris monafilament cap wigs).  I just need to get them soft again!!  :)

DiDel- That is hilarious, because my dog also sees me with all my different styles...and probably thinks wtf?

My boyfried thinks it's great, he says it's like having four different girlfriends...lmao

My real hair one was $2,300....ouch, but SO worth it, I agree, I almost never wear the synthetic one, one you have a human hair one, it is SO hard to put on a synthetic one.

Now that I have sideburns again, it's nice that I can wear the wig in different styles, poneytails and such.

Well, prior to dx, I had a dream that I my hair was falling out by handfulls.  Perhaps it's something more than subconcious.  Some things can't be explained, call it premonition or intuition or whatever.  But that's a good dream, so we'll watch for a full head of hair on you to show up soon!

ladym13 - I love having sideburns, too!  I have to color in the gray now.   I got this product at Sally's called Tween (or something like that).  It's like a big crayon to draw on my gray growth on my sideburns and anywhere else where my hair peaks out!  :)

I forgot to mention that I took my blonde wig into be steamed today.  We'll see if it works.  If it does, I'm taking my other one in that I got at that wig place.

I'm beginning to really like my new brunette wig.  It's a cheapy, but I love the cut.  I switched the part because my left eye waters a lot, so I'm covering up that side with the long bangs.  However, I have a vertical wrinkle near the right eye, so I don't know which would be better to cover up!  LOL!!!

Kittycat:  You're hair is growing in!  Yay for you!!!  I have two monofilament real hair wigs and one synthetic monofilament.  They were all shoulder length though and didn't cost more then $300 each.  The first one looks really ratty now but the other two I hardly wore.  Great for halloween one day.  The brows and lashes grow in fairly quickly.  Get some Falsies mascara by Maybeline.  It's awsome.

MBJ - How did you get a real hair monafilament wig for only $300???  One of the wig places I found has a real hair (lace front) wig for $340. I was tempted to buy it.  It looked really good on, but got the lace front synthetic one instead (it's my "cheapy" wig - only $69).  Thanks for the info on the mascara!!!  :)

Kittycat:  There is an amazing place that all of the studios here use and they were much less expensive then anywhere else.  It was the second place that I went and they were easily $200 less then the first place I looked and they only had synthetic.  I also got a cheapy real hair wig there for $65 but it has a "seam" where the part would be, not like the others.  Sometimes I just want to go back to wearing wigs as they are so much nicer then my real hair.  Especially this weird, kinky, chemo hair.  A nurse told me today that I was lucky it was coming in so thick.  She said many have it come in kinky but sparse.  I get it cut tomorrow.  I am going to ask her about straightening it.
