ECT - good looking young man. My hair looks simliar to his :-)

ECT, Your son is very handsome and You look pretty with that style.

ECT - My hair did the same thing - curled up and stuck up like weird Julius Caesar hair.
I think I was contributing to the look by running my hands UP my hair and pulling/tugging on the back. I couldn't help it - after not having hair it felt good to do this. This gave me quite the poofy faux hawk!
Now I use a round brush and blow dry it with Frizz Ease Style Sealant Creme http://www.johnfrieda.com/products/product_detail.asp?productLine=frizz_ease&pid=102
I have always had curly hair and I used to use this product to make my hair smoother. I live in BC and it's rainy most days which means lots of frizzy hair. I can't comment on any of the other products mentioned on here but this really works for my hair.
My PFC hair is coming in so thick, it's drier (gray hair is usually courser) and has a much tighter curl to it. At first I didn't know what to do with it.
A couple of things I'm doing now 10 months PFC to help my hair look better - I only wash my hair every other day and leave a longer time between trims.
Here is how my hair looked right after my last trim (end of October):
I couldn't really do anything with it so I just put a bit of Moroccan Oil in it and went with the curls!
This is how it looks today:
For those of you whose hair is now starting to grow - hang in there. I remember "feeling" the wind in my hair (aka stubble) before I actually could see it!
My family thought I was nuts and having phantom hair feelings!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their posts. You all look wonderful! I'm glad to read posts of those who have had ooph right after chemo and getting hair back. I am BRCA+ and after 2 more rounds of TC I'll have an ooph. The taxotere does concern me, I won't lie, since I read a few people have trouble with hair growth. But the ooph scares me too, because of instant menopause and the effect on hair growth. So it's good to hear from those who've had this. At 43, my doc says hair thinning has a lot to do with age and I would agree, but hope the lack of hormones doesn't add to it. Being triple negative, you'd think I'd be able to have a little hormone therapy but my BRCA2 status dictates otherwise since it's mostly supposed to produce ER+ cancer.
Anyway, again you all look so great!

LadyM: I purchased Marc Anthony Straight at RiteAide of all places! Inexpensive, too. I still use it but only to piece it out after blowdrying it using the Paul Mitchell Skinny gel and Sexy Straight de-frizzer.

hrf: Check out 183 Topical Solution by Xenna. If you are also taking drugs that stop estrogen this can up the chemicals that cause hair loss and this is a natural solution that will help you keep your hair. I recommend using it with the Nioxin products, Minoxidyl, Biotin 10 mg. I use all of thesse and it helps keep my hair, otherwise I have lots of fall out and I am not taking estrogen stopping drugs. Hugs.
Kelben: The last hair to grow in, according to my stylist, are the baby hairs all around the face. I am just getting these back after being almost 10 months post chemo and also after two surgeries.
ECT: you look great!!! very cool, hip and now!
I am all cowlicks--my hair when I get out of the shower, comb it straight down and it all sticks straight out from the sides like a clown. I am sooooo over it!

MBJ,what is 183 Topical Solution? I am also on Minoxidyl 5%, Biotin and silica.
I am getting very itchy around my face (I have lace front wig). I am 13 weeks post chemo and yesterday I almost went without wig. Yesterday was first time my husband told me it looked fine to go without it. My son is 7 and when I told him mommy would cut her hair he was upset. To him girls have long hair and I would look funny with extra short hair. So, my wig is on this morning again. I am not 100% sure I am brave enough to go wigless. Most of my adult life I had long hair but growing up I had always short hair.
Anybody itchy?
I am on Zolodex injections to shot down my ovaries and estrogen production. Hopefully my hair would not start falling.

Hey girls, So today I am 6 months PFC! YAY! and I havent' worn a wig since Oct. 6th. I would like to post a pic ... would somebody refresh my chemo brain of how to do it. ? My hair is about 1 1/2 inches all over... coming back a darker color than my original blonds and is coming in curly with LOTs of cowlicks... YIKES. BUT it is hair. I won't go out without out taking a shower and putting some product in to smooth it down. When I wake up every morning I have a big poofy wave on my right side and feel I am well on my way to ELVIS style... arghhhh.... I am figuring this is just a "growing pain"... I have never had curls, but perfectly straight hair so I am not quite sure what to do, but I am trying to work with it!
Hugs for a HAPPY NEW YEAR! and a better 2011!!!

Kelben - I would definitely cut your hair off and start over. I wasted a lot of growth trying to cut the curls out. It just doesn't work. My hair would be so much longer if I had just let it grow.
cc4npg - I am 44 years old and chemo put me into menopause. I have not had any problems with my hair growing back (other than the crazy chemo curls)

183 Topical Solution kills the effects of (sorry if the spelling is wrong) testosterone dht which causes hair fallout. It's a natural solution that helps your hair from falling out and Nioxin also has something similar in their products but this is natural, less expensive and you apply it every time you feel your hair tingle. It smells a bit vinegar like but it works. Minoxidyl helps it grow and Biotin helps the growth be healthy.

Chemo put me into menopause and I haven't had a period since Oct 2009 (between my first and second infusion)
I'm also on Tamoxifen but my hair is thicker now than before chemo!
I would not recommend shaving your hair to get rid of chemo curls. I know it's hard but be patient and let it grow and just get mini trims to shape it into a style and cut off the clear chemo hair.

As someone who has struggled with unruly, naturally curly hair her whole life (and who misses it dearly now), I have two thoughts:
(1) The longer your hair, the less curly. Your hair will weigh down or pull out the curls. So, I would not think trimming would help any.
(2) Frederick Fekkai makes a wonderful glossing creme. I buy at sephora.com. I have tried every straightener, defrizzer, gel, you name it that is made. Nothing comes close to this. It is not really a straightner, but with my prechemo hair, this plus a round brush resulted in gorgeous, shiny, unfrizzy hair, but with the volume and very soft curl that you can only get from curly hair dried with a round brush.
I miss my hair.

My profile pic that I use on here is from a Vegas trip the first week of January last year... what a difference a year makes.... I loved my hair and I was about 18 lbs. skinnier.... Oh well, I am alive and enjoying my life, family and friends.

Jan your hair looks like it's coming in nice and thick. Although I can't say the same about your hubby's!

I love the pictures with hair growth, really inspiring. I'm still in the midst of treatment with 10 Taxols left. I have a quick question, I have peach fuzz growing post A/C treatments, will this stay throughout the Taxol treatments or will I lose this hair too? I should finish chemo first week of March and I'd like to go wigless to my son's HS graduation end of June, is this too ambitious? Is there anything I can do/buy to make sure this happens?

Anyone flat iron their chemo curls? I am kind of broke, so just thought I would ask before plunking down 50 bucks on a decent flat iron.....
0 -
fearless one- I TRY..God knows I do, but I think my hair is just TOO darn thick and short that it makes it even worse for me, right now I'm just trying to go with the curl and have to wear a headband ALL the time (when I'm not wearing the wig)

Ladym13, yeah, I wear my headband daily. I don't really have to, but is too thick and poofy if I don't. But not in a sexy way. More like a crazy-person sort of way.....

FearlessOne I bought a cheapy cheap 1/2 inch wide flat iron for $15 at Sally's Beauty supplies. They also sell them at Ulta sometimes you can find at Target. I didn't want to spend anymore money or hair crap at this point either. This one is a no name brand and works just fine. Great for the top of my hair and my "bangs" since that is the shortest part of my hair. I do use my $$$$ Chi flat iron on the longer parts and yes it gets rid of the fuzz but I have absolutely no shape to it.
My hair looks a little like Jan's but longer (almost mullett like) in the back. My hair has always been super curly so I am the queen of fighting the curl. and I do have the Frederick Fekkai Glossing cream which works like a charm. I also use Moroccan Oil on my hair. It has lots of proteins etc in it so its more than a hair styling product it strengthens your hair and adds shine to it and it really makes a difference on hair at any length.
Happy New year to everyone!! 2011 HAS to be better!! right?!

Jan I forgot to mention how jealous I am of that warm sunny picture!! Also I was told by my PS and ONC to let my hair grow until it was 3 inches long then trim it...I don't know why but that's what I was told. It's hard to distinguish since it's so curly I don't know what the length is in the back. I think the top is about 1 1/2 inches and completely unmanageable. One day I will do it and someone will say your hair looks cute...then I can't get it to do the same thing the next day. I swear my best styling tool is my wooly knit cap. When I wear that for an hour or so it totally flattens it out and eliminates the frizz...and looks cute...sort of.

DiDel - are you using the glossing cream that is a conditioner? I searched on-line and that is the only Frederick Fekkai glossing cream product that I can find.
0 -
Thanks, DiDel, I will buy a flat iron, hopefully that will help. Would love a Chi, but can't afford it right now.....

Fearlessone: I had a not so inexpensive Revlon 1" Pro flatening iron from target that I just replaced with a Sally's Pro 450 degree 1" flatening iron. The reason is my old one couldn't straighten my chemo hair! As you can see in my new avatar, I can get it straight but it takes alot of product just not as much time as before. Good Luck!!!

Marie - good to see the pictures. Your hair is nice and thick, pretty grey too! I've noticed mine getting thicker but it has come in way darker than it was. Don't quite know what to do with it. It has no sheen either, I really miss that.
Arubajan - your style is much like mine, in fact I notice this a lot. I don't really have the curls - just a bit of a wave going on. Anyway great shots of you and your husband. That sunny weather made me jealous too.
Marueen - my hair started coming back during my Taxol treatments but a bit more than half way through it started falling out again. Was discouraging because I hadn't heard that could happen. However, it doesn't happen to everyone. You very well could go to your son's graduation wig-less.
Thx for all the nice comments on my hair and my son's. His grew so much faster and looks a lot better now --- I'm still waiting. Think I might call my hair dresser tomorrow and let her take a look - get a professional's opinion. Couldn't hurt anything
Blessings, Carolyn

Char it's the green glossing cream leave in. It;s an olive oil cream very heavy you can not put it near your scalp its very greasy but it helps to put on then flat iron.
Im too lazy to get up right now (in bed) but I will look online to get the exact name.
