Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Cristl,
Glad to hear you took the plunge and you're still here! The next step you're already onto -- getting comfortable yourself in the Wig or wheatever else you'll end up doing. It used to take me FOREVER to get my wig on right. I would try it on, take it off, brush it again, put it on, trim the bangs, no, take it off, put it on again, OH CRAP now the bangs are too short, etc.
Now I just pop that sucker on in no tme. Everyone has seen me in it, and I wear a cottony sleep cap when I'm in PJs. It's mostly just time - us getting used to it and everyone else too. Soon, it will be no big deal. I kinow it is hard to believe now!
Otter,
Yeah, it is hard for me sometimes to take other's complaints very seriously now. I feel like I have a different perspective than I had before. I let a lot of things roll, so many things seem like "not a big deal" than maybe would have driven me nutz. I dunno. I know what you mean about the paradox...
Spring.

Thought I would share my "Hair Journey"
I started chemo April 27, 08. Had 8 treatments. First 4, adrimyacin and cytoxin. Last 4, taxol. Hair started to come out 2 weeks after starting treatment. Eyelashes and eyebrows didn't start to fall out until about my 2nd or 3rd taxol. Last Chemo was on Sept 17, 08. Radiation started 3 wks later, Oct 8, 08 with daily treatments until Nov 18, 08.
Currently I am with "NED" and hoping to stay there for A LONG TIME, God willing!
So here are my hair pictures, I hope this works, it might be too big of a picture as I have taken them all and made into one.
Ok, that didn't work. Lets try this
<a href="http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii319/goldie0827/?action=view¤t=HairJourney.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii319/goldie0827/HairJourney.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
...and this

Shoot! why isn't it working?
Sorry Ladies, maybe you will have to copy and paste one of the links to make it work.

Are you clicking on the little tree icon in the menu above the posting window? That's the place to paste your picture URL. Then in should be inserted into your message.

Goldie0827- I did a copy and paste and was able to check out your pictures. Have you been brave enough to give up the wig? I'm really worried about when that time comes. I know I can't wear the wig forever but...

Nancy- Trying the little tree thing, hope it works!
Plakatakr- Unfortunately the answer is NO. I have rather large ears and they stick out. But I only wear it when we go to town, which is only once a week. I do not wear it at home.

Have to work on it later or tomorrow. Going to town now.......so going to look for my wig, since I haven't had it on since I got home week and half a go!
Hugs,
Lori

Lori,
The $35.00 wig is smashing! (dag!)
So it looks like about 2-3 months after you finished your chemo, you started getting some head/hair coverage, yes? (Ilet me get my calendar out and mark the days! I finished on 11/10!) so Jan or Feb i am thinking.... Golly, I cannot wait to get some hair!

Spring - I finished chemo 8/13. I started taking pictures every 2 weeks following the end of tx. You'd be surprised at how fast it grows. It seemed to stall at 12 weeks but in reality it was doing its fill in work, so not so obvious on the visual. I have a full head of hear, nice and thick. Its just short. I am sporting JamieLee Curtis at the moment. So 3 months later, I have hair I can run my fingers through..and I do. Not the color I want...not sure how that will end up but its still hair. I even get pillow-head...lol To this day, I still only wash my hair with baby shampoo.

Only 12 weeks. I am so PSYCHED!!! Thanks Familyrocks!

Ok, here we go again. I feel like I am taking up too much room!
Spring - I guess it was about 6 wks until I could see some significance in the hair. I always had some some fuzz tho. I have lots of that now too, except it's on my face!
Adrienne - Are your pics out here somewhere? Why do you only use baby shampoo?
Nancy - I tried the tree thing, that is not working either. I have posted a pic before and just inserted it into the message and it worked. Shouldn't it show up in the "preview"? Perhaps they are too big. I tried to make 4 pictures out of the one and it still isn't working! Oh Well!

I'll try to help, and see if I can one to work. Maybe it's the site and not you

Well, creates a link, but not the pic Sorry. When you posted the link, did you use the one on photobucket, or the just the webpage where your pic is stored? Not sure they are different?

This is from this last week, 15 weeks post chemo.

IMG CodeDo you click and copy the direct link code? Or are you just copying the webaddress? You need to copy that direct link that shows up and then paste on this forum message. Then you highlight that link and click on the link up above and paste it in there and it will show up as a pic that way.....here's a pic from my photoshop.

Well, well.....must be something new on the forum, or it's not working for some reason. A glitch maybe? It's not working for me either and I've posted pics on this forum many times

I"d post a picture but it isn't working for some reason. I have to finagle (sp?) a way to get my cursor to even allow me to type in the reply box. Not sure if its a problem on my end or BC.org's. Frustrating.

Did the direct link and img codes! Pasted them in the message and in the little tree thingy!
Your snow picture is beautiful, however I do not miss it! I am originally from MI, Lapeer area, little town called Hadley. Where are you?
Here is the "album"

Yeah, yeah, Lori, really pretty! LOL
BUT....it's also, cold, wet and did I mention very heavy this time! UGH!
Ladies, you hair will grow back and fully and healthier than it's been since you were a kid! I promise! Mine's over 3 inches and has been trimmed twice now. No color, b/c I'm just not going there again. I am what I am and that's all that's going to happen from here on out! No more dressing or caring what anyone thinks but me. I'm 50, 5'5", 121lbs. I'm active and busy and just don't think MY LOOKS as for what others think anymore is important. I've never been one to follow the rules or norms..and I enjoyed being me and even more so now that I'm a little different. I'm happy I think I hope it's that anyway....just a little less give-a-sh*t attitude now!

My hair is coming in gray! I never had so much gray in my life!!!
So I will wear my wig a little longer til I get used to it!
0 -
Mine started out whitish-gray, so when it grew it the ends looked sort of frosted. Now I'm almost 7 months post chemo and the color is almost exactly the same as it was before. Maybe a teensy bit more gray but not really noticeable.
My question is, how long 'til it stops growing OUT and starts growing DOWN? My mom was right, I am starting to look a little bit like Harpo Marx.... (not that I am complaining, hair is wonderful, any hair at all!)

Hm....mine was definitely not straight to me, although everyone in my family, including my dh, dd and mother and sister said it was not getting curly, I could tell by the feel it was not straight either. Maybe about 1/2 inch long, I could tell it was starting a swirl type effect maybe? I don't know, but know it was right away. Now the back is really curly and the sides and top I work with to tame it down a bit

It might LOOK gray but it might not BE gray. My DH liked to point out all my gray and I constantly stated it was the non-color stuff growing in. I had my hair trimmed, about 3 weeks ago (13 weeks post tx) and my hairdresser agreed that its non-color. I hope she wasn't humouring me. Anywho, it is steadily growing darker each day. Right now a black but I expect that I'll eventually be the brunette I was with a slight splattering of gray. Its thick and starting to get its curl. Kind of sore at the crown (sore isn't a good description but alot like when we were starting to lose our hair feeling) and getting quite a bit of body. I cherish each day that I look at my hair and see it...just see it. I don't need to force it or color it....I"m just happy it is IT.
ON the eyebrow/eyelash fall out every 3 months. So far I am 16 weeks post tx this week and I haven't had a 3 month fall out. I asked my Onc and he'd never heard of this phenomenon. So far for me what I've noticed...I had this beautiful luscious growth once they started to come back in. These beautiful full lashes and nicely shaped brows (that I never had before).. I was liking it! Now...they are what they were before chemo. So I didn't lose them all...just settled into what I had before...bleh. But they are mine...all mine, thank you very much.

Fllorick
Hey I also have lots of grey / black & white....I didn't have any grey before and was a natural honey blonde... no sign of blonde anything yet...everything is coming in dark!

I just bought some temporary color to fill in those white ends and maybe make it look a little fuller and longer. I am DONE with my wig..Its growing in very evenly and the hairline is nice and symectrical (sp*) I have been going to gym and shopping without it and I feel so freeeee and natural..I was out today and big burly biker type man winked at me, I must have that bad ass look. Maybe a couple henna tats to complete the look...haha

I have a question for ALL?? Once you all loose your hair what have you been washing your hair with or Scalp with?? I tend to have oily hair so I always use Pert Plus with Dandruff control and Conditioner.
Thank You Ladies,
Jerri

I have been using my regular soap. It feels kind of pointless. I did buy some Nioxin I am going to start using.
I have read about it and certain people have liked it and thinks it has helped. Who knows but I am goig to start using it.
Anyone here taking Biotin? Someone told me that would help with hair growth too but I haven't gotten any. My Onc wants me to wait to take it until my tx is done.

I used baby shampoo throughout chemo (even on my bald head) and still do today, 16 weeks post chemo
0 -
CristlC, yes you should wait to take any supplements that promote growth until you are done with all your tx, otherwise it could work against the tx by supporting the growth of the bc cells or helping the bc cells withstand the chemo. Once the bc is dead and gone (hopefully), it should be OK to take the hair growth supplements.

I also used baby shampoo everyday...stated using nioxin when I finished radiation
Way to go ShellyJo you must be looking good!
My hair is not there yet but I'm hoping by Christmas!
