Dawn31337, pre-pubescent Santa! Almost an inch at 7 weeks is awsome. When did you start the biotin. I will finish my chemo next week and maybe the Easter Bunny will get me some Biotin (sorry santa), is there a certain brand? Will I find it at any drug store?
Carrol2- I saw those headbands, I need to pick up a few. Reminds me of the headbands you see on infant girls so you know they are a baby girl, LOL>)

OK here's my before and after. The bottom pictures are from yesterday just before I headed out to the hair dresser. Top is from an hour ago. It's a bit too red. He fixed it once but I didn't want to sit there any longer to get it even browner. Will all the new gray hair the red really took.
This is 13 weeks post chemo

I got the Biotin (vitamin B7) at Walgreens. Just the cheapie stuff, I figured it is all the same. I started taking it probably 3 weeks ago. It is certainly making other-than-head-hair grow, I swear one day my legs had stubble, 2 days later 3/4"...pubies too. My head hair did start to fill out, but right now I can't tell if it helps or not. May all be coincidence.
Congrats on finishing chemo!

dawn,
Thanks, I did not realize it was B7, that helps. I may start this week, some sort of active role in the regrowth makes me feel better. I will take any hair, and will never complain again about styling, shaving, etc!! Next week last chemo, grow hair, grow hair, please talk to santa for me.
Lago, your hair look great. I colored my hair regularly (when I had hair), in the fall I usually did some reddish highlights. My natural hair color is/was similiar to yours, you will probably find the red fades abit faster than lighter colors, and may in a few washings be just how you want it. I think is looks fabulous just like it is.

GORGEOUS, Lago!

Thanks but it doesn't show up as red as it is in the photos. It needs to be bit more brown. It is a nice color though. I had a very dark auburn before.

Lago you look great!! My hair is a bit longer, but very messy- have the fur thing going. What color did you have put on? I like the reddish tones!0
-
Lago--looks great. I had mine coloured also--mine was growing in a strange brown ash colour and after the colouring, it seemed more redish--I wonder if it is reaction to chemo hair? Hairdresser said that after my next colouring it will be more like the colour that I want--maybe red takes easier? I am 20 weeks out of chemo and haven't had it cut yet but will try to get a cut sometime in May to try and style it a bit more--your hair is growing in nicely--mine is a little wild looking

Lago looking good the color looks way better than grey. OK now I can't wait to color mine. After my fill if i am feeling good I will make an appointment at the salon. My hairdresser said i could be any color since i have light eyes, i was debating on platinum blonde, but the maintenance seems like a lot of trouble and might be too damaging to the hair. So he said dark brown.0

lago I love your hair !! You look great !!! I think I am going to go get some color !!!

Lago love the pics the color is great and makes it look more filled in. Mine is just a little behind yours in growth. You can totally go topless at this point

Thanks everyone. It's still a little thin on top but not too bad. I'm still going sans scarf in spite of the slight thinness and the return of winter to Chicago. I actually do look better with hair then scarf… and I thought I pulled off the scarf well. It should be filled in by next week I hope.
TifJ My hair is still "fur" on top. My hair dresser uses Framesi color (good for brunettes). It used to be 4 parts 6N, 1 part 6R, 10 parts peroxide but now that I have so much gray he had to make it darker. Not sure if he'll use less 6R next time or start using 5N instead of 6N.

Lago: That color looks great on you!!!

Lago ~ I love it! I'm a big fan of Framesi color. I have an appt for this Fri - can't wait! I shaved my head to even it out mid Oct. and have some crazy stuff going on now. I feel like a poodle or like I'm wearing a helmet (esp. when it's clean). I'll try to post some pics too - it's SO fun seeing everyone's progress. I've dyed mine at home twice, but am not at all used to a monochromatic look. Can't wait for my stylist to do his "magic". "Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow..." (don't know how to make music symbols). ~ Daiva

When did you all start Biotin? Post-chemo? During? Did onc approve or was that an issue?
I am half-way thru chemo (three treatments left over next six weeks) and am bald/shaved as of two weeks ago. Will ask onc or nurse at next appointment, but just curious on what you were told/advised, how much, etc. Still nervous to do too much on my own. Don't want to risk health for hair, although losing the hair is harder than surgery/chemo!!!0 -
yes, ladies. i was a redhead in my early days, natural.. and, when you put hair dye in, your natural pigment comes thru. it actually takes at leat two steps to get the natural red out, normally...
im interested in the henna, what would you recommend to do red? ive been using natural insticts, but since im so thinning, maybe the henna will thicken it. i want the red, so what would i use? i use ehnna to do the tatooing. i had some done on my hands last year, for the neuropathy. i thought it was cool, but it didn't seem to help, and was too $$ to use a person to do it on me. haven't found a friend yet willing to try on me YET>>>>>> 3jays

Well I've been wearing my real hair for 2 weeks. I had one day on vacation where I wore a wig. I was having a bad day, no sleep the night before, stupid insomnia! My sister sent me this Prive pomade. It works wonders on my hair. I found a hair stylist at the wig shop who did a great job on my color. And she spent a lot of time trimming my hair where it was a little bit uneven. She also thinned it a tiny bit. It looks so much better. I need to go to Sally's and get another round brush that's a little wider in diameter.

I've been taking 5mg of Biotin daily for 6 years. My onc knows I am on it. I never stopped. The only thing I did stop when I started chemo was Minoxidil. I mean it would have been a waste of money… the hair was going to fall out anyway.
I'm expecting many of you who are having color done to post this week.

3jays: Well, you're perfect for Henna. Henna IS red. Pure Henna. Read over some of my other posts and one of my most recent ones has a link at the bottom of Henna Recipes. I use Light Mountain, but the body art quality Henna is wonderful. Henna will dye your hair and will give you the red you want, how much red is up to you. Since you're new to Henna, call your local health food store and ask if they carry Light Mountain. I use Color the Gray.. a two step process.. but if you're not gray then you would just want the regular. Light Mountain comes in different colors... google it and you'll see what I mean. It will take some of the guesswork out of it for you to begin with until you get used to what you're doing. You'll love it... only warnings are... it's messy... it smells earthy... it looks like you're putting poop colored mud in your hair.. it is time consuming. But the results are great... it's natural... it won't make your hair fall out... it contains no chemicals, only the Henna plant.0

thanks, cc.. i used it a long time ago. gonna ck it out. just have to make sure i come close to the color of the "wiglets" i got last week...3jays

lago, great color!!!!! You and I are about the same length and color initially....I'm gonna have to think about the color again.0

I didn't think my hair was growing much, but I took a good look at my roots this morning and there is growth just wish it was more. I am really struggling with trying to style my hair. I don't remember having this much trouble when I used to get a curly perm, I guess it is because the waves go everywhere but where I want them to. Oh well at least it is hair.

Question for you all....my eyebrows are all back (yay) but they are so light now it doesn't look like I have any at all. Does anyone have a suggestion for an eyebrow dye? I have been using a darkening powder type product but don't like the results...it seems to color the skin underneath more than the brow hairs.
Suggestions?

Lago - NICE!! My hair is not quite as thick as yours yet, but it is definitely a match for your pre-colour hue (black & grey). In a few more weeks when it thickens up just a bit more, I am thinking of trying some henna - I used to use it years ago.
Can't wait to go topless - everyone loved the scarf look, but I am just so tired of having something on my head!! Soon....
0 -
I too am ready to go topless...always wearing a baseball cap...graduated from the pirate bandana. My problem is I just don't know what to put on my head that would be nice enough for going out to dinner, or even to church. Not a huge brimmed-hat kinda girl. trying to find cute bands or a different way to put a scarf on my head that lets the hair in the back show...but no luck. Any idea's anyone?

DMD: Honestly, I've used mascara on eyebrows before with great results. Use brown or dark brown and only certain brushes work well. It takes a while to know how to do it without having it cake on or smudges. Other than that or the powder or eyebrow pencils, I don't think chemical dye is something you could use at all. I'm sure there are other things out there... it's possible henna might work mixed with indigo, but again it's really close to the eye so I don't know that I'd do that.0

thegood5 I found that short scarfs (30"-33") are not all that dressy. I would wear really long scarfs that fell down just above my waist. Gave a very dramatic look. As my hair grew in I would tie it higher on my head so the my "side burns" would stick out. People who didn't know me just though it was my artsy look. You will need to dress it up with earrings. If you choose a scarf that doesn't have a bandanna or tie dye pattern it can look rather dressy.
The other trick is I did tie the scarves so they would at the very least cover the tops of my ears. Letting your ears stick out makes you look more like a pirate too.

Kittycat: So glad to see you here and to know you are doing well and your hair is growing.
