bdavis I've never notices extra facial hair on biotin and I've been taking it for 6 years off and on. Now men's rogaine, that's another story. I tried it and went back to the women's because of facial hair started to grow.

Hair coming in so slowly and very patchy, longer here and shorter there.  Any suggestions?  I thought I might take it all down to the same length so that it could at least grow in evenly, yes???no???

    thank you for your help

Teklya I got a very slight trim at 15 weeks PFC. I had some hair that was really long that never fell out during chemo so it was longer than all the new growth. So I had my hairdresser trim that so it was all even and he cut some around my ears and trimmed and buzzed the back of my neck. Now I am at 20 weeks and the back of my neck is a bit longer and curling up a little and the hair is growing over my ears very slightly. I was thinking of getting another trim but decided to just let it grow now.I am starting to look a bit like a vulcan on star trek lol so i am going to try to let this grow out asap. I have still been wearing hats 24/7. It's been chilly in KC but when it warms up I will have to rethink this. I really want to get it colored but my hairdresser is booked, i guess with easter and mothers day so close. I know he has had a customer who had chemo that has been coming to him for many years so i would like to stick with him. Plus i have no idea where else to go.

Teklya.....I m now 20 weeks post chemo and my hair s pretty much all one length but is starting to look a little crazy! It is hanging a bit over my ears etc so it probably would be a good idea to trim. I go to this specialty place right now that deals with hair loss etc. I bought my wig there, they shaved my head there and I recently had it colored there. When I mentioned my lack of hair style to the lady, she mentioned to give it another few weeks to get enough that they could actually do something with. My hair is growing but not as fast as I would like...no big surprise!

I cut the hair myself over my ears. I think that's why I was able to pull off this Annie Lennox look.

My skin is not so white and my hair not so orange.

Chemo caused me to have this really weird white fuzz on my face and neck and would happen with or without biotin.

I think if you are in chemopause or actual menopause, thats where the extra fuzz on the face comes from.  I never had it before, but now see lots of fine hairs on the sides of my cheeks.  YEAH to menopause!

Lago  if we were models, we could earn some big bucks for our looks! LOL

Teklya~I shaved mine 6 wks after my last chemo because it was coming in patchy and I looked like I was sick or had cancer or something lol.  I felt better and am glad I did because when it grew back it came in thick and even.

Re: facial hair - I thought it was due to the biotin and couldn't get over what was happening on my face.  So I stopped it and the hair keeps on coming.  Thank  you menopause!  (had oopherectomy in Jan).  Oh well, at least it's a sign of life and health to me... and I'm alive.  I will say, having your whole face threaded hurts!!!!!

    Hi Girls

Been reading the discussions on hair growth .  Well, I had my last chemo treatment on Feb. 22.(Had 4 rounds of cytoxin and taxotere) Two months and 3 days later, I still have very little hair growth. My scalp is still quite bald. I am getting very worried.. Some other posts that I have read state that hair growth started in a month. Is this an indication that I may be bald?

painted lady some people do grow slower than others. Don't panic. Sounds like you have some growth so that's a good sign. I would also talk to your onc about this. They have seen so many men and women on chemo I'm sure they can tell you that some of their patients were slow to grow back. It is rare that the hair doesn't return. From what I read the more rounds of chemo you've had could also increase this rare SE. You had 4 rounds not 6 or 8 so I think things are still in your favor that the hair will come back. I don't now for sure but I still have faith.

painted lady i agree with Lago I had some hair growth at 8 weeks but you could still see my scalp a lot and I was told by my oncologist that my hair seems to be growing quicker than most. I was nervous too try no to worry and be patient. You could try some things that I did,  like taking biotin or using the nioxin shampoo system, to help it along, I don't know if they work or not but it helps to feel like you tried.

    Painted lady -

I finished chemo on March 10 (same chemo regimen as you) and like you, I have very little hair coming back and the front is still pretty bare. It is so hard to be patient, and I don't know if you're like me, but the loss of hair has been the hardest for me. I've heard that once it starts coming in it comes in fast, so that is what I am clinging to - let us know when you see a change!

paintedlady:  Some of us take a bit longer then others but it doesn't hurt to try some generic rogaine (Target, CVS) Biotin, Nioxin to help it along.  I also take Milk Thistle to help clear out the toxins left after chemo.  I know that one woman posted that her father told her as a baby she was also bald for a really long time and then finally got hair so maybe it's just taking it's time.  I know the hair loss was the most traumatic for me and I am so grateful to be a year out.  Yesterday I was able to put my hair in two very small pigtails.  Give it time and I agree, speak with your Onc.  Hugs!

My hair started growing right away, even before I finished chemo, but it was very, very, VERY slow.  Seems like just in the past few weeks, I am starting to see a difference everyday.  Have faith...it will come!

I will admit I'm doing 5mg of Biotin and Generic Rogaine (Walgreen's Minoxidil for women).

Just went with my husband to get his hair cut and asked his hairdresser about color. She said she can do a test to see if the color takes and then if it does ok do the whole head. It's 5 months PFC for me I have been grey long enough.

She may even try to do a cap and see if she can do highlights.

Hi girls! Just checking in with my monthly photo update. :) Love all the pictures that have been posted recently. You all look wonderful!! This is me at 25 weeks. It's getting curlier and is very thick. I feel like I'm constantly fighting the poof. I think as it gets longer and poofier I'm probably going to enter the headband phase. I'm really looking forward to it growing down instead of up, lol!

Kate - I have not followed this thread much lately and have missed several of your updates. I am glad I caught this one. My hair is growing in just like yours. You are about a month ahead of me so yours is bit longer, but the cow licks and curls and growing "up". . . I can relate! At least it is better than nothing!

I really hope my hair comes in like that. At least I say that now since I don't have any...lol. I had curly hair before chemo, but not thick. Mine was the kind of curl that you had to scrunch and would get a curl. Hoping for any hair now would be fine.

Kate it looks fab. I had to pay money to get my hair that color Tongue out I think the curl works on you. I've decided that if I end up with weird curls I'm just going to keep it Annie Lennox for a while till it calms down. I'm enjoying not having to style my hair… not having the chicago wind blow it in my face so I can't see!

Kate, don't you look wonderful!  That's great hair growth.  I'm about there (well, I got my first cut last week) at 7.5 months.  I have a new saying about myself:  I heal slow, but right. : )

Still battling the eyebrows, which are cycling in and out.  Blech, awfully sick of drawing them in.

And yes, the poof.  My hair is plenty dense, but the texture is so fine, soft and curly.  Which means a lot of product.  For me, I'm not a big fan, I look a whole lot better with straight.

PaintedLady, I had nada, nista, niet, nary a wisp at 2 months.  In fact, it really wasn't for three that I got any kind of covering.  Mine filled in for five LONG months, and then started to grow.

    We are all so different.

Kate, you look fabulous!!!!  I can only hope my hair looks that great at 25 weeks!!

Lago - if you've never had curls, you're in for an adventure.  I swear people always wish they have the hair someone else has.  I've had crazy curly hair my whole life, but they make much better products these days.  The Sedu flatirons are the bomb.  Of course, we need more hair than what we have to actually use them :(

katehrinenaomi you look great. is that your natural color? I am about 5 weeks behind you looking forward to having the fullness you have. Mine is still pretty straight but the back is curling up.
