Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Carrol - I did start getting trims in December, and have had at least 4 since. My stylist is keeping the lower back part pretty short because it was starting to grow in kind of like a mullet. We are going for a wedge-y style, which I hope will grow into my old bob style eventually.
Tracie - at first I used Naturtint, which I bought at Whole Foods and took in to my stylist. But after a while, I wanted it darker. And no matter what color we used in the Naturtint it just stayed red. I finally gave in in March and had a salon color put on.

Teklya i have the neck hair too. Not sure if I had this before maybe under my long hair.
sara that is what my stylist said that if i let it grow it would look like a mullet, that convinced me to trim it. I did trim it once before to even it all out a month ago. I can't wait for it to get as long as yours. MIne is 5 months but i think it looks like your 7 month except the back has a thin spot on top.

Nancy I always used the 1" flattening iron on my hair prior to chemo. I prefered the ones with ceramic plates. You'll find it keeps the frizzies away on humid days.

About hair -
My SIL in high position, practices in the 70' to wear a wig to have her hair done of looking well. Telling her about my referral (?) from MO to get a wig before chemo, she was excited:"How fine, I'll go with you" It was as buying a new dress. I tried some and buy it. After three weeks I lost my hair and the wig was too big, but I could change it. It was quite pretty, not from natural hair but made on the tiny fine plastic web. I wear it from Jan till Now 2010, all were saying I should always get my hair cut in this way. For all that I was wery happy to get my hair back. I wish all my BC sisters could get the same experience
Greetings!
(English isn't my native language)

Sara your hair looks great. I had my hair trimmed and colored again yesterday. I told my hairdresser that every one thinks it is really thick, but she agreed with me it is not as thick as it was before chemo, it is just the curls making it look thick. When she started putting on my color she said I had a lot of new hairs still coming in. And when she trimmed it she said that last month she evened everything out in the back and now it is all different lengths, so it is not all growing at the same rate. My hair never looks the same two days in a row, it just depends on how much time and product I use. We all took the look good feel better to learn how to deal with being bald, they need to have a class to teach us how to handle our curly frizzy new hair.

Good point, GuyGirl. This is tough as we are not used to curls, waves, long hairs mixed in with short new ones, YIKES! A little evening session with a skilled hairdresser would be so helpful for us.

sara, you are adorable. I cant wait to have any hair at all that I can even try to brush ar put gel on.
lago did not know that was a wig in your avaqtar, thought that pic was pre cancer. Love that style on you, very young and hip. My wig is also very shiny, when people tell me that my wig looks real, I think really? nobody I know has hair this shiny.

lago, my hair is coming in shiny....silver!

thegood5 my hair came in salt and pepper but the white hairs were kind of silvery metallic. My Dad had silver hair when he went grey. I loved it on him, not so much on me.0

it's kind of a mousey brown with gray in it...had some gray before dx, my hair was dirty blonde. will try to post some pics after I figure out how!

saralmom...you look faaaabulous! I am so jealous. I am 8 months PFC and you have twice as much hair as me. I did take a tip from MBJ a few weeks ago and bought some of the John Frieda "Go Blonder" shampoo which gradually lightens your hair. I was a dark blonde before and it came back an ugly taupe/gray. Ugggh! This product has lightened it up just enough to get rid of the gray and add some shine. I also use some gloss drops to add a little more shine.
I have had a couple trims to take care of the long stuff growing down my neck. Waiting for the stuff on top to grow like that. My hair salon is now selling a supplement called GROH from Total Neutraceuticals. It is mostly derived from wild mushrooms. It is pricey, but I bought a one month supply and have been using it for a week so it is probably a little early to see any results. I will let you know what develops.
Haven't posted here in a while, but I love checking in to see the latest pics! I'll try to post one next week after I get back from the beach in sunny Florida. I am hoping the sun and warmth will help this hair development. Its been raining here for days!

carberry my avatar picture is 2 weeks after my 4th treatment. I haven't changed it because I think it's a good photo for people to see who are going through chemo. I always wore my hair in a long paige boy. I swear I actually looked better/younger on chemo. It puffed out all my wrinkles and made my oval face less long. My onc would tell my every time how great I looked. I told her I'm going to look like shit when chemo's over
So now I have my hair and wrinkles (+ some) back. I still don't look too bad though.

Okay - thought some might like to see my "chemo curls" in action. These are right after being washed and just combed - no creams, no dryer, no iron, no wax, etc.

wow sarah what creams are you using to straighten your hair?

Lago: I find that the only thing that gives my hair shine is if I put on some Paul Mitchell Skinny gel right after my rogain and 10 minutes before putting on my Nioxin & Pantene Styling gel. I also use Sexy Hair Straighten anti humid hair spray prior to blowdrying and then I use my flat iron. Once I finally coax it into the style I want, then I spray it with Nioxin hair spray and again with the Sexy Straight--yep, it's alot to get my hair to look normal and shiny. If I don't do all of this it is still kind of like animal fur texture.

Sarah how long was it when it started to curl. I though I was out of the woods on chemo curls but now I know I'm not. I just don't have a curly personality I may be keeping it short for a while.0

saralmom: That is my "before" hair in the morning--it takes alot to get to the other side! Yours looks great.

Everything I learned about straightening my hair I learned right here on this thread from MBJ!!
lago - It started to seem curly at around 5 months PFC - so maybe like 20-22 weeks? The longer it got the curlier it got.
Carrol - and anyone else interested - I mostly use Marc Anthony straightening cream which I heard about from MBJ. Here's my routine.
Wash and condition in the shower.
Comb out hair and use about a quarter size dollop of straightening cream - currently using Redken Sheer Striahgt 06 because I ran out of Marc Anthony Style Straight Instant Straightening Cream. I've also used Redken 16 when my stylist gave me a sample. All work well.
Blow dry using the flat attachment and a flat brush just brushing it down struaght and kind of forward. Then I have a tiny round metal brush from my stylist which I sort of am able to pull down the bangs with the hot dryer and attachment to flatten them some.
I have a tiny flat iron - less than an inch I think - which I do all over but mostly on the bangs and the top.
Then I use wax - currelty using shortsexyhair "Frenzy" which claims to "bulk up texture" but works well to hold everything down. I use alot on the bangs. And I use it to tame the top and the neck area. I sometimes re-apply during the day, but usually it holds all day.
There you have it. And to those non cancer people who keep telling me how much fun I'll have being curly, and what a great opportunity this is to try something new, I say that's BS. I used to wash my hair and blow it dry with a round brush and go. I could go from pajamas to the car in 20 minutes. My routine now takes at least an hour. I know I do it to myself and could just let it go, but like lago says - I don't have a curly personality either. And I prefer to look in the mirror and see my familiar self.
Okay - time to go finish dealing with my hair so I can go to work!!!

I've done the Uncle Fester stage, now have moved on to Sinead.....curls next? Hmmm. I am not much of a curl person either.

saralmom: That pretty much sums it up--an hour for my hair in the morning and it doesn't even reach my shoulders yet. It is worth it to see my familiar self.

sarah and lago i know what you mean aobut teh curly personality. My brother has curly hair that will be an afro if he grows it long, he was the only white guy in the 60s with a huge fro! lol. So i keep thinking if this comes in curly i will look like my brother! ugh! I am at 5 months and it's still pretty straight so crossing my fingers. I do see some curling up in the back though.0

Carrol I looked like my brother when I lost my hair My SIL cracked up when I told her that.0

how do you all go about posting pics?
0 -
thegoods5 the best way IMO is to post your picture on a website like photobucket. Go to the little tree icon on the menu bar where you post a reply. Take the link to the photo and post it in the proper field. You can re-size there if you like.
I know others copy and paste from photobucket type sites but if you do you can't re-size. It will not work from facebook.

lago...so then anyone can get onto photobucket and see my bald head?
0 -
I don't know. I don't use photo bucket. I have my own site and host my photos there

thegood5 - you set up your own account on photobucket with a login id and password so your photos are private.0

OK took some pics for you guys. I updated my progress chart, You can see I am now at week 20 and got a semi permanent color to cover the grey, hard to see in photos and she trimmed the back.
