Lori, the pics are great!  Never could stand to even try the wigs as my hair had been a little longer than yours originally.  took off 14 inches before surgery, then shaved it on day 20 after A/C started. It it now nearly 4 inches and I've had sections that have been trimmed maybe 3/4 inch total. It's starting to relax but that's likely the length.  I'm really enjoying the shorter cut.  So much quicker to get down and out the door when needed.

Has anyone used "Revitalash" to help with regrowth of eyelashes?  Someone suggested it to me.

Cristl, Isn't Revitalash a mascara? Mine are growing back in but I haven't used mascara yet. I am just using eyeshadow and liners for the "pop" factor.

My eyebrows are coming back! And in arm pits! Surprised

OH AND CHIN HAIRS!!!!!!!!!!  (No why couldn't chemo have totally irradicated the CHIN HAIRS?????)

The good with the bad, I guess!

Spring, No I don't think it is.  A friend of mine used it for another issue and said it works good.  It is a conditioner that you put on the lash line.  Sounds kind of like a liquid liner.  It is a little expensive.  Every I could find it at $150 including the website.  Here is the story:

    The RevitaLash Story

It all began because a husband wanted to give his wife a very special gift...

RevitaLashTM was developed by Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff as a special gift for his wife, Gayle, while she was recovering from breast cancer. Intensive chemotherapy treatments had damaged Gayle's once-beautiful eyelashes, leaving them sparse, breakable and fragile.

After extensive research with a team of talented cosmetic chemists, Dr. Brinkenhoff formulated an eyelash conditioner that, after just a few weeks, gave a renewed look of vitality to Gayle's eyelashes.

Soon friends and family wanted to know Gayle's secret to beautiful looking eyelashes. Gayle knew immediately the perfect name for the amazing eyelash conditioner that had given her eyelashes a renewed look of vitality: RevitaLashTM.

Thus, a new product was born; and a formula created originally for just one special woman has become a product available to women everywhere who want to have beautiful looking eyelashes.

Gayle and Michael are committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from RevitaLashTM sales to benefit non-profit breast cancer research and education initiatives.

"Often we feel helpless when someone we love is suffering. I am very fortunate, in my own small way, to have been able to help Gayle through her recovery. Watching her be excited about her beautiful looking eyelashes has been a real joy."

    - Michael Brinkenhoff, M.D.

    Hi Cristl!!!

    http://base.google.com/base/a/3560669/D14117671193471192500

For these prices, I wonder if we should research fake lashes?? LOL.

Seriously, if anybody had tried this, LET US KNOW- - Does it really work??

I just don't get all this stuff they put out there.  I checked on a biotin type stuff and it clearly says it makes hair appear thicker by enlarging the size of the shaft base basically.  That dosen't encourage or make hair grow, just opens the poor so each hair is thicker, not more hair follicles.

I bet this stuff has or is something similar

Just give your bodies time to regroup and start that growing/dying cycle that's screwed up from chemo...it will get better dears! :D

I've been taking biotin as a supplement, and I think it's helping.  I can only compare to what everyone else is reporting for hair regrowth, and so far, mine seems pretty long and thick for 12 weeks.  Can't help but feel the biotin is helping...

On the other hand, I tried a henna haircolor over the weekend (in my quest for a natural product), and the results weren't that great.  I may not have left it on long enough though, so plan to try it again for a longer time and will let you know if it works any better.      Deanna

Thanks, I didn't mean the supplement but the shampoo line of biotin.  sorry for not making that clear. :)

Please do post about the hair coloring... a lot of interest from many on that I'm sure :)

    Deanna,

I did not know there was something that can "thicken" your hair shaft. This is in pill form? Biotin? What is it exactly? I've never heard of it!

wishiwere ~ What I bought is Surya Henna Cream.  The package says "Guaranteed to cover gray and white hair on the first application," and they even had a color chart in the store (Sprouts) that showed how each of their 10 or so colors will come out on gray, which is what I was trying to blend in.  I bought the Light Brown, and what it did color came out kind of yellowish.  But I only left it on for 20 mins., which may not have been long enough.  Also, with 1" hair, it's kind of hard to tell what's adequately covered with the product and what isn't.  But the product itself is very thick (not drippy), and doesn't have any chemical smell.  In fact, I was really excited about it, until I washed it out and didn't get the results I was anticipating.    Deanna

Spring ~  Biotin is one of the B vitamins.  Normally, I wouldn't separate the B's and would just take more B-Complex, but during chemo, I think our bodies get so out of whack and need extra nutrients that I didn't hesitate to take B6 when someone told me it might help with neuropathy, which it did.  So when someone on the TC board said biotin was good for hair regrowth, I added that too.  I get mine at Whole Foods -- just their own brand.  You know, my nails have also been really strong since chemo ended.  I've been thinking it was the D3 I'm also taking now (figured it  increased calcium absorption), but maybe the biotin's helping that, too?    Deanna

    Deanna, good stuff.

I looked it up and some say it also helps with weight loss. (Not sure if that is true) but the virtues of Boitin on bones, nails and hair are out there! Apparently people with naturally thinning hair often are told to take Biotin. I did not know this. Will try it! It's water soluable, so you'd just pee out any overage it seems (like Vit C).

    Hi, Hare Wimmen!

Anyway I scared my son the other night. I was so happy I was getting some hair poking up, so I ran to show him the hair is coming back!!! I had my last chemo day before TGiving, here it is Jan 12, so I guess it's been 6-1/2 weeks. My 11 y.o. said what is all that gray, I look so old!!!

I'd like to dye the 1/4 inch that's there, but I'm a little worried to do it on account that the scalp will also get dyed I would imagine. It is a medium auburn I have been using for the last 20 years, very nice. But not with red on the head!!! LOL!!!

Nice to discuss the hair yet again.

I am thinking I will NOT let it get goofy. I will spike it or color it blue, but I will not let myself look like David Bowie LOL!!! (I'll come back to whine when this is exactly what it looks like, okay?)

Artsee - So you are about 8 months out, me only 4. Do you think I should do a light trim and cut those wearwolf hairs in hopes of faster growth. My hair used to grow rather fast, but not now! The hair over the ears, I hate to trim those and have to go through this stage that it's at now. I have big ears and just want them to be covered by my hair! Also, did your eyelashes and/or eyebrows come out any time after they came back in?

Morning Goldie and everyone up for the new day....It is good to keep the hair cut. Even if it is a minuet cut. Teensy weensy............

It encourages the hair to grow. Also when the hair comes in after tx the ends are perfect little 'pin points'. Cutting them 'BLUNT' will eventually take the frizzy feel away and will make them seem thicker. It kind of seems odd when your anxiously awaiting for that growth to cut them but it really helps. My hair also is soooo much thicker than I ever had.

My eyelashes have come and gone twice. After they came back after chemo, they fell out THREE month later again. They grow back incredibly fast though. I've heard from my friends who have gone through this, that it happens indefinitely. UGH!Yell

    Hope this helps, Artsee

    Hi Beverly,

I bought it for $60 from a "power seller" because I was worried about getting the real thing.  Not sure why but I was.  Other sellers have it for cheaper with good reviews.

artsee  Are you saying that we will loose our eyelashes on and off indefinitely?  I kept mine all thru chemo...but 8 weeks out they vanished, but came back in quick.  So about every 3 months or so?

I like the description of the new hair coming in with "little points" that is so right on! I have had 2 haircuts, the only part of my hair that has not been cut is my front/bangs as they are growing the slowest.  They still have that point look.  I figure by march I will have 'real' bangs.. geez.  I do take biotin the supplement not sure if it helps or not.  My last chemo was march 27/07 and I have that trendy pixie cut look now.

sunshine - my "re-fallout" was closer to 4 1/2 - 5 months out.  I had set myself up for the "it won't happen to me" frame of mind.  More fool me...it did happen.  Not so much "lost" .... yet.  More thinning.  I have re-added eyeliner to my morning routine to fill in the blanks.  Thank God the head hair doesn't do that.  I have found that the underarm hair does...or mine has just gone to sleep.  I won't complain about that one!

Guess my head resonded less than the lower areas. My legs have never grown much back at all, maybe a dozen per leg...and so fine I have a hard finding them.  The arm pits....neglible.  Southern equator...ha!  Shaved it once, there was so little at about 4-5 months out, but now it's back to nearly normal.  But the eyebrows/lashes, never totally left and are as full as ever, although my brows have never been heavy or thickly grown.

I only lost my eyebrows and eyelashes once...about 4-5 weeks after my neoadjuvant chemo finished, just as I was getting ready for my surgery. So I was out of the office, home recuperating for most of the time when I was sans brows. By the time I returned to work four weeks later, the brows had returned. I didn't have any further loss, although I expected something from the adjuvant chemo, whcih did cause head and other body hair loss again.

The eye lashes took their time coming back and still aren't at their pre-bc length, but they've never fallen out altogether again, nor have the brows.

The brows were thinning pre-bc, as happens in menopause, and they've needed a little filling and shaping with powder for a few years. It was not too hard, then, to fake a full brow when they fell out. I was used to the cosmetics I was using. They're back to their pre-bc fullness, now.

Artsee ... Familyrocks   Thanks for the info...  What a pain...I look horrible without my lashes!  I also have very little underarm hair...but everywhere else (except my head) is growing just like before, except darker!

NancyD....what chemo did you take?  I had TAC ... that may be the difference????

I had TAC, too. Both neoadjuvant and adjuvant.

I think, like all the other side effects, some people get them to a greater degree than others.

I agree NancyD!  I am finsihing up Taxol and everythign I had read and heard was that the weekly doses caused less side effects, wasn't as bad as some others, etc.  However, I have had a hard time.  My Onc has been suprised and said "most" don't react the way my body has and that everyone's bodies metabolize different medications differently.  In the end I think it is a totally individual thing.  You never know what is going to happen.
