Lauren, at least it doesn't look like "Fire Marshall Bill" from the old show In Living Color - does anyone remember Jim Carrey in that role with his tufts of hair randomly sprouting up from his bald head?  That's me!  LOL  I never shaved it all so I still have some strands...

Happy New Year!  God Bless us every one.

Happy New Year, everyone! I'm up in the Adirondecks for a brief vacation...I think it's 9 degrees out, so this is an indoor vacation, especially with so little hair to keep my head warm. Typing on a borrowed laptop...strange keyboards make me homesick Cry. Trying to keep my hair from sticking out all over the place. I'm waking up with "bed head" every morning, now. Even a nap can send it into a scarecrow look. But it's nice to have something to complain about!

Hi, Spring and others... Glad to have found this thread, as coloring my 1/2" or so of new hair is at the top of my list for today -- especially after a rad tech told me on Tuesday that he was going  to give me the same care he would give his Grandmother!  When he made the comment, I thought he was just naming someone he cares a lot about.  But since then, I can't help but wonder exactly what he was saying!   Without reading back through 30+ pages, can someone tell me if a rinse would work to blend in hair that is maybe 1/4 gray, but otherwise very dark.  Or should I go with a semi-permanent product?  Does anyone have any particular brands they can recommend?  I haven't done my own color in years, but was never very good at it when I'd tried.  But, I don't feel like 1/2" (at most) is worth a hair app't.!     Deanna   ~ Happy New Year to all! ~

Ok, I hate this colorless, gray/silver color of my hair. It's a little over an inch long and I am seriously considering some non permanent coloring. My question is this.......my eyebrows are the same ugly color, can you color eyebrows too?

Yes, You can do the eyebrows, Lori.  Back when I did color hair a few times, I always had her do my eyebrows.  B/c of thyroid problems, mine were always sparse, and it helped to darken the lighter ones. :)  Good luck with it!

Have a wedding coming up and wondering what temp color is best. I don't want to go with permanent, b/c I don't plan on continuing to color it, but would like some ALL one color for that weekend, as I'll be seeing many people I've not seen in a couple years.

Any suggestions for somethiing temp and gentle too?

Wishiwere, I used Clairol Natural Instinct. It's a semipermanent coloring.

Jerri, looking good. While I didn't like it, I found being bald satisfied one curiosity I always had--just what, exactly, would I look like...what shape was my head? I just wish it hadn't lasted nine months.

Thanks Nancy.  Is that one that washes out after 8 times or such?

That's what it says on the box, but I'm sure it really depends on the color. I haven't see it wash out completely from my hair. I used Cinnamon Stick.

Speaking of hair color, if you aren't already familiar with it, you may want to check what you're using or planning to use here:

    http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/splash.php?URI=%2Findex.php

I spent a few minutes yesterday in a large health food supermarket looking at natural hair coloring products, but couldn't decide which one to try.  If anyone uses any of these, I'd be interested to know which one(s), although I haven't checked any of them against that list yet, so don't know how their safety stacks up to the more traditional brands.         Deanna

I tried Natural Instincts tonight - med ash blonde and it didn't take on my hair. Still gray! :(

I left it on for 20 minutes!

I might have to try something else...

I talked to my hair lady today while I was waiting for dh, and mentioned I wanted something for that weekend wedding and she suggested to try a colored mousse?  Says it will take the brashness of the gray/white down on mine, so, I'm going to try it one day and see how it goes.

    Fllorik,

What is a semi premanent rinse?? I think I want to try one of those... !!! Do tell...  Give me an example!~!!

Chris, YES!!! I swear, I noticed the same thing recently, it looks like my hair is going from tranluscent to gray-ish! (it wasn't gray before, but maybe this is just how pigment starts coming back?) In any case, any change in hair like more, fuzzier, more color, is a cause for celebration these days!  I love touching my hair! I am always playing with it's fuzziness when the wig comes off at the end of the day! It is like a sign that "I am coming back to life" !!!!!

I also noticed chin hairs coming back in!!! This I could do without! LOL.

OH, and I had my "eyes examined" last week, and of course I told them since las year, you know, all this junk has happened to me, in case there was some "vision related" thing, but it all checked out... But while the eye doctor was peering into my eyes wiht one of those magnifying things, he said, "Oh Look!! Your Eye Lashes are growing back in!" I was so thrilled!!!!

I can even feel them! and my eye brows are now almost "filled out". I am very blonde, so it is sometimes hard to see these things!!!    :)   I am now a week or so shy of being 2 months from my last chemotherapy treatment....

God's Blessings in the New Year.  We certainly can use them.  Haven't posted for a while but I've been trying to keep up with the news and think of you all often.  It's 6 1/2 months now since my last chemo and I gave up my wig on Thanksgiving Day.  It was still pretty short but now is about 2/12 inches and curly.

Concerning color - I used Natural Instincts (formerly Loving Care) a non permanent color at about 3 months.  My hair was coming in mostly white and gray and showing out from under my brown wig.  I used medium ash brown  - a color I used years ago and it came out with a purplish tint. I tried once more - same thing so I saw my hair dresser for a permanent color.  Much better.  The color has been taking a little differently each time until the last coloring but no purple.  I guess that's due to the changing chemo hair.

My head has been itching the last few weeks.  I had the school nurse where I work check for head lice and it's fine.  I wonder if the dye is too irritating?  It doesn't seem to be dry scalp.  Any ideas?

Hey girls! I too have had some surprises with the colouring biz (after swearing I would not tamper with my NEW hair!). I don't care..it's HAIR! Sandy, I've had the itching...AND had the head-lice thoughts. But mine was itchy before I dyed the hair. I'm thinking it's just the follicles & blood vessels getting their acts together after the knock-down by chemo.  XXX

I saw my hairdresser yesterday when I went to have my eyebrows waxed.  YES, I'm back to having them waxed, all the holes filled in and they keep their shape nicely now. They grow in more slowly than they did before so I don't need to have them waxed as frquently, which is nice and saves me some $.  And I still appreciated the ouchies when they get pulled out -- it's so nice that they want to stay in there!

Anyway, I asked her what she suggested I do with my fuzzy curly locks and she said "nothing." She won't use a chemical straightener on brand-new hair and it's probably too short for a flatiron. And she doesn't think I should trim it at all, since what I want is for it to grow longer, so that at some point gravity will do its thing on me. In the meantime I'm just going to keep using hair products to contain the frizzies. Fortunately the color has come back exactly the same as pre-chemo, brown with a few gray hairs here and there. So give it a little time if you think you are coming back with more gray than before, it took some time for mine to fill in and really look normal again, and the tips are still that transluscent whitish non-color, although now it looks more like frosted blonde. It's actually darker than before because it's brand-new hair that hasn't been exposed to the sun - I expect it will lighten a bit in the summertime.

Hang in there, hair is coming!!!

    Deanna,

Sad that almost nothing we normally use is on the "safe" range on the chart. What price beauty, eh?

Well my hairdresser was suppose to come by and check me out Friday, but guess she got busy and didn't make it.. I was so looking forward to my new look...but I'm still that ugly mousey grey and it's very very curly.... I'm still wearing my wig to work and scarfs at home :)  I started to buy some color yesterday, but with my luck no telling what color I would end up? So I'm going to just bear with it until I call her back.  I'm starting my strict diet Monday!  My husband booked me and my younger daughter airline tickets to go see my daughter in Hawaii Spring Break!!!!!! He is such a doll!  I've gained 20 lbs so I have alot of work to do.  But I did eat everything I wanted during the Christmas Holidays!  Good Luck to all of you ladies on coloring!

Nancy ~  I know.  I recently bought a skin serum at Henry's (a smaller Whole Foods store), and took it back after checking it out on that list.  During chemo, I'd used an Avon moisturizer (had never tried that brand) that I got at my Look Good Feel Better class, and it was wonderful, but is rated a 9!  So, I've honestly been debating whether I should buy it again.  I keep telling myself that Avon does so much for bc, I should buy it and use it sparingly (LOL)!  Oh, what we won't justify for beauty!    Deanna

Hi all,  so glad to hear that hair is coming in for most!  It takes time.  I'm curious if any of you have waxed the peach fuzz on your face? If so, has it come back after waxing?

    Tiff:

I had a healthy growth of peach fuzz as well, and shaved it off a couple of months ago.  It has not grown back!

Okay, went to the site, but how do you search to find information for hair and skin that don't include estrogens?  Feeling really stupid, as I can't find my products and not sure what I am looking for on the ones I do find :(  ANyone?

DIdn't have the chin stuff, but the area in front of the ears/side of face had the fuzzy's.  Hated it.  Did a facial scrub about 4 wks out of chemo and most dissapeared.  Many have said the same, that it just disappeared soon after the hair started growing in. :)

    Wish,

How soon is soon? I am  3 months out of chemo and over 1 month out of rads. What kind of facial scrub did you use. I might be more willing to try that as oppose to shaving.

goldie....don't shave. You'll be sorry. I don't know that a scrub will get rid of hair but I got this thing called "Tweezy" and it actualy pulls the long ones out and you keep the natural really short stuff.

    It works very well.

    Good luck, Artsee

Ok I'm 5 months out of chemo today...My hair is maybe 1/2" long When I stretch it out!...It is very curly.  Is there anyone else with this short of hair with so much time since chemo?  I feel like it is not growing and I don't know what to do.. I bought the scalp cleanser and treatment and have been using it since I finished radiation...11 weeks ago.

O.K. first of all your hair really doesn't start to grow till about 5 weeks after chemo. It seems at first it's not making any headway but then it starts.I'm 7 month from chemo and my hair is 3 inches long. Everyone is different. I know that some ladys on these threads just grew back very slowly. I do use the Nioxin products faithfully as well.
