I'm two weeks post (T/C) chemo and I have fuzz coming in already. The thing is, I didn't wear hats or wigs so I shaved everyday. I'd say I had 90% "fall out."
Some of it feels like my husbands beard and some of it feels like sparse velvet but there are still big bare spots. I was really hoping it would all grow back at once. Did this happen to anyone else?

Hi. I have the same question as Renee. I am 4 weeks post chemo and my hair start growing last Thursday. Some stubbly, some baby soft. How long until it actually LOOKS like hair to the non-judgemental eye?
Also, susan13 - I LOVE your avatar!!!!!!

This picture thing is making me nutz!!! The pics show for me. Maybe it is because the picasa is behind a password. I will try to think of something else!!!

My experience - last dose of Taxol and Herceptin was Oct 30. By the first of the year (6-8 weeks later) I had fuzz around my ears, like a man who goes bald, some around the ears and back. About a month later, my whole head was covered in a downy, very fine, soft hair. Since it was winter weather, I still wore caps and wig to keep my head warm. Once it got warmer, I went without a hat or scarf or wig and felt like I qualified as having enough hair to be out in public. Most people like it, or they are being kind and NOT saying I look like a scalped chicken.
The longest part is around my ears, like a guy who needs a trim. Since My hair was short for many years, I do not mind it this way. My eyebrows are back in full force, even fuller than I ever remember and I am heading for the Walter Matheau look !!! Leg hair and nether region is back, but none on my arms or pits.
Since I get Herceptin only every 3 weeks (next one is Thursday) I do not expect it to grow as fast as it did "before". Having NO hair for 6 months was not all that bad, as I look back.

Here is a link to BEFORE and AFTER Swedish Blonde Henna hair pics.
Let me know if that works??

Hi Spring: Your link worked and your hair looks so pretty! Looks like you chose the right colour right off the bat!
Cheers!

Hair looks great Spring. Now I need to buy some colour as well. Mine is about the same length as yours.

Hi - Just curious...any Asian women on this board? I'm just real curious if y hair will come back curly like everyone is saying. Also, at what point did you all ditch your wig? Mine hasn't started growing back yet, but I want to have a time frame in mind. I am sooo anxious for hair growth!

Apfuentes, I am in the "process" of ditching my wig. My last chemo was Nov 10th, so about 17 weeks ago. I am now wearing "ball caps", and I colored the gray. It's very short, but full coverage and no longer bald, plus it got hot around here lately!0
-
HI
Apfuentes, Last chemo was Oct. 31 & I stopped wearing my wig in January. But I live in southern Calif and in the desert so didn't really have harsh weather to cover up for. Hair is only about 1 1/4 inches but thick...and silver in front!

Spring,
Your hair turned out really really good. It didn't appear to look all that bad before tho! I wish I could have gotten a lighter shade out of mine. Maybe my gray was much darker than yours.....lol! Yours almost looked blonde before the henna.

Goldie, that's what I thought but I was afraid to say it. Spring's hair looked "Swedish blonde" even before she used the Swedish blonde stuff on it.
I finally sprung for some leave-in conditioner that I'm gonna start using today (been using my usual shampoo-rinse-conditioner-rinse routine up til now). I'll let y'all know how it works. It's not the DEVA curly-girl kind (sorry, Noelle), but I read the tiny print on the label and I think it will do.

My henna is fading! Glad you all think I have some blonde even in the gray state! ha! (How rude of my hair that has been covered in color to come in after chemo the GRAY I have been hiding all these years!!!)
Next, Strawberry Blonde Henna. More red tones. LOL
Spring.
Otter - let us know if that leave in stuff gives you some lift or what?

Hi all--
My hair started growing back (well, apikes and fuzz) after my last FEC and has continued to inch its way out...about 1/4 of an inch now, 8 weeks after the last FEC (but three weeks after the last taxotere). So I can see it will grow (if slowly and come in grey and so on) There is progress here!
But what about the rest of my hair? My eyebrows/lashes are thinking about it--little dots and miniature lashes. But--no underarm hair (not that I miss that much) or leg hair (don't miss tht either) and (this does bother me) no "private"hair. Somehow it's that and the head hair that bother me most.
Question: I may be interviewing for a new job in about a month. They know about my bc and treatments, but how do I minimize the impact of a prectically-bald woman? I want to project an image of a competent, energetic person who can hit the ground running and do wonderful things for them--and I'm worried that my baldness will project the opposite--"oh, the poor cancer patient!" I don't use or have a wig, I usually wear a beret or bucket-style hat.
Thoughts/suggestions?

Hmm, can you get some of those bangs and sideburn things and let them hang out of your bucket hat? (TLC site?)
The eye lashes/brows and "private" hair, hair on underarms and legs are coming soon! At the end of Dec, my eye doctor said, "your lashes are coming back" (He could see under that scope thing). All of a sudden, everything started. I am shaving pits and legs again, OH, and plucking FACIAL HAIRS!!! Not long for you now, Torch...

I have read a lot on these threads and comforted to find out my hair situation tracks....I'm about six weeks out of chemo - odd wispy hair - very inconsistent, unsightly.I was looking to see if anyone shaved their head to see if it would grow back more evenly now that it has started to sprout -- I hate to shave the few stubs that I have, but it seems so odd that I am wondering if it would help to "level the field" up there, so to speak. Anyone?

Keryl, it's up to you, but I would wait awhile. What you're seeing at this point isn't really the "real" hair anyway. Give it another couple of weeks. OTOH, I guess if you shaved it now, you would take off all those wispy ends that will be a nuisance 2 months from now.
Torch, all that other hair will grow back, faster than you think. It sort of depends whether you're taking an estrogen blocker (which can make things grow more slowly or be thinner). Since you're triple-negative, your regrowth should be fine. As for the "professional", non-cancer-girl issue: I didn't buy or wear a wig, either. On the days I really needed to look good (not sure I ever managed that), I wore a nice, classy-looking scarf. I guess it depends on the type of job, doesn't it? If it's something rough-and-tumble, a cap might work out fine. If it's a meeting-the-public job, I think a scarf would be good. I'm not the local fashion expert, though (heh heh). Wait for more suggestions.
Spring, you said: "...let us know if that leave in stuff gives you some lift or what?" Hey, I hope not. I don't need any more "lift" than I've already got with these curly-curls. I'd like something that will keep the curls but tame things down a bit, so as to avoid the little-orphan-Annie look:
(No, Artsee, that is not me in that pic.)

Otter... whaddya mean... if you're on an estrogen blocker, it will grow back slower and/or thinner? I've just started chemo... expecting to lose my hair this week...0
-
I'm on tamoxifen and my hair came back just as thick as it was pre-chemo. I'm not sure about timing -- it felt like forever but I think it grew back 1/2 inch per month, starting at about 2 months post-chemo, just like everyone said it would.
Otter, I've been using the same products to tame my curls that I used on my hair back when it was long: a combination of pantene curl creme and gel. It makes a huge difference. Without the products I look a lot like that Annie picture, except that my hair is thicker so it's a bit more like an Afro (and it's brown).

Torch, you want to project an image of a competent, energetic person who can hit the ground running and do wonderful things for them--
Think of what you are saying and then look in the mirror! You are a very attractive bald woman. Some of us can pull it off and some can't. I happen to be one of the latter!
Keryl, I agree with Otter. Do a trim now or later. I did mine later. I think because I was so excited to be getting hair, I did not want to take any of it away!
Otter, I hope the leave in stuff gives you some satisfaction (and no lift). That is what I use, makes a big dif to me. I am almost ready to go out in public au natual, which I have not done yet to this day. ALWAYS wear my wig, thank goodness it's only once a week.
Spring, it's washing out already? I don't remember if you said how much you paid for it, I hope it wasn't much.....and then there is the shipping charge on top of it. My color treatment only cost about $5, I have had it in about 6 weeks I think. It is starting to wash out now, but still has color to it, unless that is my own hair changing, which could be a possibility. I am not going to color it again, unless it turns more gray than anything else.

Goldie, Yeah I think the henna is fading. I am going to try one with more red next time.
I went to my "circle" last night, (for the first time in 8 months since BC!!) dinner at someone's home and a lesson, and wore a ballcap over my 17 week post chemo hair. They rubbed my head and told me I didn't need a ball cap, didn't I know that short hair was very European and Cosmopolitan?? Etc. Sweet! However, I need just a little more before I ditch the ball cap in public...
It's an interesting journey, isn't it? I've noticed that having even a little hair up there has me much more comfortable than "bald". Bald felt naked to me... funny.

Spring,
I loved your hair pics too! I am considering coloring what little whispy fuzz I do have as it's translucent and I prefer a warm reddish color. I agreed with what you said how "bald felt naked". It's so revealing to have no hair on your head... sort of like other people can "see inside your head" or something.
0 -
Cali - Let us know how the reddish turns out! I am moving on to Strawberry Blonde next.
Yeah, funny how even a little hair seems to help with the "naked head" feeling.... I just wish I had more "bangs" now. I think I could pull this off as a style if I had more bangs in the front!!!
