Mumayan, I say "Do what you are comfortable with."  I hated my gray, so I colored it. I just used a non permanent color. It has been about 5 weeks and still has color and I can't see any "roots". That being said, my is either changing colors, or not growing!

But I think it is changing colors, because it is growing for sure.

I am 42 and my hair is coming in completely grey. (and I hate it).  I have a few hair jells I use, if I want to be totally different I put my blue jell in it.  I also have yellow jell that I use.  I tried putting a temp coloue in it and it all came out.  So I have given up on that.  Next week I am going to the hair dresser to have her colour my hair because I am going to a wedding in May in Hawaii and refuse to have grey hair.  So we are going to test out some colours to see if they stick.  Mind you my hair is only about and inch maybe an inch and a half.

Mumayan, I am in the same dilema, I got some semi permanent color, and the henna is in the mail. i am going to try this and see. I am not committing yet! Mine is much more gray than blonde when au natural!

Linda, OK, I will report back once I do the henna! I am so excited. Can't wait for it to arrive! OK, 40 min, wear gloves, CHECK!

Goldie, will check those wigs out! Those were the colors I thought. So on the short one, it does not cover your hair, where, in the back? I wondered about that. I was thinking of a really really short one to transition me to my own extra super short hair. Let me know if that didn't work for you?

I am in ballcaps in the house. When we go out to eat I put the wig on. I've gone other local places with a cap. I am never sure what to put on my head. I will be glad when this is over, this phase, and I am fully commando.

Smile, hang in there. You're over the hump now. You are not alone, there are a bunch of women here in all stages of their hair! I love when pics are posted showing curls and stuff. Gives me hope!

Mumayan, my pre-chemo hair (my natural color) was brown with red highlights.  I had a little bit of gray at the temples, and occasional but rare gray hairs scattered throughout (you could barely see them without searching for them).

My immediate post-chemo hair (8 wks or so) was fine, wispy, and colorless.  That quickly changed to a steely gray color, which I decided was the color of a house mouse.  My hair was maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch long at that point.  The house-mouse gray was completely different from the age-related gray I had before chemo.  The house-mouse gray covered my whole head.

Eventually, that house-mouse gray grew out to my normal brown-with-red-highlights.  The wispy ends were still there, which for awhile made it look like I'd had my short, curly hair frosted.  Then, yesterday, my hairdresser trimmed the ends.  Now my still-short-and-curly hair is medium-brown, with a few red hairs scattered throughout and some gray at the temples.

That's pretty much the color it was pre-chemo, I think.  There might be a bit more gray mixed in, but it's really scattered and not very obvious.  After all, at 56 years old, I'm entitled to a few gray hairs, right?

Lori I too only have 11/2 inch length to deal with.  I think I will go with otters idea of the same colour and look as pre chemo.  A few greys are fine just don't want to look like a sick old lady.

I agree, everyone should do what makes her most comfortable. I am FINALLY feeling like me again.  I've started wearing my hair pulled back in combs and clips, which gives the illusion of longer hair. I don't feel like I have a head full of chemo-regrowth puffy curls that resemble Harpo Marx without the top hat. I feel like I have a decent curly-hair style -- and I actually get compliments for it occasionally!

I also had the frosted tips for a while -- I haven't done a trim but they have sort of disappeared.  My progression was very similar to Otter's -- I thought my hair was coming in much more gray than before, but over time it turned back to my regular medium brown.  Actually, it looks darker than pre-chemo because it's new hair that hasn't been exposed to much sun, I expect it will lighten a bit in the summertime.

Spring - enjoy the henna! Post pics if you can.

I wish all of you happy, healthy, fast-growing hair follicles!

Spring, I wore the blonde wig all thru treatment. When my hair started to grow, that ugly ugly gray, the problem was mostly in front of the ears. It wasn't long enough to tuck up into the wig, and you could see it. If it blended in, that would have been ok. I suppose if it were bleached to blend it, that would have worked, but I wasn't willing to bleach my hair. So, I got the longer one. At that is what I wear now when I go out. I don't look good in hats or scarves, didn't do that at all. As for my blond wig,, I have given it to someone else I know that was just diagnosed with BC. She had long blond hair and I do not know if she is using it or not. I just gave it to last week and haven't spoke to her yet.

I hope your henna gave you good results.

I am 47 and my hair came back grey and brown mixed.  I started coloring as soon as I had hair.. in fact the first color colored my scalp LOL.  I did use temporary Natural Instincts lasts about 28 shampoos and is pretty gentle on your hair.  I am now almost ... (March 27) a year out of treatment and my hair is just about ear lobe length.  I have had 3 haircuts and will be due for another probably in about 3 weeks.  I feel too young to leave my hair grey plus my grey is so colourless.  I know another bc survivor who is 51 and her hair came in curly , curly (mine has a wave but not curly) and it is the most beautiful shade of charcoal grey mixed with dark brown.  Very nice. I  think she wants to colour but for now I think it looks great!

I know it is depressing how long it takes the hair to come back.  But then it came out completely.. and has to start from nothing... i did read that it takes a good 18 months to get your hair really moving and to be honest mine just recently seems to be growing fast!

    Hi folks,

I am four months out and have hair all over my head but it is only about I inch long.  Will it start to grow faster now?   How does my experience compare to yours?

    Hi galz,

I also use the Natural Instincts and have since I stopped breastfeeding my baby. Before that I was using something else, I forget ... as a kid had coppery brown and then at puberty it turned blackish, so the Natural Instincts Cinnaberry is perfect for me and it's kind to my hair, don't get the straw stuff any more. Actually was ready for a change so went a shade darker (to make new hair more impact-ful, LOL!) so am doing Roasted Chestnut, which is your basic brown with just a teensy bit of red shade.

Should take a pic of this on account it is curly today, kind of cute actually if you ask me. I had been sort of straightening the Groucho unrulys with my hands, but today I'm happy with the corkscrew hair.

    Goldie and others,

I want to post before and after "Sweedish Blonde" henna hair pictures, but I can't figure out how to post an image that is not already out on the web? (Do you have to load pictures to a web site? No other way to post?)

Anyhow it looks pretty good! No gray! All a nice blonde. I am moving on to Strawberry Blonde or "Rich Golden Blonde" next time. I'd like to have more "red tones". So fun!

    Hair 3/9/09 ~ 3-1/2 months out

Okay, here's the hair at 3-1/2 months out. About an inch long, as soon as it gets warmer I'll just go au naturel. I think of it as my Mia Farrow look. A great improvement over The Donald Trump, The Zero Mostel, and The Beetlejuice. The color is Clairol Natural Instincts in 28B Roasted Chestnut. It's semi-permanent, which for me means I am going for a new application only about once every three months. It sort of slowly comes off, leaving golden grey highlights which are not bad at all, kinda nice. Some people pay for highlights ... When I look in the mirror and it looks grey as opposed to highlit, then I go for another apply - takes 10 minutes, quite fast.

Hello Everybody...It's been along time since I've been here but checked in to see how everybody's doing. looks like everyone is moving ahead and growing. Kind of gets back to some normalcy doesn't it. I have had 4 cuts since summer and my hair is now back to it's natural STRAIGHT as sticks hair. I kind of miss the waves but I can do a lot more styling when it's straight. I want to report that  my lashes are falling out again for the fourth time. This is unbelievable. It's just a good thing that they do grow back very fast.

Unique....Actually it was said that hair color can cause stomach cancer for some reason. I've been coloring since I was 15 and decided to get BC instead.Take care and happy growing.

    Hugs, Artsee

Looking good Unique!!  I finished chemo the 5th of Feb.,and since then all my eyelashes have fallen out and most of my eyebrows.Hope i have some hair by summer!!  I got brave this last week or so and started going out to the mailbox, and in the yard hatless,if the day is warm.I have to wear a stocking cap under my hats as they keep riding up and moving around if i don't,so i'm more comfortable without them.

Kathi, the [edit] [delete] is there so you can go back and edit your post, or delete it if you want to.  Nobody else sees the [edit] [delete] under your post, or under anyone else's except their own.

Spring, has anyone given you any help with posting pics?  You asked this:  "I can't figure out how to post an image that is not already out on the web? (Do you have to load pictures to a web site? No other way to post?)"

I don't know the technical terms, but I think it's true that you first have to upload your image to a website so it gets assigned a URL.  Then you can transfer your image from there to a BCO post.  There are quite a few options for sites that will "host" your image and provide it with a URL.  I use Photobucket (www.photobucket.com), and I follow the instructions provided by Timtam (Fumi), which she has provided here:  http://tamako.milkcafe.to/luv/bco_photobucket/index.htm

Once you create an account at a site that will let you store your image, then you can follow Timtam's instructions for uploading the image from your computer.  After that, go to the BCO boards and start your new post.  Follow Timtam's instructions to "copy" your image and put it into your post.

As you're composing a post, look at the top of the compose box and you'll see a little green tree.  If you click on that tree, you'll get a new window that says, "Insert/Edit Image."  It has a line for copying the URL of your image.   You can also re-size it, if necessary, from that window.  Timtam's instructions are really good for explaining this, and she included pictures of what the screen will look like as you're doing it.

I can't explain it very well.  Maybe if you still can't figure it out, you can PM Timtam and she can give you some suggestions.  The bottom line is, I don't think it will work to just "copy" and "paste" an image to a BCO post.

    Hi,

I have a web site and so I upload my pics to that location, then there is an address to put in the blank that appears when you click on the tree. I am on other sites (Etsy.com) where I can upload directly from my computer so I do think this is cumbersome. And you can upload your avatar directly, right? I think I could upload my avatar directly. I did a new one a couple weeks ago, it must be chemo brain, I have no memory of what I did, LOL!

Joanne, It seems to me that my hair is taking FOREVER to grow. But this is probably just a little slower than normal hair growth. Actually I got dark spots on my scalp almost a month to the day after my last chemo infusion. It was freaky in the beginning, but starting looking great after about a week. I mean, after having no hair, a 5-oclock shadow on your head really is something!!! I'm fairly happy with mine at 1 inch, partly because I've had my hair short before. Maybe not quite this short, and I had bangs previously. But this isn't bad, and if it's warm tomorrow I may just ditch the hat.

    Otter and Unique -

Ok about the pictures. I have posted images with the "Tree" icon and the URLs, just wondered if there was a way to suck it straight off the computer! I guess not. I will put my pics on my Picasa and then post them here.... << off to do that now...>>  Yep worked just fine, you need the URL!!

    Before the henna...

    before

    After Henna ("Swedish Blonde")

    after

I am almost 17 weeks since last chemo.Next I am goin to try "Strawberry blonde" and maybe "Rich Golden Blonde" to get more color and red tones... (!!!) fun!!!!!!

I am finding the Henna's at Allstatebeauty.com, (Surya) very reasonably priced, and I only need HALF given the amount of hair !!! LOL. At least there's an upside there! The cancer center's Nurse Navigator suggested this because of natural ingredients and no amonia or peroxide chemicals, etc.
