AEM - funny but true the grey isn't bothering me yet. I do like the easy maintenance of it; I just put some mousse in it and I'm done. It's been very liberating for me since I went topless. It's funny to see people's reactions to me now that I don't have my wig. My wig was awesome but I'm so glad to not put it on now!!!!!!! I'm hoping there won't be much grey though once this initial phase is through!

AEM - you are totally rocking that look! You go!

Hi, ladies. Okay, I am 3 years out PFC and while the hair on my head has grown back (finally) to be almost normal (and would be kind of long, had I not kept trimming and cutting, and then had a bob over the winter - what the hell was I thinking?), the brows, after the initial falling out 2 months after chemo, and lashes, which fell out the same day (talk about waking up feeling like Uncle Fester), grew back initially nice and thick, fell out a bit more and have now stayed at a very thin, and continuing to thin, line. Eyelashes are a bit better, but uneven, and one eye is normal, with long lashes, the other eye has uneven long and short.
I use pencil and powder/wax on the brows to fill them in every day, and thank goodness for lengthening mascara! Anyone this far out from chemo having these issues, and if so, have you used anything on the brows to try and bring them back to full? I get the baby hairs around them, and still need to pluck (because all the hairs under the brow, around it, etc. are growing just fine - it's just the actual brow itself).
I have never stopped taking biotin, and it has helped my hair and nails grow and stay healthy, so no reason to stop now. I did use Rogaine for women back in the PFC days, because I had a terrible terrible scalp infection after chemo that prohibited my hair from growing for months, I don't know if it helped at all, or if you can use it on your brows (anything that close to the eyes is a bit scary).
For all you lovely ladies rocking the faux hawks - they look great! I found that for those with the fuzzies just coming in that is too short to color, the brow gel that looks like mascara and deposits color on your brows, works really well. A few of us from 2009 also experimented with brown eyeshadow on the balder spots, to give the allusion of hair. We were a fairly desparate bunch! And yes, it is important to us, because as women, our hair is as much a part of our features and look as anything else, and it is startling not only for us to see a woman (ourselves) without hair, but society too.
Take care, everyone.

AEM you look adorable! Great smile ! The short hair suits you.

Yay! My lashes and brows are growing!! They are tiny and blonde but I can see them with electron microscope magnification... The brows are mainly coming in centrally, the outer ends aren't showing anything yet...

AEM..love you as a brunette!

AEM Wow you look gorgeous with dark short hair..Ofcouse it helps that you are beautiful. At 10 weeks I still only have peach fuzz...

AEM - I agree, the dark short hair is adorable on you. You have the beautiful face for it! Mine is probably as long but I am not ready to get a trim, emotionally that is. The sides are starting to do a little sticking out from the humidity but I just can't bring myself to have ANY of it trimmed yet!

Kelly I totally understand! I am 13 months PFC today and I will not cut a single hair! Try a product called "Got to be Glued" It's a very strong gooey hair glue (gel?) that worked beautifully to keep those little suckers from sticking out. It's in a bright yellow tube - by the hair gels!

Thanks MamaV I'll give it a try!

Cheley, I understand your issues completely as they're similar to mine. I'm 17 months PFC. I had loved my hair when it was growing in and received a lot of compliments on it due to the color and the curls when they started relaxing. Now that I've had a few hair cuts most of the curl is gone and I can't do much with the hair but at least I've got it so I'm grateful for that but miss the compliments. Lol. My brows and lashes are my big issues. At first they grew in but not completely and then I lost most of them and they re-grew but I have thin eyelashes with no volume and I think there are still some clear ones in the mix that stay short so mascara doesn't help. Like you, one set of lashes is better than the other and I sometimes still get them curled inward. That is a pain you know where. My brows are the worst problem. I get the fine hairs above the brows and a little bit under but nothing to fill in the actual brows. I had them threaded sometime back and now nothing grows between my eyes where I always had to remove the hair. This is all so weird for us. I hope someone can help us. I use pencils and powders but I would love to find something to help fill in with real hair.

AEM - you look great!!!!!
I know there was some discussion of this a while back, but I was hoping you ladies would have some more info. I am really considering getting extensions when my hair is long enough. Has anyone done that and if so, how long did you wait PFC and what length was your hair? I am one of those people who don't look that great in short hair, but I can't stand the thought of wearing this wig for any longer than I have to. I know someone recommended great lengths hair extensions but was wondering if that is the only kind that has been tried on chemo hair.

slak - Great question. I keep wondering just how much hair I need before I can get extensions. I'm 6 months pfc today and while I have full coverage and a little over an inch all over, I'm just not used to the short look on me and would love to get some length in a hurry!

I am 4 weeks past chemo and I have white baby duck fur that sticks out from under my wig! Thinking of going "au natural" if it doesn't scare peoplel too much. Am trying the Mary Kay brow and lash product, so far nothing yet.

AEM you look beautiful! I can't wait to have that much hair!

Aem you do look beautiful. I think I prefer the darker hair color on you. Envious of all your hair growth:(. I am still wearing that damn"rat" 20 wks pfc!!!!!!!

Aem: You look gorgeous!
Tina and MamaV: Thanks for the hair product tips. I keep taking notes on post-its all over the counter.
I took my wig off at work today and went topless for 7 of the 9 hours. I work with mostly women and they all know my situation, but this is the first time I felt confident, because my entire head is covered with dark hair (and white mixed in). No bald spots, 6 weeks PFC. I, too, am using 5000 Mcg of Biotin, but am looking for anything to facilitate hair growth. Still will have to wear that darned wig to events out. I hate it more every day.
As far as eyelashes go, I lost a bunch but now they are coming back and longer than ever. I have latisse, but haven't used it yet. I have a feeling I will lose my lashes/brows again and don't want to waste good money spent on latisse until I know the lashes are somewhat permanent. I am using a product by Peter Thomas Roth (for eyelash growth). I think it's helping.

Whatashocker - OMG..."that dam rat" had me laughing so hard I almost spit water out of my nose !!!!0

AEM -- you look great! Your hair is SO long for 14 weeks!
jpmom --- lmao @ electron microscope magnification!
Oh -- Gonna try some the 'Got to be Glued' for the weird poofs and spikes that are appearing as the hair gets longer. Thanks for the tip!
Those of you a year out that have re-lost your eyebrows after they initially grew in fine.... curious.... when did they fall out again?

Shera - Great thing about "Got to Be Glued" in addition to the amazing hold, it then washes out like conditioner! Soooo soft! And for lashes/brows - I'm 13 months PFC and I've had a loss/regrow cycle every 3 months. Each one gets less and less severe. Brace yourself - it's a long ride!

I love Got to be Glued. It does wonders for my one sided curl. I'm thinking of trying it on my eyebrows. They now want to grow straight out!
0 -
Which got to be glued are you who like it using? There are so many varieties of it.
0 -
My eyelashes so far have only regenerated twice so I'm hoping that's it but my brows did the first time a couple of months after they first grew back and grow down rather than sideways. I've tried gel and hairspray but now I'll try that Got to be Glued. It sounds hopeful. The brows tend to stay the same now without filling in where they need to. I'm at a point I'm afraid to pluck any hair for fear nothing will grow back ever since the middle brow hasn't come back at all. I'm not complaining about that but am afraid of any other part of my brows.
Has anyone dyed their brows when they're missing brow hairs? I'm desperate here. lol0 -
The got to be glued I used was in a Bright yellow tube - hope that helps.

Hello Ladies ---
Here's my hair journal so far if you'd like a peek - I'm 13 weeks PFC & decided to take pics from month to month, so it does appear to be growing back fairly quickly when you see the change after 5 weeks. I'll take them every 4 weeks from here on out.Chemo Hair Before & After
I lost almost all my lashes 6 weeks PFC, but it's almost like the new ones were pushing out the old because they filled back in very fast. The length took about a full month to get back to normal though. My brows thinned a lot, but held on & then sprouted new ones very quickly too. Loosing my lashes & brows bothered me more than my hair! I'll know what to expect when the next 3 month cycle comes around.Am hoping at least some of the gray disappears as the "Baby Bunny" hair grows out, & I sure wouldn't mind a few curls - or maybe just a bit of wave since my hair has been poker straight my whole life..I know: be careful what you wish for...LOL. At least at this stage it appears to want to lay down & not stick straight up - I'll take it any which way!

fitz..
I had my brows dyed two weeks ago.. One side is very sparse, but it worked great to the point |I do not have to pencil them in

Fitz, I found that applying (dark brown or dark gray) eye shadow with a q-tip to my eyebrows worked well, esp when they were all gone, so filling in missing or thin areas may do the trick for you. Carol

CAHY...very nice journal...I am about 22 weeks PFC and my regrowth is very similar to yours. I think yours has a nicer shape....this week I am trying to train this bunny hair to grow down at the back and get rid of the cowlick. Never had one before but sure is hard to get rid of it. Mine also grew back gray and I won't bother to colour it again.

Shore1, I'm using the one in the black tube, got to be ultra glued.

CAYH: Your hair looks great! I am 6 weeks pfc and it's coming in, but yours looks like it's growing by leaps and bounds! Love your wig, too!
