Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Hi Everyone, I haven't posted here for awhile, and I see a lot of new names. I thought I'd post a new photo to offer encouragement to you ladies who are waiting for your hair to return. I am almost 11 months PFC, and finally feel like I have a reasonably normal head of hair. I finished Herceptin in August, and growth has definitely increased since then. I still don't like the texture or the amount of time it takes to look "reasonably normal", but I am SO thankful to have it.
This was then (Dec 2011, 3 weeks PFC)
This is now (Oct 2012, almost 11 months PFC)

Wow Miz Marie - you look amazing! In BOTH photos!

I am five months PFC and today I had my first haircut in nearly a year - the free one offered to all breast cancer patients this month at J.C. Penney.
I'm not quite ready for prime time yet but at least all the two inch hairs on my head are in alignment now. They also gave me cosmetic samples.
A very nice gesture, IMHO.

MizMarie- I love your hair- looks like a real chosen style. New glasses too. What are you doing to make it behave and do you have plans to grow it longer?
Joan- will you be posting a picture?0 -
I'll second what Joan said, MizMarie!
Glad to hear you're coming along, Joan - nice to have a little pampering now & then, Isn't it? I'm 6 months out now & my hair finally feels super thick when I run my fingers through it - although it feels like someone else's hair entirely since I'm still getting used to the feeling of these curls...I love 'em!0 -
Thank you - it's been a very long year waiting for hair that looks somewhat like my own. I always had thick, curly hair, but the chemo curls are more like sheep's wool than human hair LOL. Nkb, I use keratin styling lotion, macadamia oil, and a flat iron. I haven't had it cut yet - just haven't been able to bring myself to do it, plus, my hair lady moved out of the area. Maybe after it's grown another inch or two I'll take the plunge...

MizMarie: Boy, your hair is really growing long! It looks great!

You look AMAZING! I am so happy for you. I did not have the same luck. Mine took 2 years to get to your latest photo and then in the last 6 months, it grew like crazy. That waiting to have something decent almost drove me crazy. i drove my friends crazy. when it finally got to something, I have never had a bad hair day since... Any hair doing whatever it wants to is better than none... I'm so grateful.. and that's what worries me about Taxol..

p.s. doesn't it feel SO good to rub your own hair.. the sensation of having hair again.. it's so wonderful..

My current avatar pic was taken yesterday and I am 4 months PFC tomorrow.

Wow.. you are one lucky girl....

It does feel good to rub my hair--I know exactly how you feel. It's funny--the gals I work with like to "pet" my head because my hair is so soft. They want to know what "products" I use. When I tell them shampoo and conditioner, they can't believe it!

I just developed my self-confidence back when I knew I wasn't wearing a wig.. it was MY OWN!!!

MizMarie
Wow, you have a lotta hair! You look fantastic!
kj
Your's is growing in very nicely. I'm 6 months PFC and have about as much. Darn herceptin!

I ditched the wig in early August, it was just way too hot to wear in the summer. I wore it once to a party in September and that was the end of that. Having a couple of inches of hair just makes it slide around alot. Now I'm either topless or out wearing a cute hat. I was never a hat person before, but I'm loving them now. I have quite a collection going on LOL!

Karen - wow your hair is really coming in nicely! I have coverage now about an inch long, but it still looks like i had cancer, so I'm still wearing the wig to work. I am hoping to ditch it by December.
MizMarie - beautiful! Love the style and your new glasses!

Myleftboob: I never wore hats either. 1) I have a small head; 2) I hated hate head hair. I have a really cute collection too.
Kim: Thanks. My hair is very thick, even though I think it's pretty short. I feel like it's still a chemo "do". YOu need to post a pic!

I'm 14 weeks PFC. I colored my hair this morning with a gentle, non-ammonia color then I went topless for the first time!! It was so liberating! I went to the store and out to eat with some work friends. I plan on going to work tomorrow topless as well. I never thought I'd do it this early but it is so thick but still short. I figured another week or two isn't going to make that much differance in the length anyhow. I was so tired of wearing a cap on my head at work all the time. I'd get very hot and sweaty. This will be be great!

Most people at work don't know about the cancer, and they surely will when I walk in with my boy cut. Though now I am emotionally fine with people knowing, just not sure I'm ready for it. I work with mostly men, all the women in the office know.
Karen, i do need to post a pic - I will work on that this week!

MizMarie..love the hair..encouraging for me I am 7monthsPFC but still on herceptin so i don't have a lot of hair maybe and inch or so..I get my last herceptin the last week in November so I hope it grows a little faster!

RN4babies; Congrats. It is VERY liberating. My friends told me not to wear the wig--they liked my short do better--and they loved the wig! Go figure!
Kim: Anxious to see your new "do"

Hi Ladies. I finished chemo on March 20th (still doing herceptin), and I finally have about 2 inches of hair. I am wondering if anyone has tried clip in extensions? How long does your hair need to be for this? I had long, straight hair before this, and I miss it terribly. I hate looking at myself in the mirror. I never wore a wig, scarf, or hat during treatment because I just wanted to be comfortable and all of those things made my head itchy. I am just missing my hair. Makes me sad. Thanks in advance.
Shannon

I am way over a year past my last chemo treatment. I am past my herceptin. I have had my hair done and dyed. So Here is my pity party question.........Am I the ony one who HATES their hair!!!!!!!
I am very aware that I am very fortunate that this is all I have to worry about after all I have had to deal with.

What's wrong with your hair that you hate it? Did you hate it before or has it changed?

It is too short ( I think I have all the chemo curl cut off). I feel un-girly. It needs stuff in it or it is frizzy and wont lay down.
And the lady who cut, dyed, and styled it did a great job but she costs too much. My mom said it was a great time to try to grow it out because it is hat season.

Emma I now wear my hair short… actually have my stylist buzz of the sides and back. Yeah that short. I find I won't go out in public without earrings unless I'm going to the gym. I love it short but it can be a little butch if you don't accessorize
But it was even shorter when it was growing in. Those who didn't know I was diagnosed just thought I went short: linky
It took about a 1.5 years for the real hair to come back. It was poofy and didn't have the shine that I had… now it's all shiny and the correct texture. Not sure if my real color came back. I dyed it the day after I went topless at 13 weeks PFC.

Emma,
I hate my hair too. I finished chemo 22 months ago and it is not the same
The texture is very thin and it's too thin on top for my liking. I have a good length
so I just wear it in a ponytail every day. I miss the old me.

I hate mine too...it's growing in OK (I decided to leave it gray) but it's so fine and thanks to Arimidex...thinning. I always coloured it before BC and it was fairly thick. I don't want to colour it again just to get texture...sux to be me.

I would love to beable to put it in a pony tail! I cut off the chemo curl because you could see where it changed from chemo curl to more normal hair, it isn't like it was though.
I thought I could deal with a short hairdo but it just makes me aggravated.
I wear small hoops that my husband has given me over the years. I have 4 in each ear. I see the stylist in a week. Maybe she will have an idea. She is a very kind woman who understood my anxiety when I came in before.
And thank you for the responses! You gals helped!
