Hair Hair Hair - Another question

BCinAK - "Am I ready to be gray?" is what I ask myself every time I look in the mirror & seeing photos still shocks me LOL! Still, I'm holding out until the new year to decide if I want to start colouring again - I want to be SURE.
Thanks, herstrong - my first real cut went really well yesterday. Just over 22 wks, I was hesitant, but only had about 3/8" at the most taken off in the wooliest parts, especially at the back & it did make a big difference. But seeing those "silver sable" bits on the floor still had me in awe. Yeah, silver sable sounds way better than "gray", huh?!(that 2nd pic was taken in the mirror so my crown appears on opposite side)
Even having my wee sideburns shaped gave them more definition!
I figure I'm good for the next 3 months or so as long as I get hubby to buzz my nape before it gets knarly again. I'm really glad I bit the bullet & had it done - it actually made me feel a lot more "dressy" at the wedding last night when it was the first time for most to see me since I gave up my wig...

Very Nice CAHY.. your hair looks so thick and full

Thank you! My stylist kept exclaiming how thick & soft it feels - it's pretty much baby "virgin" hair, so...she actually just fluffed with her fingers during blowdrying (took less than 2 min) & I think I can handle that on my own.0
-
CAYH...looks great...I am envious....my only similarity is the colour, which I happen to be OK with. You are lucky you aren't taking Arimidex or you might have thinning....makes me furious!

Cayh, Your hair looks great. Was your hair curly before chemo ? My hair was poker straight before chemo and is finally starting to grow a little, looks like it is coming in sort of curly .

No long term drug therapy for us triple negatives, schatzi - that's a bonus in my mind! And the colour is growing on me.
Eileen - not even as a toddler did I ever have curls, or waves for that matter. I'm just enjoying the ride...are you looking forward to curls (no matter how temporary) at last too?0 -
CAYH.. Yes I am hoping that my hair will have some curl, would be nice to just shampoo and blow dry without needing a curling iron. Again I love your hair..

Possibly my question is addressed somewhere among all these posts but I didn't read them all. Not even sure I'm in the right thread but I'll throw it out here and someone should be able to help me. I finished chemo/radiation/herceptin in 2006. My eyelashes and eyebrows grew back horribly. Eyelashes are very thin and sparse, however, mascara helps that. The problem.....MY EYEBROWS. Almost non-existant. The one eyebrow is kind of complete, but very thin and sparse. My left eyebrow is half there and half gone. It is so bizarre. I've tried the powder eyebrow liner but I guess I don't do it well, cause it looks horrible. I really don't know what to do. I don't care if I have full looking/ perfect eyebrows but what I have (or should I say, don't have) looks awful. Help!!!!!!!!!!!! Please.

Eileenohio I think you will be happy when your hair gets a little longer. My hair was also very straight now I have a soft wave which I hope never goes away. I am 1 year 8 months since my last treatment. In the beginning it was curly and had a mind of its own. My hair is shoulder lenght now and I do not even blow dry it but it looks like I do. It has a lot of body. I do not know if it will go back to the way it was or not. I am playing it safe so I am not cutting my hair ever again.
Happy with the hair, the eyebrows not so much. They are thinner than before. I have to use the pencil to fill them.

Marejo - I had a problem applying the eyebrow powder. I started using a longer handled brush to apply it with rather than the short brush that comes with the powder and that made a big difference. They look way better now!

marejo..same problem here...one side is thinner than before but the other side is only 1/3 of a brow...I pencil it because I am hopeless with the powder...my lashes are there but extremely short...I am almost 10 months PFC.

marejo - it sounds extreme, but you can have your brows tattoo'd. It would seem that after this long, their growth would have rebounded if they were going to. Hopefully, someone with the same experience will chime in to give advice. There are also brow stencil kits you can buy (got one from Avon, I think) that help you to see the shape outlines so much easier to fill in with pencil. Have you ever gone to a "Look Good, Feel Better" class or even consult a beautician? They could instruct you on how easiest to fill them in to make it more manageable.
I really feel for you - it's been more distressful losing my lashes/brows than my hair. At 22 wks, they're thinning again & it is distressing, but I chide myself for "sweating the small stuff". I'm so sorry this has happened to you! Congratulations on being NED 7 years, though!

Has anyone had their eyelashes not come back in? I have been PFC since 7/23 and lost by lashes within 3 weeks of that and still no growth! I'm skeered!! LOL Hair on my head is enough to cover all the white of my scalp.
My eyebrows have always been thin and sparse so not really any change in those. Still have as much as I did before chemo!
Keep trying to think positive though!!

mt4ever - mine took about 8 weeks to poke thru....very frustrating...but you are probably going to see them in the very near future. Get a magnifying mirror - mine were coming in and the only way I saw them at first was with a magnifying mirror...I could see little black dots. When they came back they were thicker than ever. That mirror was pretty handy for the eyebrow growth too. Now I just need that damn mirror since chemo and tamoxifen have wrecked my eyes...lol Hang in there...it's about to happen0

I thought I was in the clear about losing lots of lashes but now am starting to. I am 7 weeks PFC and they are coming out like crazy. Also have lost lots of my eyebrows in the past couple of weeks. But, if I use a magnifying mirror can see lots of new eyebrow hairs coming in. I would have freaked out about losing the brows and lashes so long after chemo but remember reading other posts about it. Seems so cruel though doesn't it? About the time the fatigue starts to get better, we have more hair loss!
My taxotears are better though! I am getting some hair growth also but it is slow. I am taking a supplement from Costo (Hair, skin, and nails) to help encourage the growth.
Anyone with tips about how to further encourage lash regrowth? I am afraid it is going to take a long time. I am about ready to ditch the mascara for awhile, wondering if that would help?

Hikergal.......I too thought I was in the clear with losing my lashes and brows. About 8 weeks PFC they started to fall out rapidly. I lost most of my lashes and my brows thinned considerably. The good news is that they do grow back fairly quickly. I continued to use mascara because I felt if they were going to fall out, I couldn't prevent it. I might as well look half decent in the process. I bought a thicker eyeliner, too. The lashes are coming back thicker but aren't quite my pre fallout length yet and the brows are almost normal again. I know alot of gals are using Latisse but I personally couldn't afford it. I'm now 12 weeks PFC.

I used latisse when lashes started coming back, could not afford it, but decided it was my treat to myself.. My lashes still fell out again at 9 PFC,, They are back now, brows are still sparse

My hair is starting to feel like wire and sticks out and still very short Not to happy but just thinking of the day I can use a brush again....

hikergal Dont worry about the lashes... Mine came is pretty fast when they started, I was able to put mascara on them and they looked more full... never totally lost my brows.. Last chemo was back in November...
ang7894: My hair was wacked when it first started coming back in November, was nice though, soft and shiny.. Not is is about 3 or 4 inches long and baby soft but i look like a giant Qtip haha.. and its CURLY curly.....
Dont fret ladies all does come back and fairly quickly.....
Hugs to all

mt4ever I lost the lashes/brows a couple of weeks after last Taxotere. I was having taxotears pretty bad. Once they stopped (about 2 months out) I started using Latisse. At that point there were 7 lashes on one eye and 10 on the other. These were upper. There were zero lower. After using Latisse for 2 months they started coming in very good. They continue to get thicker and longer. If you use Latisse, don't use their brushes. They suck up the solution. I used some disposable eyeliner brushes I got on eBay and one bottle has lasted almost 3 months instead of 1 month.
