noonrider, henna? Wow! How long will it stay?
Love the hairstyle mikesgirl. You look radiant! So cute, pretty, feminine, pretty eyes etc
We will all get there some way. I'm white and curly, wish I had dark straight hair. Don't we all want what we don't have. I have about 1 1/2" but it's curly so it just lays in curls against my head with side wings, kind of feels like a poodle. But it's hair so I'm thankful.
See background..Tried canning tomatoes for the first time today. What a tedious process, mostly with peeling the tomatoes. But here's my hair, curls and wings. 4 months 1wk PFC. Usually wear earrings everyday but had MRI today so no jewelry and didn't felt like putting on for picture. Great earrings really look great with short hair. Due to holiday will have to wait until tues for MRI results as doc that reads breast MRI is not in till tues...ugh

Bosumblues - sorry to hear about what's happened to your hair while on Arimidex. I've been on it for 9 months and I can see my scalp more because the hair is longer but it's because the hair is longer - I'm not having hair loss. I'm very gentle with my hair and I am not coloring it or using a blow drier or flat iron. My hair is very soft and healthy. It looks better than before I had cancer. Be sure and read the recent studies on this website regarding the value of being on Arimidex. The studies clearly show that women who stay on it are less likely to have the cancer return.

Lisa - I had the side wings for a while :-) It's certainly an adventure everyday seeing how the hair will behave. I just got my copy of "The Curly Girl Handbook" today - it's looks GREAT! Thanks for recommending it. You are looking good!

Lisa- love your attitude! Thanks for always being uplifting. I forgot all about the "wings." It's all coming back to me now that my hair is growing again. It goes through some awesome and not so awesome stages but it is hair! 8)

Lisa, I agree with kite I love your attitude! Those of us going through treatment now read the earlier threads to get in the know and you have definitely stuck in my mind because of your positivity! It is very inspirational. Hope your scan is good news...the waiting is awful. I'm on here waiting for my hair

5 months does seem like forever in the beginning, but before you knowit, time seems to fly by. MOMMOM, I did get the white fuzz. I never shaved it like some people do. I was going to hold on to any and ALL the hair that I grew. Now the white stuff looks like highlights. It's pretty neat.

Men's Rogain is 5%, women's is 2%. I was IN the study to test the 5% on women. The reason it did NOT get FDA approval for women is because women had no more growth with the 2% than they did with 5% so there was no reason to approve the 5% for women. However, women need to use the 2% twice a day, but they can get the same growth with once a day application with men's 5%. That means you could use it just once…at night…instead of morning and night, avoiding the greasy hair thing.

Hi Elizabeth,
I had my first infusion on 17 days ago, and I'm also Her2+ so we may be on similar drugs. I was hoping for a gradual loss that maybe happened over a period of 1-2 months, but unfortunately i've lost more than half my hair over the past 4 days. It really started on day 13 for me, and has kept getting worse. I had a lot of hair so except for my hairline around my face I still have coverage but at this speed it will be mostly gone by Monday. I have not lost in patches really but thinning overall of about 60% so far. I too am wondering how this will continue to unfold, will I be bald in a few days or is there a point where this shedding will stop. Really annoying

I must be going crazy. I swear I saw a post here from an Elizabeth asking about hair loss after first infusion, but after i replied above, I don't see that post anymore and a note that it was deleted, so i just have this random post about hair loss ) anyways, i will leave it there in case i was not imagining it.

windgirl I don't know what your infusion was, but after about 14 or 15 days and my second infusion for A/C, my hair was coming out in clumps. I had a friend of mine buzz my head. I just didn't want to see me 1/2 bald.

BosomBlues I was in the hair loss study because I have had female pattern baldness since I was in my early 20's.

Windgirl - Most of my hair fell out around day 17. It fell out just like your hair is falling out. Thankfully, after about 3-4 days it stopped falling out and I still had some bangs along my hairline and quite a bit on the lower back, it was extremely thin on top. I didn't shave my head like many women do and the remaining hair stayed until almost 2 months after my last chemo dose. The old hair started falling out as the new hair came in. I'm so glad I didn't shave my hair off. It was always comforting to reach up and feel hair. Plus, I looked more normal wearing caps because my bangs showed in the front and some hair showed in the back just below the cap.

BosumBlues - I'd be quite upset with my oncologist if he had the same attitude as yours. I'd be looking for another oncologist since this is the doctor who I may have for the rest of my life. I've been thinking the thinning of your hair since you mentioned it the other day. I work with a woman who is post menopausal and she's never had cancer, chemo, or been on hormonal therapy and her hair is extremely thin all over. There are other reasons women have hair thinning and your doctor should be ruling those out if he hasn't already. For example thyroid problems can cause hair loss.

I had my last chemo at the end of January, and my hair has been growing back at a consistent rate, it's about three or so inches long. My hair used to be very dark brown, with maybe a few greys in the front....now it is grey and white all over the front and sides, brown in the back. Very curly and soft. The color is very depressing....while I am very happy and relieved it is growing back, when I look in the mirror, it's not me. I'm in my forties, and the color ages me a lot. My husband thinks I'm crazy because I still wear my wig to work every day - I had shoulder length hair before, and when I wear the wig, I feel so much better about myself.
So, I have two questions.... Wearing the wig hasn't seemed to have any effect on the new hair growing, am I right on thinking there's no harm in wearing it? The other question is about color.... I feel like I wouldn't mind the short hair as much if it was at least my own normal color. Will coloring it damage the hair? I've been told using a " natural" hair color isn't going to cover all, this grey and white. If I use normal hair dye, will it slow down my hair regrowth?
It's like the hair growing in at the back of my head is my old color - will the old color ever come back all over?

My new hair person, who specializes in hair loss, both organic and chemically induced, says its usually safe to color after 6 months PFC.

Yesterday I ordered a bottle of Hair Surge and the associated conditioner. Here's to hoping my hair surges!

noonrider I've been using just the shampoo for about 10 days now and I see little hairs everywhere. I couldn't wait until I finished the Taxol - Friday is IT.

Pamela I colored my hair 13 weeks PFC. I went topless and the next day had it colored professionally. My onc said I could color it anytime I liked.
If you haven't seen my hair transition linky take a look. 10th photo from the right. Funny but the sides and back of my hair is still that short (by choice).

No, not me lol! but this is a model from the chico's catalog that my mom had at home. I saw this models hair and immediately thought, looks like a cool stylish "post chemo" hair style. I had to take it home with me. Of course she's gorgeous but this is the look I'd love, and I think some of you already have it. Of course I'm white/gray and curly but this is the shape I want, I think I'm almost there. At this stage we need a really good hairdresser that understands chemo hair and coloring options and cut and style for this short hair. But look at this great pixie hairstyle.
PamelaC, I'd love to see a picture. If you feel strongly about not liking the color then maybe it's time to think of coloring, but go gentle and subtle or or sometimes the more you look at yourself the more you'll get used to it. Have you gotten a trim yet? Maybe it's time to shape it up. That may help. Positive feedback from others certainly helps, it did for me because I did not have a concept of what I really looked like. And your old color may return. I've heard to wait a year, then you'll know what you'll have. Any veterans want to chime in? I'm just over 4 months PFC and I'm much grayer than before but I'm kind of liking it. I used to color it before, med to light brown. Here's a recent pic of me and my sisters and mom. I've gotten so many compliments this weekend on my hair. "Sophisticated", "stylish", and love getting new big earrings. I actually really like how I look in this picture. As you can see my sisters have the naturally curly hair too...not my mom though. My hair was kind of long like my sisters. I hope I can continue to tame it as it grows in but I'll get a trim as soon as it gets unruly and not neat but will keep it very short I think.

Hi all, I have never posted but have been reading everyone's post since Oct. when I was diagnosed. I lost my hair two weeks after my first chemo treatment in Dec. My hair started growing back about 6 weeks after my last treatment in Feb. It came back the very same color which is auburn and I have very little gray. I am very thankful to have my hair back but the texture is wild. I had very straight hair before and now it is course and wavy in the back and soft, cotton like and straighter on top. Just wondered if anyone else had had this and how did you deal with it. If you know of a good product I could use please let me know.

I just wanted to mention to everyone that I colored my hair at four months. My oncologist and breast surgeon said it was okay. My hairdresser stressed that I should only use a semi-permanent color so I did. I was salt and pepper and it was really making me feel old. I colored it a light brown which came out with some red in it but I have to tell you, I felt so much better with color in my hair. I have about two inches of hair, no curl. Just wanted to put that out there

Hi Noonrider,
I saw your comment on ordering Hair Surge. I had never heard of it. I went on Amazon and saw a lot of positive reviews and then I read the not so
positive ones. It also mentioned the good reviews were fake???? What's your take on this and why did you choose
this product. I'm on Arimidex and having a bit of a rough time.
Thanks

liexie2002 Kite is the poster that has been using Hair Surge and saw great results. I have my last Taxol this Friday and have been using it for 10+ days now. I see small white hairs growing. I can't say for sure it is the shampoo, but it is encouraging. There are always going to be bad reviews, it isn't going to work for probably most people depending on why they have hair issues. You can always tell the fake reviews because they are over the top positive.
I have Nioxin too for when my hair gets more filled in. I didn't want to use it at this stage.

I bought the Hair Surge only after hearing about it here. With any product on the market there will be both good and bad reviews. You have to take them with a grain of salt. THis stuff isn't any more expensive than my other shampoo so its certainly not going to hurt me to try it out.

Lexie I had little to now hair growth 3 months PFC. The first time in 2012 I had no trouble growing my hair back. It just came in like crazy. So I got discouraged and bought Hair Surge after seeing the reviews and reading that it used caffeine as a ingredient. None of the others seemed to have that. Anyways wether it decided to take off on its own or it's from the Hair Surge this is my hair after 6 wks.
My pics from before Hair Surge aren't on my phone anymore but trust me when I say there was nothing. 9 weeks after not taking chemo and no hair. Now look! Like I said wether it was the shampoo or not it is worth it to me.
Hope that helps!
