I used Latisse for 9 months through two kinds of chemo - one drop per day on lashes & brows.  I never lost all my lashes or brows, although they did become thinner for awhile.  I stopped a couple of weeks after last chemo and have noticed only continued growth & no more hair loss.  I agree w/Island Mom.  Check w/your ophthalmologist regarding potential side effects for your specific body chemistry.

3 months PFC and starting to look like the 'old' Jeanette everyday!  Latisse helped me tremendously with the re-growth....I have no idea what will happen when I run out!

latisse girls, which doc gave you the prescript? And thanks for the responses. Wish my lashes were longer. Long lashes with short pixie hair, I'm thinking twiggy.

My hair is getting tighter curls and puffy. Oh well, still better than bald. You do look  adorable, jb.

I just started using Latisse a week ago, one drop every day on both eyes and brows. I already see faster growth. I just had a BMX with recon, so I asked my plastic surgeon for the script. I was able to buy it right then through his office which was nice.

Minoxodil takes 3-6 months to start. Also it is best to put in on wet hair. This way your hair doesn't absorb it and more goes to your scalp. Granted you don't wet your head before bed but keep this in mind after you wash your hair, but before you dry.

yes, yes, yes, problems with my contacts now. My eyes were like the saraha desert during chemo (as well as my skin) and without lashes or eyebrows glasses just looked better and then when I did put them in I couldn't see as well as before. I wear bifocal contacts and they at least did the trick for the most part prior, but now my close up vision is worse with the contacts in and I'd have to wear reading glasses most of yhe time over the contacts so I figure what's the point. I wear my contacts only now if I want to wear my good polarized sunglasses (btw polarized sunglasses are great for light sun sensitive eyes) like when walking or running or at the beach. So chemo seems to have made my vision worse...thanks chemo :-(

I'd like to try latisse for lashes and brows. I see a PA at the dermatologists office in a month for my yearly skin check. (I'm telling you, there better not be anything suspicious! There hasn't been in the past, better be nothing now as well!) Saw her just before my dx last year. Maybe she can prescribe it if I decide

Bosum - I didn't have to continue the Latisse to keep the growth.  Brows were getting downright bushy & new brows & lashes stayed in when I quit.

Lisa - I got the RX from my MO but made an appointment to talk to my ophthalmologist before I bought it.  Both were on board.  Since derm docs are supposedly in charge of "skin, hair, & nails", they might be aware of it from previous cancer patients.  And yup - chemo has made my vision worse too.

here's a link I found to cute chic short hairstyles, to keep us motivated toward the future. I love most of these but there's nothing for curly hair. May have to continue with my cute poodle look. Some of you already have these hairstyles if your a while out from chemo. Also shows how short hair can be adorable, sexy, chic, sophisticated, modern, edgy.

I've been using that hair surge - not sure if it is helping or not but I do have quite a lot of short fuzzies 10 days PFC. I even have some longer white hairs. It's all white when I was dark brown mostly. I saw the video posted in the thread. That young girl also had a nice dark shadow of hair two or three weeks PFC. I should take pictures but the fuzzies are very apparent yet!

One more...you can see my "old hair" in the photo in the background and that was relatively short for me.

Are you using Nioxin shampoo? I read where some women are saying Nioxin had changed their formula and say it's not as good?? I still

wanted to try it. I'm taking Biotin too. Glad to hear your finding something that helps you :)

I was told by the dermatologist to use it on wet hair so your hair didn't absorb it. You want it to get to  your scalp.

Hi everyone, I have a question. I am down to the very very short buzz length. How do I get rid of this hair. It is not really attached anymore, pulls out extremely easily, no pain etc. but just touching it doesn't work. I've actually used a lint roller which worked fairly well. But of course there are thousands of them.. The little hairs are sharp and stick to my head coverings and wigs. I've been afraid to use anything like Nair....afraid my head my break out. I'm ready for completely bald.

    Anyone with advice? Thanks

Beatmon - shave it off... shaving cream and a razor -like shaving your legs... you'll be glad you did it - I had my husband shave my head. .. Don't use Nair - I think that product is too harsh.

BeatMom - I used a lint roller 3x a day bending over the bathtub.  I wore a liner under my wig and a soft sleeping cap at night - that way I just had to use the lint roller on the caps.  Wish i could remember how long this phase lasted until hair was gone.  Maybe someone else is closer to the event.

I talked to my MO about the hair loss SE with arimidex and she explained that they all have a chance of hair loss. Bosum, what are you at a slight  risk for using the tamoxifen? Luckily we only take these for 5 years.

HomeMom the studies have shown that the AIs work a bit better than Tamoxifen… and some oncs are actually favoring shutting down the ovaries with drugs so women who haven't gone menopause can take it.

But even my onc who seems to hate Tamoxifen states it's better than nothing.

I have an appt to check my hormones on the 25th since I am very borderline. I'm not sure what they are going to prescribe, but I had not had a period since June 2013 and started Chemo May 30th which put me in menopause. We will see, but I am assuming I will be given arimidex.  I have a friend who has been on Tamoxifen for 7 years.

HomeMom my last period was 2 weeks before chemo. My onc put me on Anastrozole and tested my hormones for 5 months to be sure I stayed in chemopause. I turned 50 two weeks PFC.

Lexie-- hi! Thanks for thinking of me. I'm doing okay. Been in a lot of pain. I'm being impatient about my hair growth as usual. As soon as I have some good length I'm dying a color I've never done before.. Like a deep reddish color.

Kite My wig is a reddish color, I am usually a dark brown but have been coloring it with lots of blonde highlights. I've had more complements on the wig then my own hair. I might have to rethink my color whenever I have hair again.

Hi everyone! I finished my chemo three weeks ago and have a fine white fuzz all over my head. Yeah! Thanks for sharing the Nalie video Deborahann. I loved it and am now following her on Twitter. I found her to be very captivating and her blog is a great "go to" for information about BC. Iago and HomeMom...how do they test your hormones? I see my MO to discuss hormone therapy next week. Love learning from all of you! Best wishes.

Rogaine should go on a dry, clean scalp.

I was the one who posted about being in the study. The makers of Rogaine published the study results at the time (this was 15 or so years ago) but not all doctors read entire study results. There is a REASON there is no 5% Rogaine on the market for women.

homemom- would you post a pic of the wig? That might be a good idea since my hair is so slow. I actually had my hair stylist use a "3" and shave off the extra weird fuzzy hair that came in first. It barely looks different. Just even. I can't believe it's taking this long to grow! I know it's the Kadcyla. I didn't have this issue first time around.

    tucker3 -

It's a blood test that will give 3 results: your estradiol level, your FSH, and your LH.

Mine was actually checked prior to chemo due to a study. Although I was 48 - I had not experienced any perimenopause symptoms and my estradiol level was completely normal. I had a normal period the week before chemo and it has never returned - 2 years 7 months. My levels were tested at 2 years with my Estradiol level in a post-menopausal range but my FSH & LH numbers are still at levels that are not menopausal. We did not test them for my last appointment in June but I have an order for them in October. In the meantime I have continued on Tamoxifen.

    Hope this helps.

A detour from the hair topic :-)

    Congrats on completing Chemo!
