anyone have latisse turn light blue eyes darker? I read that could be a side effect. I have light eyes and wouldn't want that to happen. I'm not using latisse but thinking of asking my doc next month.

Lisa - I read that about Latisse  too, I have dark brown eyes but I will not be using anything on my eyelashes or brows. My eyelashes are currently growing back (4 wks PFC) and my eyebrows are falling out - meh, it is what it is. I just want some head hair back, I am over the wig thing - it's a pain in the ass to deal with and my 1/4 inch of fur makes my head itch, especially with the wig!

My hair is pure grey, underneath the color.  I am wondering if it will come back grey or darker or a mixture?  Only day 7 post chemo (first one of four), just waiting for it to come out.

    Lisa,

I will not use anything on my lashes as I developed clogged tear ducts 3 weeks PFC from Taxol.  Although I had a clogged tear duct in one eye two years ago, so my ophthalmologist said I may have been pre-disposed to it and the Taxol put me over the edge.  Had two very unpleasant experiences at the ophthalmologist plastic surgeon where he gouged around my ducts and was able to drain one tear duct.  He had me come back last week when the other one was drained.  But first, he put several shots of lidocaine in my eyelid.  Yowser!!  Hurt like a son-of-a-gun!!  So far, my eyes are still bloodshot and still tearing.  I follow up in six weeks, but already know I will not have the operation to have stents put in my eyes, if that's what he recommends.  I'm hoping it will go away on its own.  Ugh.

That said, I have a friend who used Latisse on her lids and although she had long lashes (almost too long really), she developed darkening of the skin under her eyes.  Not good.  I wouldn't hesitate to use it on my brows though.  I've used Rapid Lash (much less expensive than Latisse) on my brows for years.  I lost my brows and lashes about 3 weeks PFC.  The brows have come back beautifully except for the ends - lashes not so much.  I've noticed that most of my lashes are white (like the white fuzz hair I was getting), but the roots of a few are dark.  Yay!  Someone posted earlier that she noticed some of her whitish peach fuzz hair had dark roots and I've noticed the same thing.  Very encouraging!

Lisa:  I read about the color change SE.  I have light green eyes and had no change of color using Latisse for 10 months on lashes & brows.

MomMom - so sorry about the tear duct problem.  My ophthalmologist warned me about taxo-tears & possible stents for clogged ducts but luckily I avoided that.

Bosom - I know you must be frustrated.  I'm not a candidate for hormone treatment but you're in my thoughts.

thanks girls for the feedback.  It's probably hormone related. Makes me mad. I loved my hair after it grew back.  I kind of wonder if it's related to the chemo,too...???

Regarding lashes... Mine still fall out 4 years after chemo.  I just noticed some short ones on my bottom lashes this morning. I think that is related to the chemo.

A friend's hair was thinning.  Her doctor ordered tests: thyroid, autoimmune, vitamin deficiency, etc.  Everything was within normal range.   She had a biopsy of her scalp done.  In her case the hair follicles had been replaced with miniaturized follicles, her doctor said that means the hair loss is hereditary.  I think the biopsy was done in the doctors office.  She was in her sixties and never had cancer.

She now uses Monoxidil with good results.

How long before getting your first post-chemo haircut?  I'm 5 months PFC, and hair could use some shaping, though anxious about losing any length. How long did you wait?

I got my hair cut soon after it started to come in.. it was more about shaping it .. I wanted it to grow in nicely shaped.. my hairdresser only charged me a few dollars each time I went in.. and I did keep it short but it looked good -at least I thought it did.

Yep, I got my hair cut about 10 weeks PFC....I had a few random curls that were sticking out here and there!   I also needed to get rid of the Carol Brady in the back!

Lisa I have the smartbrow - I liked it when I had brows. They were a little sparse and it did a great job of filling it in because the brush is very thin. I can't use it now because my brows are just the top line of hair and I'm thinking I might lose it all soon.

My eyebrows and eyelashes are still not to the volume they used to be.  I use a brow pencil by Anastasia, you can get it at Sephora.  It stays put and my brows look perfect.  As a matter of fact I used it when I had no brows and you couldn't tell.  Great product.  As for eyelashes, I'm excited that I just found a new product last week.  It's called younique and it's not in the stores, you had to buy from a distributor.  My hairdresser was selling them, that's how I heard about it.   It's amazing!  My eyelashes look like I've had lash extensions when I haven't.

As for hair I'm finally back to my natural hair color!  With a few low/highlights of course.   My avatar pic is me, 14 months PFC after 2 trims.  I'm finally feeling pretty good about my bangs.  It took awhile and went through some awkward stages but think I'm getting close to being content with it.

Here is my non scientific take on minoxidil. If you use it for what it is intended, thinning hair, it will take 3-6mos to work and if you stop your hair will thin again. If you use it after chemo to help your already growing hair (if there are no underlying hair loss issues) then it will work sooner and when you stop your hair will not fall out again (that part is true). My hair is coming in uneven, I have a receding hairline and male pattern baldness thing goin on. I used minoxidil on those areas and I really think it helps. I actually see myself again when I look in the mirror!!

Here are my pics, my last chemo was 7/18, I started the minoxidil on 9/4.

Thanks ladies. I'm at my treatment center today for rads, herceptin and PT. I always take my hat off during rads and decided to keep it off while I'm here. A big step for me and I figured here is the best place to start. Well there was just a fire alarm and the building had to be evacuated and I forgot to put my hat on. So there I am outside "topless" for the first time! It felt great!!!!! It actually took me a few minutes to realize.

    Oooh!

I've had an invitation from the Today show to appear with Joan Lunden on Oct 1 !!!  Not sure if it will work out, but I sure hope it does!  We connected through my Sassy Head and I think they were disappointed I'm not bald. If they will allow me to plug my product, I will shave my precious hair!

    Stay tuned....

jb, wow, wow, wow! Yes! Did you just see Joan Lunden on the cover of people wigless? She looks awesome. I do t think you should have to shave your head though. It shows the progression from bald to short hair. You have lots of pictures to show of when you were bald as well as others that have used sassy head. Maybe Joan wants to use it and show it off. She can model it for you. Amazing! Congrats. We will all set our dvr's to record it. Let us know how this progresses. They have to use you!

jbokland, how exciting. I love all of you December ladies you are inspirational (I stalked you before my chemo, and now on HAIR!) what a fun group and I am not surprised one bit that sassy has piqued interest.

4 weeks PFC and not much on the head, but the dark is starting to show which helps. Trying to get just the right back lighting to see if the wispy white is growing has gotten old :)

Bow1965 - you are like a week ahead of me. Today I am 3 weeks PFC and that is just what I do! I try to get just the right amount of back lighting with a dark back ground to see my little white fuzzies!!  Some of them are kind of long. Too funny. I had my first glass of wine tonight at a restaurant.  It was delish, but now I am sleepy. Not used to even on glass!
