Some of my very straight hairs are starting to bend. Could this be the beginning of curls? We shall see!
0 -
ya noonrider! Maybe curls!
Mikesgirl, amazing color, I don't see any gray hair. My eyebrows have gotten thinner past few weeks and some eyelashes shedding. I think it's the normal growth cycle though. Cool day here in CNY and my head was cool even with the hair. Realized that my hair is still thin although the curls are good at masking the thinness.

coco - welcome. When you get a chance, fill in the information on your profile. Depending on the type of chemo you're getting, the odds for hair loss are different.

So nervous tonight. Tomorrow is my BMX with reconstruction. This nervousness may cause my new hair to fall out! LOL

Mikesgirl, you look great. I hope to be at that length by six months.
Noonrider, I will be thinking of you during your surgery. You made it through chemo, and you'll make it through this. I think the hardest part of the surgery for me was knowing a part of me would be gone. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes, that is the part I'm having a hard time with. That part of me will be gone. That I am cutting off my breasts. WTH???? I'm upset about the fact I will never look the same again. What about sex??? I know you all know what I mean. Many of you have had to go through the same process and probably had the same thoughts. I'll get through it like the thousands of women before me have. I just can't believe its me that has to do it.

Noonrider - I'll be thinking of you today and hope you have an easy surgery. So many conflicting emotions. Let us know when you can.

noonrider- you never know how strong you are until strong is your only choice. Best wishes for the surgery! You will be fine and once you get past those first few uncomfortable days you will focus on the 'new you'. We are all here for you to work through the process together.

Noonrider - I'm with ya! Take a deep breath and embrace the new normal, they will look like boobies again - Pump them puppies up!
Mikesgirl - I'm soooo jealous. I want to fast forward those 5 months - but that would mean missing the Holidays. You look great!!
I have a PT appt this morning down town, the first of many in the next couple weeks - the 26th I have three in the morning! Gotta get this done. Everyone enjoy your weekend!

Noonrider good luck to you, hope all goes well. Gotta go to the ONC this am and get some blood work done. I'm going to ask him to set up an appt to get my port removed. I can hardly wait. Everyone else have a good weekend!!!0 -
Noonrider - your new hair is looking good. I don't think I'll ever get over my thoughts "I can't believe it's me going through this"... It's been over a year since surgery and all has gone amazingly well. Thankfully, I have a very kind, supportive husband, excellent doctors, and supportive friends. I hope and pray your surgery and recovery goes well.
Mikesgirl17 - your hair is looking great!
By looking at all the different pictures of hair growing back it's obvious not every one gets "chemo white"
and "chemo curls" - we are all different. A friend of mine who is a year
older than me (59yrs) has dark brown straight hair coming in whereas
mine is much different. Here I am 10 months PFC with hair as long as it
was before starting chemo. You can't tell in the picture, but the back is getting long enough that I can make a little bun and pin it up. I'd been wanting a new hair style for a very
long time and God gave me one!0 -
I recently watched this video titled " Hairgrowth Post-Chemotherapy" and thought it was good. I really appreciate women who do this to encourage us!

deb - I love your look!

Thank you girls. I just wanted to give an example of almost 6 months growth. My husband is in love with this style. It's funny.....I always hated my hair and complained about it constantly. I think God was sick of hearing me complain, so he decided I needed a change:)
Noonrider, I have been thinking about you a lot. You are in my prayers. You can do this. You are doing this to save your life. I hope you You are healing well. Have a great day ladies!

Noonrider, - wishing you an easy time and speedy recovery! I, too, felt much the same, knowing that part of me would be gone, but we will have a 'new normal' one day soon!
Looking at those of you with hair growing back and hoping that i will look as good!
I have one more taxol, on 9/22, if my counts are ok!
Sending BE WELL wishes to all!

Mikesgirl17 The antiperspirant theory is just that and hasn't been proven. The American Cancer Society, which hates anything and everything that can cause cancer (you can't be a smoker and work for them) does not support this based on current research. Even if parabens are the issue it may not be coming from antiperspirant but from other sources, like food preservatives.

I am not obsessing about it, but I think people should be aware what parabens are. Even if thy don't cause cancer, if I can buy a diferent brand that is healthier, that's what I'm going to do.

I agree with you both but we can't control everything. We just do the best we can. What drives me crazy is folks going nuts about this stuff then not exercising regularly or at least trying to get to a healthy weight. We know that for sure both help reduce recurrence (and other health benefits).

Hi Kite, I've been thinking about you since you sent me this message. I will keep you in my prayers. I have really
appreciated the posts from you. All this pretty much sucks doesn't it??? Hope your having a great Saturday and hope
to keep in touch with ya.

Unless you grow it yourself, and prepare it yourself, there are no guarantees even with "organic' foods. So much of what we eat here in the US is not allowed in other countries. The brightly colored sugar cereals? No way. Bread that lasts a week? Nope. Europe is far ahead of the US when it comes to eating well.

wow, I will bring it back to hair topics...lol. Those using latisse, do you have to use it forever? If not, what about when you stop, will they slow down growing and when they fall out come in short and thin again. I'm 5 mo PFC and my lashes and brows are thinning again. I hate having to fill in brows so much again. I know it's the growth cycle, they all started growing at the same time, now that it's probably time to "shed" as normally happens, and it's happening at the same time. My lashes have always been pretty short and thin and thinner since starting menopause (peri menopause before BC). So the long length you get with latisse, does it last. And then what's in it that's making the hair grow long and thicker, could that be harmful too?

Did anyone try rogain for hair growth ??
0 -
Lisa, I use Latisse in a very low dose. I use it twice or once per week and only one drop for both eyes and eyebrows. My lashes are longer than they were prior, but not as long as I have seen on ladies that use it everyday. When I apply mascara they are very noticeable. It seems to work even better on the brows. I have stopped using on the brows for now, because they were too hairy. They used to be thin.
If I have not applied Latisse for over one week, I notice some lashes falling, not many but maybe a couple. If you stop the long lashes will fall and the ones that replace them will be shorter and not as thick, so it goes back to normal.
Since it is a prescription drug It is always best to check with your doctor. I get my eyes checked every 6-months because I take another drug that can cause eye problems, so I am not too worried. In any case, taking a reduce dosage reduces the chances of side effects and saves money. I use one bottle per year.

I am using Latisse we every day. I'm on about week 5. My lashes are longer than they were pre chemo, but I would not say I have more of them. MY lashes were pretty sparse pre chemo.
I am using Rogain. (please read back in the thread for more details.) I had female pattern baldness pre chemo. The Rogaine is definitely making a difference as my hair is coming back in. I'm on week 10 of Rogaine.
