No longer a lurker! I am officially 2 hours PFC and I am ready to grow some hair lol. Final chemo today.

I did pop over here back in January for some encouragement when the hair jumped ship and the end of chemo seemed so far away.

    Any shampoo suggestions?

Love the avatar Angtee! Congrats on finishing chemo!!

Baby shampoo seems to be the favorite for when hair is first growing in. It is FUN to use shampoo again. :)

Angtee15, I made a bad mistake and went out and got the loveliest smelling shampoo. Well, my scalp rebelled quite a lot and I ended up with folliculitis that I am still healing up (I should stop scratching!) so, that's my advice: GO MILD. Baby shampoo should do the trick.

congrats Angtee! Welcome to the hair board! I used baby Shampoo on my scalp during treatment. After I was done I started using Brian Josephs shampoo.

Thanks ladies! Baby shampoo it is. I was using it up until my hair disappeared. I am hoping for some decent cover in time to ditch the wig when the real heat and humidity hits the Midwest. Let's see what happens!

I used Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil...Baby shampoo made my scalp itch terribly.

    hi everyone,

Thank you for all the inspiring posts and pics. I am 6 weeks pfc/2.5 weeks post BMX with darn expanders and just willing some part of me to be normal again! My hair seems to be growing so slowly despite my pleading, biotin and minoxidil. I have never been so impatient!

I second that, Paulinek! I am also six weeks PFC and am just now seeing little fuzzies all over my head - silver, just like they were when they left me! I am not looking forward to wearing a wig all summer. Hot flashes and summer humidity and wigs don't mix well...

    Shocked

Thanks for the encouragement, BosomBlues! I am five and a half months pfc, and have crazy chemo curls above my forehead, and at the back of my head. Glad to know that they will become more sane over time! Now I just want my hair to be more than two inches long. Living for the day that I can just pull it all back into a ponytail, so not cutting anything until absolutely necessary.

I am almost 6 months PFC. I will be keeping my hair in a pixie cut for awhile. I can't stand trying to deal with the crazy curl. I have got it cut and colored twice. I don't look cancery anymore. I have run into people who didn't know I had cancer and they commented on how great my hair was. So I will be keeping it short. Loving how fast it is to do everyday. It takes me longer to fill my eyebrows in than it does to do my hair. I do miss my long hair and when I look at pictures of myself I hardly recognize me....that was the old me. Long hair and long boobs!!! The new me is short hair and very perky foobs. No need for a bra or hairspray!

Gotta look at the bright side

Five and a half months pfc, and still happily wearing a wig. In an effort to get my hair to look more like Barbara Corcoran's and less like Kramer's I had hair experiment day. The hair at the top of my forehead is very curly and crazy. And annoyingly, shorter than the hair on the crown of my head.

First, Clairol Natural Instincts hair color instead of my usual Age Defy, which was not particularly effective in covering the gray. I will, however, be excited to see roots because they mean growth!

Next, followed Sloan's program from her January post for using multicultural hair products. Applied a ton of styling mousse, wrapped with a wig cap, and let dry. It works!

Finally, used the 3/4" flat iron that I bought at Target. This helped, though I do need a bit more length to keep from burning my fingers.

    Very cute, Peachy!

I'm just over 4 weeks PFC and have stubble that is growing out my regular brown. Well, I say "growing" but that's still a little optimistic. For one thing I never was completely smooth bald so I'm hoping this is totally new growth. Made me nervous, but my husband shaved off the long white hairs that kept growing during chemo. He assures me what's there now is "really" growing but I'm not comfortable just yet!

I love reading everyone's posts on their progress, and tips and tricks--it's so encouraging.

Does anyone know when these chemo curls go away? I've been without my wig for 16 months and it is getting longer, but the curls are really hard to manage. Between the hot flashes and night sweats making my hair more curly and frizzy, I dont know what to do. I will take anyones advce that i can get.

    Doknow what to do.

I just shaved off all my white chemo fuzz, and this is what I'm left with...not too bad. I actually had to shave my legs this weekend! And I'm starting to see eyebrows...and they itch like crazy! I'm 8 weeks PFC, so my hair seems to be coming in pretty fast! I'm starting to see my actual hair color starting to come in too! Have a great week everyone!

Eight months PFC. I've always had straight fine hair. I am loving the body I have with my chemo curls! Had my fourth haircut today, and after some razor shaping and gel, I walked out with a style that looked longer than when I went in!

iGay1ord, that looks about right for eight weeks! Bet you see some good progress in the next couple of weeks.

TheyCallMeCommodorable, you look fantastic! Your hair seems admirably straight.

6.5,weeks off chemo and staring to see a hairline. I have a lot more on the sides and back and what seems like a quarter sized bald spot right in front :(

Is anyone else using biotin or other methods to encourage faster growth? Any success

Peachy2- loved the admirably straight! I'm the former Commodore of my Yacht Club, the genesis of my screen name and only aspire to Admiral! I've worked with my hairdresser to get the right layering to tame the curls. Don't be afraid to get a haircut. Shaping does wonders!

Lori, tjh, MDW, catladay, Dee etal.. could also have written much the same! There are times it still feels like yesterday, I relive the moments I found out, and wasn't shocked b/c that's .. my life. Of when I told people - and had to be the strong one. I hear people speak of how proud they are about how I've done and am almost insulted. I've always been strong, dealt w/ things pretty much on my own, no news to me I've handled this as well as I have. So while I'm grateful the worst is over, signs are hopeful ... the realist in me doesn't want to take anything for granted yet (or ever!).

anyway.. also trying the biotin and nail strengtheners, the skin treatments as plenty of post BC treatment left to go. glad I stumbled across this thread, makes me feel almost normal-ish. LOVE the hair pics, reassuring to see that my very grey, very slloooooww growing hair will get there someday. And that until then, the short do is cute enough .. or so people tell me. ;-) FWIW.

looking great ladies! I'm 10 weeks PFC and I am just the opposite. I seem to have more on top than the sides and back. The growth has seemed to slow a bit. I'm taking a hair, skin and nails vitamin that has biotin in it. Just getting impatient now that weather is warming. imageimage

I'm actually still doing chemo and my hair is starting to come back. I just had my 8th treatment out of 12 Taxols and this is how my hair looks now.

    imagehi ladies!

Thought i'd post a pic of me 14 weeks PFC. I have gotten a ton of compliments on the color and the shortness - everyone says to never let it get long that i really suit the super short pixie. I think i'll keep the gray too, nice way to transition from coloring blonde the past 20 years - no hassle and if I rock it, then YES!

All of you ladies look so beautiful. It's so amazing to see how resilient the human body is and how it can bounce back from what we have been through!
