Moth - will they let you use an electric razor with a clipper attachment? They had me buy an electric razor to shave any armpit or leg hair that stuck around. My cancer center has a wig shop in it and they shave your head for free. I would think that they'd know how careful they need to be.

I retained some of my hair while on Taxol, but once I started the A/C, it was immediately gone, head to toe.

Was encouraged by everyone on this page and wanted to share my hair 19 weeks PFC. Had my first hair and color cut last week. She cut off all the baby bird hair and it feels healthy. Taxotere didn't rob me of my hair. Hope this encourages others.image

dianarose, I am new to post on this forum. I finished chemo Oct 2017. Hair didn't start to come back till Mar 2018. It was the worst part of cancer so far, as my hair was waist length flaxen blonde. As of today, I have about 5 inches....but very little in front. It's frustrating. I bought clip on bangs from a kiosk in the mall. They work well. Better than I thought. I'm going to have another made with my old ponytail, which I saved. I've just got wispy fuzz in front. I could be jack Nicholson twin sister! Any of you l a dies in a similar spot? Would love to get your input.

dawn Ann- do you remember what sight you bought the bangs from? I always had bangs and they just aren’t growing. Plus as it grows it gets curlier so just clings to my head. Five inches is great! Mine is getting to about one inch. Kinky curly but super soft

It was just a kiosk in a mall. The lady I bought the bangs from said she made it herself. I paid $25. I have seen similar on amazon. I never had bangs, but it's better than what I'm sporting in front right now!

Dianarose, It's too bad you can't try on first. Btw.. it was March 2017 when my hair started to come back. I typed in wrong years. Whoops...chemo brain strikes again! The little clips are quite secure, but if a breeze comes, your whole hairpiece Flys up.

Dawn - welcome to the forum! I have the same trouble with my hair. I used to have very thick healthy hair and now I have all these little bald spots. I saw my oncology rehab doc a couple weeks ago and she said that her patients have had success with Kerantique. We'll see how that goes.

One thing she told me was that I will have some hair grow back even while on the AI. Something about baby hair falling out and normal hair growing back. I wasn't following what she was saying. I finished chemo in April 2015, and she said those drugs are still in my body. I always suspected that, but my MO (the ahole), said they were out of my body 2 months after treatment ended. I thought, There is no f---ing way that months of poison (literally!) is going to be gone that quickly. He told me NOTHING about the collateral damage either.r

    That's a whole other rant.....Devil

Catlady44, I have the most caring oncologist you can imagine. He was the one you told me I may still be fighting side effects of the chemo for 3 years. Yikes. However, I was wondering what the other ladies in my situation were doing about the hair situation. Your diagnosis is almost identical to mine, but I had 4 nodes removed, and stage 3a. Chemo started june 2016, ended oct 2016. Fun summer. I could rant for years about certain people and health care providers as well. Have you tried hair extensions? I hear you need 3 inches, and I don't have that in front.

When did your eyebrows start growing back?

Mine started to thin around the beginning of the year and I have been completely eyebrowless since February.

Finished chemo about 2 weeks ago

Deen, it takes so freaking long, it made me nuts BUT, this too shall pass. My last chemo was 8/21 and I felt OK leaving the house "uncovered" by Thanksgiving. In hindsight, I may have been "uncovered " too soon. The worst is past and can will only get better fro here! xo

Dawn Ann - I'vd been using Keranique and I think it's getting a little better. It's hard to tell really. It's taken about 6 months to start improving which is pretty standard. I haven't tried extensions because I'm afraid it will pull my hair out. I already have a short hairstyle and figured they wouldn't work for me, but I would love to have longer hair. I've really considered getting a wig.

Jennifer522 - I can't remember exactly how long it took for my eyebrows to grow back, but I don't think it was more than a few months. They never completely grew back though. They're patchy in spots, and some hairs now stick straight out or are growing in areas that eyebrows shouldn't be (like my forehead). I just draw them on. Clinique makes a really good eyebrow pencil.

I kept mine through treatment, and they fell out 8 weeks after my last treatment. They came back within a couple of weeks. Lashes fell out 10 weeks after chemo and are coming back. They are growing much slower than my brows. I was excited to keep them through treatment, and shocked when they fell out almost 3 months later.

    Hi OrangeDaisy,

I finished my last chemo at the end of Feb 2018 but fuzz had already started to grow and I kept SOME of my brows and lashes. Now, April, I am losing what is left of my brows but I see that new hairs are beginning to show for both brows and lashes. I also see that there is stubble still left on my head when I trimmed it after it started falling out from chemo. My question: Does my old hair/stubble/brow/lash need to fall out first before the new hair will grow in its place? Thanks!!

Just posted about the same thing the Hormonal Therapy board. I finished chemo about 6 weeks ago and just this week my eyebrows started falling out. I lost my head hair almost immediately after starting TC chemo but held on the the eyebrows and lashes. Now I notice some very slight fuzz on my head by no eyebrows!!! Is this common? Will my eyebrows grow back. I can't bear to look at myself without them. Thanks for any advice or info you can give me. I never once looked "sick" all through chemo (of course always had a hat or wig on) but now without eyebrows its awful, especially since I'm officially "done" with the chemo part.

mudd: Yes, it's common. Your eyebrows will grow back and you may lose them again. Losing them again isn't unusual.

I lost about 50% of my brows during chemo. After chemo, I lost most of them. Then they mostly grew back (about 80%) and I lost most of them again. Now I'm 14 months PFC and my brows are about 80%. I used to have fairly thick brows so I notice the difference. I doubt my brows will grow back to 100%, but I guess I have to be happy with 80%.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Somehow it makes me feel less alone. Right now I’m penciling in my brow and they look better each time. Unfortunately, I’m all thumbs when I try to apply the lashes so I’m going to need more practice. I’m in sales so I’m trying to anticipate what I’ll need to be doing when I head back to work in a month. This was a whirl wind. Diagnosed in Mid November, chemo until the end of February, double mastectomy by late March, and headed back to work in mid May. We women need to not underestimate our strength and resilience. Hair does not define who we are, it’s just the icing on the cake. Thank you for this support and this forum.

I was sprouting head hair and lost all of my eyelashes and eyebrows during taxol and post taxol. When the lashes and brows grew in for me it was super fast... Honestly, I don't know if it was coincidence, but as soon as I applied castor oil to the eyebrow area, they began to sprout. Having no eyelashes is super tough to apply falsies with, so I would just line my eyelid with liner and friends remarked they didn't notice they were missing. Maybe they were just being kind, I will have to ask them now that I have a full set of lashes too.

I need help with something, I have asked this on boards before, but no one responded. My eyelashes have grown in like all wild..straight, sticking down, and i think some are irritating my eyes. I went ophthalmologist and he claim there is nothing wrong with my eyes or lashes but I am unable to wear my contacts. From an aesthetic standpoint just curling my lashes with an eyelash curler doesn't work either? Any suggestions?

I think it is super common to lose eye lashes and brows post taxol regime, hang in there ladies... I was super despondent during this loss but as quickly as they went... they seemed to return for me!

imageThe two pictures on the left are 9 months after my last chemo treatment without any hair growth supplements (July 2017). The pictures on the right were taken this week (April 2018) and are 9 months after the July pics on the left when I started taking my hair supplements daily... Wish I'd known about them sooner!

CBK, I have read that dry eyes can cause lashes to grow like this so perhaps add an eye lubricating drop to your regimen? Hopefully it's just the first growth and after a while they soften up.

Also, maybe check out some of the tips here

I finished chemo 12/21/17. I thought I looked pretty good throughout, but once I was done taxol I looked horrible. Puffy face and all lashes and eyebrows fell out. Truly like a slap in the face. It did take a good six weeks for my eyebrows to get back to normal. The tips of some of my eyelashes are still white, yes I had many white lashes come in, and they grow every which way!!

Good information.  My eye Dr. claims my eyes aren't dry... but hey, I'm not buying that assessment either! Happy

Retzie, the falling out and beginning of regrowth of lashes and brows were almost simultaneous with me. My brows are sticking out and my lashes are still shorter than they were, but thick. I didn’t realize how many fell out during chemo until I saw the new growth
