We just returned home from Julian..a small town in the mountains just northeast of San Diego...we went from sea level up to a mile in about 45 minutes..it was very , very windy and cool up there...red flag for wild fires...we saw all the burned out areas from the last two fire seasons..Julian is known around here for its apples because down here it is too warm to grow them, but they do get snow up there..so we had to bring a fresh apple pie and cider home with us...

MountainSunrise.jpg Mountain Sunrise image by VyrtualVampyre

I think alot about what it would be like to live in the mountains.  Of course I imagine the sunrise and sunsets as just being so beautiful.

Seems as though once you are surrounded by their beauty, you can let your mind go free.  Away from all the fears and concerns.  Taking a walk and just enjoying life each day.  For one short moment forgetting about breast cancer and world affairs.  Just walking peacefully and reminiscing.

Im wishing everyone a wonderful day.  May your minds drift away, and may you find peace within yourselves.

Apple pie - did someone mention apple pie?  I will have to go get some today.

LOL, I have all kinds of folks there, both my parents born and raised North Carolinians . They met at Appalachian State in the 50's.

Lisa ~ Could it be here? I took these on a trip last year to Mount Pilot. It was Andy days.

Taken from my sons porch....he lives at the lake and in the mountain on 5 acres. I love going over to his home. Just a few minutes from my home. This mountain in the picture is almost in my back yard. If I could fly I could be there in about 3 minutes.

Hi Jule, happy to see ya on the mountain.

Lisa ~ Just went over Lake Norman this past week end. Were on the way to

    http://www.lazy5ranch.com/

It is a drive through zoo.

We got there to late, so we will have to do it at another time. I was so disappointed. We were down for a baby shower , and everything lasted to long to get a good start. And DH had to work on Sunday,

Lisa here is the pitcher plant I was talking about.

    Photobucket

It catches flies too. You have to keep them wet and the pitchers have to have water in them. I just know this plant will be dead before Thanksgiving.

If you are near WV , Bridge day is this week end. It is fantastic. The view is unbelievable. And there is a museum with a slide show telling all about the bridge. Wonderful for kids too!

Crafts galore.....And the smell of a fall day is so invigorating. Makes you feel so alive. And also very small, it is a grand place to be.

I have never seen a plant like that before, it I could find one that catches mosquitos I would buy at least 100 of them for my porch.

Glad everyone is enjoying the mountain thread.

I'm not sure HOW I found this thread-hooray for accidents & ineptitude! LOL!

Ausable Chasm??? When I was a little girl & visited my Grandmother she used to talk about going there to play bingo! & I think I have been to that falls Lisa posted----is it near Portand--multanomah?

I LOVE the mountains, but I prefer the greener ones than the ones I just came from out west! I'll have to paw thru my pix for some to post.

---thanx for the mt. retreat spar!
