Haven't been on for a while, lots going on at work and home. Just wanted to catch up and check in, two days past the one month mark. It is still difficult, but not nearly as bad as week one.
lisamarie - Don't make yourself feel worse, if there is one thing I have learned, it's that unless the time is right, you will not be able to do it. I hope that this is my "right time". But if it turns out it's not, then I'll try again later. My doctor told me that I was my own worst enemy when I told her what a failure I felt like because I was unable to stop smoking after numerous attempts. Lots and lots of people don't succeed their first time, and lots take many tries. I know I am one of the latter. But I will keep trying until I finally make it.
my3sunz - Welcome to the most supportive group of women I have ever known. Congratulations on two weeks!

Way to go my3sunz42! It's all uphill from here. Today is my smokefree anniversary and all good!

babs, 1 month, 2 days, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! You quietly go about the business of being a non-smoker. All of us rejoice in your efforts, you just check in now and then and WOW us with your number of days, except you are counting in months now. Have you had the supreme joy of telling a dr. you are a non-smoker, or checking off that box on a form, it is thrilling.

JudiH, Happy non-smoking anniversary, which one is it?
0 -
Karen, it's a big one for me. Seventeen months today - goes with the day I got the news of my surgery date which was 2 days later. Funny, today I thought of having one - weird. I only thinking of having it but don't think about going to buy them. Hope it keeps that way. Smokes were my stress reliever but I heard someone say we just made that up!

Galsal, you too quietly go about the business of being a non-smoker. You simultaneously encourage those around you. You all are a support thread within a support thread, it all makes you stronger. Thank you for joining us on this thread. It is one that speaks of love, encouragement and empathy, a lot of threads cannot make the same claim.

Judi - weird, when I quit for almost 2 years in the early 80s, it was my DH who told me to go ahead and have a smoke one night when we were out with friends. I tried to tell him I couldn't have "just one", but he had never smoked & didn't get it. For quite some time I only smoked in the garage. It was funny trying to get the kitchen phone cord to stretch into the garage so i could smoke & talk. Needless to say, I went back full time & smoked 1-2 packs a day for another 25+ years (total of over 45 years smoking). I finally quit in 2007.
Congrats to all who have reached a milestone - and YES even one week is a real milestone - evey one day !!!
For those of you who may be smoking now, I'll echo everyone else. Don't beat up on yourselves. Everything in good time. Gather your strength and start again when you're ready.

JudiH - Happy non smoking anniversary. Same question as Karen - which one is this?
0 -
Thanks for the chuckle MinusTwo. Yes, I remember those days. I would quit and people would say "just have one". Needless to say, I was just like you. In fact, we probably all just like that. I smoked 1 to 1 1/2 packs a year for probably 37 and after that, probably 1/2 pack. But boy, put me at a party or with other smokers, and I would buy "3 to 4 packs" to be on the safe side. Good for you quitting when you did, and succeeding. I think there is just a time when we say enough. As I said, I had "laser surgery" and walked out, I could have had a smoke. Now, even though I may want one, I think "how many have I've not smoked". Funny, in my mind it's a trillion. Babshrink, congrats to you on your success! As all have said, we all can be our worst enemy but we aren't. We were just "smokers" who are trying to deal with an addiction that is hard to get the "monkey off of our back"!

Jo, I'm motoring along ... 17 months and 1 day. I can't wait to see the look on my RO's face when I tell her I'm 22 months smoke free. She was my inspiration and I just didn't want to let her down. It's been a struggle at times but then I remember the struggle I went through facing "C"!

Here's to Jo getting rid of that evil, evil drain today, and here's to not smoking. I'm thinking of getting my hair cut short (not boy short yet, not quite chemo time yet because of my drain issue) but I'm going to cut it in stages, to maintain control. The fact that I'm doing that makes me want a smoke SO badly. If this feeling doesn't go away, I'll cancel the hair appointment. The drain issue will not beat me, and neither will the hair. For today, I will not smoke.0
-
Fierro6 - Here's hoping you get rid of your dangling friend real soon so you can move on to the next step. Cutting the hair in stages is a good way to deal with the hair issue. And you are right, For today, we will not smoke.

Dear Jo, what time is your appt.?
0 -
Karen - My appt is at 3:00 CDT - that would be 4:00 for you. Will give an update when I get back.

Fierro6, good for you. Taking positive steps is one way we can control things. Cutting your hair in stages is good because then you can decide if you like it or not. Personally, I think you will look great - your pic shows that you are beautiful and you need to feel that way inside and outside. Go for it. Jo, good luck on your appointment today - it will be gone. What freedom, eh?

OK, Jo, we'll all be checking in on you, I hope that first word is YIPPEE. JudiH, I grew up in Buffalo N.Y. As a teenager my girlfriends and I would cross over into Canada on our bikes via the Peace Bridge. It was about a twenty minute ride to get to your beautiful beaches and quarries. Got so used to the "eh" at the end of the sentence, it always sounded so cool. Also half of our Sabre team was from Canada at that time, in the days before helmets and face guards, alot of lost teeth. The French Connection, boy could they play hockey, they were a joy to watch! Is Mansfield anywhere near the bridges into N.Y.?
0 -
Karen, no Mansfield is about one hour north of Toronto. It on the way to our beautiful Wagasa Beach and Collingwood areas. To get to the Peace Bridge would take me probably 2 hours. When I lived in Toronto it was only 1 hour away. I love being able to cross into the States. Keeping telling my dh we have to go! Hard to believe that a line makes two countries. Hockey is such a beloved sport of both countries but a lot of kids are playing soccer here. I don't know if it is cheaper but the kids love it.
Where is Batavia?
0 -
Well ladies - I leave in an hour and a half for my appt. I am so ready to lose this thing.
0 -
Ok Jo, this is like a synchronized mission, with time of departure and time of arrival sans drain we hope. JudiH, Batavia is mid point on a line drawn from Buffalo to Rochester, so we don't usually get any of that lake effect snow. It is smaller than both cities, low crime rate, really good schools and a great place to raise children. Buffalo, Batavia and Rochester are hockey crazed cities, we love our Sabres, they are easier to love than the Bills. The Bills have not had a winning season in a long time. I do remember the heady days of our 4 trips to the Super Bowl and our loss in each. Someday maybe.

Come on, Jo. Get back in here sans drain. I'm pinning all my hopes on you!
(no pressure)
LOL

Fierro, maybe just a tad bit of pressure LOL

Karen, sounds like a great place to live. It's like where I live - up in the country, not a lot of people, and crime is low. Wow, Superbowl. Did you every get to one .... my dh would love to go to a superbowl.
Jo, hope the news is great!

JudiH, watched them all on T.V., can still see our winning field goal go wide right, wouldn't want to be Scott Norwood, then or now. Bill's fans have loong memories.

Great News! The last drain is FINALLY out. What a good feeling. It is not hurt at all but did get stuck and I did feel a bit of pressure. I go back in two weeks and move on to the next step. I can not wait to sleep in my bed tonight. Haven't done that in 5 weeks.
Thanks for all the support - you ladies are the best!!!
