Hi Jo, thanks for checking on me, we do worry about each other don't we.  I have been posting on the American Idol thread as this was the finals week and my boy won, I was so thrilled.  Also, my DD got hurt at work, she does faux finishing painting, for ex. making a wall look like stucco or linen or striping it, she also refinishes hard wood floors.  She was using a chemical stripper and water to dissolve that strong glue they use when they tile.  She had on rubber gloves, long jeans, goggles and a long sleeve shirt and rubber boots.  She was scrapping at it when she did the pull back stroke it splashed her jeans and saturated them.  She has second degree burns on her right leg from slightly above her knee to the top of the boots and first degree on her left leg right on her knee.  She would not go to the ER, but a friend who is a nurse came over and told her to wash it 3x a day and brought a burn creme to her, with gauze to wrap it.  It is a little bit better, I make her show it to me each day so I can see what it looks like and will haul her to the doctor's if I have to.  I do not know where she got her stubbornness, it is like trying to move a mule!!  I have been reading the thread each day, I will do better, sounds like everyone is doing a good job of it. hugs to all, Karen

Fierro, hope the draining amount is on the decrease and your Doctor will release you to go back to work.  I know the waiting is torture and if it is a desk job, it doesn't seem like it could be hazardous to you.  You're doing a good job in the face of adversity of not smoking, YAY for you, you are a warrior!  Karen

Karen - Yes, we do tend to notice when someone is absent for a period of time.  When that happens, I always hope that person(s) are doing well and just getting on with their lives. I know I don't spend as much time on BCO as I once did.  It used to drive my DH crazy.  He would always see me on the computer and neglecting other things.

Ouch!  It sounds like it really hurt and must be painful.  Hope she takes care of it properly so she does not have to deal with an infection.

As for the question where does she get her stubborness.... I'm thinking it's not just stubborness, but a don't worry about me, I'll do just fine and I'm guessing she got that streak from you... lol!!!

I was with you over on the Idol thread... Watched it faithfully every week and then.... last night.... family drama intervened and I MISSED IT!!!! My boy won and I missed it!!!! Oh well... will need to see if I can see it on my computer....

Jo, I wish you could have been with me at PS today.  They asked that I only empty first thing yesterday morning, and again first thing this morning, so when I got to the appointment, it would be a true, no question, 24 hour total.  It was 50cc.  Dead on.  I went to my 1:00 appointment, armed with this number (the same it's been for 3 weeks.)

I don the gown and sit there, with Jaxson the Jerk beside me, and my PS walked in WITH the nurse.  Usually, it's nurse for a while and then doc.  Anyway, he is amazed at how great his work looks (heh heh) and can't figure out why my output is so high.  He pushes around and thinks maybe he feels a bit of fluid under the skin, and then (after I lie down, sit up, lie down, sit up) he decides he doesn't.  Here is the part I wish you could have seen:

He stripped/milked the drain, and it instantly filled again behind him.  There was no clot or obstruction, I'm just putting out that much fluid.  Within 90 seconds, the tube was full again.  If you could have seen his face.  He looked at his nurse and asked, "Did you see that how fast that filled?"  LOL  Told you so!

Anyway, new compression wrap.  Tighter (but not uncomfortable) with a wad of gauze in the armpit.  I'll call them Tuesday with numbers (hopefully lower.)  I just wish you could have been there to see his face when he saw what I've been seeing for weeks.  I have to say it one more time, "Told Ya So!"

Have a great weekend without cravings, everyone.  It was hard to navigate traffic to my appointment today and realize that EVERYONE in the world, other than me, smokes in their cars.  When I smoked, I was the only one in the world who did.  Go figure.

Hi ladies.  Ouch Karen!  My dh is a Toronto firefighter and I asked him about this.  He said that something must have reacted with the chemical stripper to cause the burns.  Yikes, poor girl. I sure hope it doesn't leave a scar.  I'm using a product from Kosmea that is made in Australia.  I got it at the organic store.  It's certified rosehip oil and I use it on my surgery scar.  I'm pretty impressed.  Anyways, they also have a product called skin clinic rescue balm that is for all skin emergencies, naturally heals, repairs, soothes, and protects skin.  I used it on what I would call a blister before but now is skin scraped raw - healing nicely.  Jo, hope all is well and you are enjoying your sleeps.  Fierro6, hope today is better then yesterday.  I hear that all of you and celebrating a holiday this weekend.  Enjoy your long weekend.  I'm jealous!

Yeah Fierro, you kept telling him, he is not the only PS who thinks he is god-like.  Glad the compression wrap is not uncomfortable, it sounds like your numbers are going to start coming down, maybe next week will be the last week, I hope so.  JudiH, my dad was a Buffalo fireman till they made him retire, I always thought my dad was just such a hero.  Whenever we went out of town, we would always make a stop at the firehouse in whatever city we were in.  I can remember stopping at a Toronto firehouse with him where we would go in - he would introduce himself and then we'd go back to the kitchen and sit and they'd exchange war stories.  My DD is using Arnica from a health food store on the minor burns and neosporin on the rest, it looks better today.  I went on-line and found Silverdine which is really expensive but is supposed to work miracles on burns to prevent scarring.  Ordered it last night, hope it will be here tomorrow as there is no mail service till Tuesday for the holiday.  Thanks for running it by your dad.  Karen  PS. did I want a cigarette after I saw that burn, but just for the day, I did not smoke.

Fierro - I would have loved to been there with you.  We could have said it in unison.  TOLD YA SO!!!!!  What part of that don't you understand??? The tube should be almost empty when you strip it - that is when you know it is slowing down.  Of course, they are going to admire their work - they have to feed their egos somehow.  Although, I do have to admit that mine it not really like that.  He is obsessing over a "tight" spot I have between the top of the patch and my nipple.  He so wants to fix that.  He is so personable.  If he does have a big ego, I don't know where he leaves it.  Anyway, hope the compression works and those numbers come down by Tues.  Just remember, don't lay down at all - try to sleep as upright as you can.    Hopefully we can have a party and Jaxson the Jerk (love that by the way) will be a thing of the past.  Need to see that "magic" number of 30 ccs in 24 hours.  Please let me know what happens on Tues.

    Karen,

Silvadene Creme was what they gave me when Aquaphor was no longer cutting it during rads... Seemed to work pretty well but, since it contains Sulpha and I have, in the past had a hives reaction to oral Sulpha drugs I had to be a bit careful... They had me apply it to my inner wrist for a couple days to watch for a reaction before applying it to my already, oh so sore, breast!

Sulpha allergies are fairly common so just wanted to mention it in case DD is sensitive to it....

    Hope she heals up quick!

Thanks Seaside, I'll have DD use some on her wrist as a test spot before applying it to her leg.  Boy - it was a hot one today, had to use up 6 chicken breasts that a friend of DD had defrosted, she had 6 also, did it baked in the oven, have a crock pot but had loaned it to a friend.  The whole weekend is supposed to be hot, no more oven cooking for me! Time to collect my crock pot.  We'll be grilling on Sunday, my stepchildren are coming over, what a blessing to have them back in my life.  Update on DD's Art Show, the storeowner called to say one more painting and 2 more of those children's book night lights sold, so she did real well.  Discovered a new flavor gum for those quitters who use gum instead, it is the Extra brand, root beer float flavored.  Sugar free also.

    Karen,

Yay for DD on the delayed sales! I think she has a bit more time for her art to be on display! Here's hoping for more sales! Crossing everthing crossable!!

Grilling with family this weekend sounds great! Not sure what we're doing yet... Sure it will involve something cooked outside but who will be here depends on what the kids' plans are...

If they're going to be here with friends then probably burgers and dogs with some sides... If it's DH and I we may spring for a steak!

Hope your weekend is a good one!!!

Karen, my dh does the same thing.  If he is anywhere near a firehall then he likes to go in and sit with the boys.  It's a brother thing.  I learn so much from you ladies ... Silvadene cream ... never heard of it.  When I go to the States, I'll have to keep my eyes open for it.  Yes ladies, very warm ... loving it.  This is definitely BBQ weather.  Enjoy!

Jo, although he was admiring his work, he wasn't arrogant about it.  I probably made it sound too much like he was.  I'm glad he's proud of his work.  If he didn't care, what would I end up looking like?  heh heh

I had a pouty afternoon and told my husband that I TRUlY needed a smoke...or maybe just a drag.   That's all.  Just a drag.  He said, "You had that appointment today and didn't get your nap.  Why don't you lie down for a bit and I'll clean up for our company."  I slept over an hour and felt so much better.

For today, I did NOT smoke!  He's strong for me, when my strength is gone.  It's been 7 weeks yesterday.  I'm so glad he didn't let me ruin it.

Fiero - I am so glad mine is picky too about his work.  Yay! Your hubby sensed you needed a time out and sent you for a nap instead of a smoke.  Good for him.  At least he is supporting your efforts.  It is such a struggle for me some days.  My hubby still smokes and I work with 2 smokers - now how hard is that to stay smoke free????  I hate to admit it but I am glad I at least have my e-cig or I would be right back at smoking.   At the same time, I hate it that I am not strong enough to be without it.

Big congrats on 7 weeks.  We should celebrate everyday we don't smoke.

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day Weekend.

Congrats Jo and Fierro6.  I agree it is hard to be around smokers sometimes.  Like you Fierro6, I think if I just have a drag but I know this is not an option.  You see I have the option of smoking or not smoking.  With cancer, I don't have that option.  You either get it or you don't. Girls, keep positive and change whatever you are doing to push the thoughts away.  Jo, I feel for you.  A colleage offered to have a friend of his give me some Chinese cigarette and I had to tell him to "back off".  I knew if I jumped at this offer, I would be right back where I was 17 months ago.  No ladies, we have to stay strong.  Look at Tazzy from B.C. who is  5 years smoke free.  I'm sure she has some stories for us about how hard it is.  Ladies, enjoy your Memorial Day!

Jo, I am thankful that I am not around anyone (full time) who smokes.  The fact that you need an e-cig does not make you weak.  I am proud of how well you do being around a smoker full time.  I've gained 8 pounds and  hope it's from being home from work...not from quitting smoking.  We'll find out next week when I go back to work.  ::giggle::

    Pass the Pringles, please.

Fierro - Sadly, I gained about 20 lbs and I really did need a few of those.  I had lost a lot of weight - some on purpose.  I do feel better with the extra weight.  BTW, I am 5'7" and weigh 156 lbs.  At 136 I did look a bit like death warmed over.

Do you have a extra can of Pringles?????  LOL

Fierro - you are so strong, and having a supportive DH really helps.  Jo I can only admire your will power being around smokers - yikes.   I think I would've wanted to grab my hubbies ciggies and smash them to pieces had he smoked when I was trying to quit (he actually quit a month before me - pleased he didn't do that to my smokes)

Even now, there are times when I walk past smokers and am envious - it smells so good and they look so relaxed and happy puffing away.  Then there are times it smells absoutely disgusting and I cant get away from it quick enough.

There were times when we were with friends who smoked and we were camping - oh that was hard.  Having a drink and NOT smoking - I mean they go together so well.   The more beers I consumed, the more I thought to myself "its only one weekend, I can stop again on Monday".   So whenever those evil thoughts popped into my head I would take myself off to wobble round the campground just to take my mind off it.

On the plus sides... apart from the health benefits - which as a smoker I never even thought about that.... !!  My skin felt so cleaner... have you ladies noticed that?   I felt as though I had been exfoiliated from head to toe.   The extra money. Not having to stand out in the rain/wind/snow trying to find shelter for a smoke.

Yes I put on about 20 pounds (5ft 5ins and 145 1bs when I quit - now I am at 160 lbs) but figured that was still better than smoking... plus I could exercise to lose that couldn't I - at my age it dont come off that easy.   But hey rather a few extra pounds...!

Fierro - good luck with the hair cut.

Hugs to all and enjoy your day.

Tazzy, Jo and Fierro6 I hear you about the weight gain.  I'm  5'4" and was 112 lbs when I had my surgery.  Didn't lose much when I was diagnosed -  was 116 lbs prior to my diagnoses.  Now, with the meds and quitting smoking, I've gained 20 lbs.  I had upped my exercise and didn't even lose a smidgen - imagine that.  Now, I changed things around and my following the Canada Health Food Guide.  In a few days I've noticed a difference. Biggest thing was to eat breakfast - have found this hard to do but I'm trying.  Feel better about myself.  Tazzy, you are right about your skin looking different. I'm 56 and way less wrinkles.  Yay!  You are also right about drinking/smoking, etc.  I think you have to change your environment somewhat and your thinking somewhat what that moment strikes you to have a smoke.  I think just like that ... it's only a drag, a smoke, a weekend.

Hope you enjoy your haircut Fierro 6 if you got one.  I did today and it feels great!

JudiH, my one slip with smoking happened when there was liquor involved.  It is such an ingrained habit, when you smoke, you drink.  I had to do what you suggested - change my environment, did not go out with family or friends to a bar, if liquor was involved, at least till I had a few months of non-smoking under my belt.

Fierro - Best of luck getting the hair cut.  I desperately need one but my stylist is out of town right now.

I did not think I could drink and not smoke.  I found I can drink and not have a cig if everyone in the group is not smoking.   That is no always going to happen but like it was suggested, I can change my environment.

Hope everyone is having a good long weekend.
