Judi - I live 50 miles from Brownsville so pretty close.  You will have to give me a call when you get here.  I am a manager of a winter texan park so that is a busy time for me but maybe we can hook up for a cup of coffee somewhere in between me and Brownsville.  That would be exciting.  I love the chance to meet sistas.  Let me know the dates you will be here.

Thanks so much Bama, supposed to get the 70 mph wind and 6 inches of rain from tomorrow night to Tuesday afternoon.  We have all our hatches battened, so hope we don't lose power, as it is in the 40's during the day and 30's at night.  Karen

Thanks Bamba.  We are supposed to get it here in Ontario but I didn't think it would be bad but you never know.  Today, we had snowflakes and it was cold.  Hard to believe 6 weeks ago it was warm and sunny!  Karen, stay safe.

Karen, would love to meet up with you.  I've leaving for Brownsville on the 19th of December and returning to Canada on the 28th.  I don't quite know where my sister lives but when she first arrived in Texas 12 years ago, she too had an RV.  They stayed in Crooked Tree RV trailer site which is now been torn down and a lovely Wal-mart erected - just what we all need, another Wal-mart!  I know she is still in that area .... do you know that area?

Judi - It is me that is in deep South Texas.  I am not familiar with Brownsville but if you do get the name of the park where your sister is staying, I'm sure I can find it.

Karen - Stay safe.  Hope you get the storm too bad.

Thanks Jo, it is supposed to hit tomorrow night and continue to Tuesday early afternoon with winds gusting to 70 and 6 inches of rain, pray we do not lose power as it is really cold and damp already.  I pray for those on the coast as they will really get hit hard.  Karen

To all, when you see Buffalo on the weather maps for this huge storm, I am 45 minutes to the east.  Now they are saying it will hit Buffalo and surrounding counties on Tues night and all day Wed.  Hope it is being hyped a little.

Karen - Me too!  I know what it is like to ride out a hurricane.  Have not done it with cold weather to boot.  Bad enough without air conditioning and lots of humidity.

Jo, sorry for the typo.  I really have to hit preview before I submit.  My deepest apologies.  Hope I can still buy you a coffee if we meet up?????

Karen, I hope it is hype but I was watching the news tonight and I don't know.  I told my dh that it kinda reminds me of Hurricane Hazel - Toronto got hit in 1954.  I hope it fizzles out when it hits land and no one is hurt!

Judi - Of course we can still have coffee.  For a while, I was sending the wrong emails to two different sistas.  I would get them mixed up.  They kept telling me - no worries.  I finally got my act together and don't do that anymore.  I do double check the address line before I hit the send button.

Did anyone's fingernails start popping off when on Tamoxifen? I used to be so lucky with these nice long fingernails that grew with no trying on my part. I have 3 left. They just snap. Nothing to do with smoking I know. I need to count up time here. I may be getting close to 5 months smoke free. I think I made it 6 months once! Amazing! Hope you all are hanging in there!

hope you all in the path of horrible Sandy are & stay safe!!!

would someone either post here OR pm me on a good site to purchase e-cigs? I just can't figure out which/where/what to get. The only other place is down in Bellingham (canada doesn't allow selling of nictotine ecigs) I'd like to get the proper kind. the ones from the tabacco store are like $8 lots of puffs, but they also make me choke a bit. Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated. (ording/figure it all out.. well, you know chemo brain..couldn't fight my way out of a paper bag lol)

Thanks so much & thanks for support (ps.. yes I'm fighting the damn weight thing too, lost 40lbs but now putting it on)

Beckers - I started out with nice long fingernails like you are talking about and mine would snap off when I started Tamoxifen.  I also had to deal with hair thinning.  On the advice of others, I started taking Biotin 5000 mcg and after a few months I noticed a huge difference in my hair and nails.  Give it a try.  It is a cheap supplement you can get in the vitamin aisle at Walmart or your local pharmacy.

Char56 - I don't know if you can order from the US and have e-cigs mailed to you.  I tried a couple of them and really like Blu ecigs.  It has a box that looks like a cig pack that holds your extra cartridges and spare battery.  The box acts as a charging device for the spare battery so you always have one ready to go.  You just charge the box every few days.  There are blue indicators lights on the side to let you know when to plug it in.

Cher, I'm sure you can find them online. I found disposable one at a smoke shop that was like $8. I went through 2 and now I don't really feel the need.

The weight battle is tough. What is helping me tremendously is a site called Myfitnesspal.com. I recommend anyone try it. You log your food. It tells you how many calories you should have daily to lose 1-2 pounds per week. It already has the calorie counts for the foods. It really makes me think about what I'm stuffing in my pie hole! Ha!

Thank you for the info Jo. I can't believe these nails! And it happened so fast!!!! (I have so much hair, it could stand to thin out.)

Jo, thanks for the tip on Biotin, as soon as the storm passes going to Walmart to get some, you're the second person who swears by the difference!  Thinning hair - I hate looking at the drain catcher after I shower.

Beckers: Yes on the taxotere. Several of my nails (not all of them, weird) turned black while on T. 2 of my fingernails eventually fell off and 2 of my toenails. I had to keep bandaids wrapped around them for ages while they grew back. Oddly, after chemo, they seem like they are stronger. I don't know if it made a difference, but I took brewer's yeast for a couple of months after chemo. It's supposed to good for hair and nails. Karen, I used the biotin shampoo too when my hair started growing back. I used just one bottle though, that stuff is expensive! But my hair is as thick as it ever was.

Karen: Be safe! Head out of town if you need to. That's what we did during the bad tornado outbreak here 2 years ago. We stayed with friends for 3 days until power was restored. The show (David Sedaris) last night was hilarious. If laughter is the best medicine, I got a huge dose of it last night!

cher56--since you are in Canada, before spending money on the e-cig, you might want to talk to your doctor about the nicotine inhaler. In the states it's by Rx only, not sure abou Canada but it is probably covered by your insurance. It a similar concept to the e-cig but doesn't look like a ciggie but looks like the old fashioned cigarette holders and you put a cartridge in it.

I worry about those of you who are close to surgery because new studies are showing links with the e-cig with a rare form of pneumonia, not due to the nicotine but from the base it's in. here is the study:

VJ - What specifically in the base is the concern?  If it is Propylene Glycol - mind DOES NOT have it as an ingredient.  The article was only one page and did not say how the e-cig was tied to the current illness.  Also, why are so against using e-cigs with no nicotine?

It's the ones that have glycerin or oil that creates the vapor. http://stopsmokingstayquit.blogspot.com/2012/10/rare-form-of-pneumonia-linked-to-e.html

I've mentioned it before that there is no manufacturing standards for the e-cig. A small study done by the FDA found that high nicotine e-cigs--had NO nicotine and ones that were supposed to be 0 nicotine were found to have high levels. Because there are no maunfacturing standards--it's buyer beware. and no long term studies have shown them to be safe. As a professional, I can't endorse something that is not evidence based--I could be sued.

If it is being used not for the nicotine, then don't use the cartridge or the battery (one defection one blew up in a users face and took off part of his mouth).

VJ - One can order blank cartridges.  I'm sure the battery failure is very rare.  The e-cig I use has been manufactured under strict FDA guidelines even though they are not approved by the FDA.  For me, living a smoker, this is the best I can do.  Call me weak, wimpy, whatever, i am doing the best I can.

Sorry I have not checked in....but I'm baaaaaack!  Still not smoking, made it through surgery and expander fills are complete (I took an extra week off and we did the expedited fill process - 100 ml at a time put me down for 3 days after).  Jumping through hoops to get back to work, and I get to pick implants and set a date for exchange next week.

MINIMAL complications....did lose my right nipple (that was the breast FULL of LCIS and ALH) and a small part of my left.  Later it'll be a decision to reconstruct the right or remove the left - my choice.

Looking forward to not smoking just for today.  :)

Sometimes I hate typing.  I just typed a message to all and then lost it.  Hmmmmm!  Anyways, congrats to all for staying smoke-free no matter which way we achieve it.

Beckers, I can remember when you started out ... seems like you are in the same length of nonsmoking as the rest of us.

SimplyAudre, glad to hear you sailed through your journey, and are feeling good.

Karen, hope all is well.  I see on the news that Sandy is minutes away from making landfall.  Very dark, raining heavily, and very windy here in Ontario, Canada.  Keep well!

Hi all, very dark, the wind is picking up and it is raining, they are saying that WNY (Buffalo and it's suburbs) won't feel the real brunt of the storm till late tonight and tomorrow. I am 45 minutes east of Buffalo.  We are prepared for power outage, candles, flashlights and a back up plan to get to my stepdaughters if the power is out for a long time.  She has a large generator and we will all just camp out.  Just a regular rainstorm now but they say we should be prepared for 40-50 mph winds with gusts up to 60-70.  Different to see rain instead of snow.  We are all together and safe.  Karen

Karen, thanks for the update.  Glad to hear you are safe.  I just saw on the news that Sandy has been downgraded to a tropical storm - yay!  You are so right about the rain - lots here and lots of wind.  Keep safe!
