Hi Karen! Thanks for your support. I was telling my sister my thoughts, and she said she still thinks of having a smoke. She has been smoke-free for 32 years. I honestly think that once you have smoked, it's always in your. That's just my opinion, and only an opinion. Neither right or wrong. But sure wish I was wrong.

Hi all! well, it's great to hear about all your great achievements!! I'm proud of you all.. and embarassed to say I'm still smoking!!! I'm starting counselling at the Cancer Clinic tomorrow, and this is one of the items to be discussed as I was already having problems before the BC, but since this damn new journey 4 mths ago, it's been a nightmare for me with the mis-treatments, but I'm in chemo now, now, how insane is this?? Do you think they'd treat me still if they just lock me up for insanity? I DID have my 2 patches cut open - ready to put on at chemo #1 time, but forgot them at home. The chemo nurse told me (after hearing some of my story) Cher, don't even worry about it right now, way too much stress happening. try if you want, but don't add more stress over it. She was so nice too.
but of course i DO stress over it!! how the H can I be doing this? hopefully the counselling will help shed some light onto it all. I'm tempted to pay out the $500 for hynpnosis (i know a few it worked on).
guess I just needed to 'out' myself in hopes that it'll kick my butt into gear!!!! (i do put the patch on, but then still have smokes) grrrr. I want to stop & I don't want to stop.. I guess I just have to get MORE onto the WANT part!! like maybe a WANT to live.
((hugs))

Cher56, I think you will have to set a quit date. But don't have cigs available. Be ready to tough out the cravings. Something so strange...i had to tough out some situations that were so difficult and for certain would have sent me back smoking in the past. Because i toughed it out,it is easier now when i face triggers for some reason. I had never made it past that point in the past. What about reconstruction? I know you had terrible difficulty. I really wanted DIEP and that was good motivation I guess. my PS said it would have been bad. He actually tested my blood for nicotine. Ha!
I sure hope you can do it!! Your mind is heading there. Good sign.0 -
Hello Veteran Butt Kickers - I have been away for some time. Too many pages to catch up on so I'm just gonna jump in right here. Been dealing with more recon revisions and just when I thought I was going for my last PS appt - it turns out I have an infection and now on antibiotics. Next PS appt is Nov 7th.
Sorry to say I not only fell off the non smoking wagon but felt like I crashed and burned. Went on a cruise the first part of Sept. When I ordered that first drink on the ship that was it for me. I know I can't drink and not smoke. It is like the two go hand in hand.
Had to find myself a new ecig which I did and like it so much better than the first one I had. Yes, I am still smoking real cigs but have been working really hard and am down to 3 - 4 per day. Not stressing about this, not even upset about it. It is just a bump in the road. I quit for over a year and will do it again. Think I just need a little encouragement. I am already dealing with people around me telling me what a failure I am. I know you ladies understand and will help me get back on track.

Dear Jo, never a failure just a "bump in the road", the one time I fell off the wagon was with a drink in my hand. It was a hard lesson to learn, had to keep myself away from social clubs that permitted drinking and smoking. Every time we get back on the wagon is a success and don't let anyone tell you different. Welcome back, you did it once - you'll do it again. hugs, Karen

Jo - yup - we've all been there. Glad you're not stressing about it. Do I remember correctly that your husband smokes? That makes it extra hard. Just climb back on the wagon when you're ready.
I agree with the comment about 32 years & still thinking about a smoke. I will always be a smoker. I just haven't smoked since 7/11/07. Interesting tid bit from my doc rounds the last two weeks. Two of them said when patients have quit smoking they always know the exact date. People may forget lots of things, but never that final quit date.
Congrats to the VBKs who have achieved new mile stones. It's truly one day at a time and we're here to support you.

you all are awesome! went to that counselling today, and boy, got some clarity for the 1st time in 4mths!!! even some AHA moments....I used to get them all the time before all the blasted drama (even befor the BC).. so driving away... wham.. I (I'm a christian & would normally put in here something, but I do not want offend, & didn't read all the rules)GRATEFUL I had a huge huge breakthrough of WHY I'm still smoking WHY I feel I dont' deserve to do & have all these wonderful things..like living a healthy life.. smoke free!! So NOW I know WHAT to work on.. hooray! I knew something was keeping me 'stuck'... there was more than the addiction! I"m heading to the states for a few hours of shopping soon & will pick up more than a few e-cigs from there (banned here with nic)
Jo sorry to hear about the blasted infection!!! and no no way are you a failure.. my god! let em walk a minute in your shoes!! blast those people! makes me angry.. but fantastic you got some ecigs & are working on things too!
Beckers oh boy yes no matter what tools I use, it will be tough for me. I'm living alone now, and my own worst enemy.. hell I'm my own drug pusher (of nicotine lol) I so get what your saying! thanks
VJSL awesome!! yes, I'll pm you my email .. so very appreciated. I've not read any books on or about it (well... i read those little pamhlets lol)

Thanks ladies for the welcome back. I had to take a short break from BCO and now am back. I did come on BCO to just get PMs from a dear friend.
MinusTwo - You are correct. My husband does smoke and so does both my assistant managers. Talk about being surrounded by the one thing you want to get rid of in your life. Like I said, too much crap going on at the same time. I know know the adjustments I have to make. One positive thing in all this. Shirley, my assistant manager is has also gotten the same e-cig I did and she is really going to try and quit with me so that should make it a bit easier. One can only hope.
I am really liking this new e-cig I got. I think this will really help me this time. I did get the low nicotine and will take myself down to no nicotine in time.
Have a great day everyone.

Cher56, I am so glad you had those aha moments. I am now dealing with a "block" with respect to losing weight. Not just that, but eating healthy. This is going to be another big hurdle for me so I feel ya!!! Now to just figure out how to remove the road blocks...dynamite???

Cher56 and Jo1955 - I will raise my glass to you both being successful in your journey. Blasted things, eh? There are many things I can easily say "no" to but smoking was one of the hardest. I've managed to stay smoke-free for 22 months now and I now have to keep reminding myself why I quit. You both will succeed but don't stress about it!

Day, I just switched e-cigs and if I have to stay on these for a while I will. It is much better than the regular ones. We can always work down to the no nicotine ones. I sometimes think that as long as I live with a smoker and work with 2 more, the e-cig will at least help me keep my sanity and they won't kill us. If you don't mind me asking but what e-cig do you have? I started out with Cloud9 and just went to Blucigs. I once asked the question on here if I was using the e-cig am I still considered a non smoker and the answer was yes.

Jo, definitely a non-smoker especially surrounded by smokers. I give you a lot of credit Jo, it's a hard road and you take it up like a champ!! Karen

Karen, Hard is putting it mildly. It is extremely hard. As long as I can get myself back on the e-cig totally and then work down to no nicotine i will be happy with myself.
Going to my first breast cancer walk in the morning. So excited. This is going to be fun. I will post pictures on my facebook page over the weekend.

so good to see activity here! i don't want to slide downhill, as I consider the bit I did from Sept to Jan last year to be my having fallen off the wagon. always keep my binkie with me and charged up too. just in case.

So many of us have been saved by the infamous binkie, I, too, always know where mine is "in case". Jo, have a wonerfuul, spirit provoking walk. I know when I have gone to all bc events, be they races or seminars, the spirit of sisterhood is enough to take your breath away, (pun not intended).

Day - I have seen those and often wondered how they work. What a conversation piece that would make. Thanks for sharing the info and photo.
Karen - Stupid me had my "binkie" and plenty of supplies when I went on the cruise. Guess it was being around all the smokers - hubby always sat on that side of the ship. I thought my handy - dandy binkie would get me through. But, trying now to get back on track.

Jo, my Dad went back to smoking on cruise. That was when I was still a smoker. I could kick my ass because we lost him to cancer. I had forgotten about that. :-/ Damn cruise or damn smoking daughter! I hate cigs!!!

Beckers - I am so sorry for your loss. I know the damn things are bad and I am trying to get off of them again. Living with a smoker does not help. If I have to stick with the e-cig to keep me off reg cigs then so be it. I am do the no nicotine if I have to.

Jo, you'll pull through...I've no doubt!

Day, that is a pretty fancy tool! I won't ask where you got it because I will want one .... and for me, I can't do it or I will be back on regular ciggies!

Day - That is beautiful. Where in the world did you find it?
Judi - I'm doing great today. Participated in my first breast cancer walk and had a blast even though it was very cold outside for deep South Texas - 55 degrees this morning. Let me see if I can post a picture of all the gals & one guy that went with me. We had 4 survivors in the group. My dear friend is 18 years cancer free!!

Hi Jo, glad to hear you are doing well. I wonder where you went to but figured sometimes we all just get plain busy. You are looking pretty fab I would say. Wonderful group of walkers. I can't believe it is that cold out. My sister has a place in Brownsville, Texas and will be leaving in a few weeks to go. I'm going down there at Christmas for 10 days. Sure hope it warms up I remember being down there 12 years ago, and it was flippin freezing. I really needed my ski jacket, mitts, hat, you get the pic .... I couldn't believe it. Hope it warms up soon for you. Stay well, my friend!
