FYI--After 30 years of misleading warning labels on nicotine replacement products, the FDA is finally changing the labels to reflect what has been known in tobacco control for a long time: you can smoke and still use NRT without adverse effects, you can use NRT longer than stated on the box, you can use multiple types of NRT together (as well as use them while still smoking--it will help you cut down.)

There has been so many myths and concerns about NRT but it is safe, and effective--if used in high enough doses. So if you've used one NRT in the past and it didn't work--try it again but use 2 products or a higher dose, start to cut down while you're still smoking by using NRT. PM if you want specific recommendations.

Hello ladies. Still have not tried the wellbutrin prescribed for me. I read that it is NOT good to be on if you are also on tamoxifen. So, since I will be, and wellbutrin builds in the body, I am not taking it. Going back to just vaping for now. Today was a good day! NO CIGS! Halelujia!

Hi Ladies! Thank you for all your well wishes. I feel so much better this week. Grumpy and nasty most of the time.

VJ, it is a sucky way to become smoke-free, but at least it got me on the road to home-free. I was tempted and still am, but the smell of almost everything except my favorite foods repels me from almost everything. 2 more weeks and more chemo.

Chris, sorry you got flooded, that really sucks.

Hi Lisamarie and Beckers, hope you guys are okay.

Miss you all, hope all is well.

I am here! Thanks for checking in Beckers. I am up and down on the cigs. I was so smug and confident for a bit there thinking I had this but as my radiation grows closer (starts 4/22) I get more nervous and I cave in and smoke one here and there. But, I am working with smoking cessation and I will beat this. My complete QUIT day has been re-set to April 21st and I signed a paper with the smoking cessation counselor that I will not smoke after April 20th. She said if I do, I have to stand in the corner for an hour for each cig (she was just kidding..lol) She is truly awesome and we are doing some great work uncovering why I smoke and when I smoke even when I am trucking along and trying not to.

She rechecked my carbon monoxide levels from the last time we met and mine went down 20%! She was thrilled with that. It does eventually drop to more normal levels.

Do you realize how BAD that is for us? OMG, when I read about what carbon monoxide does to us, it should be enough on its own to make me quit let alone having f-ing CANCER! Sheesh, these addictive little cylindrical 48 cents apiece suckers have GOT TO GO!

    Hugs and love to all!

Good to see you braids and April. Glad you are in quit mode still. How cool that they are checking your carbon monoxide levels...helps reinforce why you want to quit.

Braids, what kind of chemo are you having? My friend just took sleeping pills to knock her out during chemo weeks so she slept through it.

    Hang in there everyone!!!

Well no wonder when I get stressed want to smoke.  Turns out I'm ADHD.  Had thought so for the past 5-8 years for ADD.  Apparently my incessant talking and interrupting others is how I am with the H part.  The smoking kept me busy it would seem.

Guess it's no surprise, since Son was borderline for it and even to this day can't keep from jiggling his leg if he's sitting down.

GalSal, you always crack me up.

Spent time with DH's family yesterday, they are the best. No one in the family smokes, so it was really nice to get out of the house, eat, drink and be merry for an evening.

Hope you all are doing well and Judi, you getting any nice Spring weather yet? I haven't forgotten about you and Beckers, I will be here waiting to cheer you on to walking off the excess...Wink

Hi ladies!  Just checking in wishing you all a happy Sunday!

My internet is very slow...sometimes I log in and there are no posts and then all of a sudden, a bunch of post from days past pop up.  Very odd.  But want everyone to know that I am thinking of you & praying for you!

I am going nuts trying to figure out this e-tank thing!  So what are the odds that today, when I finally found a minute to call these ppl to order, there's no phone number on the website and the online chat is unavailable.  <<Ughh...>>!!!  I am getting dizzy reading the website, trying to figure out what I should and should not order!  From what some of you have said, the e-tank with the liquid is better than the ones with the cartomizer?  They have starter kits posted, but even reading through that is making me nutty!

I am trying to prepare for my PMB with reconstruction.  I am planning to have the direct-to-implant but because my breasts are too big, I need to have a slight breast reduction/lift first, then wait 6 months, then have the mastectomy/recon.  My doctors are in NY, they are the best in this field and I really want to have this done.  The PS knows I smoke, would prefer that I do not smoke, however if I absolutely cannot stop he would rather see me on just nicotine (like the patch) than to be smoking cigarettes with the added tar, etc., that can cause even more complications.  But the nicotine itself is bad. Ideally they want me nicotine free 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after but will work with me if necessary.  I think the critical period is the 2 weeks after.  TWO WEEKS!  Only 2 weeks and I can't do that?  What is wrong with me?????

I am supposed to be contacting them tomorrow to schedule the surgery (I will be paying out of pocket for this part...big, big bucks, thanks to my awesome HMO.  NOT!) but I am such a mess because I can't stop the damn smoking!  I have been putting this off for 2 years!! On one hand I just want to do it, get it overwith & take my chances so I can be ready for the 2nd surgery by the end of this year.  But then I worry about extreme complications lasting the entire summer because I know I cannot quit entirely.

Anyway, that's my vent for today!  Just want to order this etank! Will have to wait until tomorrow when hopefully a live chat person is there.

I hope everyone here is well and enjoying the weekend!  Thanks for listening!!

Galsal, LOL!  You are very funny!

Shawtez, hope all is well with you .... good to hear that you had a good time on your outing.  Sometimes this is all we need to lift our spirts!

Lisa65inNY, how frustrating .... when you try to quit then something comes along that causes a klitch.  It will all work out for you.  I think the biggest thing is to decide what is best for you .... stop agnozing over the unknown.  Work with what works best for you and it will all come into play.

Rebecca, I hear you on the lbs.  I have cut back on the food part, and it is starting to come along.  I am starting to fill full after dinner .... the first few nights were a killer.  DH was going to put a lock on the junk cabinet.  Told him I would have to double lock it since he eats more junk then me.  Will be starting a new program on the 22nd - supposed to lose inches.  We'll see.

    April485, hi!

    Have a great evening everyone!

Good Morning ladies, I have recently been DX and scheduled for surgery on 4-30-13 for LX. I too am a smoker and know I need to quit. Since being DX I have cut down, but with all the stress and trying to figure all this out, it has been very hard. I have been thinking about the e-cigs. Has anyone had any luck (Sorry I have not read all the threads).  Today I will not be bringing my cigs to work (this will be a first) and hopefully it wont be too bad.

I have not seen the rad dr yet (4-15-13), but I am reading some side effects regarding the heart and lungs, which being a smoker is not good and scares me.

So I did bring 2 cigs with me to work, and left them in the car. At noon I went out and smoke one. I was getting a headache. The other one,  I had when I got out of work at 430. So overall I think I did okay today.

Of course I had my morning cig(s) before I left for work. I am home now, which will be alot harder, but I am going to try. Have a good night!

Welcome Jude!  You are not alone .... whether you are trying to battle the beast or trying not to think about it, we are all in this together.  The ladies here will be with you.

So, after all this time, I have a question.  Is the e-tank small?  In my mind's eye, I picture it like an oxygen tank.  God, I wouldn't want to push that around all day .... would tire me out.  I honestly have never seen one.  I imagine it is not but that is how I see it.

For those of you who only had a couple of smokes today, I say great going.  Honestly, it's better then a pack or two.  It will come together for you.  It's hard but doable.  Yesterday, I was thinking of smoking but then forget about it as quickly as I thought of it ..... cleaning so this was one of my triggers (besides many more)!

I thinking quitting is one of the toughest things I did but not as hard when I was diagnosed.  The hardest thing .... trying to fill my bucket list ..... sadly, my bucket was empty!

I have not set out to actually buy one or even look for one, so I do not know. I do know a couple of people that e-cigs help them quit, but what kind they used I can not say.  It is one my list to go look this weekend. From what I hear there are so many different types of e-cigs. Geez another decision that I will have to make regarding the unknown Cool

So today I will be only bringing one cig with me to work! Have a great day ladies!

Judi, the bucket list is where I am at. I don't actually have a list but am going to make an effort o get off my keester and do fun stuff! No more sitting home whining fo me. I may whine still, just not from home.

Hi Jude! Glad you are getting there. Cutting down is good. Personally, I'm glad I got it over with faster though if that makes sense. I had patches and ecigs, smoked my last, cried as I smoked it and then quit. Not easy, but doable. I wish you the best as you get ready!!!

Hi all! Hope everyone is hanging in there.

Rebecca, I just can imagine you crying out the last smoke .... I was so forlorn when I had my last.  It was like losing a lover, bff - all tied into one.  Only smokers could think like that.

I need to start filling my bucket .... 1st one was exercise so I'm going to see the personal trainer .... either I'm joining body reboot or personal training.  I went to the store and tried on a pair of pants - too tight.  I know not all clothes will fit me but this is so discouraging.  I did think of smoking .... kept me slim.  But I'll just keeping trying on clothes till I find one that fits or wait until I get that new body I'm dreaming about.  Oh yeah, that is really going to happen, eh?
