Hey, this place has been a ghost town! Hi Braids! I know rads kicked my butt too. I am still smoke free. Today is day 47! Woohoooo! Hope everyone is well. Lisa, you still quit? Hope so! xoxo to all!

April, Braids, Lisa & all - you're doing great. Glad you're keeping at it.
Funny (sad) story about a friend who quit Jan 1st. Her husband promised to quit too, but of course he didn't. He smokes outside & gets upset if she doesn't join him & sit in the smoke. He drinks a beer & thinks she's mad if she doesn't have one too. Beer = smoke. She finally gave up & takes the beer, pours it down the drain out of his sight & drinks water. Somehow she's made it 5 month and plans to soldier on, but it's really hard to go it alone.
For the first time in 6 years I can honestly say I haven't thought about a smoke due to the chemo. Heck of a way to quash those thoughts.
Just for today !!!

Beckers - my goodness - a year. You should be so proud. You must do something special to celebrate. Congrats.

Thank you MinusTwo! I am. How are you feeling?

Beckers, HIP HIP HOORAY for you, a full year. You did it and you should do a happy dance for yourself. A very dear friend from bc.org, who has passed on, when something momentous had happened, we would meet for coffee and in a very public place just hold hands and dance around for a bit. So grab hands with someone and celebrate your momentous accomplishment. You have come from counting in days to counting in years!!!!! Karen

Karen: Fantastic idea. I hope you don't mind if we all borrow it.
Beckers: Hanging in there. I'm just so proud of you.0 -
Dear Minus Two, borrow away, we always got smiles and some puzzled looks when we did it, but it made us happy. I belong to a bc.org regional group of women who meet once a month for going on 2 years now and this month we have happy dances for 8 of the 9 of us, good mammos, good WBC levels, finishing rads..., I hope we don't get thrown out for being rowdy, lol. Karen

Hi ladies, glad to see everyone is doing well. I checked the site but saw no activity. Weather here in Ontario has been up and down - warm then cold. Starting to have enough of this. Braids, rads do kick your butt but it will be over soon ... just think your kicking cancer's butt! April - day 47 - really now I have to convert it to months - almost 2 months - you go girl. Your kicking nicotine's butt. You must be so proud of yourself as we are all of you! We knew you could do it. Rebecca - one year .... do the happy dance! I remember your days of first quitting and how dark they were but you beat the crap out of nicotine. So proud of you. MinusTwo ... sorry to hear that you are still going through chemo but hang in there .... we are all going to being doing the happy dance with you! Kick the crap of out "C". Karen, love your dance ideal. Where do we all meet?

Hi JudiH, usually in Williamsville, a suburb of Buffalo, then we switch over some months to Batavia as we have 2 new members from Rochester. Batavia is halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. Is that too far for you in Mansfield, Ontario?

Thanks girls!!!! ALMOST DOWN TO THE 24 hour COUNTDOWN TO ONE YEAR!!!!! happy dance is on!!!!!!! Wooooohhhoooooooooooo!

Beckers: You deserve celebration. Think of all the money you've saved over the year & splurge on something special!! One year is such a milestone. Congrats & keep up the good work

Thank you so much! I am so happy. I truly thought it was hopeless for me to ever quit. You all helped so much!
0 -
Oh Beckers, we never thought you were hopeless! We were there with you step by step and when you thought you reached rock bottom, we just pulled you up to walk alongside of us. Congrats girl, you deserve it. It's like earning air miles isn't it .... one year, then two .... !

It's awesome Judi! You all were right there when I needed to vent or even celebrate my newest week count. I am excited. Wish I got some free travel for these miles but so happy to be freeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Happy ONE YEAR Beckers! Today is day 58! Woohooo! I am a NON SMOKER! Keep the faith. If I can do it ANYONE can. 46 years of those nasty things. Now I spend every day wondering why I didnt quit sooner. All that money. All that suffering (and yes, you suffer when you want one and cant have one) and all of that money (lol) so do it. It is soooo worth it!

I am usually on the DIEP thread, but I found this and thought I would stop in. I have been smoking over thirty years. The day they told me I had BC and the PS wouldn't operate on me unless I quit smoking I thought, "breasts? no breasts? smoking? breasts?" I put them down and never looked back. I am one month out from having my DIEP and I will be 4 months smoke free by then. I always knew the cancer threat was there the whole time I smoked, but until it really hit me.....
So, you can do it if you want something badly enough. I wanted breasts that wouldn't fall off after surgery. I still wake up every morning craving a smoke, but then I put those stupid fake boobs on and know I can do this.

Goldie, good for you!!! I too quit because I was having DIEP. Then I stayed quit because I wanted to be free. Stop by any time. Good luck with surgery!!

April, day 58! Unbelievable .... and you thought you couldn't do it. We knew you could but you needed to find faith in yourself before you did it. I hear you about why we continued to smoke but we will never know, will we? Goldie, congrats on your quit .... yes, we want breasts that won't fall off and we want lungs, and we want to live. That's why we quit but it may takes us a while but we do it!

Congrats Goldie! Enjoy the new boobs! You earned them!!
