Welcome Judy! Thanks for all the support guys. So far so good, made it past the morning coffee, the hour drive into work and the drive back home. On the down slope now. I am getting one of those e-cigs I think that will help. Did any of you use those?
I got my MRI results--No cancer "just" a herniated disc
Have a great evening!

YEAH for you Mmahle. what good news, funny how anything short of bc is "no problem". congratulations on the hours not smoking, that first cup of coffee and driving are tough ones!!! I used the e cig when I was quiting - if you go on Search, use my name and the word E Cig and you will see a good many posts, Seaside, thank you for that tip!. it's a great one. In the beginning I used the second lowest mg they offered then went down a step, then 0 - just holding it, we used to refer to them as our adult binkie. There are so many available now, I'm sure you can find e cig places in the city of Houston, just google location and e cig stores. Keep up the good work and you'll get to the beginning of day 2, you are on your way. Karen333

Welcome Judi! Are you having surgery tomorrow? Maybe you will get to sleep through day 1 being smoke free!!
Congrats on the good news Mahle. Sigh of relief huh? Yes, the e-cig helped me a bunch. We call it our "binky." I used a cheap disposable from smoke shop. Some of the others have used the one where you add oil. I think you can taper off nicotine that way. I also found the patch helped take the edge off.
Glad you are doing well Braids. Only one cig?? You go girl. Hope you are doing okay with Rads. So glad to see you back online.
Lisamarie, hoping you are doing well.
Lisa 65, where are you??
Shawntez, you doing okay??
Who'd I miss??
I am doing better. Have the day off and need to go do some housework.
Talk to you later.0 -
made it 1/2 way thru day 3! I did get an e-cig yesterday and that is really helping Jude123 how are you feeling? I hope your surgery went well. Thank you for all of the support I'm feeling pretty good about this. I emailed my step-daughter who is a Marine serving in Afghanistan and she is SO HAPPY her Daddy and I are quitting. I hope everyone is having a good day!

Dear Mmahle, first a great big thanks to your daughter, we can never apreciate our troops enough for the job they do. CONGRATULATIONS to you, day 3 without a murmur from you, you are doing so well!!!!!!!!! The e cig really helps, that's what I used, in the beginning days I practically slept with it in my hand. You officially have an adult binky, may it serve you well. Mark your quit date on a calender, for soon you will be day 4, then 5 and so on. What a great gift you and her daddy are givng your daughter! You go girl.

A big congrats to both Braids and Mmahle .... great going guys .... you are well on your way! It's hard but it does get easier as time goes on. Can't wait until I'm 80 though for that smoke!

YAY Braids and Mmahle! You are doing great! Day 10 for me today..never thought it would happen. E-cig and patch and cancer finally doing the trick..whatever works I guess.
Jude123, hoping that you are doing well and that your quit date was the day..if not, keep trying!
Karen, you are right...binky is a good word for it..lol
Take care and keep it up. We are worth it.
Judi, we have a date for that 80th BD cigarette!

Sending a big ol' yaaaaaaaaayyyyyy to Mmahle for 3 days smoke-free !! Those first few days are the worst! Things will get easier as you go if you just stick with it.... Promise! And if your daughter is anything like my two kids, she will be over the moon happy that you and her daddy are quitting!!!
April!!!! Day 10!!!?? You should be very proud of how well you're doing ( I know I am proud of you)... Soon you can choose how you want to count... days?...weeks?... And soon months and years!!
Jude123,
Hope surgery went OK and that you are resting comfortably!
Braids and Shawntez,
Hope you both are doing well!
And last, but definitely not least, hi to Karen, Beckers and Judi!!!0 -
Keep going strong!!! You girls got this!!!! Congrats on binkies and making it yet another day!!
Ms. Judi, you have a date with a ciggy for your 80th birthday? Ha! You're so funny. It'll probably make you puke by then. Hope not tho...don't want to jinx it. I don't know if I ever will. I have thought about using a binky again ever since I gave mine away. Never wanted it any more until I gave it away. Go figure!
Hugs xoxo0 -
Good morning ladies, Surgery went well however I did not make it w/o a cig. Today is a new day and I will continue to try. Thanks for the support

Jude123 surgery is stressful enough. You will do it when you are ready! Hang in there.
Thanks for the great support y'all are wonderful! I am keeping my "binky" very, very, close. It is helping a lot! Here's to day 4!
April485 day 10 Congrats that is AWESOME!!!

Beckers, you are like a kid when you give their blankey away ..... did u cry .... I think I remember say you were almost down and out about it. Ha, ha!
Jude123, yay for the surgery going well. Don't worry about the smoke. Hell, what you went through ... a smoke is the least of your worries. You are right back up there and that's what counts.
To the others who are now counting their smoke-free days .... congrats again. If I new they had a site like this without the "c" thing, I would have loved it. I know the Canadian Cancer Society sent me 8 million e-mails but they were like telemarketers .... can't stand it when they called. Made you feel like you were a loser. You know, we all have good and bad days but in the grand scheme of things, if you make it to your goal .... absolutely fantastic. No one wants to hear your failure because we already know it .... we are living it firsthand. So to all, keep going .... you will be there!
Rebecca, I been thinking about that smoke when I'm eighty. Actually, it has kept my mind off of "will cancer return". Something nice to think about!
MinusTwo ... you doing o.k. Lisamarie, you doing o.k. Braids .... you doing o.k.?
Karen, what happened to Jo1955. Did she leave this site?

Jude123,
Glad the surgery went well! Concentrate right now on being kind to yourself and allowing your body to heal and then, when you're ready, give the quitting cigarettes another try! Maybe start at this point writing down anything that you thought worked as well as what did not.. Each attempt teaches you something that may help the next time! As your signature says... The more you know, the better you do... So true for everyone in so many different ways!0 -
Mmahle....
Yaaaaaaay to day 4!!!!!! Hopefully things are starting to feeling a little easier for you! I was a cold turkey girl but I know many of the ladies here have had great success with the 'binkys'... lol! Whatever works! Quitting smoking was probably one of the hardest things I've ever done... I will say this... I've accomplished many things in my life (I won't bore everyone with the details) but, quitting smoking was the only one that both of my kids, separately, told me how proud they were of me.... Priceless!0 -
Hi there everyone. Well, here I am in the Stop Smoking thread hoping to find support and friendship with all of you. When I was first diagnosed in 2010 I went to the store intending to buy my last pack and instead told myself if I bought it, it would just be another pack I smoked. So I didn't buy one and went for two years not even craving it. I had smoked since I was nine years old (almost 40 years). Then about a a year later I grabbed a ciggy from a friend and took a drag. The next day two drags. Then half a cig and on and on. Now I'm back to smoking about half to three quarters of a pack a day. I LOVE MY SMOKES! But I really need to stop. So this weekend I'm going to give it a try again and hopefully I can do it. I don't feel like it's going to be near as easy this time. By the way, what's a binky? LOL

Jude, glad surgery is over. Keep planning for quitting and don't beat yourself up. Tomorrow is a new day! :-)
Mahle, you are doing awesome!!! Is it getting easier for you?? Binkys are awesome. I misssssss mine! Ha you are right Judi!
Judi, weren't you worried about a cancer scare recently? What's the status on that? Damn cancer will always be lurking and bugging the crap out of us I think! I hate it!! I get it about giving yourself the smoke when you are 80. At that point WTH! Party up.
Shawntez and Lisa's!!! Where are you?0 -
Hope the quitters in progress are doing GREAT! I have the feeling that you all are.
Rebecca, I'm always scared about a reoccurrence. Sometimes, I think it is in my head. Go for bone dentisty test on the 13th. I doubt they can tell anything from this.
So, I had an interesting moment today. I was at the car dealership waiting for my service bill and I told the girl I wanted to smoke. Someone overhead me and they handed me one. The two other ladies quickly grabbed it. So, no smokie for me. But, the packaging intrigued me. It was a slide pull-out package and there was no info on it re nicotine amount, etc. Again, just some ugly picture of what it can do to u. I've have touched or seen a smoke pack in so long that I was amused by all of this. AND, the package had a best before date on it - December 2013. As if that pack would last that long! Ha!

Welcome Lorij!!!
You've quit before so you've hopefully learned a bit about what worked for you and what didn't before! Great support to be had here!
As for the 'What is a binky?' question.... Several of the ladies here have used some form of e-cig to quit and found that it satisfied the physical habit of smoking much in the way that a pacifier (or binky as some call it) is soothing to a baby... lol!
Things can get a little slown here on the weekends but, will do my best to check in....0 -
Welcome Lori!!!!! Glad you are here. Did you get a binky??
0 -
Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome. I'm gonna give this a try starting tomorrow. I actually do have a binky (now that I know what it is) lol. I only used it a couple times way back when so I'll have to go dig it up. Thanks again for the support. I'll keep everyone posted.

Welcome Lorij.
I sure hope LisaMarie is OK. I don't think she's been on the boards since 4/12.
Shawntez - you gave us your great new picture, now looking for a good news treatment update!! Maybe you're just in the yucky SE week?
Judi - I'm enjoying the last few days before my next chemo on Wednesday. Finally able to eat other food besides BRAT. As advertised, major hair shedding on day 15 so I got a "burr" & a wig & a sleep cap. I don't have many friends left who smoke, but I'll have to check out the packaging.
Seaside - always nice to see you here too.

Lori, I'm so sorry that I missed "welcoming" you to the site. My sincere apologizies. When I scroll down the threads then I miss it, and then forget it. I'll blame it on that and memory loss. Anyways, sorry your here but it's a good place to quit. Many of these women have done it. Have you read the newest quitters who have gone past their wildest expectations! You will be among them!
Ladies, go to recylying day - so glad to get rid of some of this crap!

Welcome Lori!
Just a quick hello. Today marks 14 straight days without a cigarette. I think I miscounted a few days ago. I had my last cigarette on Sat April 20th at 10 mins to midnight...(had planned my quit forever date for the 21st) and have not smoked any since.
Instead of getting easier, I am finding myself craving one more these past couple of days...what is up with that??? It may be cause I had to stop the wellbutrin which gave me a rash over 1/2 of my body (and that little side effect is only 2-3% of people who take this drug and of course, that would be me) and the drug was helping me not crave smokes. Who knows..
Ok, heading out to get some annuals since it is gorgeous out and want to plant something this year before the season is over..LOL
Hang in there. This is so worth it and if you are new, get VJ to send you her e-book. It really helps along with the e-cig and the patch (yes, I have permission from the APRN to do both and even to use the gum when necessary with the patch and the ecig) so take advantage of it. She sends it free of charge.
LisaMarie and Shawntez and Braids...hugs!

Welcome Lori!! You can do it starting day 6 here. It is getting easier. Still have a lot of triggers but, the e-cig is helping with that. Thank you all so much for the support I can't tell you how much it is helping. I have so much scan anxiety this Friday is my 3 year PET scan. I have 3 of my grandson this weekend so busy, busy, busy. My 6 year old saw my e-cig and the end lights up blue. He goes GRANDMA! that is SO COOL can I try it????? I was like oh no baby...It still has some of the nasty stuff in it that cigs have but, g-ma is trying to get rid of the cigs. He says oh good Grandma! Needless to say, I'm keeping my e-cig hidden from him. I don't want him thinking its cool...Geez never had to worry about that with cigs!
Y'all have a nice relaxing weekend!

April and Mmahle46, great, great, great going! You girls are doing fabulous. Don't worry about the craving .... throw them over your shoulder. It does get easier with time but every once in awhile you crave one. I'm 2 yrs. and almost 5 months and again today I thought I like one. It's a fleeting thought but all the same, there!
Enjoy the sunshine and your planting April .... my garden needs work???????

Hi everyone
Really thought when I was diagnosed with bc quitting would be no brainer. Not so much! Been smoking for 30 years - yikes that looks bad in writing.
So now I sit here day 3 after first chemo treatment ready to quit and wondering best way? Can I use lonzeges?
Would be nice if chemo made cigs taste bad!0 -
Welcome Ipc ... sorry you had to come here but it is one of the best support groups you will find. I can't say about chemo making the smoking taste bad as I didn't have chemo but sit bad and think why it doesn't taste like crap. When you are ready or have a few more sessions, you will stop smoking or it will taste like crap. Really, I just thought of that ..... don't know what crap tastes like. No one can push you into quitting - only you can do that and when the time is right, it is right. Stay with us as these ladies will help you through it!

Welcome IPC! I used the patch, e-cig with nicotine and eventually without, and all of the love and support from the ladies on this thread. I quit last June and i remember reporting in here every sunday with how many weeks i had, then it became months. I cant believe in just one month I will have a year smoke freeeeeee!! It feels great. Stay close. I am sure everyone will share what worked for them.
Congrats April!!!! And Mahle!!! Keep up the good work!!
Missing you Lisa's, Braids and Shawntel!! Hope you are doing okay!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Xoxoxo0 -
Wow Rebecca - one year! It does seem like ages when you first quit ... shows time does fly by!
Beautiful day outside so I too hope everyone has a great weekend!
P.S. Rebecca - I'm starting a weight training program on Tuesday since I decided I'm not buying another thing if it is one size bigger!!!

Hi all, thanks again for the well wishes, welcomes, and support. I guess I should admit my first day I was naughty. I smoked five cigarettes. At least it was less than I have been smoking, but today I've already had two. I won't knock myself out for it, and tomorrow is a work day and everyone at work still thinks I'm a non-smoker so I'm certain to stay away from them for most of the day.
Lori
