Harley, I envy you your pool. I don't even own a bathing suit and haven't for years once I started to gain weight. So mostly I yank up my pant legs and wade or just dangle feet in every body of water I can get access to. Hope that the SE's of the chemo are minimal so you can enjoy today.
Going to DS's for a family picnic and I volunteered to bring dessert since standing to make potato salad is not yet an option. Sent DH to local bakery for a cake since I wanted either a Jewish apple cake or a cinnamon cake but all they had left was carrot cakes. So he got one for today. Hoping everyone will like it.
Today is Regan's 4th birthday. She is quite a changed dog from the one we rescued less than 2 years ago. She will get a dog ice cream cup today to celebrate.

we’re having barbecue pork this afternoon. I’ll go see DH this morning. I don’t know what they have planned for the holiday but probably something. I can’t stay up for fireworks. Sunset isn’t till 9:10 so won’t be dark till 10:00

And on July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
For all the fact that the congressmen got around the sticky little problem of Black and Indigenous enslavement by defining “men” as “white men,” and for all that it never crossed their minds that women might also have rights, the Declaration of Independence was an astonishingly radical document. In a world that had been dominated by a small class of rich men for so long that most people simply accepted that they should be forever tied to their status at birth, a group of upstart legislators on the edges of a continent declared that no man was born better than any other.America was founded on the radical idea that all men are created equal.
What the founders declared self-evident was not so clear eighty-seven years later, when southern white men went to war to reshape America into a nation in which African Americans, Indigenous Americans, Chinese, and Irish were locked into a lower status than whites. In that era, equality had become a “proposition,” rather than “self-evident.”“Four score and seven years ago,” Abraham Lincoln reminded Americans, “our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” In 1863, Lincoln explained, the Civil War was “testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.”
It did, of course. The Confederate rebellion failed. The United States endured, and Americans began to expand the idea that all men are created equal to include Black men, men of color, and eventually women.
But just as in the 1850s, we are now, once again, facing a rebellion against our founding principle, as a few people seek to reshape America into a nation in which certain people are better than others.
The men who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, pledged their “Lives, [their] Fortunes and [their] sacred Honor” to defend the idea of human equality. Ever since then, Americans have sacrificed their own fortunes, honor, and even their lives, for that principle. Lincoln reminded Civil War Americans of those sacrifices when he urged the people of his era to “take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Happy 4th. to all. Quiet day here. Rained most of the night and a good deal this morning as well. I got up twice, listened to the pouring rain and just went back to bed. The patter of rain on the roof is such a great sleep aid. By rights (timewise) I should have been wide-awake. Some muted sun at the moment. Possibly some humidity today but could hold off till tomorrow. It is 76 degrees right now at the 10:00 a.m. hour.
Hot dogs for supper sound good to me as well. If I don't use buns for them and I'm careful all day with salt, I can have a couple of hots dogs at one time. Also, I make my own potato salad with the only salt coming from the mayo for which I use brands with reduced salt.

Quiet day here after a busy time hosting our friendsfor the week. At 4:00 our neighborhood has its own parade with bikes, trikes and flags. We will be porch wavers and encouragers.
Dh picked up beautiful steaks to grill and I'll prep baked potato and salad. Simple and how we like it this year. To see fireworks we'd have to go to one of the beaches and neither of us is interested this year. We'll probably just end up snuggling two kitties to calm them if we ðo hear fireworks.

Spent 4th at DS's home with quiet cookout. DDIL got some mixed yellow and white corn which was absolutely delicious. DD brought fresh fruit bowl with cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, mango, pineapple and kiwi. It was so refreshing. We brought a carrot cake that was also very good and there was virtually nothing left when we left to go home. Typical 4th food with burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad and coleslaw.
They have a lovely sofa that has recliners built in so I was able to spend most of the day with leg elevated. Their dogs would join me but unfortunately the Frenchies managed to hit my leg several times so it was really sore last night. Had to ice several times during the night and take Norco to get relief. DDIL's father had had TKR several years ago so we were exchanging comments about surgery and post-op course. He said that his second knee has remained quiet since the surgery so he has postponed replacement for now. Nice to know.
Hope everyone had a great 4th. PT today and will ask her to focus on inner aspect of knee since this is the area giving me problems. Have a great day.

Good morning. Had another thunderstorm last night. Once again I played musical sleeping arrangements and going right back to sleep. The rain for me at least is almost better than a sleeping pill. Not anything much on the agenda today. Dh heard from our friends. Apparently, (we need to actually be sure) none of the Schnauzer pups born to their male and female are spoken for yet. We really had hopes of saving an older small dog but in our area they seem to go first. So, we will go sometime today and see about the puppies. The people that have the dogs are/were my BIL's neighbors. He (BIL) passed away but the house which the neighbors bought from my BIL's estate was our first lake house. So we have known the people for a long time, but just don't frequent that part of the lake.
Had a nice time yesterday. Very low-key which at our age is just what we like. We did indeed have hot dogs and chips as main part of our meal. I get bread that only has 90 mgs. of salt in each slice so I put hot dogs on that. I was never a huge fan of either hot dog or hamburger buns as it ends up a lot of bread for one smaller piece of cooked meat. I have enjoyed buns though if they were slightly toasted on the grill along with the meat. Otherwise, I actually do prefer bread for both sandwiches.

We were PICKED. I fell in love with Lil' Red the minute I laid eyes on him. He is the smallest of the boys with wonderfully cury hair and less of the silver tips colors. Also, he does not have the larger feet like the others. He has a vet visit tomorrow with his owner for his puppy shot but shortly thereafter we will be able to pick him up. The puppies are a few days shy of 8 weeks.
We met the parents who actually both belong to the owners of the puppies. We talked for a long time but Lil Red kept coming back to the side of the playpen we were on. I reached down to pet him and he rolled over on his tummy. Enough for me — we were edging toward him the majority of the time but that became the deciding factor.
We are a mite timid since we had hoped to take a dog who REALLY needed a home, but unfortunately our age and health issues prevented us from taking the neediest due to generally size or a real distaste for cats. So, while we can love a puppy just fine and certainly will we chose to get one if possible, from our neighbor if that was the way to go. We will get good info and as well know we aren't interacting un-beknown to us with a puppy mill.
We are excited despite the work and will have a little time to get some things for the puppy. He, If you look up Schnauzers you will see pretty much what he looks like. He doesn't have quite as much silver as some of the others, but in time it will appear more. These ones are Silver Tipped Schnauzers. There is in general a lot of variety.

Hot and awful humid today. I did minimal work - laundry, and grilling dinner was it. I should have brought the portable AC unit downstairs. If it’s like this tomorrow, I will.

I will have to actually find out if Lil' Red is the official name. If so, we have no objection at all to keeping it. He has 3 other brothers and one sister. So, they all have different colored collars and his is Red. Dh always said he wanted a girl, but the one female of the group was already spoken for. Dh just thinks male dogs like to 'pee' on everything, but that for me isn't really true.
Since we are not breeders, at the proper interval this dog will be fixed. We have found that all dogs as well as cats just tend to make better pets that way and as the President of our local Humane Society said — when you don't allow the breeding you tend to stop a lot of cruelty and need to euthanize often. Also, you really need if you are going to do it, to be an educated breeder. One who knows how to hopefully ensure a good and positive outcome for a mating pair. There's a lot to it.
So we do feel great anticipation. We have a lot of necessary items, different sized crates, and lots of different sized doggie dishes since we did rescue for so long so won't be too costly right at the start. Also a lot of soft towels we like to use as partial bedding along with a number of doggie beds. This dog will be an only child. At our highest we had 6 dogs, but it is like anything — too many dilutes the time and energy and attention they all need. We rescued so it happened, but it is far from an ideal. We have slowly tried to extricate ourselves which is not to ay we'd never help an animal in need, but we are not into advertising our willingness to do so.

Oh what a beautiful morning. That is partly since I think we didn't have any night rain. I do worry it may get a little on the 'steamy' side, but I hope not. I don't see one leaf moving on any of the trees so I'm hoping we will be okay. Going to be a sort of lazy Saturday here. The usual daily chores plus some of the extra packing of things to leave the house for good. I never seem to accumulate quite as many boxes as I end up needing for donations. That's a tip off for me — I bring a lot more in than I should. Always the way it seems, You bring one or two things in and don't think much about it — but when taking things out that you no longer use or want it becomes a near truck-load. Sadly, I've done it more than once. I think I'm better now.

So glad you were able to find a puppy to fill that fur baby need. Nice to have a warm wriggling body to play with as well. Now he just needs to meet the cats and hopefully that will go well. So happy for you.
Sounds like what DD and DSIL experienced when they met Banjo, an immediate connection. She was here yesterday after her first vet visit by them and she was charming as ever. She adores my DSIL and follows him all over. She has gained 3 lbs. since they adopted her but the vet feels she will most likely only get into the 30 lb range at most.
DD brought a new bouquet of flowers and some really delicious scones for breakfast. Plus some angelcots which are the size of apricots but pale yellow rather than peach colored. Taste wonderful. Seems they are a "limited white-flesh apricot" that smell like nectarines with a limited availability from June to end of July. Grown only in California by Frieda's. She also brought me some Rainier cherries which I absolutely love except for the price. They are super expensive here but I also found that while the price is lower in Washington state, the season is brief and those purchased at end of season are not tasty.
Heat advisory warning for today so will most likely stay inside. Plants need watering so we will do that later. It's already 83 degrees and very humid according to DH who cut walk with Regan short this morning.

Illinoislady, congrats on the new pup. Our three Airedales were all rescues. The last one was papered, pedigreed, and all that stuff. His registered name was (seriously) Archie Pooh Mohawk King. We changed it to "Jeeves." The one before him was registered as "Chuck III." We called him Oliver. The first one was "Bart" and we called him Theo. Loved every one of them in their own way. All so different.

Sunshine, my husband’s and I used to show and breed Airedale Terriers. Small world. Our DD learned to walk holding on to the tail of our “girl” we called Rascal. Same dog, if I yelled at her for something it never meant anything to her. She would just wag her tail at me as if to say, “Don’t worry, you’ll get over it!”LOL She would also like to rub her wet beard on me after she got a drink of water! Such great dogs!🐾❤️

My tumor edema has gotten large enough that my left leg is also weaker and I've been having trouble getting out of my recliner. My neighbor took me shopping today and I found a lift recliner my size on sale for the 4th of July. It'll be delivered next Saturday.
In the mean time a friend came over this afternoon and moved the things from around my recliner to around the couch which I can still get up from.She also washed my dishes, cleaned my kitchen floor amd dried and put away a load of clothes, and brought chili for supper.

Puffin: Those lift recliners are a blessing. I’m glad you found a sale! And what a great friend you have to help out with many different chores around your place - that friend is a keeper.
Jackie, I caved a little while ago. We dragged the portable AC out of storage and downstairs to the living room. We’re both still not 100% yet, mostly just coughing, so neither of us went outside. It was 93 and felt 101. The house was comfortable for quite a while if you’re just sitting and reading, but I had enough. I don’t like these heat waves.
Sandy - we haven’t heard anything from you in a while. Hoping the new house set up is working better and things are moving on your real home.

Rough night and not sure why except for persistent deep ache in knee that wasn't touched by Tylenol. Iced before I went to sleep but it wasn't much help. Will play catch up on sleep today. Another hot day in store for this area.
Birds and squirrels have been coming to drink out of our fountain. Water in bird bath evaporates too quickly.

Good Morning. Looking at sun out my window and it is already 80 degrees. Hope we don't get much higher. We didn't yesterday, but the 'heat' and 'humidity' could catch up with us.
Puffin, I feel so grateful that you had a wonderful neighbor available who was so willing to see to many things to help you at your house. Also thrilled about the chair. Such a help for you. Wish it could be gotten to you sooner, but at least it is on the way. Also much hope that your therapies will bring improvement for you.
Cindy, glad to hear you are going to have some 'cooling' now. I think it is not always the heat being somewhat un-pleasant, but the vagaries of a little extra humidity, or hotter by a couple of degrees more etc. A constant temperature (slightly cooler in this case) is better than those little iffy odds and ends of differences that keep your insides trying to adjust.
Sandy, I really agree with Reader. Hope you as well as kits are getting control of your situation. Wow, you are going to have self-adaptable kitties hopefully after this. You are all going through so much.
Betrayal, hope your rough nights straighten out for you. I'm such a believer in the restorative nature of sleep and I worry when I hear of anyone having a difficult time during the 'sleep' hours. Fingers crossed that it was just a one-time event.
Nothing on much for today but the usual. Maybe a quick trip to Goodwill.

Puffin, so glad you will be getting the lifter chair soon. It will take a little getting used to, but will be such a big help for you! My DH has one and it is wonderful! I agree with everyone here, your friend is awesome!
Sunshine, our Maverick was named by my kids after Maverick in the original Top Gun. Funny about the connections! Would you believe I must go now because my little Cairn Terrier, Kelce, is scratching at my legs demanding my attention! LOL

We were up about 8 AM to meet with a tree service. It’s my turn, again, to get tree trimming done. The estimate - remove the 2 limbs stuck up in the branches, cut the “nubs” from all other broken limbs off, and remove 10-12 branches hanging over the pool and outside the fence; $950. I’m calling 2 other tree services for estimates. In my head I thought it would run about $600-700. So we’ll see what the other companies say. I could be way off.
It was another hot day. My cousin came by and put up an industrial shelve to put our microwave on. It’s kind of high, so it’s a good thing we’re tall. We had my niece & daughter down to dinner. I ran to Eddie Bauer before they came by. I had a $10 reward I forgot about, so I grabbed a new shirt. That was my day.
I’m sitting outside in the screen house watching Hulu. It’s quiet and cooler now as the sun has set. Tomorrow I have my yearly with my ob/gyn. I’ll be glad to get it over with. Hope you all had a good weekend, because here comes Monday!
