I would like to thank whom posted the article from Dr. David.  It has settled me down enough to form a conclusion of what I can do to help myself.  I will print it out and take it with me to my Doctor, for my upcoming appointment for my Synthroid refill.  Then maybe I can explain to her why I got so dizzy (ditzy - same thing).

Since I could not get a copy of my reports, I've been at the deepend.  I was reassured by an aquaintance that if something from my biopsy was cancerous it would have to be registered then followed up within a set period of time that helped calm my conspiracy theories. Although why I cannot have a copy has perplexed me too.  Anyway.

    Sooo  Thank You very much.

Will wait to see if things are mended between my Doctor and I and will have to wait for my second set of imaging to see what kind of concerns are present and since I am no expert at any of this, and that will be a while, I will be 'logging off."  This is just the exact information I needed.

Let me just say too, that with so many people looking to survey the people who post on this entire magnificent site, I realize why so many people stick to the details.      (Woundology)

    Hi Vivre,

Where did you buy your iodine?  I can't find any that have higher dosages.  What brand do you use?  Thanks.

I buy Iodoral from breastcancerchoices.org on the internet. I've not found any cheaper and I like supporting them. They sell the 12.5mg pills and a 50mg pill. I get the later.

Thanks Springtime!  What a great website.  I just ordered them.  I will enjoy that website when I have more time.  For now, it's time to get ready for work.

What would I do without my bc sisters.

studies have linked iodine deficiency with fibrocystic breast disease.

studies in rats given iodine showed tumour shrinkage.

lab tests showed wakame seaweed more effective at killing cancer cells than the chemo drug 5 flouricil.

to be safe: my advice is to eat some seaweed/sushi every week.

You are right about the eating iodine rich foods, but it is still hard to get all we may need with food. Read Dr. Brownstein's research. The iodine does change our breast tissue. It sure did mine. It does kill cancer cells. Everyone of us should be supplementing with iodine for the rest of our lives.

    Hi All,

I just had my second consult call with Dr. Flechas after my second Iodine loading test. Here are some notes:

    • Suggested I go back to 2 ATP co-factors, vs. 1
    • Says I must come off the Iodoral a few days before and 2 weeks after surgery, as Iodine can interfere with the development of scar tissue (this was a new one to me).
    • Wants me to keep my Magnesium at 640+ per day and not decrease to 390+ per day.
    • Felt my previous amount of calcium per day 1500mg was not an issue, (note, I have decreased to 665 mg per day).
    • About teen-aged daughters with a family history of breast cancer: suggests 5000IU daily of Vitamin D (mentioned that 25% of breast cancers are due to a vitamin D deficiency), also suggests they take 1 ATP co-factor and 25mg of Iodoral per day.

I will retest again in 4 months. Dr. Flechas said over time, as my body becomes more and more saturated with Iodine, that I may require less and less thyroid hormone. This will be apparent in tests that are done to check my levels. He felt I should stay on 130mg of Nature-Throid given my current levels (I put details together in a ppt file and faxed to his office earlier today).

He was very nice. I told him I'd talk to him again in a few months.

Oh , my second test went up from 59% to 64%, and he told me to NOT TAKE Resveratrol, as this has been shown to inhibit the absorption of Iodine. (I ran out recently and will not reorder).

Spring, congrats on your iodine levels going up!  Did you have a bromide test done too?  How do you manage your magnesium intake?  I started using magnesium oil topically, but I'm not overly thrilled with it.

There's a radio interview with Dr Brownstein that's available on the internet that ya'll might find interesting.

    Dr Brownstein interview

There was an interesting story in the toward the beginning about a doctor or a midwife in the late 1800s who promoted the idea of washing hands often to reduce the spread of infection.  He was ridiculed and sanctioned by the AMA.  The poor guy was tossed into a loony bin and died a broken man.  I knew the AMA has a long history of acting like thugs, but I didn't know it stretched all the way back to the 1800s.

Althea-what about the story of the young Civil war bride whose husband was shot up so badly, they brought him home to her to die. They told her to put some iodine on his wound. Well she kept putting iodine on it all day long, and lo and behold, he recovered! I think this stuff is a miracle. It is pretty infuriating that modern medicine has been taken over by the drug companies, who do not want anyone to know about iodine. I think Dr. B deserves a Nobel Prize, but then again they never give those things to people who deserve them anymore.

Althea, I take the magnesium in pill form, and from supplements that already have magnesium in them. I wonder if there is some sublingual way. (Though I get it would taste bad! lol).

    Hello ladies,

I have been following your thread for a while and appreciate all your good info.

I do have a question for you, if you can help me.  I had a thyroidectomy for

papillary cancer in June of this year.  I have had some symptoms with my

throat; breathing, speaking, and some mucous.  I was diagnosed with LPR

laryngopharyngeal reflux recently, and wonder if any of you who have thyroid

symptoms, or have had surgery, have any GERD or LPR symptoms?  I read on

the thyroid board that problems with the thyroid can cause gastroesophageal

problems. I never had any problems prior to the surgery, and I feel it is connected.

My surgeon sent me to a pulmonary doctor, and my pulmonary  function and chest

x-ray were normal, so I went to an ENT for diagnosis.  Thanks for any replies.  I hope

this is the correct thread to ask this question.

PS  why does my post get printed with the sentences going to the next line before it

gets to the end of the line?

Welcome MomoB! Can't help you with the sentences thing, sorry! and I am sure someone with more knowledge will answer your other question!

I have been putting off starting the iodine, I don't quite understand why, however I decided, after talking on the phone to one of our wonderful sisters (Patty!!!) to just DO IT! anyhoo, is it possible to have an immediate effect??? I kid you not, it was like a fog lifted, I could concentrate, my mood was better WTF!! is that possible??

I was listening to Dr. Brownstein on  a talk show from somewhere in Texas (I think). Very interesting stuff. He as talking about his book on  Iodine. He also recommended getting professional help when going on iodine. Do most of you see someone? How do you know how much to take? I had a bad situation years ago when I lived in Mexico, washed all fruits and veg with iodine/water mix. After two years I developed hyperthyroidism. I did an "alternative" treatment (with a practicing endocrynologist) (sp?) and have been 'fine' since. I do believe i need to take the iodine, I just don't want to send my body over the edge again.

Lorraine - great pic! Beautiful as always.........

Went to my naturopath yesterday and she prescribed iodine! I have it in liquid form and I haven't taken it yet. Like our lovely Lorraine, I'm afraid to take it! I'm also not sure how to take it and with what? Also, I took a sniff  and I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the pills.......lol

Any suggestions on how I should take it - maybe just in some juice? Can I add it to my morning juice along with the Omega 3 oil I put in there ??

    Thanks,

    Terri

    Rinna,

Re: getting professional help when on Iodine. I do the Iodine loading tests at breastcancerchoices.org. After you do one, you can get a free "consult" with Dr. Flechas, who is an expert.

I've done 2 tests so far and had 2 consults. They are very helpful. Honestly, nobody locally could advise me on the Iodine protocol. So having a few minutes with him gets me a "game plan" to follow.  Even my Osteopath is not totally with it with the Iodine stuff.

All, just a reminder, there is a lot of good info and a protocol on the Iodine on BreastCancerChoices.org   This should help you feel more comfortable (TERRI AND LORRAINE!!!)   LOL LOL LOL....

Terri, you might want to visit the yahoo group for iodine.  When you say liquid iodine, I'm assuming you mean Lugol's.  It comes in different concentrations, so you'll need to be certain of what you have so you'll know what dose you're taking.

I think I saw you mention on the natural girls thread that your doctor recommended no selenium, and that gives me pause also.  Everyone who starts iodine supplements seems to have a buildup of toxins that compete for the same receptors in our bodies -- bromide, chlorine, flouride.  The detoxing process involves not just iodine, but the iodine protocol.

Copied from breastcancerchoices.org, the protocol is:

        * 50 mg Iodoral minimum for breast cancer (may start with 12.5 mg).

Some practitioners may recommend another form of iodine such as
Lugol's solution.  Iodoral is the Lugol's formula in tablet form especially
          designed to avoid gastric irritation.

        * Vitamin C - 3,000 mg per day (more may be necessary to detox bromide).

        * 300-600 mg magnesium oxide or comparable magnesium supplement.

        * 200 mcg selenium.

        * 500 mg niacin (B3) twice a day. (NOT niacinamide) Start lower to avoid
flush. *See update in left margin on the ATP Cofactor as an alternative.

        * 100 mg Vitamin B2 three times a day. *See update in left margin on the
          ATP Cofactor as an alternative.

        * A comprehensive vitamin and nutrition program.

        * (Feb 2008) Dr. Guy Abraham cautions that "excess calcium
supplementation (2,000-3,000 md/day) has been the most common
cause of poor response to iodine supplementation." Vitamin Research
          News Vol. 22. Number 2.

Like Althea says, it is a good idea to join the iodine group. I learn something new everyday there. It is essential that you take selenium with iodine. I take my iodine with a mineral multi. Progesterone also works in tandem but all antioxidants(vit d, c, tumeric, etc) should be taken at least 2 hours before or after iodine as they counteract each other. Also, iodine should be taken early in the day, as it would keep you awake at night.

Also when you begin the iodine it is important to use a liver support such as milk thistle. I was itching like crazy so I stopped the milk thistle, thinking that was the culprit. But after reading the iodine group, I learned that the toxins were just coming our my pores, causing the itching. I also had really bad body order on and off. This too I thought was from the supplements and I thought it was the selenium. But again is was detoxing. All those symptoms are now gone, so I am confindent I got a lot of the gunk out at last.

Fairy, I think the best liver detox support is a metagetics product called Advaclear. I got it from my chiro because they do not sell to the public, or so I thought. I did see they had it at luckyvitamin so I might get it there. It is still pricey but half what my Doc charges and I know the stuff is well made. But a cheaper alternative is any of the liver detox's available which usually contain milk thistle, and other herbs. I do not remember which one I tried. I actually did the liver detox before the iodine because it is good to have your liver cleaned up because it will be working hard to detox when you start iodine. People freak out over the way they feel when they first start, but it is a good sign that the bromides, clorines and other halides are chelating out. I mostly had headaches and lethargy, but I did the salt loading and felt so much better. By the way, iodine makes the urine really yellow so do not freak about that too.

Oh, and Lorraine, I love your new pic. You look fantastic!

OK, now I'm freaking out !  I thought I had all this figured out and now I find out (thankfully) that I have to take Selenium if I'm taking iodine. Now I'm really afraid to take the iodine. I'm not taking any magnesium at the moment nor Niacin or Vit B2 so I'll have to get some before I start.....

Oh............. I thought all this supplementing would be easy , NOT !!

No need to freak out terri.  I was supplementing with iodine for months before I followed the full protocol. Even now, I'm fairly certain my vit c is less than 3000 mg.  Selenium is in most multivitamins.  A few raw brazil nuts will give you some extra selenium.

I've been tinkering with supplements in earnest over a year now.  My body temp is still below normal after all this time; it was the way down to 97 this week. I've learned of an iodine literate doctor in houston, which is 4 hours away.  I'm beginning to suspect nothing short of thyroid meds will get my thyroid back on track.  Mexico is closer!  I wonder if I could Armour or Naturethroid in Mexico?

Thanks Vivre! Decided to switch it up a bit! Smile my multi has selenium, I do the 3000mg of Vit C, but I am not getting enough Magnesium or B2, I will add those.  I haven't felt any side effects so far except that I feel really really good!!
