Inspie, I have heard that the "flush free" doesn't have the same benefits.  Have you heard of this?  Has anyone else?  I really want to take niacin but so far my attempts with the regular kind left me nauseated and faint.  If the flush free works, I could try that.

Deni: I'm glad everything went well for your DH and that is is recovering nicely. Great news that the cancer was contained and had not spread. Still sending healing vibes for a speedy and pain-free recovery.

Merilee: Thinking of you and saying prayers for a clear path report.

I went to see the hematology Dr today. He said that the elevated d-dimer does not necessarily indicate a blood clot and ordered more tests. He also didn't think that all the supplements I'm taking had anything to do with my blood issues - which is the good news. He's suspicious of my liver and has ordered a complete liver panel. My next app't with him is in 2 weeks although the tests results will be in tomorrow. I see my ONC tomorrow and hopefully the test results will be on the data base so he can give me the results so I don't have to wait in suspense for 2 weeks. The waiting is the worst part not to mention that my exchange surgery will be canceled if I don't get the OK from the Hematologist. If it's not one thing it's another....please say a prayer that the results come back normal. I don't think I can stand any more health issues this year - this BC sucks....

    Good news.

The tumor I had removed Wednesday was small ( 8mm), was contained and I had clean surgical margins. Not signs of spreading or lymph nodes involvement.

Thank you all for the positive light.  I now need a 3 day nap LOL

What great news, Merilee!  I'm thrilled for you!!!  Oh, you must be soooo relieved!!!

Terri ~ It sounds like you have an excellent hemo doc.  Thank goodness he doesn't think there's a clotting issue or any problem with the supplements you're on, and let's hope and pray that your liver panel comes out okay, and that whatever was going on was just a temporary blip on their radar screen, and that it will be full steam ahead to your much-awaited exchange surgery!

Merilee, enjoy your well earned 3 day nap! I celebrate your good news.

I am DONE with recon surgery! Discharged from hospital and back in hotel. Sore, stiff, but I can tell already this is going to be a LOT easier than the one in Sept, or the one last Dec. ((My third big surgery in a year!)) Thank you for all the good ju-ju!!! I agree with Mer, the positive engergy, prayers, the good stuff put out there in the ether, it makes the most incredibly huge difference.

    Love you girls! Spring.

    Get some rest natural girls.

Why do you guys want to take the niacin? My pharm seemed to think it was not a good idea. I really think you should find a compounding pharmacist who understands all the chemistry.

Don't forget to give thanks for prayers answered.

This topic just flies with posts, its really humbling.

Ok so want to say, congrats to Spring on a surgery well done.  There is a natural soap dealer in the nola farmers market who makes out of her kitchen- worthy of checking out her stuff if you are up for a walk.  Terri, best of luck for your upcoming results.  Anom is back - yah!  Deni, hope you and your hubbie can rest and he feels better soon.  Holly - welcome.  Julia, no IDC - great great news.  Hmmmm chemo brain setting in...  Merilee - congrats.  Ok now Im lost - please nobody be offended :)

Its so hard to keep up with this thread sometimes - so many posters - it really is lovely.

Wanted to add that I stopped eating red meat - by red meat, free range, anitbiotic and hormone free. I just have no desire to anymore. I am hoping the same will go for dairy since I seem to like hemp milk better.  Still love the way soy tastes but talk about gmo's.  It is interesting how far GMOs have been exploited.  GMO used to be swabbing your pear tree with your apple blossom, it's frightening the extent greed will stretch peoples morals.  I have to say that I am very excited about my garden.  We have a huge section behind our shed in our new home which will be for my garden.  Im adding that I am seriously considering a green house garden because of acid rain.  I will use a filtration system on my plants.  I live in NJ and most of the natural lakes are dead because of acid rain so Im pretty concerned.

Nice to see everyone again.  xoxox ..ps - I always say thanks - good point viv.

YAYYYY SPRING!!! So glad to hear it!

And YAYYYYY MERILEE!!!! Glad you were able to get clean margins!!!  Heh, even though they took an 8-CM chunk out of me and still weren't able to get clean margins, I'm still VERY VERY VERY THANKFUL and feeling good about having re-excision in a couple of weeks!!!!!

Interesting article in the L.A. Times yesterday.  She actually gets to the right questions towards the end of the piece. It's too bad she didn't develop them at all.

    great article thanks!

    read this article this morning.

BETHESDA, Md., Nov 5, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Low cholesterol may be a result of underlying cancer, challenging a concern that lower total cholesterol may lead to cancer, a U.S. researcher suggests.

Dr. Demetrius Albanes of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., and colleagues looked at data from 29,093 men from the Alpha-Tocopheral, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention Study.

Low cholesterol was linked -- as in previous studies -- to an 18 percent higher risk of cancer overall. However, this risk disappeared when the researchers excluded cases in the early years after the original blood draw. Also, higher levels of high-density lipoprotein, the "good" cholesterol, were associated with a 14 percent decreased risk of cancer even after excluding nine years of early cases.

"Our study affirms that lower total cholesterol may be caused by undiagnosed cancer," Albanes said in a statement. "In terms of public health message, we found that higher levels of 'good cholesterol' seem to be protective for all cancers, which is in line with recommendations for cardiovascular health."

The finding is published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

Well, I have cholesterol around 200 now, and it was 220 around diagnosis, but I always had really really high "good" cholesterol. And I got cancer! ugh. Makes you wonder.

Spring, so glad you're recouping well after your surgery.  I went to the same surgeons you have, and they are SOOO worth travelling for!  Stage 2 is a breeze compared to stage 1.  I was recouping in the Monteleone on the 8th floor when the fire alarm went off.  My friend had just left the room to find some dinner, and I walked down all those stairs on freshly lipo'd legs!  No one else was in the stairwell.  You'd think I could figure out it was a false alarm, but head is definitely fuzzy at that point.  ....if you get an undeniable craving for chocolate, the Red Fish Grille has double chocolate bread pudding that is crazy good.  Enjoy the rest of your time in nola as best you can!

Merilee, well, damn you're already on the previous page.  Anyway, I remember you got good news and congrats.

Is this what you guys were looking for about Niacin:

    http://www.swansonvitamins.com/SWU081/ItemDetail

Maybe you could call the company to get more information. They seem to have a lot of info on their site.

Deanna, I enjoyed that article. I would love to get in touch with that writer and see what she means by starting an alternative women's health movement. Maybe she would join us in "Sink the Pink".

Julia, welcome the lopsided girls club. I was really upset at what a huge chunk my surgeon took, but now I am thankful because he got wide clear margins. He told me at the time he wanted to be safer than sorry. I am so glad I did not have to go back in for a doubledip.

Fairy, interesting news about the cholesterol. I have been reading that the whole cholesterol number is not what it is purported to be anyway. It was just something the drug companies came up with so that doctors had a measurement by which to prescribe more drugs. My cholesterol reading actually went up since I started all my lifestyle changes. So maybe eating right, losing weight, and exercise, which raised my number, does have a good effect. Maybe a higher number is better?

Dr. Christiana Northrup says the normal used to be 300+, higher cholesterol is actually protective as long as your homocystiene (sp?) level is good.  Dr. Northrup says aiming for a good cholesterol level of 50+ is excellent mine is 75 so I am not going to worry!

    Hi Crunchy...

I noticed that you were wondering about heirloom seeds for a garden.  I ordered some from a website business at abceeds.com.  The box cost about $30.00 and contained a wide variety of heirloom vegetable seeds (I think enough to plant a 1 acre or 1/2 acre garden).  They also have heirloom herb seeds.  The seeds are packed in vacuum packed pouches and are said to keep between 3 and 10 years or so, if stored in a cool dry location.

Spring! SOOOOOO happy that your surgery went well and you're on the mend. 3 surgeries in one year is enough - I know, I've had 3 so far this year and one to go!!!!!!!  Rest and take care of yourself.

Merilee: What great news! You must be so relieved that there was no node involvement. All those positive vibes helped I'm sure. We're so lucky to have so many wonderful ladies rooting for us and sending healing light.

I went to the ONC today and he had the results from the Hemo Dr. I saw yesterday. Apparently my #'s went down a bit more but they are still "off". My liver panel came back normal and apparently when I have a pelvic US a couple of months ago, my liver, spleen, kidneys all looked good. So I'm relieved about that. My ONC did tell me today that the OK has to come from the Hemo Dr as to whether or not my exchange surgery is a go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to have it as scheduled. He also said I can re-start my Tamox 3 weeks after my surgery...WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT...not sure I want to go there again...if you know what I mean. Anyway, I do want to give thanks to all of you who said a little prayer for me. Prayers do work and I'm thankful for your healing thoughts.

On another note, I have been chatting with a "sister" on the Montreal thread and we met today at the hospital! It was so nice to finally meet her - we talked for almost an hour!

    Sending white light,

    Terri

Terri - great news that your numbers went down. The healing thoughts are still working so I have a good feeling about your Hemo Dr. giving the OK. I'm sure all will work out for the best in the end.

That is amazing that you ran into a "sister" at the hospital. How did you realize who she was?

THANK YOU!!!!! I am going there now... I'm so excited!!

Now, girls... I've tried to keep my chin up but I have to say this has been one of the worst weeks I can remember in a long time. Mind if I whine for a minute and get a little lovin'?

This week, all this has happened so far:

     - was told that they didn't get all the cancer and need to re-excise (I've tried to be all cheery about this but the fact is, IT SUCKS)

     - my precious 7-year-old dog has been sick and we thought we were going to lose her... she just spent 3 days in the animal hospital... hopefully she'll be okay now but it cost over $700... WELL worth it for my baby girl, but I didn't have that $700 to spend

     - my Mom called tonight to tell me that their sweet Golden retriever died... he was almost 13 and in poor health, but it still hurts to lose him... he was my dog when he was a puppy 12-13 years ago and I love him... I miss him and wish I could hug his sweet furry self one more time....

     - I've had the WORST cold of my life... I don't get it... I've been eating well, supporting my immune system for 3 months now... how could I get such a horrible cold??! does this mean my efforts to rebuild my immune system are just not working??

     -  on top of everything, I got stuck in a muddy ditch tonight... thankfully, a kindly redneck helped me out and towed me with his tractor (it was actually his fault that I got stuck, but still, I'm thankful he pulled me out)

     - I'm WAY behind on client work and have been getting emails constantly, "we're so eager to see your work; is it ready yet?" nooo, it's NOT ready yet, I'm way behind because of cancer, I'm trying as hard as I can!! (this is SO stressful for me!!)

     - my house is a DISASTER AREA. I'm a slob anyway, but I've been so sick I haven't been able to do even the bare minimum. It's so gross and depressing....

There's a lot of other dumb little stuff which would ordinarily never bother me, but it's all gettting me so stressed and down... I'll be glad when this hideous week is OVER... anyway, thanks for letting me whine for a little bit... hopefully I'll be cheery and optimistic again sometime soon!!

Julia, take the advice of another gal from Georgia:

"Tomorrow is another day" (scalett ohara)

You Georgia peaches may be soft on the outside but you have a really tough inner core. Hang in there girl. You will get through this. Maybe you need to go find a peach tree to hug!

    Julie,

Blame that cold on having had your body insulted by surgery and physical stress. I rarely get colds, either, but I am getting one two weeks post-op...

I'm envious of the garden. I live at too high an altitude for tomatoes. But I can grow some killer zucchini if the weather's right...

Spring--you say you're done. Did you do nips at stage 2?

Deni: We planned it beforehand that we would meet at the hospital today. She and I both had blood tests to do this morning!

Julia: Close your eyes and open them up Saturday morning! Wow, what a week. Hopefully you got all that out of your way and next week will be absolutely uneventful. It sucks that they have to go in again to get clear margins. Hang in there. Sorry to hear about the dogs - I'm a softie when it comes to animals....... Forget about the housecleaning, first things first, look after that cold, love that dog of yours and tell your clients you'll get to them when you're feeling better! Will pray that you find peace this weekend and the strength to push forward......
