DeAnn, that is hilarious!! I'm sure my parents think I've turned into a hippie too. My Dad brought his own two-liter bottle of Fanta orange soda. I read the ingredients to him (high-fructose corn syrup, all manner of chemical preservatives, yellow # such-and-such etc.) and explained how all of those things will give him cancer either directly or indirectly (by affecting insulin etc.), and he just didn't care. He's already had polyps removed three times and has had severe gall stones... but I didn't see him drink any of our plentiful spring water a single time. His daughter just had CANCER for crying out loud, and he waltzes in here eating garbage and drinking poison??!!!! I don't get it!! Sorry for the rant; that's not very hippie of me!!0

Deni63: I'll be thinking of you and your husband and sending positive vibes for his surgery on Monday. Praying all goes well and that the cancer is confined and he recovers quickly.

Oh, and Deni! I can't believe I forgot to write that I will most definitely send out healing energy and positive vibes to you and your husband on Monday. I hope all goes well.

Oh Julia, I know! It is hard to see loved ones making bad choices while in the meantime, they think we are the crazy ones!

I think the "stop it all" mentality for supplements is because the surgeons just don't know what to expect.
And I think also, depending on the type of surgery, stopping certain supplements is wise. If you're going in for a ten hour microvascular perforater flap surgery, you don't want flap failure due to either excessive clotting or excessive bleeding or blood pressure too high or too low. I had to stop my main supplement (Body Balance) because it is so rich in aloe and vitamin E. Also stopped the CoQ10 and fish oils. But I kept up with my C, D, Cal-mag, and brassica teas.
Also, I think pre-op it's smart to start some arnica. But if you're not comfortable with that, start it, plus Bromelain, post-op to help with bruising and blood flow. I just had major lipo done as part of my Stage 2 surgery, and I have lost those bruises quicker than I ever have.

Here is a link to the Pure Food and Wine Thanksgiving menu, in case you are interested. It is still posted although I don't know for how long...

Also, for all of you fellow "hippies" out there, although I like to think of myself as an urban hippie, I found this website. They sell cheeses made out of only organic nuts and raw ingredients. It is pricey, but I just ordered some as a "holiday" treat. I cannot wait to try it!

Thanks so much for the healing vibes. I can feel them working up already. My husband stopped all supplements a couple of weeks ago. They were particularly interested in having him stop the fish oil that he normally takes. He stopped the others (VitD, curcumin, B17) just because we don't know enough about how these might affect surgery. And, while it is not ideal to stop because it is "safe", we just don't know the effects at this point.

Pill, I'm definitely interested in the Susun Weed book! I think that might be good material for a new thread. We could call it the holistic book club or something like that so when it shows on active topics it would be abundantly clear what topics we're seeking.

I'll go into broken record mode briefly since supplements and surgery are pertinent topics right now -- I've read at the sloan kettering site that drinking aloe vera juice might contribute to excessive bleeding during surgery. I think since it's consumed as a beverage, it might not 'register' as a supplement. I don't even know if it's correct information, and I really dont want anyone finding out firsthand.
deni, I'm already sending pink healing light to you and your DH.

Good morning Ladies
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. My family (all 22 of them) just left this a.m. WHEW. It was fun though. I am glad that Merilee, Luna and Julia are all doing well and healing.
Deni-Sending healing vibes to your Husband and strength to you as well.
Does anybody read the "Natural News" that is sent via e-mail?
Hugs to all.
Jenny.

Like Jenny, I hope you all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving and for those who don't celebrate, a wonderful weekend. Mine ends at 6 tonight when my older daughter takes her flight back to San Francisco....it'll be quite a while before I see her though I am hoping I can get out there in January or February. (I live on the East Coast).
Take care all and have a great day.

My recent new journey w/ BC has brought me to a new awareness about the food I'm eating. Of course no one in my medical posse could give me advice. I took myself to the Kushi Macrobiotic institute to a week long seminar. I found it very useful and have incorporated the diet into my life. It all makes perfect sense to me, good organic wholesome food. My recovery from my lymph node removal has been quick I'm hoping this diet will carry me through the chimo that I will be starting in the next two weeks. No sugar, no dairy and no animal fat, I did not miss turkey this Thanksgiving at all.

Thanks for posting this. I have been radically modifying my diet ( which was not bad) since my diagnosis as well

Hi everyone,
This is Karen from NZ again. I don't post much but read this blog everyday and learn heaps-thank you! I have a question regarding thermograms. I had my first one done last week and it showed quite a bit of red in my chest area-should I be worried about this? I am coming up to one year since diagnosis, finished chemo in July but did not have radiotherapy. I had a TE exchange in August so could it still be inflamed from then? I have to wait another week for my results so am a bit nervous! Any thoughts would help. Thanks

How about a group prayer hug tommorrow for Deni's DH at 9 am central? That will probably be about time for his surgery. Deni, my SIL gave one of her kidneys to her brother 4 years ago and is doing fine. I am sure your hubby will too.
Lunapoli-Welcome to our group. Do you have a macro recipes that you learned you can share with us?
Karen, my therm showed red areas around my scar tissue, 2 years later. It is normal, as it indicates there is inflammation. The therms will also show blood flow. If there is a lot of blood flow to the red area, that is not on the other breast, then you might be concerned as tumors develop a support system to be fed. Have another done in 3 months and see if it is cooling. Mine showed less red every time, a good sign, I am getting another one in two weeks(my 4th), and then I will compare them again. I really think that this time will show a huge difference because I can feel the difference since I started the iodine protocol. The areas that were sore, are no longer, and the scars are disappearing. All the lumps aer now soft. I know the iodine did it. I cannot wait to see the results.

Okay ladies, I've been persuaded to dump my Flax Seed Oil in favor of Fish Oil. Any brands you guys would recommend ?

Deni ~ I will also be praying for your DH tomorrow morning. Have they given you any idea how long a surgery it will be? From your earlier posts, it sounds like he's in excellent hands, but I know it still must be very stressful, I'm praying that you and he both feel at peace and surrounded by prayer tomorrow. (((Hugs))) Deanna

Deni: your husband is in my heart and prayers today.

Deni ~ God Bless you and your husband. Wishing you both peace and ease.
MTG ~ I like the Nordic Naturals brand fish oils...they make a lot of products, but I use the Ultimate Omega. This brand was recommended to me by both my acupuncturist (she referred to them as "high-quality products") and the very knowledgeable guy at the health food store. I have never had any "fishy" taste, which was very important to me!

How much Calcium D-Glucarate should I take per day? Is this the only calcium? Or is there any other kind of calcium I should be taking as well? How much Vit C and does it matter which brand of C? Thanks:)
0 -
Luna, calcium d-glucarate is a body detox. I take Nature Way or Natures Plus, I can't remember. I am at work or I would look it up. I take what the bottle recommends. I also take calcium lactate for the ole bones. As far as the vit c, breastcancerchoices.org sells a great c if you can afford it.
