    I know most of us actively posting on this thread probably don't use artificial sweeteners very much, but here are a couple of good articles for anyone who might be interested:

    Congratulations on your 6 year anniversary, Althea!  It's inspiring to know that what we're learning and doing can make such a huge difference, and I hope we all continue to feel better with each passing year!

    Glenis, I'm a novice re, coconut oil, so will also be curious to know the answer to your question.    Deanna

    Althea congratulations on your 6 years and hope each year get only better.

    I bought my coconut oil at Walmart in the food aisle. It's organic and says for cooking. I've been using it for about 2 months and use it on my face and other parts of my body... I put part of it in a pump but then it turned cold here and it now has hardened and won't work that way. LOL. So, I just squeeze it out of that bottle and hope for warmer weather!  I put it on my face prior to my foundation and on my legs after showers. Will try the scalp and hair after the shower next. like that idea!

    At work I've gotten some Johnson's baby lotion with coconut  oil and use it. More convince at my desk.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
    I personally don't take B's, because I don't need to. I take microalgae's...such as spirulina and chlorella, which are jam packed with nutrition, and most of the B's - also very high in B12. Microalgae's are a food...not just a supplement.
    http://www.botanicalpreservationcorps.com/microalgae.htm
    Spirulina - Is the richest known plant in vitamin B12, one of the top sources for the full spectrum of carotenoids, and is abundant in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, D, E, K, chlorophyll, and RNA/DNA....and sooo much more.
    Chlorella -  Chlorella contains an impressive 60+% bioavailable protein; providing 19 amino acids including all essential aminos in excellent proportions. It is high in enzymes, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5(niacin), B6, B12, C, E, K, an array of carotenes, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, iodine and exceptionally high in iron. Richest of all the edible algaes in essential fatty acids. It has the highest levels of chlorophyll of any natural source, up to 5 to 10 times that of Spirulina! Again sooooo much more.
    I've dropped many of my supplements...because of these two super foods.
    I actually bought a bottle for my onc. He told me that he already takes the spirulina at around 3pm...when he's most tired - and it gives him energy, and that his brother also takes it. Maybe he's taking it...or maybe he's just trying to be polite...who knows? But at least he accepted it with grace.
    Victoria, do you buy your microalgae from that website? I have been searching for some. I would love to know just what you take? Thanks!
    Hi seaotter,
    No I don't, I rarely buy anything online. I purchase the Hawaiian spirulina and sun chlorella at my health food stores. You shouldn't have a problem buying them at health food stores at your end. They're quite popular.
    Here's a vid on Hawaiian spirulina...
    And I also mentioned my passion for microalgae on the chlorella thread...
    Victoria, I also would like to know more about what you take and your advice.  I have been taking Ascorbic Acid from Life Extension so am very interested in your above post against it....please elaborate.  If I could streamline what I am taking and do it more naturally like you are instead of all these supplements...I would prefer that.  Maybe I am taking too much of the wrong things.  This is just so confusing.
    Re Coconut oil....I was using Spectrum until I read that I should be using Extra virgin Unrefined...so now I'm using Garden of Life, Living Foods Extra Virgin Coconut, 100% organic, No GMOs, Vegetarian, certified Organic.
    Congratulations Althea!
    Yes they are brand names, and no I don't use whey protein. But I have been interested in a product that has had phenomenal success in Australia called "Isowhey".....I will answer your original questions as best I can in a little while. Hubby and my boys just walked in the door. And my hands are quite full.
    I've been using Warrior Whey by Defense Nutrition...all natural protein blend with grass fed cows whey no sugar added.
    Something I am doing is wrong...because my skin is wrinkling and sagging like crazy.  I don't know what I should do about calcium.  One minute I read that I should avoid supplementing it and avoid dairy...the next someone is saying to supplement calcium...sheesh...what's a girl to do?
    Also, I am all of a sudden going gray....diet?  or stress?
    Also, have always had very strong fingernails...all of a sudden they are snapping off left and right...what on earth am I doing to myself???  I'm clearly cutting out something or some things important to me....but what?
    Don't know what time or day it is in Australia...so Merry Christmas!
    Hello Luna,
    No,no...I'm not against the above supplements...or peoples choices. I just found it interesting, and thought we should all take a better look at what we're consuming. It seems that our supplements are a mixture of natural and synthetics.
     You see when I was first diagnosed...I went the gun shot treatment. My pantry and fridge were literally bursting at the seams, with supplements. I ended up having severe diarrhoea FOR 4 MONTHS! I had four lots of stools...er, um runny stuff...sent out to be examined and my doctor said that they couldn't find anything wrong with me. I realized I was consuming a plethora of supplements/nutrients that my body simply had an abundance of. My mother and father decided that they should intervene and give me a bit of a wakeup call. "Did we not teach you anything"...were their exact words. My gut flora was out of whack! That's when I discovered a living probiotic food called passiflora. It literally cured me by the next day.
     I was already taking microalgaes...I didn't need half the supplements I was buying. I take natural rosehip powder/caps...extremely rich in vitamin C, and I also grow my own fruit. So I did not need to take extra vitamin C.  I do take resveratrol...and grape seed extract....but when my father's muscadine grapes are in season...I don't take those supplements for about 3-4 months-. I no longer take magnesium, calcium, iodine, because the sea air I absorb on a daily basis and certain foods I take already supply me with these elements/nutrients. I don't buy man made probiotics, I personally prefer fermented food drinks, such as passiflora that have living probiotics in them. That's my personal preference. I also take Kakadu juice...which is jam packed with all natural nutrients. I am obsessed with sulphur...which I have blathered about in another thread. I also take a sulphur bath once a week. My skin is so youthful. I only use coconut oil from the waist down and on my arms. I use natural skin food based creams and I add a couple of drops of rosehip oil and smooth it over my face , décolletage, and boobies.  I could go on and on...about the things I do.
    Lets say I make a salad....for example last night's salad had beetroot leaf, cos lettuce, kale, broccolini, silverbeet, tomato, cucumber...all finely chopped and homegrown. Who needs a multivitamin pill...when you can "naturally" consume foods that are sooo rich in vitamins?
    By all means, try the algae...do your research. Make sure you try to find one that is pure...like the Hawaiian brand. I do soo much more...but that is because it suits me, personally. It really is a personal choice...I can't stress that enough!
    You could try growing certain vegetables...and only supplementing half the nutrients you currently consume.  Or you could tell me to bugger off...and stay with your current protocol.
    It's your decision to make.
    Have a Merry Xmas...x
    Victoria
    PS... Vivre mentioned that USANA has high quality nutritional supplements - you might want to look into it.
    Hi there natural girls.
    I'm looking forward to going through this thread and reading what you've all been up to with complimentary options.
    I'm heading into chemo next week and saw a naturopathic doctor this week to try to plan ahead a bit. So we talked a lot about diet, but I still feel like I could learn more.
    I've usually eaten pretty healthy... but there's always more to learn, especially when it comes to all the details what to eat when on chemo vs when not on chemo, etc.
    I'm also hoping to learn more about natural products -- I'm ER+ so I'm just about to toss all my favorite "natural" bubblebath products and creams.... because I just noticed they all have parabens in them! argh.
    Anyway... looking forward to learning from you all...
    :-)
    Victoria-I am envious that you live in a place where you have access to sea air and can garden more that 3 months of the year. And your country might have more nutrients in the soil than we have in the US. Ours are so depleted, too many people to feed,  and so full of chemicals that they have been able to prove the nutritional value of our foods is getting less and less, year by year. In winter, we have to import our veggies so heaven knows what has been sprayed on them and how much they are radiated to get past the FCC. In a nutshell, it would be impossible to get the kind of nutrition you can for most Americans. That is why I rely on high quality supplements. I know they work, because my blood tests have improved and I feel fantastic. I have simplified my intake since Usana has so many combinations that I was taking separately before. I tried all kinds of other brands, and some of the types of things you mention from health food stores, but I could never trust them. How do we know the algaes are not full of mercury since our seas are so polluted? I totally agree with coconut oil. I have been using it for almost 3 years and I love the stuff. However, as I mentioned, it revs my energy levels so I cannot use it before bed. It is the only cooking oil I use and I only use olive oil on my salads.
    Merry Christmas everyone and have a blessed New Year. Time to get cookin. . .
    Victoria...I would never tell you to buggger off...I am so very interested in all you know and all the things you have chosen to do and take.
     I'm getting ready to go to church and then its Christmas, so I will get back to this later.  I think I do take too  many supplements and would like to find a better, more natural way and have many more questions for you.  I still have so much to learn and am in desperate need of streamlining and refining my nutrition plan.
    I have learned so much from so many here and want all the advice I can get.
    I've had some trouble growing my own veggies as the deer eat everything!  And I am not well versed on what and when to grow things yet...have a long way to go on growing my own....so for now I need to rely on buying organic.
    Anyway...I'll get back to this after all the relatives go back home:)
    Merry Christmas to all!
    Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I am loving the snow. It was so quiet Christmas eve. Just as it should be.
    I just ordered coconut oil from a new source. I will let you know what I think of it. I am testing it as a possible sponsor for my website. You need to make sure it is cold pressed, and as unprocessed as possible.
    Coconut Oil
    I have been using Organics Coconut oil body lotion and since I read recent posts about unrefined organic coconut oil I bought some to try.
    I just lathered some on and I smell like a coconut macaroon! Did I buy the right one, I wonder? I bought Spectrum Organic  unrefined Coconut Oil. As soon as I opened the jar, I could smell freshly baked coconut macaroons!!
    I use Omega Nutrition brand here in Canada - it's pure unrefined organic coconut oil. I've been using it for about 2 weeks and just love it! I slather it on my hands  a couple of times a day and it makes then feel and look great. I'm also putting it on my face although I have to stay away from my nose area because I did get a couple of blemishes ...not sure, but it may be a bit too greasy for that area but the rest of my face feels soft and smooth.
    I cook with coconut oil, eat it and use it in smoothies. I use it as a lip balm and on my hands, no problem but I have tried using it as a full body moisturizer after I shower and I get a rash on my torso and a prickly itchy feeling on my legs. I am against using something I wouldn't eat so I have tried using it more than once but still get the same reaction.  Lotions dont seem to have the same effect.  Has anyone else had this kind of reaction. I currently have Nutiva brand organic cold pressed coconut oil. I cant remember the brand I tried before this one. I think it might have been Dr Christopher's or something like that.
    I probably wouldn't be using coconut oil if it made me smell like a coconut macaroon... I actually hate anything that smells overtly coconutty or tropical (like suntan lotion). I use Garden of Life organic extra-virgin coconut oil... it doesn't really leave a smell at all.
    impositive, that's weird... I had a little zit or two pop up when I've used it on my face like Terri did, but nothing like what you described. Maybe try a different brand and see if it does any better?
