MBJ - wow - thanks for that link. I've been steering away from "industrial organic" food anyway and prefer locally-produced organic food where I know the farmer and know he's not pulling any funny business, and something like this just confirms it.
Vivre, the author of that article includes links to sources/verification of every fact -- did you click through to the links?
I have to say, in my journey researching all this for the past year+, I've become something of a conspiracy theorist myself in some ways, or as my husband says, a conspiracy realist. One example is what you mentioned re: George Soros and the EWG. Some might call that "conspiracy nonsense," but the facts are there!

Mbj- great link- this is frightning, how is it that the fda allows food, cosmetics, lotions etc,, put labels on our products that we dont understand? If we cant understand it we shouldnt be using it, im wondering what we can do to make sure that every product we use, use words that we know and understand. i say it is time we stand up and fight the goverment on this, what can we do? Any ideas?

A quick question and a ongoin mental challenge for me as i am again trying to determine if in menopause does ovaries still produce estrogen? My BS,OBGYN and ONC.. all very good and respected in their fields but always fear based in their cancer talk.. having a BRCA 1 mutation , they want my ovaries out. Long term health issues concern me and yet am I playiong russian roulette with a higher risk for ovarian? I am online looking at all i can in the meantime.Woke up in middle of night, and just bothers me overall to do this and that voice within I trust the most!!I trust this forum second! Makes me wonder, is it ever enough in this jounrey. There has to be some validity in knowing what is good for me and my body. Taking something out of me for the what if's just dows not sit right for me.
Would taking a second BRCA gene test be prudent?
Thanks for listening and any imput so appreciated in advance!!
Happy New Year wishes!

Donna-before you have your innards gutted, I really wish you would try to see my hormone doc. She is not to far from you, in south Naperville across from Fox Valley Mall. She is no lightweight. She went to Harvard and Northwestern, but she totally thinks outside the box. She is a traditionally trained internist, and she has treated bc survivors. She is going to do a seminar with me this month, as soon as I can get a free venue. She will explain how it is not estrogen that is the danger. It is the inbalance of hormones. When progesterone or estriol is lacking, those receptor sites are filled with estradiol, the only hormone that receives cancer cells. Getting rid of all the hormones is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Dr. Rashid does continuous, testing to make sure hormone levels stay balanced and optimum. Read her book, and also the doctors Suzanne Somers interviews in Breakthrough and Knockout to learn more. You need a specialist on the endocrine system, not a doctor who specializes in delivering babies or treating cancer before you make such a big decision.
DesignerMom-There was a Canadian parliament member who was so ticked that athletes like Ben Johnson were losing their medals, that he thought it was time someone started to evaluate supplements for purity. He got some doctors and scientists together and began to compare 500 different supplements on almost 20 different criterion, from absorbililty to components. His team now analyzes almost 2000 different supplements in the Nutrisearch Compative Guide to Nutrional Supplements.. The one that that has won their gold standard award since the beginning was Usana Essentials. This was the icing on the cake for my decision to only use Usana now. They are a bit higher priced, but their combinations mean I take less pills, and I do not have to hit or miss with different brands like I had been doing for 2 years, and watching my blood tests go up and down. For instance, I was taking 6000 iu of different brands of Vit. D. After a whole year on Metagenics, which my doctor touted, it finally got up into the 80's, where I want to keep it. But I did not want to keep buying Metagenics if it was that slow to work, so I tried a couple of other brands, like Carlson's which is touted as being great, and the next year I tested and my numbers plummeted to 43. So I went on only 4000 iu of Usana Essentials and after 6 weeks, Usana offered a free test, and my numbers were back up to 86. Supplements are useless if they do not do what they say they will.
Here is another test, put your antioxidant in a glass of water with an apple slice. Look at it in 48 hours. With Usana antioxidant the apple will still be healthy, no oxidation. Some other brands, like Centrum will actually turn the apple black. They use petroleum to bind their tablets. Usana uses olive oil.
Julia-I know what you mean about all the conspiracy theories. That is why I try to dig deep for answers. That blogger is talking about chemtrails from airplanes. Chemtrails have been around since airplanes were invented. They are not some govt. plot to poison us. Jet fuel itself is toxic so what can we do about it, ground all planes? And the trails will appear when air temps are right. To me that goes along with the same crazies who said the US govt purposely flew planes into the twin towers to start a war. That is just sick. I just think that if this chemical was in our food, Mike Adams would be writing about it. He seems to be up on everything. I stopped checking Mercola because I have met some folks who use to work with him and he takes credit for what others do. Plus, when I saw him at the Health and Freedom Expo, he was prancing around like a peacock.
I hope you are all trying to plan your trip to the Expo in June. You will love it!

vivre- Thank you for the great info on supplements. As always, you are a wealth of good information. As Usana is sort of a multi level marketing model, how can I buy them? Can I get them online through the company? On a different subject. I got my trampoline. How long do you bounce each day?
0 -
Li, Thank you for the recipe...can't wait to try it tonight and have hot steel cut oatmeal in the morning with no waiting. I do appreciate your quick response. On the question about affordable supplements...I use Puritain's Pride and Swanson, both online, not sure how they compare with the above mentioned Usana. I have not had my blood work repeated since beginning all of mine. I'm due for that at the end of this month. Guess I'll know if I'm absorbing all I'm taking after the results come back. Thank you to all of you who post here...I learn new things...And about getting a new bra...my insurance company paid for 6 new custom fit bras for me...seems that when Bill Clinton was president he signed a bill stating that all breast cancer patients must be provided with 6 bras each year and that their insurance company had to pay their portion. Please look into this...I was told about it by the cancer center where I had my MammoSite treatments. It sure did help me financially as well as comfort wise...I still hate wearing a bra, but when I have to at least I have some that fit..and one is a sports bras for when I exercise. Thought this info may help someone.

Thanks Vivre.. I will PM you for info. I have read most of suzanne'as books and inclduding the recent one released. I was on bio's for years prior to BC and felt great and then for some reason all stopped working for me. The surgery would of been lapascopic and yet does it matter what kind!!Goin to this seminar also is something I need to do when it is formed.
Designer Mom..start your trampoline at 5 min intervals and work up from there. I do 15-20 mins depending daily but know you probably could do more!
0 -
Donna- What does the trampoline do? We have one in our backyard, and if it's beneficial, I can certainly spend some time jumping on it! My kids would love that....
Lili, thanks for the recipe. I have been meaning to try Steel Cut Oats as part of my gluten free diet. Do you have a good brand you like to use?
DesignerMom- I can vouch for regular supplementation with vitamins. I've increased my energy tenfold by taking mine regularly. Unfortunately, I also get a bit wigged out if I don't take them as well.... forgot to take on my vacation last week (just gone 2 days) and I worried about how my body was going to cope without magnesium!! Yes, a bit OCD, I guess. Good for you that you're making it a priority in 2011.
Vivre- I am sceptical when viewing a lot of information, but ever more so when it's presented to me in a "news format", for some reason. It's too bad that I've gotten so jaded, but I am always questioning what corporation or entity stands to profit when I see a news release about any healthcare / supplement/ legislation these days. What a way to live!?! I almost wish I was in "the dark", but c'est la vie!!

Marainna....The rebounder/trampoline is for draining your lymphatic system!! A way also to get those toxins out of you!!! AND for me, the start of the bouncing at 5 mins was hard!!!lolol. and I work out!!! 15 mins a day is ideal for what my chiro Dr. told me!!! GOOD jumpimg wishes!!!!0
-
Marianna-the problem with most news stories these day is that they just give you all the same headlines, fed to them from news agencies. There are no reporters anymore. They are all regurgitators.
And-As Donna said, the trampoline is the best exercise you can do for the lymphatic system. I try to jump everyday for at least 20 minutes. I also do all my crunches sitting on it, and do a lot of ballet bar type exercises for balance and core strength. I use a Needak rebounder. It is so much fun and I have not become bored with it after almost 2 years of jumping.
Irish-I never heard about the free bras, but I guess they only give them to those who have had mastectomies. I don't wear bras much anymore anyway. I just use camis. They are more comfortable and since I lost have of one breast, and losing weight, there is not much there anyway. Besides, letting them bounce is also good for their health.

I know this is a bit political but I was reading about how they are now fazing out incadescent light bulbs. Talk about a health hazard! You need a hazmat suit if one of the mercury bulbs break and what is going to happen when people start dumping all these old bulbs into the garbage and the mercury starts seeping into our soil and water? Can you imagine how bad it is to have mercury from a broken bulb swimming around your kitchen with toddlers and pets in the house? Another thing is that the old bulbs were made in the USA. The new ones come from China. It seems that the enviromental costs of importing and mining all that mercury, will "offset" any carbon footprint nonsense. What a scam this whole thing is. The black market is going to soar for incandescents because the truth is, no one can see a damn thing with those curly fry bulbs. They are useless. And my eyes are already bad enough (in case you haven't noticed my penchance for typos).
0 -
Vivre, I think you may be onto something with those "curly" bulbs. I thought it was just me.
I can't think clearly if they are the only source of light. Can they have a neurotoxic effect or something?
Our vetrinarian uses those bulbs and I had to ask him to repeat the instructions for the cat medicine at least three times. I felt like an idiot. He was saying words like "give the cat two pills three times a day with food." Finally he wrote it down for me.
When I got outside his office in natural light, my brain started working again.
My integrative doc has special light bulbs throughout the office. I don't know what they are but everybody is so cheerful there. Maybe one of the other natural gals would know what the good bulbs are.

I have been hoarding incandescent bulbs for over a year. I think I have enough to last me for 20 years. Maybe I can start my own black market. Or maybe they will start a new "Hoarders: incandescent Light Bulbs".
0 -
A few years ago I realized they were going to phase out incandescents for those nasty fluorescent, mercury-filled bulbs. Aside from the obvious environmental hazard, the light is dreadful and ugly. My interior designer friend is in a panic. She says soon all her interior designer friends will be dealing incandescent bulbs like drugs "I'll give you a 60 watt if you give me two 40 watts". She decorated a huge celebrity home in Beverly Hills. This celeb was friends with Ed Norton, who is a big environmentalist. Norton made him switch all the bulbs to those mercury ones. When my friend returned for another consult she screamed "ahhhhhh what happened? I feel like I am in a garage!" As we have been talking SO often about stupid, government regulations. Who came up with this law without looking into the long-term disposal problems for mercury-filled bulbs?
0 -
I read the article linked above also and found the information very disturbing. I'm reserving judgement until I see more information come forth. Clearly, this neotame product has no place in organic foods. And even if it's true that it has no labeling requirements, that doesn't equate to producers of organic and kosher foods rushing in to use this undesirable ingredient. I just can't help but wonder if the information is bogus, fed to people who will report on it, and ultimately result in shaking consumer confidence in organic foods.
As for the incandescent bulbs, I am very hopeful that they will continue. I don't like the quality of light produced by the compact flourescents, and I despise the idea of mercury laden products being foisted upon me. And even if I choose to not purchase these mercury filled bulbs, I don't live in my house 24/7. We all GO places, and we'll have no way of knowing where these bulbs have been broken. And even if every single bulb makes it to the landfill intact, what will become of our landfills? This is bad bad bad bad bad.
0 -
Althea-I thought the same thing about that article. Are they trying to scare people away from organics? As I said, wouldn't Mike Adams be reporting this? This is the whole reason we are stuck with S510. The premise is to protect us from unregulated organic food, but it is the Big Agra stuff that causes the problems. These new regulations will squeeze out the little guys and we will all be stuck with the mass produced and processed junk. As for the lightbulbs, it is the law now. It will be illegal to make or use them, so they are being phased out. Thank Al Bore and his global warming hoax for that. It was all part of the Chicago Climate Exchange where they were making millions selling those carbon footprint offsets. How do you think Gore was able to build that 20,000 sf house? Did you know that the CCE silently closed recently. The smucks took their money and ran when they could no longer get people to go along with their hoax. Obama was one of the major cogs in the CCE wheels and that is why he kept talking about these damn bulbs during the election, and we now have this stupid law on the books. Our only hope that enough people can't read their newspapers anymore that they revolt and this thing gets repealed.
And yes, mathteacher, you are not imagining the affect these bulbs have on your brain. People have been warned not to sit under these lights for long periods of time. We know for a fact that mercury affects the brain. That is why there is the link to the mercury from innoculations for children and autism. That is why we need to get the mercury out of our mouths and be very careful about eating fishoil with mercury or big fish like tuna or swordfish that are loaded with the stuff.
Back to getting my Christmas decorations put away.

Hi Ladies,,,,
I am not good about just " lurking" so I felt it necessary to say hello LOL... Our girl Terri reminded me about this thread. I am going to get on Bioidentical Hormones soon. Hopefully within a few weeks. I am VERY happy I got the AOK from my oncologist too.
Anyway.... I will be reading here... learning from you all and with you all! thank you for this thread!

Hey... one more thing... can any of you direct me to what page here, on this thread, I might find listings of the supplements many of you take?
I take about 8 daily... and I want to check to see if any new ones are out there for us.... or even just us HER2+ gals. I did find the study on EVOO and Avocado oil interesting. I have used both these for about ten yrs.. daily... and am still a Her2+ gal..... I will still continue to use the oils though... as I love the flavor. Thanks for posting that.

I've dug a bit more on Barbara Petersen (she's on FB) and FarmWars (the blog the article on Neotame appeared in), and so far I don't get the feeling that she's disseminating bogus information to scare people from eating organic, although I don't question for one minute that that does happen.
Here's a link to the page that article came from, which is full of anti-government & anti-big corporations writings, all relating to farming and food. http://farmwars.info/ Maybe I'm naive or missing something here, but her pieces and those of others on this page all seem aimed at exposing bad government and corporate policies. Now, I suppose it's entirely possible that she's been given misinformation about Neotame by some anti-organic interest in the hopes that she would write about it. But I don't suspect any covert motive on her part to damage public trust in organics. Deanna

Laura, I would try to read this thread from the beginning but if you want a quick start you can go to page 92 or thereabouts to find out what some of the girls are taking. You can also go to the "Supplements: chart for which to take w/ food vs. without?" thread to see when to take the supplements. Fairy49 is our hormone replacement version of the Breast Whisperer and if you PM her I'm sure she can give you some advice.
Terri

Yes, Fairy is GREAT ! She used to be on EC quite a bit! She is on my FB too...:)... she is the one who got me on the 8 supplements I take now. After some educating me on her part... I picked out what was best for me. I did however, forget she was the hormone gal too! I will get with her..... She lives by our Breast Whisperer too.... remember the photo of them on EC about a year or so ago...:)....
I wish I had the time to read all the pages here. I will look back at the page you have directed me to... and TRY to read every page here... taking notes..... over the next few weeks... hopefully to finish by the end of Jan.... we'll see...lol
thanks Terri!

Is tuna fish bad to eat?
0 -
I just caught part of a really good interview on XM Doctor Radio with Dr. Ricki Pollycove, a women's health specialist who also writes for the Huffington Post. Here's a link to her most recent HP article:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ricki-pollycove-md/hormone-replacement-therapy_b_797579.html
And here's her website: http://drricki.com/
The reason I'm mentioning this is, she said that believes hormone balancing prevents breast cancer, even in women who are BRCA positive; and she mentioned consulting with women from all of the country. I don't know if you have to go and see her in person, or if she might possibly consult by phone, although she did mention doing extensive bloodwork to determine what each woman needs. But I thought I'd pass her name along. She may also be a resource to find a like-minded woman's health specialist wherever you live. DonnaDio, I thought she might be someone with valuable input for your pressing concern.
Claire, I think better quality tuna (like Trader Joe's own brand) is okay in moderation, by which I mean like once a month. I would not personally eat any of the cheap or budget brands due to a concern for excessive mercury, as well as just general purity. Here's a link to a really good website recommended by UCLA: http://www.whfoods.com/ You can search for facts about tuna or any other foods about which you have a concern. Deanna

Claire82- Tuna is high in mercury, as are all fish higher up in the food chain. The Japanese in Taiji are killing the dolphins there and trying to market it as safe. Google the movie 'The Cove' and you will learn much. They even put it childrens school food...sickening their poisoning their own children. Two city council members in Taiji spoke out against this, and I believe the school lunch program was stopped. They are still killing the dolphins and selling the meat elsewhere, labeling it as from another source.

I heard Dr. Huggins speak at the Health and Freedom Expo last year. He is the Dentist who has been the whistle blower about toxic mercury. He is to dentists what Suzanne Somers would be for some of us. He was vilified and lost his liscense early on for daring to speak out. He has since been vindicated as his research shows more and more links with root canals, mercury fillings and disease, especially breast cancer. His book, Uninformed Consent is a must read. Anyway, after the lecture, I asked him the tuna question. He looked at me like I was nuts. He said, if you have had breast cancer, you should not be eating any fish! Well, I love fish, and I cannot give it up completely so I just eat it on occasion and I stick to the small fish as they absorb less toxins. Then I take an extra dose of my hepasil. I also asked him about implants following a root canal. Again he look at me as if I was crazy, and he said, implanting any foreign object into your mouth is setting up a place for bacteria to thrive.
So that is from the horses mouth.

I'm currently reading Slow Death by Rubber Duck. Two male authors conducted a series of experiments on themselves to measure the chemical results on their bodies before and after. The 'tuna experiment' was very simple. No tuna for 6 weeks prior. Then 3 days of tuna for lunch and tuna for dinner. I don't have the book right here with me, but the results of just 3 days of eating tuna created an astonishing leap in mercury levels.
The book also talks about the origins of the American Dental Association back in the 1800s. Mercury use for dental applications was outlawed in France back then, so this one guy moves to New York and starts a dental practice there using mercury. There was opposition to his methods. So this guy became the founder of the ADA and somehow gained legitimacy for his methods. Lucky us, huh. The American Medical Association has similar origins.
I never had a cavity until I got to college. ...sure wish I could say today that I've never had a cavity.

Althea,
I just learned a few years ago that a cavity is an infection. In some cultures cavities are unknown.
Weston A. Price has some great photos of older people around the world. He also has pictures of their children who moved to the cities where processed foods and sugar were available. The children's teeth look awful. The parents' teeth were really beautiful.

I understand why tuna would be bad for us but I don't understand why we should not be eating any fish. I never eat farm raised. I love salmon and cod. WTH?

I certainly share the concern re. mercury, and, in fact, had my mercury fillings removed many years ago.
Here's an interesting chart that the integrative doctor @ UCLA had given me at one time. It shows fish to avoid due to higher mercury content, as well those to avoid for ecological reasons:
http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=1540
I noticed there's also a Health Alert about tuna: http://www.edf.org/article.cfm?contentID=7682

Claire: A dr told me to substitute canned, wild salmon for tuna--Whole Foods has the best but Trader Joes is okay, too. I use it just like I would Tuna, and I now prefer it.
Vivre: I would have a really hard time giving up seafood and fish, too! Yes, Mercury is an issue, but many sellers now post where the fish comes from and which fish are the healthier to eat. I cannot imagine giving it up!
Thanks Deanna!
