vivre, your mercury teeth had infection under them also?  I have 6 but wanted to take care of the root canal first because I knew there was infection there.  I haven't gone into detail about the amalgams with my dentist yet, he just knows I want that to be the next step.   How do they clean out the infection under those? Do they remove the amalgam, clean it out and re-fill it the same day?  My post nasal drip isn't completely gone but definitely diminished.

designermom- the theory is that all root canals have bacteria buildup/infection beneath, as I understand it, and therefore compromise the immune system. I had a molar pulled, and yes, it is kind of an issue. It's harder to chew than it was before, and I'm an even slower eater than I used to be. And I assume getting a fake tooth would be the same as a root canal interms of trapping bacteria, so I think it's just the way it has to be for me... But if it really was doing all this to me, it's worth it. And I'm adjusting- it's much better now than the first month or 2 and maybe someday it'll seem fine. But sometimes my jaw gets tired when I eat a lot of really chewy things. I guess it's a good thing I don't eat meat!

ETA- I'm gald I joined this thread, I find all this fascinating! It's exciting to me to have people to discuss these things with!

impostive--yes they clean them out and my dentist did some extra gridding to make sure all was removed and then filled with the new stuff.  My dentist has put a plan together for the order that she wants to replace the amalgam.  I have alot of old fillings and we are replacing all of them.  I have finished half but then was dc so the other half will have to wait awhile.  Hopefully by the end of this year I get back on it.

MariannaHB-Where do you live in Texas?  I am an hour south of Austin.  I find that HEB plus has better prices than Whole Foods and Central Market and has alot of gluten free products available.  Also the larger HEB's are now carrying Natural Beef and Chicken, no hormones etc. My DH is allergic to wheat so we have to do the gluten free in our house.  I also have some good sources on-line for all the special flours and have a great cookbook that I found on line for the recipes.  Is their a SunHarvest near you?  It is alot like Traders Joes but a little smaller.  I have been to Traders Joes when visiting my DS in Seattle.

SherryC- I'm in the DFW area, so we unfortunately don't have HEB here. We do have Central Market, but it's another high dollar shopping experience. I'll look for SunHarvest... haven't seen one, but that doesn't meant here isn't one around here somwhere. I did hear that HEB was considering expansion into this market, and I sure hope they do. I do sometimes shop at Fiesta, and they seem to have a good section for GF/International foods, but the prices are really no better than WF.

Wanted to ask you ladies if you have experience with Rosmarinu Officinalis drops. My nutritionist gave them to me last week, but have been a little chicken to try them.... would love some real life experience before I give it a try.

Designermom, you asked,  Is there a way they can determine if they are infected before pulling them?

My root canal took place when I was around 12 or 13 years old but they didn't put a crown on it. Three years ago the dead tooth started to break off so a dentist recommended I cap it.  After that is when I started to really feel fatigued and two years after the cap....BC.  My current dentist x-rayed my (root canal) tooth, against my protests, he said it was necessary, not so sure that it was....Anyway, he said it looked good on the x-ray, that it didnt appear to have infection and it looked as if whoever did the work, did a good job.  After he removed the roots he commented, "Wow...Well, I can see why you've been fatigued."  It was rotten looking (black) and had infection growing all over it.   So my roots looked very normal upon x-ray but when it came out, there was no mistaking that it was riddled with infection.  I asked about the bc relationship and he said he's very sure that it played a major role.

Sherryc, I know! I had no pain or indication at anytime over the years until recently... my gum above the tooth had become abscessed.  I thought at Thanksgiving, I may have gotten food particles up in there but after seeing the infected root, the dentist said it had just traveled along the root to the gum line and was presenting itself.

I don't contribute much to this thread.... but read and learn daily. I wanted to give a good report to anyone thinking about using either ALMOND or GRAPESEED oil on their skin and hair daily instead of whatever cream you use.

I have been using both daily on my skin ( all of it...face too... as I am dry).... and my hair ( about a  nickels worth.... as I am a Salon owner by day.. and LOVE hair oil on my dry hair..) for about two weeks. I always give a new product some time to fail....LOL

I am very happy and impressed. My skin feels so nice...and looks about 10 yrs younger.. NO JOKE... it just is so much smoother.. and NOT DRY...YAY! My hair feel like my granddaughter hair.... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO soft.

I scrunch my hair to bring out the curl... and use a diffuser.......... or............ blow it out straight and use a flat iron.... both ways.... the oils make my hair look great and FEEL.... like I said... like my 3 yr old granddaughters....:)

So... there is my contribution to the thread............... Smile

Now I will sit back and learn learn learn from you all...........:)

When I start on Bio-identicals... I will post on that.

Laura that is good to know about almond and grapeseed oil.  I just purchased unrefined coconut oil the other day and tried it on my face for the first time today and really like it.  Was not greasy and soaked right in.  Guess I was dryer than I thought.  Have not tried it on my hair.  Picked up the tip here on this thread.  There have been so many great tips since I have been reading.  Thanks to all of you who have posted. I may have to try the almond oil on my hair as I have a perm and using curling iron, also my grey hair looks like wire and I have always had straight baby fine hair.  Getting older is hard on the body.

Hey Laura glad to see you on this thread! Thanks for the tip..I'll  have to look into that. Does the almond or grapeseed oil make the hair greasy? I'm sure it's great for the hair especially with all the things we do to our hair to dry it out like blow dry, flat iron etc. Like Sherry, I just started using coconut oil on my face and just love it.

Any news on when  you are going to start the bio - identicals?

I am using about a nickel size Terri, on my hair.... and since it is dry by nature ( curly hair) it does not make it greasy at all........ it replaces all my other styling oils.

I have not made any progress on the hormones....... so far... my doctor( my PCP... not my onco.. HE IS ON BOARD but cannot do this part of my care...grrrrrrrrrrrr.... wish he could)  is not on board... and I am trying to get a doctor who is.... so that I can start them SOON ! I will let everyone know as soon as I know.... xxxooo

I can relate to your conversation about diet. I was on a yeast free diet in September and October. For Thanksgiving through Christmas I gave myself permission to eat all the fun and comfort foods. I got hooked again on sugar. I'm now trying to transition back to a no sugar diet. So hard. I'm really board with just veggies, meat and nothing else. Now I hate eating. I feel so hungry without the starches (rice and potatoes & breads:( I'm also feel weak or faint...feel like I'm not just starving the cancer, but starving myself)

I lost 26 pounds from May to the end of October. I was 156, got down to 133 and I'm 5'8" ... I'm so glad I'm finally gained over the holidays and I'm now 139 pounds...so fearful with the anti-sugar starch diet in losing weight. But with my new cancer dx (invasive, on the good breast) I need to be careful not to feed the cancer. Also want to build up my immune system before the surgery.

We use coconut oil for everything...I'm afraid I'm growing an aversion to it...loved it.

Barry I know what you mean about sugar.  I had eliminated it out of my diet and over the holidays splurged just a little bit and then someone gave me a bag of chocolates which my husband had to open and now I want them out of my house.  I should never have eaten that piece of piece Christmas day now I just crave sweets.  I have done pretty good about not eating them but before the pie I was no longer craving them. urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh

Add me to the list of people who took a nose-dive with sugar over the holidays. I added a few instances of wheat back into my life just for good measure, and I've paid for it! Big time....

Thanks to all for the recommends for oils (coconut, grapeseed, et al). I love the coconut and will try grapeseed next. I am also using Apricot Kernel Oil, but am a bit distressed to see that it converts to a cyanide type substance in the body!?! That's what I read about the Apricot Kernels people ingest, but I have to assume that it would absorb transdermally as well. It's too bad, because it makes my skin look AMAZING.  But coconut oil is great as well, love the sheen it gives my skin and it feels really soft too.

Anyone tried Nature's Plus Source of Life vitamins? I just took the NINE (yes, you read that correctly) caps this morning and now waiting to see how it affects me!

I finally went to a naturopath and got all these recommendations. Please let me know what you think.

Vessel care - to increase B12

EPA-DHA720 - this is fish oil - not sure i want to take this

Ultra flora 1b - this is a probiotic

    cortico b5b6

    green tea

    mushrooms

    D - 5000

    coQ10

mycotaki - medicinal mushrooms? i think i'll skip this one

    magnesium

What do you all think? I feel like a pill popper.

Before BC, all i took was my armour thyroid.

I have heard so much about the grapeseed oil....I will have to try it!  The coconut oil seems a bit heavy for my face most of the time.  I have used almond oil (and other nut oils, such as kukui nut) in the past.  I liked them a lot, except that when my towels and clothes came out of the dryer, there was a distinct "rancid oil" smell that I could not live with.  To my delight, the coconut oil seems to have no such problem!  yay!

    Claire-

I have a nutritionist I work with, and a few of the things on your list stand out as real life-savers for me.

The magnesium (I take glycinate) has helped me tremendously with sleep, mood, nerves (used to get tingling in my toes and fingers), IBS-D, and overall sense of well being. This is one that I think everyone should take, mainly because magnesium in our soils has been depleted and is not being replaced. There is no commercial fertilizer which contains magnesium. If you find one, let me know. Our veggies and fruits have less and less magnesium each year.

I take Fish Oil, mainly for it's anti-inflammatory effect, but it also helps me with mood (sensing a trend here? I was an anxious type A prior to BC), as well as a nice secondary effect on my skin-less dry, more supple.

B supplement- I take one as well, though mine is a B-complex sublingual. Apparently it is difficult to absorb B vitamins in  your stomach, as acids will destroy it. I take a dropper full each morning, and it keeps my energy levels up. It's water soluable, to it needs to be replaced every day. I do a lot of sport/exercise so this one is crucial for me.

Probiotic- I take an acidophilus / probiotic supplement, but mine is mainly for the case of IBS-D I had prior to my introduction to magnesium and vitamin D. I had such a weak digestive tract that I was getting every single stomach bug my kids brought home, and even picking some up on my own. Knock on wood, haven't had a stomach bug since last May. It's said that your second immune system is your gut, so if you need the help, this is a good way to bolster your gut immunity. The good thing is, once you "cultivate" some of these cultures in your body, they are with you, unless they get wiped out with antibiotics, so this can be a supplement you take only occasionally. (or at least that is how I view it... your doc may say something else)

Green tea- the reports are positive for BC. I am attempting to drink more green tea, but it's hard for me because I am very sensitive to caffeine and cannot seem to give up my coffee (a joy in life). So I might move to a supplement since I don't consume tea regularly.

Just my thoughts on what you've been given. Hope this helps you make a decision on what you want/need to take. For me, supplements have turned my health and life around. I don't want to stay on all of them forever, but now I am building a good base for my body. I figure in another 6 months, I might rework my vitamin routine and perhaps just maintain with a multi-vitamin.

You don't have to worry about the cyanine compound in apricot kernel oil... in apricot kernels, it's bound with two other substances that make it poisonous only to cancer cells, not to you. I eat raw apricot seeds almost every day for that reason, and no sign of cyanide poisoning whatsoever!

    Claire82,

I agree with MarianneHB, magnesium glycinate is best. Did your naturopath test your Vitamin D level before coming up with that dosage? You may need 10,000 to get up to the right blood level (80 in the US) then you can back off to 5,000 or less.

I also see Iodine and Melatonin are missing from the list. Those are the biggies!

Nice that he knows about mushrooms :) and CoQ10. Tho, Ubiquinol is more potent and cheaper than CoQ10.

Claire:  I also agree with Marianne--I take all of this including Iodoral and Melatonin.  I couldn't drink enough green tea so I also take Life Extension's Mega Green Tea Extract which is a really good one.  I also take Juice Plus daily vgi & fruit supplements to ensure that I get my five servings each a day.I take 8000 mg of Vit D3 and I am still only in the 40's when I get tested once every 3 months.  Our soils are depleted so we no longer get any of this in a natural diet.

Laura:  That is so great that the oils are working for you!  Glad to see you are still coming here--I learn so much from this thread.

    MBJ,

I got quite a caffeine jolt from the Life Extension product when I tried it a few years ago. I tried the decaf green tea capsules but I was told green tea needs the caffiene to work. I don't know if that is provable.

I was thinking of trying the active ingredient in green tea, EECG. I wonder if I could take that instead. Have you heard about this? I heard somebody speak at a conference about it but I'm drawing a blank about what she said.

Mollyann:  Wow, I have never felt anything form the green tea extract.  I just take 1 pill a day in the morning and that's it.  Of course I use to be a 2-5 cups of coffee a day before BC.  Half of what is in the LE product is EGCG but I have also heard that many things don't work as well without the natural combination of the foods or herbs they are derived from.

Suzanne-You hit the nail on the head about the almond oil and grape seed oil. I tried them for a while, but they do go rancid quickly. That is why I only use the coconut oil now.

Claire-I agree with molly. If you are already on armour, you definitely need to join the yahoo group and learn about iodine. I think it is the most preventative thing I take. Check out the iodine thread for all the links. The other, most powerful antioxidant is grape seed extract. I take mine with a vit c combo that Usana has. This is the same ingredient that others put in those icky drinks that they charge a fortune for and call reservatol, such as Mona Vie. I just hated the taste. And you definitely want to add fish oil. Just make sure you find one that is mercury free. Again, I have faith in the Usana brand, after I did a lot of "fishing" around with others for two years. Also, do not use the liquid fish oil and check the dates. It too can go rancid quickly.

Marianne-I checked the Nutrisearch Comparative Guide to Supplements. The Nature's Plus brand rate very low-mostly 1 or 2 out of 5. You all really need to get this book so you are not just taking stuff that has not been evaluated by a third party. I also have looked into the Juice Plus line, and I am not impressed. I do not see how taking a pill can be touted as replacing fruits and veggies. They do not give specific information about what vitamins and minerals are being supplemented. The whole idea that it is a food just seems nuts. Plus, they are lacking in the essential minerals like mag. and selenium and have no Vit D. They are not even listed in the Comparative Guide. Products that are incomplete are not even tested or are rejected for low ratings.

Also, I went to hear a nutritionist who follows the Kelley/Gonzalez protocol that Susanne Somers talks about, treating cancer with nutrition. He said that the digestive system is actually the first line of defense against disease, and the immune system is the backup. Food really is medicine. Keep that in mind, and it is easier to stay on course. And if you are having gut issues, use whatever digestive enzymes or probiotics you need to get you stomach functioning. If your digestion is not providing the cell nutritients you need, all the supplements in the world will not help.

I know some of you might think I am just pushing Usana, but I honestly tried to avoid them for over 2 years, because I did not feel it was worth the price. But I became so frustrated trying to get my blood tests to improve, and nothing was doing the trick. I was taking a ton of supplements. I finally switched and it is has made a huge difference. Because they have great combos, I actually take less pills, so I am spending about the same amount. Plus, I know they are working because my digestion is much better and my test scores are finally improving. I am going to do a complete blood panel soon so I can really compare. This week, I ran out of my Usana minerals and had to use my previous brand. I immediately got constipated.

If you are using LifeExtension, at least you are on the right track. They get high ratings on a lot of their products.
