Another way to rebound is set on a large exercise ball and just lightly balance up in down. (in front of the TV is a good place:) This is a great way to start or for those who have leg and feet issue like me due to neuropathy. Also Binny can tell you about great lymphedema cd's that work with repairing range of motion and chest wall muscles while working on your lymph system. This lady really knows her stuff.

Thanks for posting that. That is awesome research.

Hey Merilee! I was so thrilled to read that, just frustrating that they have to wait 2-3 years for trials to START aaaahhhh!! I always hoped stem cell research would be the key, and maybe it is, God we need a cure!! I pray daily......thats what I wish and pray for, screw winning the lottery!

I agree, money can't buy peace of mind. That article makes me feel very positive about the future. I also heard that they may be on the verge of a vacine for AIDS. God does answer prayer.
Has anyone read the book: "Breast Cancer, Beyond convention"? I saw it on a web sight today and will try to get it from the library.

Vivre, you made me smile about the size 6 from a 12 and the incident with your friend. I know that made your day. And Merilee you made me giggle too..."the couch"!
I have been enjoying the outdoors and started walking my dog again....I have a "gazelle" right in front of the TV (like you FlaLady), I didn't realize bouncing on a big ball was good for you....I just let the air out our big ball a few months ago...... but like "Cebula" Caroline, I struggle with the weight....I started gaining while on Tamoxifen....then I started picking up hours in the ER, and exercise became less of an option...and I am worn out after 8 hours in the ER....but I am helping with the bills, and the staff I work with have been wonderful...i really love my job.....
Munchy, I agree with you about milk, and I like icecream,

Merilee-your couch bouncing sounds like fun. At least we are old enough now that we do not have to worry about being yelled at for being so playful. That book sounds interesting. Let us know if you find it.
I did 25 min. on the rebounder tonight during Idol. They had on lots of great music so it was fun. Then I did 10 min of crunches on the balance ball, 10 min. of what I call ironing board ballet(I use the ironing board as my ballet bar), then ten min of free weights. And Chris won! Adam did not need to win, he will be marketble anyway, so the AI folks got two guys they can make a lot of money with. Anyway, the music is a great workout time, so I am not sure what I am going to do now! LOL

Thanks, vivre -- now we won't have to watch it in CA!

Oops, sorry to spoil it! Skip the first hour and just watch the second, Rod Stewart, Santana, and Adam and Chris did a great finale with Queen, so the last hour is definitely worth watching!

Actually, I'm glad to know. My DH hates that show, so no need to be glued to it now. I suppose if I'd clicked on Google News before it comes on here, I would have seen it there.
I see my onc tomorrow for the first time since he rx'd Femara (which he doesn't know I abandoned after 10 days), and I'm sort of dreading it. Not that I need to justify my decision not to take an A/I to him, but I feel I should be able to communicate my strong beliefs about why I want to try a natural route, and I'm guessing he will discount my opinion with an eye roll and probably shake his head like I'm making a very foolish decision. And, since he's the one with the medical degree and 25+ years experience in oncology, I know anything I say will probably be scoffed at. Oh, well; if he makes me too uncomfortable, I guess I'll look for another onc. Will keep you posted... Deanna

Vivre!!!! I have it DVR'd to watch tomorrow and was going to keep off the internet pages until then...oh well. It will still be fun to watch--I saw the beginning.
I'm off to get my cysts aspirated in the morning--woo hoo! (ugh) Wish me luck--there was one they wanted to 'check out', which of course threw me in a tailspin, hoping I was in preventative mode now...
'Night all!

You are not alone I see my Onc today as well and will tell her I am only taking 5 mg of Tamoxifen as opposed to the 20 she wanted. I will also tell her that I will start DIM and ween myself off the Tamoxifen. Good luck today. I will let you know my Onc's reaction.
Peace

Allie,
Good luck, let us know what they find. I wish Dr.s wouldn't say something looks suspicious until they're sure it's more than suspicious, after the test and when it turns out it really wasn't suspicious at all. Why worry people needlessly?

I would like to know what bran of DIM aothr people are taking. In looking at lables I see that some contain soy and some contain coloring and preservatives. Has anyone found a good one that they can recommend?

Merilee, I take the brand of DIM Lisa recommended, Bioresponse DIM, and it does have Soy. So I contacted the company. Here is my inquiry and their response:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
INQUIRY:
I am a breast cancer survivor and ordered my first bottle of DIM
recently, and just recieved today. My cancer was Estrogen receptor positive, and I've been told to avoid
Soy products because of this.I note that your DIM contains soy. Would you tell me HOW MUCH Soy? This
is of concern to me, obviously.I know there are other women out there like me...
Thanks for your help
-----------------------------------
Thank you for your inquiry. The phosphatidylcholine (PC) that is one of
the ingredients in the BioResponse Diindolylmethane complex is a deoiled
phosphatidylcholine enriched soybean lecithin, which contains no soy
estrogens.
Therefore, there is next to none of the isoflavone compounds typically
considered as "soy" in the product. Soy is only listed since the PC is
derived from soy oil.I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any
additional information.Regards,

For those of you smarter than me, does that then sound safe to you? It sounded okay to me... just checking in...

I have wondered about Lecithin. If this is okay for us to have that allows for many more products. I have read somewhere that it is ok but have not been able to confirm this with anyone. I will ask my ONC today.

Soybean oil is processed by using hexane. They can't get all the hexane out. Hexane is a byproduct of petroleum oil and gasoline. Soy lecithin has all the pollutants they spray on the soy while growing and also hexane because its used to breakdown the soy covering. They use a hexane wash. So I stay away from all products using soybean oil or soy lecithin.

Hi Everyone,
Wonderful thread about the Rebounder. My daughters use an old Pogo Stick we have had for years but considering the benefits I am going to purchase a newer one. I am also looking into the Chi Machine and the Circulation Machiine. Has anyone used one? They are supposed to help with circulation and improve the lymphatic systems ability to detox. Gaiam sells both but the Circulation Machine costs much less. Here is a link for a video. http://chi-machines.com/chimachine.html. I am also looking at the Balance Ball Chair since I spend so much time on the computer. I never thought about purchasing organic furniture and linens but I am going to look into it further. Some of the items are pricey but worth taking a look at.
As always,
Grace

I could not find any DIM without soy, that is why I stuck with the I3C. I like Lorraine's doctor's idea of alternating them. But I do know it works. Like Lorraine, my blood tests show that the hormone receptor numbers really improved by 50% after 6 months on I3C.

By the way, you all might be surprised at your onc's response. While her nurses really pressured me to go the drug route, when I told my onc I would not, she actually said that she wished I would but would support my wishes. When I asked her what that meant, she basically said she would "monitor" me. As I have said, I really like her but I could not see any reaon to be "monitored". I hate the whole cancer center experience so I have gone to doctors who can actually help me, not just monitor me. I kind of got the feeling that my onc thought what I was doing was good, but she could not encourage it. The whole litigation thing I suppose. Anyway, I have not been back to her.

I have also read/heard that spy lecithin is fine... for ER+ concerns anyway.

My Onc told me today that soy lecithin does not have phytoestogen in it ( did I spell that right?)

Found this thread and wow! a lot of info!! I was reading every label after being told to avoid soy and it seemed soybean oil or soy this or that is in everything! I asked my onc about that and she looked at me like I was crazy and said "oh no soybean oil is not the same thing as soy, you can eat that"...I am not as educated as most of you on a lot of this stuff but have always eaten pretty good and exercised and have always been thin...I remember after my 2nd c-section, the surgeon told me that I had no belly fat...so of course I was stunned when i was dx with bc. So the fat thing always has me wondering along with the sugar thing. I hear so many mixed reports from my docs and nurses and nutritionist. geez!!!
Hubby just ordered an inversion table but had me email my docs and ask about the lymph thing. So I emailed both my onc and PCP...onc said "Dear Kari,
I think it is fine. I am not sure what the limit is. I would follow the instructions but I would not due the max time if your arms are hanging down. Sounds interesting. Julie" and my PCPsaid "I would think you could, shortest possible time." We asked the PT I am seeing about one and he was all for it. Anyone else tried one?0 -
Well, my onc's reaction to my ditching the Femara absolutely blew me away! First, I had to wait in his office for about half an hour, so had plenty of time to eye the 14 medical degrees and certificates on his wall. In fact, I found myself counting them 3 times! So when he walks in and I tell him I haven't been taking the Femara because I had passed out, what does he say? "That's fine. It's just an additive to your treatment, but if you can't take it, that's fine." I then told him about what I was doing in its place, and he seemed most pleased about the exercise -- I'm assuming because he's probably seen the published studies for that. He also said that Evista, which my PCP recently prescribed pending an okay from him, was an excellent choice, but warned me that it also "blocks" estrogen -- which I know, but I don't think in the same way Femara does. We chatted for 20 mins., and in parting, when I commented that I was surprised at his reaction to my not wanting to take Femara, he said, "I could suggest you try one of the other A/I's, but there's no guarantee they will work and there's no guarantee they can't cause trouble. So don't worry; you'll be fine."
So, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me, as he was far more supportive than I ever imagined he would be. I wonder if my UCLA onc would have reacted the same way or been more insistent on trying a different A/I?
I also ran over to the lab and got more blood drawn for the in-depth estrogen test, and now I'm really enthused about seeing where I am with that and what progress I can make with diet, exercise and supplements.
Merilee ~ Did your onc say anything else today besides the info' you already shared about soy lecithin? Deanna

That was all. By that time I was quite annoyed with her and felt like I knew more about Tamoxifen than she did. There was a fellow as well and they both looked at me like I was out of my mind for ditching the Tamoxifen. The Onc asked if I would consider trying it again at 20mg and I said no. They both just stared at me for a long time and there was a very wierd silence. I think they were expecting me to fold and say yes. I told them I felt like I had a bad case of ADD. I also ask if any other patients had complained of cognative difficulties and they both said no. Then I read on the Tamoxifen sight that this is a side affect. MMMM....they both lost integrity in my eyes today.

Sorry they treated you like that, but I'm not surprised. The silence was probably because they just didn't have any convincing arguments to offer in favor or taking it. My onc may have reacted differently b'cuz I did have a serious reaction to Femara, so he probably didn't want to tell me to try it again or try another A/I and just possibly have something worse happen.
And, like you, I don't understand how oncs can so minimize or just ignore published SE's. Mine said he'd never heard of anyone passing out from Femara, but "fainting" is listed as a rare, but serious SE, and mentioned in every on-line drugstore type listing for it. So, obviously, I'm not the only woman to ever experience it.... Deanna

Thanks for the support and kind words.
Has anyone had any contact with CAM?
The national cancer institute just gave me thier web site

Deanna...good to hear the weight is lifted off. I felt the same way when I told my onc I wouldn't be taking Tamox...but he said, "Fine, let me know if you change your mind." I meet with him June 3 for my first three month follow-up!

Deanna, that is wonderful, that you onc was so receptive....I had the same fear, and my onc didn't try to talk me into other hormonal treatment, but suggested that I was cured already and that if the cancer did recur that hormonals would be a good option plan....that was in March too. you are doing so well...thank the Lord for such an understanding doctor!
Merilee, so sorry that your doctors didn't understand. You probably know more than they do...we many times we all feel like we are our own best advocate.....you know your bodies response to medicines more than any doctor....hang in there. hope the CAM search goes well, I live in a small town and have limited resources as well as limited money to cover those kind of expenses...let us know what you find out.
