Deanna: I'm really eager to hear how the omelet pan works. I really, really miss my non-stick pans.

Lorraine,
Thanks, I'll wait for your report.
Vivre,
Hmmm, nah, I think I'll pass on that one. Though they say it eventually pays for itself because we'd use less veggies and get much more out of using less. Ok, doing quick math, it will pay for itself, maybe in 10 years, by then its broken.
Deanna, how I wish I could just buy one to try it out. I know how much pulp I have left over, its an amazing amount. Today I forgot to put the pulp catcher in place. It was an amazing amount all over the counter. Thanks for the site, I'll check it out.
Oh, I just checked it out, I can buy it and use it for 30 days. Hey not bad. It's not a juicer, it's a blender. No pulp mess, hardly no clean up. I see the light.

Hi Everyone,
Vivre * The little are added by using the T tab at the top of the page to paste a source code into your message. Thanks to StaceyR for posting instructions because I did not have a clue either.
Regarding the "hijackers" .... I am happy to hear that so many of us are obtaining victory over our histories. Sometimes when we experience tragedies and difficulties along with the dx, it is a comfort to have a safe place to park for awhile.
Juicers...I posted this on another thread and thought it might be useful here.
If anyone is in need of a juicer Jack La Lane has a deal going for $25.00 plus shipping. I purchased one on sale for $79.99 but the clean-up was annoying so I purchased the Health Master. I also negotiated a deal and purchased it for $9.99 shipping (instead of $29.99) and 3 payments of $49.99 instead of 4. Doesn't hurt to ask.....
This one also makes flour and hot soup. Comes with a 60 day return so I will give it a try.
Vivre * Was the juicer you saw made by Norwalk? There is another brand called the Welles Peoples Press or K & K that costs $329.00. Gerson recommends this one also along with the Champion Juicer. Oddly enough while watching a Gerson video one of the testimonials stated that she could not afford the expensive juicer so she purchased juice from a juice bar. Go figure.

Yes, Grace it was a Norwalk juicer. Supposed to have a lifetime warrantee.
Deanna-There was someone there with a vitamix too. I just did not see that those do anything different than my cuisinart food processor, which I just replaced with a new one. I had the old one for about 20 years I think. I loved it, but I am sure the new ones won't last as long, they never do! I love to make banana bread in the food processor. Who mentioned that zuchinni bread recipe? I would like to try that too, but the zuchinni will not be coming out of my garden for months yet, especially if it does not warm up around here.

Hi Everyone,
Rosemary44 * Lol. Yes, that sounds about right. My friend and I fancy ourselves as relatively bright women (the 2 of use encouraging each other) so we are trying to figure out how to press our own ground veggies by using clamps and such. Still working on it......
Regarding the SNB..yes, having peace of mind is very conrforting. Unlike trying to build my own juice press, operating on myself was out of the question so at some point, I had to trust my surgeon and get on with it.
Vivre * The Vitamix makes hot soup and grinds grains to make flour. Not sure if the Cuisinart has the same features. The Health Master is supposed to do the same thing, however, I don't know why I would need a blender to cook my soup? (My argument to justify buyers remorse in case I don't like it)
There is a demonstration video on the Norwalk Juicer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf7tjEQLCvE
As always,

hi girls, it has taken me 30 minutes to catch up....Fairy (Lorraine), thanks again for sharing the struggles you have gone through and Vivre you too. so good to hear how everyone is doing.
I was wondering for those who juice, if you use any of the leftover pulp to put in recipes. I look at the carrot pulp and wonder if there is a recipe I could add it too to reap the benefits of the fiber. I have been using a "JUiceman Jr." that my SIL gave me years ago. I live in a very small town, so there is a limit to even finding organic produce....but organic carrots are one that I find easily. today I juiced 5 carrots and got approximately 1/3 cup juice...i suppose the pricier juicers will give more juice, so maybe saving up for one would save money in the long run.
What are the best greens to use.....I hear a lot about Kale.....but I have only seen it in one of our grocery stores. Does it keep very long in the Frig? and how easily is it tolerated when you drink it, Fairy you have said at first it was hard to drink the concoction you purchase, but now you crave it...I have juiced spinach, but the taste deterred me . any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Grace, sounds like you got a deal on the health master, let us know how you like it...did you negotiate buying it by calling in regards to an advertisement and ask them if they were willing to lower their price.?
Thanks for inspiring me!

amber, I prefer a variety of greens, although I seem to always use celery in each batch. I've also developed a preference for romaine. It goes through the juicer easily and I use it in the salads that I eat a lot more lately.
Once you get into the habit of juicing, believe me, you'll have more trouble keeping yourself supplied with produce. It won't sit around long enough to go limp. A masticating juicer is the kind to get. A centrifugal force machine will not get as much juice and cleanup is more time consuming.

There are a couple of products I use and might be good for you to try if you don't want to buy a juicer. Roots & Fruits, Vruit Juice, and Boat house Green Goodness. These juices all have veggies in them and are delicious.

Well, I got all excited about the vita-mix till I saw what the jar is made of. Polycarbonate with BPA. The FDA says it's ok for us to have BPA in our blood, which really means, write our Wills. Anyway, companies know its suppose to be glass container and not plastic.
I do use the Jack La Lanne now and I figured it was time to move up.
Amber, were they large carrots? I used 5 (kinda large) carrots and got 3/4 of a cup of juice. Maybe I shouldn't be complaining. Just throw an apple in with the spinach, and you won't taste the spinach. I do that for asparagus. I just don't like the taste of asparagus
Thanks Althea, I'll start looking for a masticating juicer.
Yes, you can use the pulp for muffins, just throw it in a muffin mix. Add it to soups, win some type of chef's award. There's a trick to getting just the type of pulp you want. You put a glass in the pulp catcher, and juice what you want, say beets, take out the glass and you have beet garnish.

thanks Althea, I do like romaine for salads....i will have to look up the masticating juicer....mine looks like it is "centifrugical"?
Rosemary, the batch of carrots I just got were "medium". I will add some of the pulp to a batch of honey wheat muffins...and i never though about "garnish" that is creative.
I found this website on the differences in juicers, It list brands you can look into as well;

Althea,
Thanks for the ginger recommendation. I do use fresh ginger, but not enough. I doubled up yesterday, and my hip wasn't annoying me.
This is what I know about ginger in juicing: 1), good for our hips, 2) it keeps H.pylori away, 3) good for our ovaries, I read a research paper on that, 4) gets rid of heartburn and otherwise rotten stomach problems, 5) cures nausea, 6) it gives juice a nice zest. Not bad for just one little piece of something.

$2500 juicer!!! I'll put that on my "if I hit the lottery" list! LOL I have not gotten into the juicing thing yet.
Deanna, Ditto, let us know about that pan. I need to buy an new pan. The anticancer , new way of life dude says we need to use pristine teflon, and I'm just not using it at all. Still need a new pan!
I have been thinking about my "deamon" since Lorraine/Fairy and Vivre shared that theirs were alcohol and certain foods. I ate pretty well, and exercised some, but probably not enough, not like now. But the more I thought about it, the more I think my "cancer deamon" was stress. Allowing myself to absorb work stress, home stress, marriage stress, etc. rather than taking action to reduce it or letting it "wash over" me. I took a class in "Mindfulness based Stress Reduction" and now do Yoga. But as I look back, I think this was my "deamon". Just wanted to share as I think sometimes we think well, stress, you know, it's not like drinking or smoking or obesity. I think it might be as bad if not worse!
I have also recently told family members directly to stop X because you are causing me stress. I think there are some stresses we can't avoid, but I am thinking maybe there are some we can.
Anyway. Those are my heady thoughts for early on a Monday Morning you gorgeous ladies!!!

Amber,
That was a great site for juicer info. I think I'm settling in to this one:
http://www.harvestessentials.com/ommo80sigeju1.html
I can think about it some. I'm in no rush. That one has a small opening, so more cutting, but big deal.

Good morning, everyone ~ Spring, I'm with you on the stress! Don't know if it was my "demon" (if we all have one), but, like you, I am now quick to tell others that I really can't handle their drama. I also think the long walks you and I both do, a vivre has pointed out, is a great time for de-stressing, especially if we use the time to focus consciously on something that's bothering us and try to think through ideas and solutions.
And vivre, I'm sorry about your brother, but glad to hear that his lymphoma is early stage. And thank you for sharing such a personal testimony, too. It's both thought-provoking and very inspiring. Is your brother as enlightened as you are re. nutrition and emotions? Hope so, or hope that he's at least open to what you've learned about life and yourself. You have so much to share!
I came across this link this morning that someone posted on a new thread about some interesting research out of Sweden, and wanted to share it here for anyone who hasn't seen it: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/153839.php
Happy Monday, and have a great week everyone! Deanna

I'm going to talk to a radiologist today about rads. Do you gals have any suggestions on what to ask? I have some already written down. I would love your suggestions.I'm really freaked out about it. I have no lymph nodes left in my arm so I'm VERY concerned about lymphedema.
I read in today's paper that our water supply can be full of estrogen (YIKES). It is from women being on birth control and peeing. Gross! Whatever you do don't eat catfish!!! It contains a ton of estrogen.
God Bless Us All

Thanks ddlatt. How the heck do I find it???
I see you had a double mas with no recon. I'm thinking of that also. Do you have any regrets?
0 -
Has anyone here used natural estriol for vaginal atrophy? If so, did you get results?
0 -
seaotter
I too had double mast with no reconstruction and can say no regrets. I woke up and my first thought was cancer free!!! I was back working in two weeks....crashed a little the 3rd week. It has now been 6 weeks and no regrets. Best of luck
ddlatt Thank you so much for all your post on the Web. When I was making my decision your photographs of your body really helped. Glorious other photo on your site which display a wonderful soul and artistic eye.

Thanks Love! I still have not made a decision. I am still more concerned about lymphedema than getting bc again. Sounds crazy I know but I have read so much about lymphedema it is frightening to say the least.
ddlatt - I totally agree with Love, your pictures on your website are fantastic! I did find the tread you mentioned, thanks.

lovegolf and seaotter - thank you so much for the kind words about my photography. i'm grateful that san francisco magazine interviewed me about how i'm using my self-portraits of my mastectomy to spread the word about early detection with mammography. the article is here: http://www.sanfranmag.com/story/art-issues
i've also been "podcasted" about my cancer experience: http://fstopbeyond.tv/?p=565
lovegolf, i'm so glad my mastectomy photos helped you. i was also helped by other women's photos on flickr of bilateral mastectomies. it made my decision much easier for me.
seaotter - no regrets about the bilateral with no reconstruction. i never even considered reconstruction. i'm 54, i breastfed my kids years ago, i despise bras, i never wanted to worry about mammograms or the results again, and i've always wanted a flat chest, especially when i exercise. i also didn't consider reconstruction because i didn't want additional surgery or anesthesia, and i didn't want any pain, which i hear there's a lot of with reconstruction. my mother and grandmother both died of breast cancer, so i wanted to cut my chances of recurrence in the breasts down as much as i could. i love my new body!

seaotter, here's a really helpful website about lymphedema:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_6X_Lymphedema_5.asp
why are you worried about getting it? if you have very few nodes removed, you won't have much to worry about, as statistics go. i had two nodes removed, both negative, and have had no problems.

Amber,
I meant to answer the question you had about what vegetables to use. This is the site I went to for food information. Eventually from reading it, I got an idea of what I wanted to juice. I put apple in, and notice where it says that apples should be eaten and not juiced because so much nutrition is lost. Look up bok choy, which has no taste, and its loaded with nutrients.
Here's the site:

I put this on another thread, but I think this is something you all will want to learn more about. I went to a lecture at the Health Expo on GMO's. Here is the website:
You must all check this out. We must all start getting involved to start demanding that the tainting of our food supply stops. This is probably the biggest factor in the rise of cancer rates. Don't expect the govt. to do anything unless there is an uproar. Obama is appointing former Monsanto chief, Michael Taylor to oversee food safety. What a joke! Monsanto is public enemy #1 when it comes to poisoning us.

ivorymom, thank you for your kind words about my blog. i'm doing whatever i can to reach out to others who might be afraid of having cancer and treatment. i know i was scared to death when i got my diagnosis. i went to UCSF for a fourth opinion, met with the wonderful dr. mark moasser. i'm stuck here in reno, where the med oncs i have to go to because of insurance are absolute idiots. my rad onc is great, and he's going to do all my follow-up tests so i can dump my med oncs. but i run every decision by dr. moasser at UCSF. what an incredible place that is!

Althea that juicer is neat....like you said something to think about.
Rosemary, thanks for the website....I'll be reading!
Seaotter, it was a year ago last year that I went through rads...I was really scared...here are some questions I asked
take a list of supplements you want or are taking and give them to the rad oncologist....my rad onc approved all the ones I wrote down.
I asked if the rads would affect my heart and lungs, since my BC was on the left side.
what types of moisturizers are approved. on the water issue....I try to buy gallon jugs of distilled water..and it is really important to stay hydrated during rads.

So sorry if I'm making anyone repeat themselves but why juicing rather than eating the whole food? I always thought that eating the whole fruit/ vegetable was more benefcial.
Thanks
soprano

Lorraine, if you're peeing a lot, sounds like you are staying well hydrated, especially if the urine is coming out pale rather than concentrated. I notice that I also pee a whole lot, but I'm very concerned with staying well hydrated, better for skin, digestion, and for washing out toxins.

I just can't keep up with you ladies - this thread moves so fast!
ddlatt - wow! it's you - I have a subscription to SF mag and loved your work.
My head is spinning and my eyes burning from reading all the pages I missed and trying to absorb all the info. You ladies are amazing - so smart. I love you all

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had read Devra Davis's book "the secret history of the war on cancer?" I recently watched a trailer for a film called 'the idiot cycle' which I discussed on another message board (but members directed me to this message board, since this would be the place more appropriate for this topic), and it resonated with me. Has anyone else wondered about these things?
