Sea,
Not bad. We do gums all the time. They're thickening agents. As long as they aren't made from petrol oils, which they aren't. It's the fructose that I try to avoid. I don't use sugar, do you? If you don't then you don't want it in a vitamin you'll be taking twice a day. Even though it doesn't seem to be a lot, it all adds up by days end.
Are you against taking pills? I started with liquids because of the pill sizes. For some reason pills don't seem to bother me anymore. If you can take the pills, then you won't be seeing the other ingredients that your not happy with.
Our bodies can only absorb 500 mgs at a time of calcium, so since its a liquid take what would come to 500, then wait 5 hours for the next dose. Otherwise, it looks good if you don't mind the fructose.

seaotter! I actually use the Nature's Way DIM, I think as its in the enhanced absorbtion formula its good, I just know a lot of people use the Bio-Response as its the only DIM used in the clinical trials, but its expensive and I take 400mg a day so it adds up! I seem to be having success with Nature's Way Dim so will stick with that. I went to the local Mother's Market this morning to get my Goddess of Greens! and was walking around the supplement aisle, restocking my multi and omega 3 and I was listening to this awesome young man talking to a lady about flax oil etc etc and he starting spouting off about the Budwig Protocol!! I was floored, I don't know why, I was just totally surprised! he was such a young guy and he was going from customer to customer and knew so much about supplements I was very impressed! I forgot to find out what juicer they use, darn it! I will find out tomorrow!0

Thanks ladies for your info. I just talked to a alternative / chiropractor that is very close to me. I didn't think my small town had one. I talked to her on the phone for quite sometime. She believes in manipulation to get the immune system working correctly. I had not heard of that. Have you ladies? She also told me of a doc in Columbus that does alternative/holistic medicine. So many of the docs there are so impressed by his work that the James Care (where my surgeon is and all they do is breasts) is going to hire him to do alternative therapy. I thought that was amazing!!!!! I e-mail the doc to try to get an appointment. I am so excited!!!!

Do you take DIM 2 times a day or one? My pills are 200 mg.

Rosemary - No I am not against taking pills. Lord knows I take what seems like a ton already. That's good to know that our bodies can absorb so much at one time. I thought it would absorb better if it is liquid. I will finish the bottle then go back to my pills. What multi-vit do you take. I have been trying to find a liquid organic multi. I have found some but have not bought any yet. I'm slowly but surely getting away from sugar. I know that is very important for us.
Here's one for all the ladies: What multi-vit do you take???
0 -
Merlilee - I take 2 x 100mg in the morning and then the same dose at night.
Rosemary - I take SuperNutrition 50+ Multi-Vit it has everything in it, in fact the naturopathic md that I see was impressed with everything it had in it, I accidentally picked up the wrong one last month, the regular instead of the 50+ and I have felt the difference.

I took 400 mg this month when my estrogen ( according to my cycle ) was peaking. It makes sense to me for those 4 or 5 days to add some.

Merilee - I am doing a bit of an experiment, I wanted to up the dose between doing the 2:16 ratio urine tests to see if it makes a big impact......no not! I shall keep you all posted!

ok when will you test again?

I think in about 3 weeks, it will then be 3 months on the higher dose, it will be interesting to see if it has made a difference, fingers crossed!

You juice, or should I say you drink juice. Your doing so much more than any multi can give you. It's a wonder your not up all night painting ceilings. When you run out of ceilings, I've got some.
Seaotter, I don't take one. The wave of the future will be those gummy vitamins. Of course, they have so many choices to sweeten them up, and they choose sucrose instead. They'll get competition, and some company will make them healthier. Vitafusion is the name of one of them.
Whoops, I'm mixing my sugars. Sucrose is table sugar, but sucralose is splenda. Thus vitafusion is alright if your not watching sugars.

I take Dr Weil's vitamins (just started) as I trust (I hope, I hope) he is getting the amounts right having written about them long before he started selling them. There are far too many ingredients to list. I also take an omega 3, one for blood vessel support which is B6, folic acid, B-12, betaine and choline, an antioxidant, a CoQ10 (60 mg) which includes some vit E, and a calcium/magnesium one. I also take a baby aspirin (since I'm on tamoxifen) and glucosamine for joints. Whew!
I have to look if they have sugar in them...

Rosemary44 - that made me laugh! I do have energy, but I need all I can get, I am a wedding planner and this time of year is a doozy! I am up at 5:30am 5 days a week I run for 45 mins before going to work, I credit the running for upping my energy levels more than anything else, I TRY to keep my diet as clean as possible, but I sometimes fall off the wagon, today for instance I made lasagne from scratch, it was awesome and I enjoyed every bite! and THEN I had some ice cream, oh well! a girls got to live a little!

MBrowning, you have brought a smile to my face as I have been reading your post....I have read similar things about lymph nodes...if they are doing their job then they catch the cancer....You can gather a lot of info on the web.....
in the 1990's Dr. Carl Folkers believed and implemented studies on the effects of "CoQ10" in breast cancer patients....some women had residual cancer and mets...they upped their dose of CoQ10 to 390mg on their own; after they had taken this dose for a while, no residual cancer could be found. Of course they were on other supplements as well, but this proved to me that there are in fact natural things we can do to improve our health. You mentioned the budwig protocol....I have read a lot on this as well, it works much the same way as CoQ10.....bringing oxygen to the cell.
PurpleMe, Welcome, I was fatigued quite a bit following rads, and then started the tamoxifen a few weeks after....It makes me sad to think about those days....keep plugging in there and give your body all the good things to help strengthen it.
Rose and Seotter, I put in a ditto on the tamoxifen/arimedex, i put in 3 months of tamoxifen...I don't have any regrets in quitting...quality of life is so important....my oncolosist didn't push after he could tell I had firmly decided to not take tamoxifen, he didn't even suggest ovary suppression and AI's. But he still wants me to come back every 6 months....I think he is curious to see how I do, "going natural".
Well I am going to push the submit button and then go to the next page.
IN Jesus,
Amber

I read that study on coQ10. Didn't they just research that without the participants taking other vitamins except for foods? It's been awhile since I read it. The research was done from 90 to 390 mgs. Since I read it, it's been part of my regimen, but at 100 mgs. Since I do so much to keep to eating foods that are on my list of good things to eat to destroy cancer cells, I figured I could go lighter on the coQ10.
My juicing device decision has been made. I've decided on the vitamix. After I juice, I can sit down and still eat a meal. This is not good for trying to get the weight down. Plus, I hate throwing away all that wonderful pulp. I called the company, there is no BPA in the container, they can't use glass because of the strength of the chopping and liquifying going on. I really can't see the down side on this. Sounds good to me.
Fairy,
I hope that lasagna had spinach and mushrooms. That's a guilt-free lasagna. Just add veggies.

Rosemary - I have been looking up vitafusion. I wanted to find out the ingredients and how much mgs and such. All I can find is a list of ingredients. Do you have a website to go to? Thanks

Sea,
Yes, go to drugstore.com and put in a seach for vitafusion, and you see ingredients, and hit on that. They tell all there. Oh, I think Vitafusion products are sold at Target.

Amber,
That's the Dr. who I read. I read his original research a few years ago on coQ10. He says there might be other factors contributing, but he did find something that worked for at least one woman. I'll bet she's telling anyone who will listen to her.
Your post has made the thread get very wide. Just in case you didn't realize it.

thanks Rosemary, I deleted that post. the website had a long address...
my sister had breast cancer 11 years ago she has taken 100mg of the CoQ10 daily...and is still in remission. She opted out of tamoxifen and AI's too. so when I got BC last year...I asked her what she was taking and decided it was a good thing.

Amber,
What else is your sister doing? I always love to read about success stories.

oh good--I am taking 90 mg of CoQ10. So glad to hear your sister is doing well Amber!

Hi Atlernative Women,
I was recently diagnosed with LCIS and my BS wants me to go on Tamoxifen or have a BPM. I have decided to wait until the next imagery which will be done in Oct to decide further action. I know I reallly don't want to take tamoxifen. However, I do want to reduce the bad estrogen.
First I would like to try to get my hormone levels ck'd. I am pretty sure my estrogen is dominating. I am perimenopausal and my breasts/PMS have gotten worse in the last three years. Has anyone had any luck having there insurance cover testing? I wonder if my BS ordered it whether that would make a difference in coverage? I cannot afford it myself. Since getting my levels ck'd seems to be the first step for me any feedback on proper way to do it etc. would be helpful.
I want to change a bunch of neg. lifestyle things. I also am considering progesterone cream. Since I am on a fixed income it is going to be extremely challenging to tackle the diet. But I will do my best.
First goals are caffiene and smoking. Those are big ones for me. How do I tackle the estrogen dominance naturally?

Sea,
I forgot to mention that your vitamin D level could come up a bit. Your already taking 200 of D3, so upping it to 1000 I.U.'s might do it. Our goal is 70+ to be in a comfort zone.
Welcome Cleo,
Someone will be by who knows the answers to your questions. I just wanted to say Hi.

Rosemary - My md said my vit d level was fine! I thought I had read where it should be in the 70's. I have been taking 4,000 iu's for about a month now so hopefully it is already up. Did you ever decide on a juicer. I have been researching them for a week now and am still totally confused. Thanks!
Cleo - Welcome!!!! I had my hormone levels checked by my MD and my insurance paid for it. The only problem was that my MD has no clue on what the levels mean. Now I have to try to find someone that knows how to read them, hopefully my gyn will be helpful. I have chosen not to take tam or any of the inhibitors. Here's some ideas for you to google and decide: DIM, iodoral, calcium d-glucarate, vit d. These will get you started. I'm sure other gals will help also. Insurance does not cover any of these. You might find if you quit smoking (I know that is VERY hard) you might be able to pay for the vits. I hope you find peace in all of this.

rgiuff----Hello there! I read your thread and you mentioned vaginal dryness. I have not experienced this yet but my onc and I were talking and he said a patient of his that was experiencing this quite badly starting using coconut oil on her privates. She rubbed it on down there and the problem went away and her and here husband can have realtions again. I thought I would try it on my skin too. Just thought I'd share and see if anyone else has tried this. Iam new on this thread but have been reading it for a while. Lots of good info!! Thanks--Geri0

Sea,
My Dr. thought my 36 D level was wonderful. Right. If they'd only make them take another class in this stuff, one to go to sleep in and the other to pay a little attention to then we'd get better care.
I thought I had my juicer quest handled yesterday, but then another lady is using the Green Star, and likes it. So now I'm researching that one. Here's the problem. Eat the pulp or not to eat the pulp, that is the question. Vitamix, chops everything up, the pulp remains. A juicer just gets the juice. Which is better to do? And why? I wish there was a researched answer to which is better for us. I'm looking for it.

Interesting about the coconut oil. I use it on my skin everyday, but never thought of using it there!
Cleomoon-welcome. Seaotter gave you a lot of good suggestions and I can add a couple more. One of the things that will lower estrogen levels is to lower insulin levels. Besides a better diet, and getting rid of sugar, I did this by weight loss. All the weight in the midriff and breasts that I had gained in my 40's contributed a lot to my crazy hormones perimenopause. With a healthy diet and daily exercise, and taking supplements such as I3C, I was able bring down my estrogen levels to the same that a drug would have. I know it may seem daunting, in lieu of the fact that you also are committed to quit smoking and caffeine, but you will feel like a new person when you do. Just take it one day at a time. It really only takes about 3 weeks for your body to readjust and for the cravings to stop. If you can get past those 3 weeks, you will feel so much better, you will be motivated to keep going. At least that is how it worked for me. Also, check out the iodine thread here. Iodine has been proven to help with fibrocystic breasts. All the info is on that thread.
