Welcome annia. I'm glad it has gone well for you. In 2 days I will be two years (yay!!!) out from my surgery. Unbelievable. Let us know how the reduction goes. You'll be matched up and even happier. I wear my same old bras too, no change.

I spent the weekend at a workshop watching a friend do magical things on the potters wheel... and eating. I sure hope the few pounds I gained goes away. I want to wear a slinky red dress to the opera this weekend.

Meg, sorry to hear about your friend's son. So young to have to fight this.

King's Speech - big yes.  Black Swan - another, stranger yes, with amazingly photographed dance sequences. Anyone see the Facebook movie? Social something?

Black bean chili with sour cream. Yum.

Carole, congrats on your weight loss. Keep up the good work! Hope your visit with your niece was good. Chili is always an excellent winter recipe/WW choice. I second Fortunate1s' "Yum"!

Congratulations on 2 years, Fortunate1. A slinky red dress!?! Oh, how fun and more inspiration to stay on program, although it will be awhile and I would have to find an excuse to wear a slinky red dress!

"The Black Swan" movie sounds intriguing. I'll have to investigate.

    Hi All

I've been off the boards for a while.  This past weekend I was on my annual hiking trip to the Grand Canyon.  It is the 6th time I have hiked into (and out of) the Canyon.  I go with a group of ladies...there were 18 of us this year!  The weather was perfect and I had such a great time!

I hiked a total of 25 miles in three days...it was fabulous!  I am going to try to post a photo of me.

Dimples! And yes, that is a fabulous picture. Wow, that must have been one hard hike back up.

I found a bad way to lose weight. I was sick-as-a-dog yesterday. Three pounds gone. Yuck.

Fortunate1, Congratulations on two years!!! I hope you're feeling better...I was sick right after Christmas. Ugh!  Enjoy the opera! Did you say "red slinky dress"...only in my dreams, but I'm working on it!

Speech, Love your picture...you look great! I don't think I could do that climb!...congratulations!

Okiegal, Congratulations on losing weight over the holidays! WOW! What great incentive!

Carole, I'll have to take out my old WW cookbook...maybe I'll find something to share!

    Upcreek, Hope you're doing well!

It's a winter wonderland out there! We had 14 inches of snow overnight. This snowfall was over a least of 1 ½ feet of snow that has not melted...freezing temps for weeks!

Lily gave birth to two cubs last Friday. She gave birth to her first cub on my watch! An hour later she gave birth to the second cub. Her back was to the camera so I wasn't sure what the heck was going on! When a cub is born, she licks it and it screams! LOL It was exciting to experience!

I hope you are all well and have a great day!

Winter wonderland. Great weather for hibernating. Meg, how exciting to see the cub being born - congratulations!

Class started today, and I remember why I love to teach.

Slinky is a bit of an overstatement for my red dress, but it is pretty form fitting. It has a beautiful sheer red coat to wear over it. I had better try it on and see if it still fits. Opera tomorrow!

I encountered two women on other threads who may come by here for information about one-step reconstruction and encouragement. ValerieG and lovinglife. Give them a big one-step welcome if they visit. I may be gone. Great weekend everyone.

Speech:  Great picture.  Are there snakes?  Would love to do a hike like that.

Fortunate1:  that nasty bug is going around here too.  We didn't get it and sorry you did.  We just had colds and thanks Meg I am feeling better and getting excited about going to Florida for a week and seeing Caroline and her DH on the way back.

I didn't see the social networking movie Fortunate1.  Did anyone else?

Hi to all.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Hey everyone...Upcreek...lovely profile photo.

Hiking has been the most effective way for me to get and stay in shape.  I discovered hiking when I moved to AZ in 2004 and have been hitting the trails ever since.  If you can walk, you can hike.  And you can do it anywhere!  BTW there were no snakes when we hiked the canyon in January (they are hibernating).  I have never seen a snake in the 6 years of hiking in AZ.

Hope everyone in snowy climes are enjoying the winter wonderland and staying safe.  It's in the high 60s here and I do enjoy it.  I miss the snow, but I get my "snow fix" when I go up to the Canyon and Flagstaff in January.

    Hope everyone is feeling well!

    Hi everyone -

I know this is the one-step-with-alloderm discussion board, but I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with a one-step-without-alloderm reconstruction.  The pectoral muscles aren't cut; the implants are placed over them. This is the procedure my PS uses, which sounds great to me, but I don't think I've seen much about it on bco.  Thanks for your help!

Hi Yogamom,    I had the nipple/skin sparing with immediate reconstruction under the muscle.  One thing to consider is that with the implant behind the muscle, the chest wall is pushed forward making detection of any future reoccurrence easier.  With the implant in front of the chest muscle, diagnostics will be more difficult.  I would like to know what you learned, how is the implant held in place?

Speech:  No snakes, that's good.  We do lots of hiking too.  We have only the bears to worry about.  Snakes or bears, hmmmm, I'll take bears maybe?

Yogamom:  I have never heard of the implants above the muscle after mastectomy.

yogamom, I haven't heard about the procedure your ps recommends.  I, too, wonder what keeps the implants in place.

Tomorrow I'm having laser dental surgery for periodontal disease in an effort to save an important tooth that's an anchor for a permanent bridge.  The procedure is supposed to be relatively painless.  The down side is having to eat soft foods for a couple of weeks.

Fortunate, DH and I are planning to return to Vista, CA, next Sept to visit his elderly uncles.  I hope we'll be able to get together with you and your DH while we're there.

    Hi to everyone.

Yogamom, I haven't heard of an implant over the muscle for reconstruction either. I know that is how some PS preform breast enhancement, but I've not heard anything about post mastectomy reconstruction. However, my mother had a "one step" (under the muscle) implant reconstruction without Alloderm in about 1985 and that procedure is still available, depending on your PS.

We are having a blizzard today complete with "thunder snow" ! The snow is pretty, but we had two days of 65-75 degree weather last week, so I'm really missing the beautiful and boring CA weather that was the norm in Los Angeles!

Carole, here's hoping your surgery is a complete success. I have some great recipes and suggestions for soft foods if you need any. My sister had jaw surgery a few years ago, complete with wires. She thought she might accidentally lose some weight. Didn't happen.

    Have a good day all!

What an ugly day here so far.  Gray and windy with forecasts of rain and possibly thunderstorms.  My dental surgery is scheduled for 2pm in Slidell, a 30 min. drive.  I'm hoping the storms don't occur between 1:30 and 4pm.

We're watching the weather channel and some reporter is standing in Oklahoma City in the midst of a very snowy scene.

Maybe I'll get started on Turbo Tax today.  Most years I have already done our tax return by now, but this year I haven't been in any hurry because I figure we'll have to pay extra income tax.  Despite the governmental myth about no inflation, cost of living has risen and we've had to withdraw more income from retirement funds this year.

Okiegal, I'm sure I would enjoy some of your cream soup recipes.  I've been browsing through some of my recipe books and have found quite a few.  I don't usually make soups that are blended so this will be a new cooking experience.  You rained on my parade with your account of your sister not losing weight with her jaws wired!!!  My niece Rebecca had jaw surgery when she was 16 for severe underbite and she did lose weight.  She would drink blended red beans through a straw.  I normally eat a lot of "roughage."  I may have to bring out the Miralax left over from my convalescence from breast surgery.  Oh, well.  This, too will pass.

Yesterday I played bridge in a "pro-am" game at the bridge club where I play bridge every other Mon.  I drew an old grump, Ron, for a partner.  I didn't do much to please Ron.  It would have been more fun with a different partner.  Ron would probably say the same!

Enough chatter.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi Carole, I hope you're recuperating in comfort. The weather news is amazing! Hope everyone is snug and warm. Yes yes, come and visit!

The red dress was a hit - I love red. The opera was gorgeous. Now it's back to work in one of the few places in the country with good weather. Blue skies and really strong winds.

Yogamom, I heard about a reconstruction with the implant on top of the muscle on the picture forum. It was long ago so the thread would be buried way-back. The response was the same as here. Can the implant be held in place with skin alone? Would the implant edges be visible? And above all, would a recurrence be detectable behind an implant?

Fortunate, you look beautiful in the red dress.  Love your hairstyle.

Yes, I'm recuperating in comfort.  Went to the supermarket today and bought food supplies for soups.  Made a spinach lemon soup today that was very tasty.

Tonight is my 2nd babysitting session with my niece's 3 chilluns.  Hope it isn't sleeting at 10:30 when I drive home.

Picked up some food items for my mom at the grocery store and left them in the trunk of my car on the carport!  It's about 36 degrees outside and windy.  Very cold weather for us.

    Fortunate1, you look ravishing!

Carole, glad to hear you are recuperating. You must be feeling good if you can take care of three children! All of my soup recipes are filling and WW friendly. You could lose some weight yet!

I think our official snowfall total was 14". I am snowed in, but my sister has had to drive. Fortunately, she has all wheel drive, but her "Murano" isn't really high enough. Jeeps and double cab pickups (with 4 wheel drive) are doing very well. We just aren't prepared for this much snow. Tulsa has been at a standstill and I have entertained myself with shoveling the driveway. I can already tell that I will be sore tomorrow! Oh well, it's always fun playing in the snow. I visited with my neighbors as they shoveled their driveways. I think we will all be stir crazy before this is over! The temperatures will continue to be below freezing which means a slow thaw. Then there's more snow coming on Monday. Now, if I can just get to the liquor store to stock up on some wine....! I didn't realize this was going to be so bad!

Hope all you snow bunnies are staying warm and cozy.  Here in Phoenix it is very cold.  It froze last night and is already freezing this afternoon.  I had to cover my veggie garden!

Fortunate1 You look gorgeous in your red dress!  I love that shade of red, too!  I am glad you had a great time!

Fortunate1, You look great in your red, slinky dress and shoes! I hope you had a great time at the opera! I can't remember the last time I wore a dress! I have a few long skirts, but no dresses.

Carole, I hope you're feeling OK.  I make fruit smoothies all the time...very refreshing and filling!

Speech, I hope your veggie garden survives the freeze!

Okiegal, We had an ice storm over 3 inches of snow creating very heavy snow! I shoveled our long walkway while DH did the driveway with the snow blower. It took us all morning.  Just when we were finishing the town snow plow came and blocked the end of the driveway again! Grrrr This has been our eighth snow storm this year. My arms are getting very strong! Lol I still think the snow is pretty!

I saw "Social Network"...I think it was OK. I found it hard to hear at times. I liked "Inception" and "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps".  Also, if you like a crime, drama movie "The Town" was good. I liked "Salt" (action, adventure movie).  I did not like "The American" at all. LOL Maybe I should be a movie critic!

    Take care everyone!

Okiegal:  Welcome to winter.  We have all the equipment for snow removal but in the last few years we haven't received allot of snow.  We like the snow here.Smile

    Fortunate1:  wow, lovely!

Carole:  Hope you are feeling better.  We are leaving tomorrow and will call you next Friday morning before we leave.  I hope we don't see snow down in the South!

Meg, tx for the review.  I saw Inception, okay, not really because I fell asleep.  If you think it's worth another watch I'll do it.

    Hi to all.

Nice to have several posts to read this morning.  The sun is shining here today!!  What a lovely sight.  I was up early this morning and went to my great-nephew's  (7 yrs) basketball game.  There was a basketball and hoops and some similarity to the sport of basketball!  Afterwards we went to breakfast, which turned out to be more like lunch.

This afternoon DH and I are going to see The King's Speech.

I started working with Turbo Tax to do our federal tax return.

Meg, I agree that snow is pretty but I'm just as happy looking at those beautiful scenes on tv.  My S in law and B in law had plane tickets to fly from FL to IN to sit with their 4 grandchildren while their daughter and her DH went on a cruise.  The airports were closed and I don't think they were able to go. Lots of inconveniences and dangers connected with winter storms.

I've been hoping for good weather for Upcreek's visit to FL and LA this week, but my weather infuence obviously isn't great.

    Wishing everyone a happy weekend.

Hi Ladies!  I'm so happy. I recently saw my plasitc surgeon after 6 months since my bilateral Alloderm reconstuction and things are looking great. Some minor cosmetic possiblities which I can't be bothered with (slightly upturned nipple). Out with the bad (cancer) and in with the better option (silicone) is good enough for me!

Funny weather. You folks are getting all the snow, yet the ski hills up here on the west coast of Canada have been dry for weeks.

Hi all and Caroline-H, glad to hear you are happy with your results. After a little over 1.5 years post surgery, I'm finally starting to feel like doing tattoos to finish things off.

UpCreek, the snow has been beautiful. I really like the way it brightens up the winter landscape, especially when the sun shines. Tulsa has looked like a ski town, but now that we've had some melting, it's really messy. At least most people can get out of their driveways now. I think I'll try and drive today. The snow was so deep you needed a 4WD with high clearance. We may get up to another 10" on Wednesday and then, hopefully, we'll warm up and be done with all of the record breaking snow!

Meg, snow shoveling is a great workout! I was joking that I should make an exercise video. I looked online to see if anyone had and found a guy who has one for working out with a sledgehammer! He calls it "shovelgloving"!?! Think I would probably ruin the furniture, I better stick to Yoga and weight lifting!

Carole, what did you think of "The Kings Speech"? Are you healing well from your dental surgery? Hope everyone had a good weekend.

    Hi everyone.

Caroline-H, nice to know that there are more happy one-steppers out there. I'm getting the feeling that the one-step is getting more available. Glad it went as well for you as it did for us!

I had a lovely Sunday. Don't you just love what the Super Bowl does to a busy city? DH and I drove through quiet streets to an almost empty theater and saw "True Grit". I recommend it. DH says it's his vote for best picture over "The King's Speech" and "Winter's Bone". I'm undecided. "The King's Speech" was really good, "Winter's Bone" was wonderful, "Black Swan", beautiful. Haven't seen "Social Network".

Glad you all liked the red dress. You made me feel good.

Snow would be such fun if it came in and made a beautiful disruption, and then left quickly.

Okiegal, I think The King's Speech is an excellent movie.  People clapped in appreciation when it was over.  I liked True Grit, too, but I didn't "suspend my disbelief" as totally as I did while watching King's Speech.  DH wondered about the accuracy of the portrayal of the brother who abdicated.  Was he that much of a party guy?  Any history majors here?

My jaw hasn't bothered me at all.  Eating the "mushy" food instead of my usual cruncy diet isn't resulting in any weight loss, alas.  My meals don't seem to satisfy my hunger.  It hasn't helped that I've started reading the new thread, What's for dinner?

I didn't pay the Super Bowl much attention because I didn't care who won.  I saw on tv that some New Orleans fans had parties and watched a re-run of last year's Super Bowl.  We have friends from WI so it was fine with me for Green Bay to win.

Hope Upcreek is enjoying her Florida vacation.

Carole, a few days after my sister had her jaw surgery, I fixed a recipe called "Mimi's smoked Salmon Chowder" (http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/mimis-smoked-salmon-chowder/Detail.aspx). It was the first high protein meal she had eaten in days. She still remarks on what a difference it made. It also helps that it is excellent! I can never find smoked salmon, so I substitute canned salmon (boneless) and add hickory flavor and hickory salt. It's even potentially WW friendly, if you don't eat too much or add other side dishes. Maybe you'll lose some weight after all?

I was researching "nipple tattoos" on this site yesterday and found someone recommending a temporary tattoo website that sells temporary nipple tattoos. Thought I'd share. It's a product idea I also had early on, I'm glad to see someone has pursued this. The site is called, Tattooed Nipples and their web address is: http://tattooednipples.com/purchase-rub-on-nipple-tattoos/about-rub-on-nipples%E2%84%A2/ I'm thinking about making an order to see if I think a tattoo would make much difference. I'll let you all know when and if I do.

We're supposed to be hit with another 8-12" of snow today. This will put us in a whole new category of records for one season. Beautiful. Then on to warmer weather, I hope.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I have some questions for you all. I'm not sure if you will know the answers if you have Alloderm on both sides. I had implants 5 years before being diagnosed with breast cancer. My PS said that I had probably formed enough of a capsule in 5 years to just put my new implants in my old capsule, but that she would use Alloderm if she needed to. One side had not formed enough of a capsule, so she had to use Alloderm on that side only. I have more pain and swelling on that side, plus it seems a little lumpy, like I can tell where the Alloderm is. Is this normal? I am two weeks out tomorrow and I don't see her again for two more weeks. I just really noticed this swelling in the last couple of days and this swelling is where it was most painful after surgery. I will admit to barely being able to look at them until the last couple of days. So I really can't say for sure how long this swelling has been there!

    Thanks for your help!
