Thank you Webstertoo.  Someone here always has an answer!

I had seen others use a or b after Stage I and had been wondering about it.  Somehow Stage I sounds better than Stage Ib :)

Webstertoo, thanks so much for the explanation.  I looked for it last night, but couldn't find anything that would explain it.  I knew someone would know.

Pam, you are right, Stage 1 does sound better than 1b, expecially since when you are talkiing about other stages, it means it has spread out side the breast.

Jen, congrats on finishing your rads.  We all want to be there too.  I will probably not be finished until next March.  It seems like light years away now.

Good night sisters, talk  to you tomorrow.

    Hi all

Just found this site and have read many of your stories and think it is so wonderful about the way you all care for and help one another,    I am almost 72 years young, had a lumpectomy on 10/8 and am scheduled for radiation starting on 11/16.  The surgeon and the onocologist bot say I am a good candidate for radiation twice a day for 5 days.  Not sure that is what i will do. Right now I am still dealing with drainage for a small opening in the incision.   Did not have a drain and was doing OK unitil 2 weeks after surgery and then decided I must have been allergic to the glue they put me back together with.   Anyway will go Friday to see the Rad Oc and I don't think they will start radiation until I am healed.  Anyone had such an experience?

Hugs to all and keep our spirits soaring.

    Hi Kayok,

Sorry you had to join us, but glad you found us.  I really hope that infection in your incision clears up soon.  When a wound reopens or "dehisses" as we nurses call it, it's no fun!  Sounds like your doing great otherwise.  Looks like they are going to get you started on your rads really soon, that's good that just means it will get over that much sooner for you.  Keep us posted on that wound.  Hope all goes well with the Rad Onc on Friday.  I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow for my follow up and my Path report post surgery.

Happy Hump Day to All and For all of those that love the country music I'll be watchin the CMA's tonight!!  We love Carrie, George Strait (my youngest granddaughter is named after King George her name is Straitlyn!), Kenny, Tim McGraw and so many others!

    Hugs!

    Hi Kayok,

So sorry you have had this complication in your course of treatment.  If I have learned anything in this process it is that one has to expect the unexpected.  In my case I developed an infection post lumpectomy that did not show up until I was having my radiation simulation.  All these glitches interfere with starting rads.  Not that we WANT rads but if we have to have them we want to get with it!

It is all very upsetting but problems do get resolved and treatment moves forward.  Just keep moving forward, one step at a time.  Keep after your medical "staff."  No one else will take your situation as seriously as you do so you have to be your own advocate,

    Let us know what happens.

Hello Kayok, sorry you are here, but we will help you as much as possible.

Not much going on today, seems sort of quiet, which is very unusual.

Not much to report on my end. I had my first 2 physical therapy appointments this week at the lymphedema clinic. The massages are nice, I am working on the stretching. Healing well from rads and feeling a little stronger everyday.

Gosh, the end of this "annus horribilus" (as Queen Elizabeth put it) is fast approaching,  I am going to be really glad to put 2009 behind me.  Will any of you in current treatment wrap up before New Years?  I sure hope so!!!  Wishing a great 2010 for everyone.

What happens if you are mid treatment at year end?  Do you have to start over with a deductible? I plan to wean myself off of one of my doctors... the radiologist.  Finished rads in June and will have been back twice by end of year.  Wouldn't you think the med onc could order mammograms?  I have no skin issues so just feel he is one less doctor visit I would have to contend with.

Has anyone considered doing follow up with their PCP?  Only going back to the oncologist if a problem arose?  I would love that.  But I think I am afraid to cut the cord this soon.  Maybe in a year if all goes well.   And would the oncologist agree to see me if I switch, then need her?

    I am tired of doctors!!!

Hope everyone is hanging in there.

Oh, I wish I were wrapping up.  Tomorrow, I'll be in the 5-Year Club (Tamox) unless that's derailed by other unforseen atrocities.  I'm ready for 2010, glad to see 2009 go.

Oh how I wish I were with so many of you and ending the dreaded txt journey's, but mine is just beginning so it seems.  I saw my breast surgeon today and everything seems good, my incisions are healing well.  I complained about the numbness and soreness at the back of my arm and up under my axilla and he told me sometimes the numbness doesn't go away but hopefully it will to remember that I am only 2 weeks out.  Then he told me he is referring me to see a Med Onc for a Chemo eval.  He also told me what I already expected, that he may do and Oncotype test to see what my rate of reoccurrence may be.  Especially since I have a past history of CA.  So now I am waiting on a call from that doc to sched another appt.  He told me that including the biopsy and the actual tumor that was removed from surgery it was about 2.5cm, but according to my path report and all the tissue samples he took, he removed 23 cm width of my breast which is why mine was called a partial mastectomy I guess.  When I converted that to inches it was almost 10 inches in circumference I didn't do the depth I was afraid.  Now I know why by breast hurts so bad.  I also had DCIS on the outer edges of the IDC.  I am just praising the Lord that this was caught early.  It really could have been a lot worse for all my complaining and I am so thankful to everyone that said even the smallest of prayers for me.  Now to keep this Devilish Disease from rearing it's ugly head again... whatever it takes!

Elimar - good luck starting your Tamox I will be praying for no side effects!

jburke1 - good luck with your lymphedema treatments I do so hope and pray that they work for you and it resolves quickly.  I can imagine how difficult it is to deal with.  By the way how did you like the outcome of the Entertainer of the year or the rest of the CMA's?  I loved the songs!! I wished I could have been there.  I told my husband that I wanted to try and go next year... ??? Maybe!!! I can dream.

My tx was changed to Friday.  I am always off on Friday, so that is the best day for me, but they had trouble getting the Neulasta shot for me to take home.  But they finally did it, so the tx is tomorrow and they will show me how  to give myself the shot.

Alicia, how  are you doing?  I hope your ses weren't too bad.

pam, I will take all of next week off.  There is just too much sickness going on to try and go to work after a tx.  Last time my WBC dropped so low, there was nothing there to fight anything.  So I said I would not come back until  I had  another  blood test.  They are OK with that.  It is my last week of vacation.  But they will work with me for the other time that I need off.  If they don't I will take my short term disability and will not go to work for 3 months.

jen, glad things are going well for you with you lymphedema, I hope it doesn't get any worse.  Maybe you caught it in time.

michele,I have been doing everything I can, I just hope it all goes  as well as last tx.

mimi, I hope that they will do the Oncotype DX test, it is just more information for you.  You want to be sure that you have done everything possible, at least that is the way I feel.

Good night ladies, I will talk to you tomorrow.

    Good AM everyone!

Mimi-Glad your visit went well with your surgeon. Hopefully the Oncotype is done for you and you get your treatment plan before long. Youf DX is similar to mine, and I was able to avoid chemo. I had the DCIS around my IDC also, and I am just did Rads and I start Tamox on the 23rd. I wasn't that surprised at the big winner of the night for the CMA's she has had a huge year! Good for her :)

Juannelle- Thank you for being so supportive in the midst of all you are facing. You are a truely lovely lady and I am blessed to have gotten to know you here. I will pray for you that you get thru this next TX. Good that you are staying home next week, I hope you stay well.

I just saw the most appauling story on the Today show. This lady faked having breast cancer and had her local radio station put together a fund raiser to raise money for her so she could get breast implants. She faked the whole thing for breast augmentation. I am angry about this story, but also feel so sorry for someone that would have to go to those lengths to get something like that, when there are women out there like us fighting everyday with our insurance companies just to get our lumpectomies and mastectomies covered by insurance. Not to mention the physical and emotional pain we all go thru. I really feel for her.

Hope you all have a good day

    Hugs

Juanelle ~ I have been on the upswing for about 3 days (since I finally got something for my headaches from the dr.)  :)  Monday round #2 for me !  I still have my hair but my head is itchy, I am thinking it is a prelude.  My nose burned inside all day... low and behold nose hair FREE here.  :)    Good luck to you today !!  Glad you are taking a week off.

Mimi ~ they really took a lot out of that bad boobie of yours, no wonder it HURTS.  I hope your feeling comes back.  I can't take my numbderarms from the nodes they removed on both sides.  I am NUMB all over.

Pam ~ I started chemo in November I go well into next year with treatment and Dr's... my nightmare probably won't be over till Mid 2010 when I get these ceramic salad bowls taken out, oopps I mean Tissue Expanders.  Hope you are good !!  Thanks for always cheering us on.

Michele, Jen and anyone else I missed I hope you are doing well and SE's are to a minimum.

Jen,  I read about the lady faking cancer  as well...My mother use to say when I was little and would pretend that I had a broken arm or  leg.  "Never draw the devil on the wall, or he will appear"  I guess she was talking of Karma...HHmmm

Speaking of getting 2009 over with, hurrah for all who will be not be in treatment when the baby new year comes in,  we all wish it could be all of us.    We will dance on the tables for all of us anyway

So good to hear how all are doing .   Went to the Radiologist today about the fact that I was still have some drainage from the wound and I decided I would put Rads off until Nov. 30.  Give me more time to heal.   He agreed it would be OK to wait.  So guess I will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner and happy to be doing it.

Alicia,I am glad you are  on the upswing.  That is always a good sign.  I still have  lots  of  stubble, but my nose hair was the first to go.  I shaved my head with my electric razer and it helped a lot with the itching.  I am glad you got that headache taken care of, I know how bad it is to have a headache.

Jen, I didn't see the story about the woman faking bc, but I just can't imagine why anyone would want to, I know her motive was money, but OMG, it  just makes people not want to help someone when they really do have bc.  What a shame.

Kayok, glad you get to wait on rads until you are  healed, that will be  much better.  Have a great Thanksgiving.

michele, I like  the quote, I can't believe that you would pretend you had a broken arm.

Have a great weekend everyone, we all deserve it.

    Hi all you 09ers,

Jen... is the massage something you can do yourself?  I do stretches and occasionally rub my arm. Wonder if I am doing any good.  Did you have sentinel node biopsy?  I see you had 9 nodes removed.  That's a lot if you had SNB.  I guess I am an ostrich with her head in a hole... trying to go along as if nothing is up.  I was working around my patio today and  tripped over some stones.  My fall was like slow motion... all the way down I was thinking of what limb was going to get the worst of it?  Left arm damage=lymphodema, right knee damage=have to cancel arthroscopic surgery for torn meniscus next week, wrists to catch fall=broken bones secondary to AI therapy. Ended up with a skinned left knee... best case scenario!!!  But it amazed me how much could go thru my mind in the blink of an eye.

Thinking of you tomorrow Juanelle.  God bless everyone!

Thanks Pam, I hope the ses don't set in too early, I would like to have a peaceful weekend without too many complications.  But you just never know what each tx will do to you.  I glad you didn't hurt yourself too bad in your fall. That is one thing I am always afraid of now, as I get older it seems to more on my mind.

Pam, I am glad you didn't hurt yourself...I find I walk a little more carefully these days...Scared to do some damage to myself..

Juannelle,  didn't you play these broken arm games as a child?  My daughter does it as well....Perhaps I should scare her like my mother did..  Those were the days.....LOL

Hi Pam, I'm inolia..i guess we are on the same ride..I was diagnosed to have a solid nodule of a high malignancy feature last Jan 2009..had gone thro several tests and laboratories..and finally diagnosed to have an IDC april 2009,...then i went thro mastectomy on my right breast last May 2009..after the mastectomy, the pathology report shows, negative result for the lymph nodes and negative on margins..Doctor advised me not to take treatment but i will self check on a monthly basis after menstruation..then after six months will go back to doctor for follow up check up..that will be Dec 2009..  I am just so thankful that i didnt go thro chemotherapy due to early stage detection...that's it for now..

Michele, no I don't ever remember playing that game.  I am not sure what my mother would have done if I had.  Sometimes I wonder if she would have taken me to a doctor if I had a broken bone, or would have tried to set it herself.

inolia, good to have you on our thread.  Glad you caught it early so you do not have to do chemo.  Mine was caught early also, but I went with lumpectomy and then I had the Oncotype DX on my tumor and it was a 25, so I am now doing chemo.  Wasn't what I wanted, but here I am.  My tumor was Grade 2.  In you diagnosis line, it says that you had 6 positive nodes, if you don't have to do chemo or radiation, I would think that you had 0 positive.  Just a question, since this is your  first post.
