Laura --it's because we aren't men. The men afflicted with this disease have the same problem. It's predominatly a womans problem. Remember the controversy that insurance was going to pay for viagra , but wouldn;t pay for birth control pills. I know birth control pills are likely against your belief system. Thats not my point . It was a male vs female thing. My twin has a great retirement over 3300 amonth. She was a sargent on a large metropolitan police force---predominately male. I worked one place for 14 years as a nurse ---10 years in management----i'm going to get a whopping 93$ per month. It's sex descrimination. I say we twist the testicles of the lawmakers, until they vote decent laws that women receive the equivalent medical benifits that men get. Of course just by making that statement , I have put myself on a watch list.

But it wouldn't be the first time.

Say it Sheila! I swear, we are going to be taking care of each other in the Nursing home someday...93 dollars indeed. Thanks so much for the prayer thread, I will peek in the morning. Good night and sweet dreams (PS, I spent an hour trying to re-arrange my computer so I don't lean on my arm that has issues.) I wonder if I sound different now that I am lying on my back?

    night all :)

I got a company one time to add hearing aides to there plan. I stupidly didn't take rapid action on it.They then changed plans which refused to cover hearing aides. I initially challenged what is the difference between someones disability of a loss of any other body function which is covered with provision for a prothesis and my need for a hearing aide. It's a loss of a body function, that could be improved by a mechanical device. How is that different.

Well someone else challenged in the 9th district court of appeals---ruled against it. I don't get it. it's a pick and choose of what they cover and what they don't. But if you find that they cover something equivalent for a man ---sue them for sexual discrimination

Laura my twin has had LE since about 97. Every day is a battle and work. She constantly has to watch everything. But she is so smart about insurance.

Catholic sisters are quiet today.  I hope everyone is ok... just resting. :-)

Sheila: thank you for setting up the prayer thread!

Laura:  I have Anthem BC and they paid 100% of my sleeve and gauntlet... but the PT took care of calling them and ordering it.  I go in tomorrow and she'll show me how to put it on.  It's REALLY tight.

Traci: How did your xray go?

Sorry I kind of just burst out into the middle of prayers last night. I wasn;t watching the clock

michelle would you add the OurfFather, Hail Mary , and the glory be to the beginning of the archive Thanks---I' always afraid I'm going to miss something, If there are any other standard C prayers tha can be added do

Think that stuff on the previous page was to strident? My blood was up. This damnable BC is hurting too many. They solved the Genome in record time. Patented the genes making a fortune. OH I think I'm starting again. But can take this epidemic and do a decent job of solving it.

Laura, just saw your post about insurance not covering garments. I had the same problem and appealed, then appealed again, etc. They now cover garments at 100% (which is very rare among insurance companies!) If your insurance covers DME, garments should be covered at the same rate. It's not easy to appeal, but it helped me direct some LE anger toward a necessary goal, so it helped in two waysLaughing. Also, now others on my plan can access LE garments. As far as I can tell, it's a matter of convincing the company that you're not going to give up. Finally resorted to taking my DH and two kids with me to the insurance company office -- along with a picnic basket full of lunch for all of us -- smiling sweetly, and assuring them we wouldn't be leaving until we could talk to someone who could help us. Since there were only four chairs in their reception room it amounted to a sit-in, and the picnic lunch convinced them we weren't budging anytime soon.

PM me if you need some help putting an appeal together.

    Hugs,
    Binney

    Dear Binney,

A picnic lunch!!! What a great pro-active way to say - I'm staying until you fix this!  LOVE IT.

I don't know much about insurance - just glad right now I have a good plan and all I've had to pay is a max of $10 for anything.  My heart goes out to all of you who do not enjoy the same type of coverage.  I'm hoping the Obama changes in health care help you and the rest of us who may one day be in need of health coverage. As a result of the changes I've been able to add my bipolar son back on my coverage starting Jan 1.  He's 24 and aged off the plan at 23 when he was no longer a full time student - can't hold a job because of the bipolar problems....unemployment doesn't provide health insurance....makes the bipolar issues worse.  His daily pill to control the ups/downs costs $275 a month - thank goodness for CVS discount plans.  So, it's like running in a circle trying to keep him healthy enough to work and then finding a job in this economy.

It seems all I'm hearing - even at work - is this person or that person was diagnosed with some type of cancer...or someone's cancer has advanced.  We need to find a cure soon.

    Hugs to all of you.

    Pat

Sheila - good job!  I just went to the prayers thread & added my little prayer for a cure and bookmarked as a favorite.

Traci - hope your wrist is better.  A doc told me once it takes longer for a sprain to resolve than a broken bone.  Hopefully you won't be in a cast!!!

    Hello Ladies,

Well i spent so much time trying to deal with my Insurance company, that i ran out of time to get the x ray and had to go to work. I fought hard, and was given wrong info over 12 times in three separate calls over three days. But this afternoon, a manager called and agreed to let me go the pharmacy that was recommended by my PT. My insurance could not direct me where to go, some fool this afternoon then started to equate the sleeve with compression stockings as far as their purpose, and I was like oh NO YOU DIDN"T!! I am reporting a few of these people, and just started dropping the words cancer, delay in treatment you name it. So I am VERY thankful that I did get to the right person, and hopefully all will be well. I will need to submit for reimbursement, but I want to get it done correctly the FIRST time :)

Theresa, are you recently diagnosed as well?

so X ray tomorrow after sleeve and glove fitting, so early in to work in the AM AAUUGGGHHH!!

And Sheila, I was beyond exhausted last night. I even sounded sleepy? I failed in prayers, so tried to do some focused Intentions today. I am not perfect...but I wanted you all to know I was there with you, and thinking of you.

Sheila, I can't wait to check out your threads today. I am going to find some prayers to nature to post...or maybe I'll just write them form the heart.

Pagowens...LOVE your costume and you both are so cute together!!

Prayersareanswered, I am thinking about you, we all are.

Torigirl has her third? chemo tomorrow, and I know she appreciates all of our prayers. Hang in there girl!!!!!

Traci:  No, I don't have LE, but I needed to get the sleeve b/c Skip and I are flying to Seattle for Thanksgiving.  It's a preventative sleeve.  After hearing what all the ladies here have to go through with LE, I don't want it!!!

I sent a PM to you a few minutes ago and my Internet connection to BC.org timed out!  I was so mad.  Hopefully, you got it... if not, I'll have to write it over again.

    Prayers for everyone tonight.

    Sisters,

I hope everyone is doing well tonight.  I'm wide awake and prolly will be for awhile. I'm on my pre-med steroids for treatment tomorrow and last time I was awake most of the night.  Chemo nurse gave me some tips so that won't happen this time..so we will see...

At any rate...so pretty today...a bit windy but worth the walk today. We are going to get our first freeze tonight.  I'm sure the weather will not cooperate much after that....glad I got out.

Traci, thanks for remembering my treatment tomorrow...yeppers, it's number 3 and I'm halfway done!  Can I hear a "Woot!  Woot!"?  I will still have rads after that, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it...one mountain at a time...

Thanks in the advance for the prayers ladies...it means the world to me that you think of me and encourage me when I need it.  I too, am praying that all goes smoothly and that SEs are minimal and tolerable...that I have not "surprises" either...I will definitely check in when I can.

Please know that I lifted you all up in prayer today as I said my rosary.  I certainly hope and pray that you all felt blessed...

I found out today that my baby sister (who is 34) who also lives in Germany, is going to Fatima on the 18th of this month...such a blessing for her to be able to go...I will be sending her a picture of my husband and I for her to leave there...

Would it be okay with you all for me to copy off our prayer petitions and email those to her to place there as well?  If anyone wants to PM me with more that would be most welcomed as well.

Just let me know your thoughts when you can...

    Have a most blessed evening..

    peace and prayers,

    Tori

Sheila... I did not find the thread for Prayers, I started it, so that she could get responses. I was thinking.. with her being new to BCO... she might not know how to start a thread.... so, that is how I got that thread.... I just started it myself..:)

Ladies.. the way we are all talking about our LE here.. and then to have the BLESSED Binney stopping in to tell me about appealing ins. .. I have to look FIVE TIMES( no joke) at the top of this page to make sure I was on my Catholic thread.. and not the LE thread I started awhile back.......LOL LOL LOL. I thought I was messing up.....BAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Binney... you are beyond lovely aren't you! You reach out and help SO many of us. I wish there was a BCO award....... You would get one sister! Thank you for watching out for ALL your LE girls! You are special! I am looking into appealing... or having my cancer center send in a different  code number... I will have to let you know what they say.

    Laura,

I say go for it, it is not acceptable, and as you can see, Binney called them on it, and changed it for all of the future LE sufferers. My hospital admission for cellulitis last year was initially denied, and they sent me the denial letter including the rationale. It was like a sophomore in High School reviewed the case and they were their first semester of Biology. There was nothing sound about the medical judgement, and I was actually horrified at the lack of common sense. It was approved, but seriously, who knows who is sitting behind these desks (Tim, can you hear me?) I would insist on talking to a Nurse Case Manager to start. I kept saying today, can you please send me to someone that has some medical knowledge? It was scary.

    Sisters,

Since my sister Liz, doesn't leave for her trip to Fatima until Nov 17th, we can keep updating the list of intentions that mmm5 started (if that's okay).  If you want to PM with special intentions that is fine too. I will compose one big email with all the intentions and send to my sister on Nov 16th and she will leave them there when she goes.  Please keep her in your prayers while she travels as she just found out about a month ago that she is pregnant as well...thanks in advance!

Have a most blessed night of rest all,

    peace and prayers,

Hello everyone, sorry I've been MIA but tonight I actually was zonked out.  I was watching the 9pm show Fringe and before half way, I was out on the couch having zzzzzzz.  My sister will be leaving and going back to Canada tomorrow night.  My schedule will then be back to nromal.  I take her shopping for the rest of the other sisters and I am sooo tired after that.

Sheila ~found the thread about "prayers", great job, thanks!!

Tori ~ good luck tomorrow, will be praying and thinking about you.

I had my #16 rads today and a followup with my rad onc.  He seemed a little indifferent than before. I wonder if he was not happy that I saw another dr. on Tuesday.  I just kept repeating my issues to him.  Numbness in left arm, swelling in left breast and left axilla, he was holding my binder and was not writing any notes.  (I will be writing all these in my diary, thanks Sheila, good idea).  In fact even with my sleeping pill, I am not sleeping very well and I'm like a Zombie in the morning.  My breast is getting a little pinker but no peeling, pray it will just stay this way.   The little jolts of pain is to be expected so I am not complainin, just the weird arm feeling.  I've put a book on hold at the library and will pick it up tomorrow.  I hope to find more answers.

Theresa ~ has your office issue get resolved?

I'm really tired so I will be hitting the sack early tonight.  Good night all!

    Morning Paula,

Just rest as much as you can during radiation. Sounds like your skin is holding well so far...what are you using for skin care regimen? Can you bear with me while I try and remember something... I think you said you did not have this numbness after surgery. It started with the Rads? you will be seeing PT soon too, right? I am extra sore from PT because I felt I had to put it off due to returning to work...so the sooner you can work on mobility the better.

Prayers tonight Ladies? I will be here at 10:00 EST as I was floundering the other night.  Our Novena ends tomorrow I believe?

    Have a blessed day all!

Prayersareanswered:  Praise be to God!!!!  I know what a relief that is for you.

Traci:  Yes definitely to prayers tonight!!  DH, DD and I are supposed to watch a Netflix movie (no grandkids) called The Fourth Wiseman (not Wiseguy) and have popcorn.  So unless the movie is a snoozer, I'll be awake.

Paula:  My co-worker situation is calming down.  I think she realizes that I am not a threat to her job.  We actually can complement each other with our different skill sets and offer something really good for our client.  Fingers crossed and prayers arising!

Tori: That sounds great about your sister going to Fatima and bringing our prayer intentions!  Keep us in the loop on how your doing with this your halfway point in chemo!!  Celebrate all the milestones!

It's quiet at work today.  I just want the weekend to start.  I meet my PT today to have her show me how to put my LE sleeve on... I'll be amazed b/c it's really tight looking.

Prayersare answered - WONDERFUL news!  See?  Those nodes were doing their jobs!  Hope you can relax some this weekend and do something special w/the family and not even think about bc.

Got the news my oncotype came in at 13 - only spoke briefly to the onc as I have an appointment Monday to go over everything but he said since that is in the low range we'll focus on anti-estrogen.  I'm relieved but also a little concerned because I read that the Tailor X study is defining intermediate at 11 (instead of 18).   Nurse gave me the other results - low Vit D and said I was positive for cyp2d6 -- but I don't know if that means positive for the gene mutation or positive that I can metabolize tamoxifen.  And, review of path slides from the first hospital raised some questions about IDC v. ILC!!!  Seems like there are attributes of both as well as DCIS.  (First one said IDC & DCIS).  This is the CRAZIEST journey I've ever been on!  I feel like Alice in Wonderland.

Anyway - will be back tonite for prayers.  God bless us all.

There is so much news her , by the time I catch up i have forgotten things.

Binney----I LOVED the sitin approach. Reminds me off the 60's when we took over the university administration building because there was a rash of attacks and rapes on campus. The guys joined in also. The university upgraded everything and fast. I was almost mugged , but I had just lost the sorority jugging and then took a test which I knew i didn't do well with the beer on board. Three came after me, the closests grabbed my butt. I was in no mood to be messed with becides, I grew up in Detroit. Show fear and your in trouble. I straight armed with all the force I could. Caught him in the eye/ordit /nose. Almost put him on his butt. The rest laughed at him. To add injury to insult I walked vs ran to the dorm. It was very satisfying. It was a Jesuit campus.

PrA---great news --one more hurdle accomplished.  One step at a time

Dognosing me to go out--be back:)))

So, Sheila, you were a hippie chick! ;-)  Tough young woman and you still sound like you have a lot of that young girl in you!

Well, The Fourth Wise Man was a pretty bad movie.  Lots of stars in it, but way over acted and low budget.  I was not inspired. (I hope it was not a favorite movie of someone here!!)

I am sooo happy it's Friday and soooo happy that we will have an extra hour's sleep this weekend.

I wonder if everyone is as tired as I am this week, that's why we're so quiet.

I'll be back for prayer at 10.

    Have a blessed, peaceful evening.
