    Theresa, Loved that song . Used to be able to playit and sing it. Now I probably couldn't figure out the chord progression. Skip may know it?

    I notified everyone I could of Novena. Everyone on the intentions list if they were still posting, back to page one.

    For the Jun 1-Jun 9 Novena:

    I have a special intention unrelated to cancer but it relates to my mental health which took another hit when I got the cancer diagnosis.

    It was a year ago June 5 2011 when my life went in to the Twilight Zone. I had a bad breakup with a guy friend (friend for over 2 years, then another relationship for a year, then back to friends - way too long a story) that resulted in me developing PTSD. It started going downhill on June 1 when he broke up with a much older girlfriend, he was secretly seeing another woman, and I was somewhere in the middle.....I found out 3 1/2 years with him was all lies. He is mentally ill and doesn't know how sick he is (I found out the depth of it from the now 3 psychologists I have seen). I am still crying daily and it's almost a year. Cancer diagnosis hit 7 months to the day after. It's been rough. And he's in the media which makes it worse.....so I am choosing to move out of state by the end of the year. Being here is triggering way too much PTSD stuff - and I have to get better with some of that because some of it will follow me anywhere I go. I finally have a good psychologist who is helping me. I still have no memory past a certain point that day, and I still don't even know what happened....I just know there so many lies and this is a bad dream I still cannot wake up from.

    My intentions:

    For MW to some day get the help he needs

    For MW to realize some day I'm always his friend and family and will always be willing to help him as his friend

    For my mental health so I can move soon and start a new life

    Thanks so much for doing this - I wouldn't request about a non cancer issue, but that's the anniversary week and I could really use all the extra prayers I can get. And the docs all told me the stress of what happened that day/week fueled my cancer. So I reckon it does relate to the cancer. I have so little memory from June 5 on....I have blocked out so much. Didn't block out the day I got told I had cancer 7 months later. Ugh.

    I pray for God's path for each of us to be clear and for each of us to have the courage to follow it. Whatever happens with our living arrangements I pray that it goes smoothly and as stress free as possible.

    I ask for God's will to be done and for us to understand/know enough to make the most of it as it unfolds.

    Healing for so many people here and not on this board as well.

    Theresa_tried the guitar---with Where have all the flowers gone, got some of the chords right but missing something. frustrating. It only brings to mind --the use it or lose it senario----I once had a" talent". It was in the era of the 60's when it was considered a value. Married a man whose family didn't consider it a talent. He, therefore, didn't either. So, the music stopped. --------my Ds never learned how to sing.  The listening of music occured , but since the father negated my playing  or singing the son did too. Over time I have forgotten most everything of those wonderful folk songs and the ones that I wrote. I  now play on the form of Segovia. He took spanish guitar and gave it form. But what's lovely about the form is you can make it up as you go along, if you have no formal training. It allows energy and expression--and release-----b/c it can be soft and tight or very loudly expressive-------whatever the need. But when I went to do "where have all the flowers gone" I knew I had lost something

    Happy Pentacost everyone!

    Prayers for all of you who are struggling with this awful disease and the byproducts of the disease and medications.  Prayers for all of you who suffer seeing family members suffer.

    Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
    V. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created.
    R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

    Let us pray.

    O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

    Sheila - I'm sorry you feel that you lost something with your guitar talent.  It might be like a foreign language where if you don't use it you lose it.  I took piano and was pretty good in my twenties, but through marriage and children etc, I didn't practice and now I've lost most all of it too.  Keep plunking away and I'm sure it will come back to you.  If I didn't live in two places, I'd be tempted to take it up the piano again.

    Oldest grandson got sick last night, poor thing.  There's nothing worse than vomiting!  I was just drifting off to sleep when I heard his commotion.  He didn't make it to the bathroom, so you can imagine what his Mom and I were doing.  His Dad got him into the shower.  We just hope it was something he ate, or this oppressive heat.

    Laura, dunesleeper, Cherilynn and all those who suffer depression and other mental ailments... May Jesus hold you in his loving arms, may the Blessed Mother tend to you in only the way a tender Mother can love her children.  Just close your eyes and imagine you're in Jesus and Mary's home and the sweet tender loving care you feel... no matter how sick, how depressed, how angry, how afraid you are when you enter the home, imagine it completely leaving your body, if only for a short while.  Ask Jesus for understanding of the meaning of your cross. Unite it with His Cross and all the rest of us who are bearing our crosses with you.

    Pax.

    Hello sisters

    i haven't posted in a while as I have been a bit down following some bad news. You may remember that I was on Herceptin and it was working very well. 2 different Onc consultants enthused on how well it was controlling the tumours. Well in between the January and May CT Scans for some reason the Herceptin stopped working and the metastised liver tumours started to grow again.

    I got a PICC line inserted and am back on Chemo. I am now getting Irinotecan with Fluorouracil (known as 5FU) and Folinic acid - if any of you have ever heard of that regime. I started it on 11 May and will get the treatment via IV Infusion ever 2nd Friday afternoon in the clinic, and will wear a pressurised bottle of chemo over the weekend attached to the PICC line. I then have to go back to the clinic on the Monday morning to have the bottle removed and the PICC line, where it enters my arm, to be dressed and sterilised. On Wednesday of the following week I have to go to the clinic to give bloods and have the PICC dressed and sterilised again. This will continue for 6 months. I was proverbially " seriously knocked back " when I was given the news about the Herceptin not working any more but have managed to pick myself up and get back into the fight with this accursed decease.

    Although I have only had 2 treatments so far the only SEs are that I be nauseous over the weekend of the treatment, nor can I sleep and a small but definite loss of weight.

    So sisters can you maybe remember me sometimes in your prayers that this regime controlls the tumours or even better still that it shrinks them.

    Frank

    Frank, I am soooo sorry, my heart hurts for you. Let fear be stricken away by the faith you have in the Lord, in His goodness, in His mercy, may you find His healing hands touch you, that you might sleep secure in His arms at night, and wake renewed in body and spirit to fight this awful disease. You are in my nightly prayers, God bless you Frank.

    SAS~ chemo affected my ability to play the guitar.  I had to re-learn several cords and still today I sometimes can't make my fingers get on the correct string.  My brain is telling my fingers were to go, but there is a miscommunication somewhere.....

    Tink~praying for health for both our girls.

    For the depressed, for the tired, for the weary today, Here's a Chris Tomlin song for you today "Let Faith Arise"

    Be still, there is a healer
    His love is deeper than the sea
    His mercy, it is unfailing
    His arms are fortress for the weak

    Let faith arise
    Let faith arise

    I lift my hands to believe again
    You are my refuge, You are my strength
    As I pour out my heart
    These things, I remember
    You are faithful, God, forever

    Be still, there is a river
    That flows from Calvary's tree
    A fountain for the thirsty
    Pure grace that washes over me

    Let faith arise
    Let faith arise

    Thank you so much to everyone who prayed for my living situation.  An apartment opened up in the building I wanted. (It was started by Sister Lila Greco).  I am so happy.  I just hope I get in there.  I go to see it tomorrow at 10 a.m.This really is hard to believe.  They told me it was so unlikely.  Thank you again.

    Laura what incredibly good news!!! And I believe this shows the power of the prayer of this group - I am so so happy for you!!!! Please let us know what happens when you see it, I will keep praying!

    Frank, I have no words to say how sorry I am. I simply do not know what to say except that you will be prayed for by me and all the others on this site.......if God can make an apartment open up where there was none, we can certainly ask Him to get you better and recovered again! I'm sure this was an awful mental blow - I cannot imagine how you must be feeling, please just know we are with you in sprit across the Pond.

    Theresa, thank you for what you wrote about imagining being in Mary and Jesus' house - you brought me to tears, in a good way.

    Sisters

    Thank you for those kind words. It is so comforting to know that others are thinking and praying for me. One of the things, which I maintain has helped me keep going and has gotten me this far is Prayer and in particular the prayers of others.

    On another note I'm going to have to phone the clinic this morning. Having a bit of difficulty swallowing, still a bit nauseous and have noticed slight blood staining on my hankie but other than that I'm coping with this new regime, am still attending my office and generally going about life as usual.

    Take care all.

    This is not part of the novena , but it is a writing of St. Francis that was written by him after he went blind.

    This beautiful prayer, hymn to creation, is by St. Francis of Assisi. It's called "The Canticle.________________________________________________________________

    Most high, all-powerful, all good, Lord! All praise is yours, all glory, all honour And all blessing.

    To you alone, Most High, do they belong. No mortal lips are worthy To pronounce your name.

    All praise be yours, my Lord, through all that you have made, And first my lord Brother Sun, Who brings the day; and light you give to us through him.

    How beautiful is he, how radiant in all his splendour! Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness.

    All praise be yours my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, And fair and stormy, all the weather's moods, By which you cherish all that you have made.

    All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Water, So useful, lowly, precious and pure.

    All praise be yours, my Lord, through Brother Fire, Through whom you brighten up the night. How beautiful is he, how gay! Full of power and strength.

    All praise be yours my Lord, through Sister Earth, our mother Who feeds us in her sovereignty and produces Various fruits with colored flowers and herbs.

    All praise be yours, my Lord, through those who grant pardon. For love of you; through those who endure Sickness and trial.

    Happy those who endure in peace, By you, Most High, they will be crowned.

    All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Death, From whose embrace no mortal can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin! Happy those She finds doing your will! The second death can do no harm to them.

    Praise and bless my Lord, and give him thanks, And serve him with great humility.

    To be started June 1st , 2012 ending on June 9th, 2012

    Novena of St. Francis
    NINE DAYS OF PRAYER IN ANY NECESSITY
    PETITIONING THE AID OF SAINT FRANCIS
    Prepared by the Franciscan Friars, T.O.R.

    A PRAYER FOR PEACE
    (To be said after every day's Novena)

    Lord, make me an instrument of peace
    Where there is hatred,Let me sow love;
    Where there is injury, pardon;
    Where there is doubt, faith;
    Where there is despair, hope;
    Where there is darkness, light;
    And where there is sadness, joy.
    O Divine Master grant that I may
    Not so much seek to be consoled
    As to console;
    To be understood,
    As to understand;
    For it is in giving that we
    Receive, it is in pardoning that
    We are pardoned.
    And it is in Dying that we are
    Born to Eternal life.

    DAY 1
    O God, come to my assistance.
    Prayer: Heavenly Father, You know all things and nothing is hidden from You. In Your mercy and kindness, and through the intercession of Saint Francis, come to my aid in my present distress and grant my humble petition (mention your request). Amen.
    Your offering today: Show your humility by doing a good deed for someone today. Conclude with the Prayer for Peace (top of page)

    Sheila- thank you for this novena - so many prayer intentions!  I pray God answers them all.  What I like about this Franciscan novena is the offering.  Francis was a do-er not so much a preacher.  Francis was not a priest (he was a deacon), but had the highest regard for the priests, bishops and Popes of his time.

    Cherilynn - you're welcome. :-)  I love meditative (pick Scripture passage to meditate upon, like in the rosary) and contemplative prayer.  Everyone has their own prayer style... my DD likes conversational prayer.  Our CCD class said rote opening prayers before class... the prayers they *should* know by heart.  Then for closing prayer, I was more open to teaching them all forms of prayer... from song, to meditation, to contemplation, novenas, intentions, etc.  (Never centering prayer)  I wanted them to know that prayer life is rich and very personal.

    Frank, yes indeed, knowing that others are holding you up in prayer is priceless!  It's what got me through cancer treatment too.  God bless our prayer warriors! God bless and heal you too.

    "Life is full of missed opportunities. We wanted to do so much, but ended up doing so little. Did we try, at least? Not everyone is born a Saint Francis of Assisi, or a Saint Teresa of Calcutta, or a St. Elizabeth of Hungary - all people who excelled in valuing the other person. It takes a lifetime, sometimes, to treat people as we're taught to treat them by these good saints."  Fred Schaeffer, OFS

    I am grateful for the saint's examples, especially the Virgin Mother, as they lead us, point us to Jesus.  They show us, concretely, in their everyday struggles how to say YES to God and provide us the roadmaps to get to our heavenly home... they might be saints pointing us to Scripture, to Tradition, to Humility, whatever special grace God gave them to communicate Himself to us through them.  We are called to do the very same thing.  That good deed we do comes from GOD, not from us.  With each act of kindness that we do for someone, we are bringing God to them.

    Pax et bonum!
