I'm in the market for a bible for reading/studying...does anyone have a recommendation? When I google it, of course there's millions of suggestions but I'm looking for one recommended by Catholics.

    Thanks!

the Navarre bible is pretty excellent because of the explaining of the scripture passages, it's a little pricey, but one of the better ones.

My heart and mind is troubled this am. I received a call from a close friend letting me know that one of the Judges I worked closely with is in hospice and will pass soon and another one, who was a fitness nut has been diagnosed with aggressive spinal cancer. Please pray for a peaceful passage home for Joe and for healing of Chuck. Chuck's wife has fought breast cancer twice and now it is in her blood.....

Judge Kelley passed last night. Judge Witte is in hospice now and the prognosis is 2-4 weeks. His daughters were home and resigned him from all his boards and wrote his obituary yesterday. I keep telling myself God loves him too much to leave him where he is, and he loves me too much for me to doubt that he will not provide for everyone's needs, but it doesn't make the tears stop or the child in me screaming that it is so unfair.

Redheaded so sorry to hear your pain, and for the Judge's family too. There is so much we don't understand here where we "see through a glass darkly". May God bless your dear friends and their families at this difficult time.

I am so excited I think I will burst. I just signed up to go on a 12 day pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February. This trip is being led by the Priest of our church who is an historian and crazy smart. The itinerary is jam-packed but we've been promised several surprise visits as well.

I heard that when he led a trip to Rome, he was able to get his parishioners into places in the Vatican that most people cannot. I just sent in my deposit and barring any unexpected health issues, (buy trip insurance) I cannot wait to go. The trips isn't full yet and they are accepting others from outside our church so if this is something you've ever wanted to do but needed a nudge, PM me and I'll get you details. Btw, double-occupancy is $3500 inclusive of airfare and 2 meals a day. There are some incidentals such as taxes and gratuity not included but at most a couple hundred more dollars.

I would love to meet some of my Catholic BC sisters, if you are so inclined! Smile

Amy that sounds like a trip of a lifetime and very reasonably priced. Air Fare alone is pretty steep for that type of trip.

You will have a wonderful time. Good for you!

BTW I got a great tip before going. You will not need it as you have your PP to organise this, but if you are going to Vatican solo always book in on a guided tour. Costs €30 or so but you skip the huge queues to get in if you are on a tour.

thanks for the well wishes ladies, however I'm going to Israel and walking in the footsteps of Jesus. We'll be seeing all hit sites and temples, birth place, burial, etc. Sorry for the confusion.

Holy Land has many interpretations so no blame needed...I should have been more specific but in either case, still an amazing opportunity and I can't wait to go. Just have to get progression in my spine under control...

Asking for prayers as I am facing surgery to remove a spinal disk behind my neck which is collapsed and is pressing on the nerves to my right arm. Have weakness and severe and and arm pain. The better of the two choices though as it is the same side of my breast cancer and we were afraid it had spread further. Surg date not until Dec 9 but hoping to get it moved up sooner.
