The Holy Land is a wonderful and inspiring trip, and I highly reccommend you take the opportunity and go. We went with a group from our parish, and the parish where one of our deacons works during the week last November. The priest who led the trip is retired from parish duties, but he is part of the Pave the Way group which is working with the Vatican and the Israeli government to secure access and confirm ownership of many of the Catholic holy sites. His familiarity with the sites helped enhance our trip, and running into one of his friends from Pave the Way led to us having a private tour of Napoleon's headquarters on the banks of the Mediterranean which is currently the rectory for the church where we had our last Mass of the tour.

Grammy,
Prayers that you get an earlier surgery date and that you find some relief from your pain.
AmyQ! Awesome news about your trip. I'm excited for you.

Thanks ladies. MRI tomorrow lets just pray no further growth of the lymph node iradiated in 2013. They already know about the collapsed discs so hoping this visit will include the nerve block the neuro discussed. My insurance approved surgery so just hoping it will be sooner. St Faustina will be watching over me I know.

Grammy R,
Praying that your MRI goes well and that your lymph node has not grown. Nerve block, nerve block, nerve block -- hope you get it!
Pray for my son who is struggling with mental illness/behavioral issues. He is 13 and has moderate-severe autism. Sometimes, I fear for my safety but I don't have the heart to put him in an institution. Fortunately, he has an awesome aide at school who is willing to work with him.

Prayers for you both. Grammy great news you have your approval.
ElaineTherese that is a truly difficult situation for you and all your loved ones. Thank God you have been blessed with such a terrific aide.

Grammy----prayers for safe successful surgery and speedy recoup.--I love Saint Faustina
Elaine--do you live alone with your son? I will pray for your situation as well. It concerns me that you do not feel safe.

Redheaded, no I live with my husband, 16 year old daughter, and my other son (who also has autism). DH and my daughter help out with my troubled son quite a bit. However, there are times when I'm alone with him that he is sometimes difficult to handle. Also, he periodically attacks me while I'm driving him home from school. We came thisclose to putting him in an institution, but I haven't had the heart to do it.

Women---we lead from our hearts. Elaine you have a beautiful one.

Thanks, Redheaded. Your kind words are a balm to me after a horrible day with my twins with autism. My "higher functioning" twin was very difficult to handle -- he was stalking this Dad and his young son in my neighborhood. Meanwhile, the more-troubled twin ended up staying home from school because his right foot was swollen -- no doubt due to the fact that he kicked me really hard the night before. All prayers are welcome!

Oh Elaine...I remember earlier when you said it was difficult to keep your son from acting out...I'm so sorry you're still dealing with that & that it looks like it probably won't change. How do you cope with it when it gets dangerous to family? My prayers and hope that there is someone/somewhere you can turn for help/answers...along with help from above in making decisions that are best for all. Bless your heart!
Egads Amy!!!! So excited for you & to have your priest lead the tour is fantastic. I thought it was Rome too...but only because you'd mentioned when he led an earlier group there...so Feline, you're off the hook for tamoxifen brain :-) and oh my...are you a darling family!!!!
As for Grammy...just an FYI that I am so blessed to be neighbors (about 3 miles away) with my sister!!! When we're together, it's like we've known each other forever...and her beautiful spirit & faith are an inspiration-always! We share grandkids the same age & so many thoughts, joys & concerns...although she's an amazingly gifted seamstress/quilter, I'm a very accomplished tv watcher! I wish we were all neighbors...we could share a cup of tea & have that feeling that you really understand what's going on. Prayers for Grammy & all :-)

RonnieKay,
Thanks for your prayers and kind thoughts! We have actually fixed up my son's room as a safe place for him to chill out. When he starts to lose it, we get him to go up to his room (which only contains a bed now), and tie his door shut. When he calms down, we let him out. Actually, I find that prayer helps me respond to him calmly and without anger. It helps me stay calm and maintain serenity. I can't necessarily change him, but I can change the way I respond to him.
Grammy,
Any news about your surgery?

Ronnie-Kay - So nice to see you yesterday even though a short time. We are both soccer grandma's -even when its pouring rain- ha. I am bkessed to have a friend like you.
I finally will get the nerve block this coming Thursday. Not sure how well it will work as they will use only low dose steriod w/numbing medicine added as steriod has risk of increasing cancer growth. Disc surgery Dec 9.
ElaineThere- please don't wait until you are seriously injured before getting outside help for your son even if it includes removing him from your home. It may only be for short-term until he stabilizes some. Does he get some medication to help w/the outbursts? I will pray for a solution.
Prayers and hugs to all of you.Out west here it is chilly and rainy this weekend. Kind of miss those hot Florida days a little.

This 3 minute video was sent to me by a friend here on BCO. It is not specifically Catholic but speaks to anyone who believes in God (which is a huge number of people from all religions) and is aimed at Christians.
It is a 3 minute walk in the streets around the White House looking at some monumental signs of faith in God

Hi ladies -alas surgery did not happen as a new and debiltaing symptom took over. The neurosurgeon said disc surgery would not help in my case. My right arm became paralyzed except for the wrist and hand itself . I have bad neuropathy pain in it but able to get by w/less pain med now. Sleep is still erratic but w/ the help of many prayers I will get thru this. I am back to the neurologist who did tests last week. Ifs either a rare neurological disease or caused by the radiation to that shoulder in 2013. I am praying for answers. Back in 2008 both my legs became too weak to walk and I wore leg braces for 5 years. I recoverd enough leg strength back in 2014 to walk even w/out a cane. Was doing well at the gym until hand pain got severe, now have one more hurdle to jump. My labs and cancer markets are good and lesion under collar bone now gone. Yes am blessed on this one. Problem is I am right handed so cannot drive safy w/one hand only. Personal care is slow and tiring and fixing dinner has had to change as I cannot chop veggies anymore. I hope to start some OT soon and perhaps find some tools that may help. Cannot get lids of cans either. My DIL stops by a lot and picks up groceries for me. I see the neuro again on Dec 23 to see if he is able to figure this all out- so far nothing concrete. I will either slowly improve or not. Its up to Our Lord now. I am taking the practical side and stated to look at ALFs . My son is hoping to buy a larger home next summer w/ space enough for me too. My quilting is on hold as I adjust to my situation. I think it may have to be jigsaw puzzle making now. Your prayers will not go unanswered I know. I am blessed to be able to see and enjoy my two grandkids this Christmas and enjoy their excitement.
Have a glorious and blessed Christmas all of you and I will be back in New Year with better news I'm sure.

GrammyR!
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your arm. But, I am glad to read that your son and DIL are helping out. I loved jigsaw puzzles when I was a teenager; I used to do those complex ones with 1000 pieces. Hope you get some fun puzzles for Christmas! Praying that your arm gets better soon! A blessed Christmas to you and yours.

For those of you in pain, or suffering other issues - I recently went to confession and brought up my anger, depression, etc.. about the chronic pain that my treatments have left me with - he suggested that I thank God for allowing me to have it, so that I can feel a portion of what He felt for us. In the past I've offered up the pain, etc... but never thanked God for allowing me to have it, when I truly do thank God for it, I've seen a huge difference towards the positive in the way I deal with the pain. Just something I wanted to pass along. Wishing you all a blessed Christmas.

Linda thank you for sharing that wisdom. That is definitely the model of the apostles and the saints. God bless you and thank God you found some good counsel that hjas helped. Wishing you a blessed Christmas too.

Grammy, so sorry that you did not receive the relief you had hoped.
Thank God for your son and DIL's love.
Great news on your lesion and cancer markers.
Have a lovely time with your grandchildren. Children really do bring the truest parts of Christmas into our lives - the magic (Santa Claus) and the miracle (the nativity, God in the manger).
DD (10) and I were part of a group carol singing for our local cancer support group on Saturday. I so heartened by the number of people who stopped to listen and give.
It was the same 2 weeks earlier when I was collecting for Saint Vincent de Paul. Hardly anyone passes by without giving. If they do pass by they often apologise that they have no cash with them and say "I'll come back to you" and then do. This is my experience every year I have collected for them.
It is so good to see the ordinary kindness of strangers.
Irish society's values have shifted profoundly from when I was a child, even from what they were 20 or 15 years ago. Ireland, coming later to anti-life culture, is currently in full gallop so the pace of change has been shockingly rapid. It is so good to see that "society" is one thing, but the majority of people individually are as they ever were, good and well meaning.
Mary and Joseph were ordinary people too. They lived in very turbulent and imperfect times. They too experienced the kindness of strangers.
A peaceful blessed and happy Christmas to all.
