Hope everyone's Mother's Day was special. DD#1 stopped by for a visit with a beautiful flat of flowers. She usually gives me a planter full but we decided on something different this year. A mixture that I can plant myself in my own planter & in a flower bed near my back door. I love working (& playing) in the black dirt.

My DD#2 called me & I could hear my grandchildren in the background... Mommy this & Mommy that. She is a wonderful Mommy herself. I unwrapped a beautiful new sofa pillow that she bought for me (I picked it out) the last time we were together. Yes, I kept it until today to open.

DH was going to buy me flowers & I told him not to spend the money on something that dies, I would prefer another type of flowers. My choice: a scarf with beautiful flowers & said, "Now I have flowers that will last forever."

DH took me out to dinner Saturday for Mother's Day & for us to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. I don't usually share this sort of information but since it was for the big 4-0, thought I would. 40 years.... seems like forever..... & I don't mean that in a bad way.... but..... don't y'all wonder what it would have been like if you hadn't married... or married the one you did??? Are you happy with your choice?? Believe me, just between us, I have thought about it..... Do these feelings come with being Middies???

I spent part of Mother's Day in the MRI machine. But DS did accompany me (and slept in the car while I was insde). He did get me a nice certificate for a mani/pedi though. DH surprised me on Fri and had all the dishes done, laundry going, etc and had a chicken on the rotisserie for dinner (with homemade stuffing) - unfortunately he forgot to put a pan underneath to catch the drippings. The bbq caught fire - its on our front porch which has a roof overhead - and the flames were shooting out everywhere. The first thing he could think of was to push the bbq off of the porch and onto the lawn. Needless to say we had pizza for supper.

mac - can't wait to hear of your next adventure! You go girl!

hns -  I, for one, am worn out from helping my son help me, haha. Ya gotta love em don't ya?

Val - 40 yrs? Congratulations. I too often wonder where I would be if I hadn't married my DH - and there were times were I thought I was going to find out. But we have come a long way and I know he loves me with all of his heart. I can't imagine not having our DS also.

Congratulations, Val.  40 years is a quite an accomplishment.

We went to my mother's for dinner on Mother's Day because my son was on call and could not leave the area to come to our home.  His wife came for about an hour and left, but DS2 and his entourage came.  We cooked for my mom, and had a great day.  DH got me a plant and a mani/pedi.  He must have noticed how bad my toes look.  I've been so busy I have forgone the nail polish remover and have layered my colors as needed.  (Not recommended)

Yesterday, I got my crepes after all (made by my DH.)   Then my boys took over...  They still didn't have a plan,so first we took some pictures with each of them wearing their "Mom" shirts (their renditions of my face on a shirt) that they made in pre-school about 20 year ago.  (The faces could not look more different.)

Then, I had them take me to the art museum (you can go through ours in an hour,)  after which we stopped at a nearby flower park (I'm in the "no expensive flowers club" too,) and on the way home we stopped to get Orange Julius, which finally came to my city so it had been about 15 years since I had one of those. Later, my husband made some mahi-mahi and we sat down to a family dinner.  Considering that I probably won't see my older boy on Mother's Day for the next five years (grad. school,) it felt very special and good.

    Love all the pizza stories!

Val, my 36th anniv'y is tomorrow. And I confess to thinking about how life would have been different. Thought it more than once actually! But then I count my blessings, at least till the next time I daydream!

Wow, some long time relationships here!!! Congrats on all the anniversaries.

I am having trouble sleeping again.

I often think of how my life would have been different if I hadn't made some of my choices. But have finally come to the conclusion that I have learned many life lessons and would not have the life I have now without that education. I am truly blessed with two wonderful (most of the time) kids.

barsco, LOL with the flaming bbq. This is when you say it was the thought that counts and thank heaven no one was hurt.

hns, my son said to me this weekend that when he gets married (no prospects yet) his poor wife will have a tough road to hoe. I wisely said nothing. B/c I think it is he that will have to do some compromising (read changing). Ahh, they have their own life lessons to learn. He has just applied to an online grad school so I think he is anxious about it and that is why he was so moody this weekend.

My DD comes tomorrow for a 2 week visit. It is slush season in CO so she has over a month off from work. We'll have some fun. I wonder what adventure awaits..........

Off to BS today to find out about my little lumpy friend. Lots of room for anyone who wants to join in. It's an early one so you might want to bring a coffee. However, lots of time for shopping afterwards in lovely Stratford ON. I love Stratford. If anyone knows Stratford at all you will understand. Home of the Shakespeare Festival.

Hope everyone finds reason to smile today!

marlegal, Wishing you a happy celebration today...Happy Anniversary!  I come from a long line of late bloomers and won't get to my 25th til next year.

Barsco,  I'm up early and going along for the ride.  I might just curl up in a corner of that pocket since I only had three hours sleep last night.  Chemo Day night is the worst for sleeping, what with the steroid dose and then the tubing from that home pump.  Will be anxiously awaiting the benign-ity of your lump.

I haven't checked, but I can imagine ther might be a whole thread about it by now...any thought here about the Angelina Jolie mastectomy announcement today?

I was right about the AJ thread.  I wrote this:

...AJ was high risk, could afford the test, made a personal choice, and also could afford some of the best possible care; would any of us knowing women here have done differently?  The fact that she went public, so what?  She was honest.  It's her story to tell.  She does not need "the press" off of this...she could take her kids to the In-N-Out Burger and the media would cover it.  I think her story is that B/C is a real and present danger, out there for for all women and that even those leading charmed celeb lives are not exempt.

Barsco - I'm in for a ride. Just on first cup o coffee so beware of some spills ladies. Benign lumpy thoughts only. OH and shopping after. WHEE - here I come. Flaming BBQ story - glad it turned out OK. Dumping on the ground sounds like what my DH would do, too. We've thought of getting a fire pit for the patio but it's all sheet metal roof. Otherwise its kinda grass/dandelions/whatever green comes up. Sooo - no fire pit here though not needed. Grass fire season has returned to Texas.

Eli - I'm just amazed at how they kept her privacy. Very admirable. Wonder if she's having ooph too. Hope it does some thought provoking proding of some women.

Mac - I have a DD that will NEVER find a guy and she's only 25. I don't think she could adapt to another human living with her. She tolerates 1-2 nights here and then her cats are a good excuse to get home. Enjoy your time with DD.

Happy Anniversary marlegal. And to Val also. Some big milestones here. We celebrated #37 in March.

Eli, agree with you about AJ. I am no particular fan, but I thought her op-ed was low-key and to the point.

(Correction) Barsco, Forgot to say I did get a chuckle out of you back porch BBQ story.  Quick thinking and a quick shove probably saved you from fire damage or at least a greasy black smoke stain on the covered porch.

Eli - Thanks for the story credit but that was Barsco's DH and her smoky almost torched porch. LOL. Mine does it in the yard and did steaks for me for Mother's Day. I managed oven potatoes and cole slaw after a day of outside chores and an ant fight on my back entrance tile.

Barsco, here we go again, late jumping in.  Yet again your pockets overfloweth, so sorry ladies to displace a few of you in the process.  But aren't the pastries devine?

Eli, I hope your chemo effects take it easy over the next few days...

Eli - I like your yummies better than the old cinnamon/raisin bagel I just wolfed down. Great with my coffee. Good thing that we only have in town is 3, yes 3, donut shops for our little size. I love the shell shaped things with chocolate. I just ordered English muffin rings from Amazon. Ambitious, eh?

I feel like a rolled up potato bug down here in the corner of the pocket.  Let me UP! I need to get at those bite-sized goodies.

I think Angelina Jolie is one brave girl!  I am certain that eventually we will see her fund something for BRCA or breast/uterine cancer.  I am also certain that because of her influence & bringing this issue to the forefront for awhile, the news will save lives of those who were unaware of BRCA or thought they could be immune, etc.  She is not necessarily a favorite of mine before, but I admire her stand in some areas.

Well, finally home after a long day away. But it was a good day! Thanks for all of the company and Eli, what delicious little treats. Is this what you do when you can't sleep on Chemo Day night? I sure hope that you were able to get some rest in the corner of the pocket today and that you start to regain your strength with each passing minute.

And the verdict is (drumroll please)................................................BENIGN!   Thanks for all of your thoughts and support.

A footnote on the flaming BBQ - My DH was burned quite seriously in an industrial accident about 20 yrs ago and has quite an aversion to flare ups - thus the panic mode. We were able to laugh about it after a while as DS described what he saw upon arriving home after work that day. "BBQ on it's side, chicken (still on rotisserie) a few feet away and the propane tank nearby" - I can just imagine what was going through his head.

Whoop, whoop, whoop, for you barsco!!!  I got a little nap in so I'd have enough energy to get out a few good hoots & hollers for ya!

Benign, YAY for Barsco. Wow, I can see where your DH is coming from with the BBQ. I've thought about getting a small propane unit but I'm a chicken about fire.

    Celebrate tonight!

Eli - thanks for using up some of that "hard to come by" energy on those hoots and hollers. It means a lot.

Luv - celebrated all day for sure. thx

Jo - thx for the cheer. DH is also a bit of a control freak when it comes to things like fire. I think he feels safer if he is in control rather than trusting someone else with it.

As for the AJ story - I am still unsure what to think about it all.Maybe I am a bit miffed that she has the money and status to take advantage of the testing and procedures that she did, jealous that she gets all of the attention because of what she is going through and that there are so many women out there that can't "afford" to have bc.  Don't get me wrong, I am glad that she is able to reduce her risk by so much with having a bmx. I would not wish this disease on anybody.  I do hope that she will use her celebrity status and perhaps some of her wealth to do more than just advise the public about her tx and experience. I sure hope she gets the word out about what breast cancer really is and can be. That not all procedures work as well as hers has, that reconstruction sometimes doesn't work for some, that there is a good many SEs from meds, procedures, and the toll that it takes on all of those affected. And that there is NO CURE for bc.

I think that I am really just pissed that I didn't have opportunity to stop the beast in it's tracks before it took over my life.
