Eph, I tried one year for the fishing retreat, so now I get their mailing each year.  I was very disappointed to see that, this year, the retreat locations are more sparse and limited than in the past, so that it would be hard for some people to even get to (or afford to get to) the locations.  :-(  Can't believe you have never been up to Seattle.  You will have a great time!!!!!

Eph3_12, congratulations on the big event! Sounds like you're doing it in style! I've wanted to do our local relay for life, it's usually been on Fathers' Day weekend so that hasn't worked out. Just found out our city had it last weekend - I missed it. I'm not very out-going so I had asked a friend (who's had BC to let me know) and she never did. I didn't want to do it alone. Maybe next year.

Barbe, wow, great you did the walk with the cane and didn't use that as an excuse (I probably would have)

Elimar, I didn't understand the 2nd cancer comment - if I'm not too nosy, second BC or other CA?

Lovewins, congrats on the new job and sorry it's so tiring. Hopefully, will be joining shortly too with the new job.

Wirdgirl, good to see you here

So, after hours of waiting at the hospital for my DD to go into surgery. She is finally in and I am waiting for updates.

While we were waiting we were watching some show called Ink something or other. It was some competition between tattoo artists. They had some BC surviors on that were getting their chests tattooed. The network actually showed their breasts. I guess if there are no nipples, they don't count as nakedness? The tats were pretty. But I don't think I would go through the pain.

macatacmv, praying the surgery goes well. (Did I read it right, she's just going into surgery at this late hour?) Wishing you both get some sleep tonight. Sending ((hugs)) to both of you!

2TA,  Last year, I got a Dx of colorectal cancer (CRC) totally unrelated to BC.  My chemo experience comes from that (although one element of my chemo is also given for BC, the fluorouracil, so I feel somewhat qualified to comment about it.)

For those in suspense (like I have been since last Friday,) I did get a phone call telling me that my CT (chest/ab/pelvis---lots of radiation!) looked "stable."  Since all scans after my surgery were cancer-free, this means I am STILL cancer-free, only now I have a (surprise!) fatty liver.  Since I have none of the things that generally lead a person to fatty liver, I can only guess that this is a chemo-bonus or something.  Well, it's a condition that can reverse itself, so my liver better get busy.  I baby my liver, the least it could do is get back in shape now.

i hope your liver behaves itself elimar! i have been depressed lately, i don't know why. so today i will put on lipstick earrings perfume, and then decide what i will do. i havent even been combing my hair lately, so maybe that will help.

Elimar, so sorry to read that. Thanks for the clarification (I think I started reading all the posts from the beginning when I joined this thread but not everything sticks these days). I should say your chemo experience counts in the discussion regardless of specific drug or cause. However you put it: CHEMO SUCKS! Even if it is helpful. Congrats on stable.

Kathec, I've had those days. My life is very frustrating at times (like now, been trying to get health ins thru ACA/CoveredCA as COBRA running out. So many problems. Should have kicked in May 1st but comedy of errors prevents it (errors on their part, not ours). Have been on hold over an hour so happy to have BCO). Bottom line: there are days I don't get out of my pj's. Hopefully, you can make a trip to the beach soon. Winking

I have a fatty liver, too and haven't had alcohol for 5 1/2 years so they know it's not alcohol induced. Pisses me off no end!!! Why get something (else) that I didn't do anything wrong for????

    elimar Member Posts: 5,886

Looking back, at the very end of my chemo my AST and ALT were elevated, indicating impaired function to the liver.  My CT in Sept. did say "hypoattenuating lesions" which was probably a reference to the changes in the liver, although it was not yet steatosis (fatty liver) at that point.  Fatty liver is official when more than 5-10% of the liver is fat.  So sometimes between Sept. and May, my liver put on a little weight.  I may not get to know just HOW fatty it is. I have to say if it is something like 6%, big deal; if it is more like 11%...well, that is one little hepatic heifer!

In reading I found 10% - 20% of people (>age 50) have the condition, caused by alcoholism or metabolic disorder (diabetes, obesity, hypertension) or whatever; and the condition can reverse if the underlying cause is treated.  The main remedy is to quit drinking (I don't) and lose weight (I lost 20 lbs. on chemo and only put 10 lbs. back, so come on!)  I think I just have to ride this out.  Maybe go on a low-fat diet to some extent.

BTW, Tamoxifen causes the condition in some people.  I don't think that played a part in mine, but I just thought I would pass that along as so many here are on that drug.  Don't everyone start getting a fatty liver now, on my account but, if you are getting scans, your liver might surprise you in this way one day.  All part of the collateral damage that just keeps on coming.  Boo!

I am feeling pretty good about my latest CT.  Got my kids thinking that mom is just a HUMAN BOBO DOLL.

Elimar - Maybe you need one of those kids bop em sock em things your self. Kinda sounds like a good stress relief much better than those squeezy balls (you can tell I have NO idea what they are called). Must admit I never heard of BoBo Doll (sounds vaguely vulgar Winking). Here, don't you want to play with my BoBo Doll??

Lyvmy, there is a genre of porn called "clown porn." Apparently some people have a clown fetish.

I don't remember having it at all, but there's a picture of me when I was about 4 years old with my older brother, and that exact same Bobo doll in the above picture!  Creepy!

Oh, Momine!  LOL!  These weren't fetish clowns (which I have no familiarity with.)  These were toys that taught young children how to punch, kick and shove a depiction of a happy, innocent figure; you know, the skills we must master to reach adulthood.  These clowns had sand in the bottom so they always righted themselves no matter how much abuse was inflicted on them.  That's how I feel...knocked down (by cancer,) but wobbling back up into the upight position.  (Cue the Chumbawumba music.)

Leave it to Momine to bring up the crazy clown sex!  (Still LOL!)

Eli- There is hope for your fluffy liver.  If you recall, blood tests I had last December revealed that my ALT and AST level were elevated.  I immediately blamed Tam, because I rarely drink alcohol and take no meds other than Tam.  But my onc ordered tests a couple of months ago, and "poof,"  my levels are well within normal ranges now.  I've not changed any eating, drinking or drug taking habits, so I just chalk it up to either a bad test in Dec (is that possible?) or that my liver wants to be good.  "Good little liver..."

Who knew before getting BC that I would ever become aware that my liver was pudgy?  Among a myriad of other things...

SnS,  Adding to my surprise about the fatty liver was that my ALT and AST were normal at the last blood draw in March.  The way I see it is that there is no reason why my liver can't get back to it's former svelte figure, but I won't have a way to really know what is going on in there until the next CT I have in about a year.  It is an asymptomatic, and not-too-serious condition; therefore, I think it is best that I kind of "forget about it" and just keep working on my overall well-being.

ELIMAR! tooo funny, your response to what those clown doll were used for! All i want to know is, how do you know that it was sand in the bottom? you must have gone a little further than punching and kicking etc .. and... acually... maybe... STABBED... one?!?

I remember the punching clown. I had one!!  The nose would honk whenever you punched it. Wish I had one of those now !!

    Lol

Our punching clown was Bozo the Clown.  Maybe a bit before some of you were ready to punch.  I can verify the sand because I remember my brother cutting open the bottom of one to see what was inside.

I don't remember my actual brutality, but I am still busted for knowing about the sand.

All you behavioral psychology buffs out there can read about the Bobo Doll Experiment here.  There is a You Tube video as well.

hi everyone, just checking in and catching up. I've been busy taking care of DD. Yes, she went into surgery at 9pm. and didn't get done until 2am. But she got a great hip revision. The doc did the "whole nine yards" . Now she has a continuous motion machine, an ice machine and pumps for her calves. She had something called Legg-Perthes when she was young that affected the ball joint in her left hip. Hopefully this will give her some pain free years. She'll be on crutches for 9 weeks. This was her 5th surgery since 2nd grade. We are staying in a studio hotel room with a kitchenette and I get to wait on her hand and foot. But today I took a walk by the Eagle River while she was at her morning PT session.

I remember those clown dolls.  Didn't everyone cut open the bottom to see what was in there? The same with the stretch armstrong. We had to find out what was in there, too. How about the rock n sock em robots?

Sorry about your fat liver, eli. Hope it gets back on it's best behavior.

Mac....I had Legg-Perthes too. I wore a full leg brace when I was 4 wore it for a year I remember the crazy looking shoe. That hip is fine, my problem is now my left hip.....I hope your daughter heals well with no more complications....
