Excellent article, Lilac. Thanks for sharing. It struck a nerve as I wrote my sister’s obituary and used the “courageous battle” phrase not thinking what it implies. It has become such a part of our lexicon. I am glad people are trying to change the verbiage. My sister was 45 with a ten year old son when she “died from a terminal illness.” Euphemisms make us feel better but do not tell the real story.0

I don't mind swearing. In honor of every one of my loved ones and all of yours that has died from cancer and/or suffered through their own cancer and/or suffered through watching loved ones with cancer - STUPID FUCKING CANCER.

Peregrinelady, I hear ya and struck a nerve with me too. I'm so sorry to read of your sister's death and her young son without his mother. Survivorship is another that can be jettisoned yet what can you replace it with? When faced with writing about cancer, perhaps to the public on a website or, like you composing your sister's obituary, and I reach for the current phrasing, that faux glorifies than what reality is. I've been working with and around breast cancer advocacy long enough to see the slow changes taking shape and how we talk of death from cancer, has not gotten much lift. The topic is sensitive, so uncomfortable for many that we prefer to skirt around the using vague terms and euphemisms. I read obituaries and always check to see how they have died and if it's cancer - how they have written about it. Long time battle with cancer is used frequently. Over the past year, I've read, 'taken their own life' more, instead of saying nothing of how they died and not yet read the word suicide in print. It is tricky to discuss and perhaps it's own thread, than here, yet a worthy conversation none the less.
Verminster, in the UK, by 2030 it's claimed that half of the entire population will have or have had cancer. So I'm with you on saying out loud, STUPID FUCKING CANCER.

Hugs to all, I also hate the lost the battle crap, Rachel's blog is very moving.
Have been fighting my slowly healing sprained ankle, but have been exercercising with it taped or in a compression sleeve...will have to work through this as it appears I am heading back to surgery and want to lose those final lbs (now less than 10) before I go back for my revision...
...had an MRI today, tomorrow is 1 year since EX, but it has been nearly 3 years since last mammogram or MRI of left breast/remaining left breast tissue.
Well after my disaster exchange -- too large, textured vs smooth, bruised for months and there is still a quarter sized bruised area my GYN calls an echymosis. The MRI found remaining fluid in the pocket, ugh. As it is a textured implant the concern for the lymphoma issue required aspiration/investigation.
When I said to the Dr that I was already investigating an EX to a smooth round at the holidays...she said I could wait on the aspiration if I actually do proceed with the EX. So I guess my card has been played, off to revision city.
I called the new PS that several folks have suggested, now 1.5 hrs away...they will call back with their first available appointment later today or Monday. The receptionist actually said before she would take a consult appointment she would confer with the surgery scheduler...I was like, what - shouldn't I have a consult before scheduling surgery! I guess if they know they don't have space for months on their surgery calendar, they don't take investigation appointments??? Don't know, will report when I know more.
Ugh, the circle begins again...but more inspiration to keep on exercising!
Happy weekend. TT

Thinking of buying a treadmill. Any recommendations. Really prefer walking outside, but as the days get shorter it is harder to walk before work.
Have a good week-end.

Karen, a treadmill is a very good thing to buy for working people in a cold climate. I would advise to get a good one. We did, and used it a lot before we retired (not so much now that we have a more flexible schedule). Get whatever extras that will make you more likely to use it. We got one with a fan and a TV (it has some other bells & whistles but those were the only ones I cared about).
I went to school, scanned some more books & then got a text that some friends are coming through town tomorrow and will be stopping by our house. This kicked my 'gee, I should clean the house sometime this weekend' thoughts into high gear......so I zoomed home & cleaned until it was time to go to a high school football game. Now I'm home again and need to march around the house for 800 steps to reach the 10,000 mark!

Lilac, that article needs to be seen everywhere.
Pergrinelady, I am so sorry to hear of your sister's passing, and that she said goodbye to her son when he was just a boy. It's heartbreaking. Holding you all in the light.0 -

Thanks, Ruth.
Going for a run this morning.

Thanks for the meme Ruth. Trmtab, do keep us in the loop, sorry to read of the trouble you have with fluid build-up. If we had room, I buy a treadmill too.
I want to see the Dr. this am and on pain and muscle relaxant meds. Cancelling classes for tomorrow and lying low. It's pressure on the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve that is creating a awful burning sensation. It's pretty severe and driving me nuts. Rarely do I get sick or injured to this degree - ugh. I feel so out of sorts and admitting - sitting on the pity pot!

Took the grand-dog for a walk in the woods this morning. Push mowed the lawn Thursday, taking an hour break in the middle to fix the right rear wheel that fell off because the bolt broke in half. DH has been gone on a hunting trip so fortunately for me he had bought an extra bolt last time he performed the same repair. The mower's well over 30 years old and starts up each spring on the first pull so when the wheels fall off we fix 'em!
Work is super busy so the only targeted workouts I fit in are still my Tuesday/Thursday classes at the gym. 90 minutes total each day with 45 minutes body sculpt and 45 minutes Core de Force. Other than that it's occasional yard work, dog walks and the ever present housework.
Looking forward to a 'relaxing' break with the girls in Nashville next month.....lol!

Today I have covered over 16000 steps. I'm recovering from AC chemo, starting THP next week. I hope I will be able to keep up with the walking.

Got up early, walked, did some abs and yard work. We had a great afternoon with our old friends. They used to live here, so we drove around looking at all the new and old sights, plus visited out on the deck and had a yummy early dinner. I had the enjoyable and unusual experience of sitting around doing nothing after they left!

Saturdays are always good walking days....Need to be up early tomorrow to walk and then I have lots to do to cook and clean for Rosh Hashanna which begins tomorrow at sundown. I have my menu planned and grocery shopping mostly done. Need a quick run to Costco. We only have 1 guest and that is Monday lunch. So my cooking is for Sunday dinner and lunch Monday and Tuesday. Dinners will be light - salad and tuna or smoked salmon. Not sure if I'll get to check in tomorrow - if not, I'll be back Tuesday night or Wednesdays.

LB, sorry to hear ur on injured reserve. You're not one for laying around so it must be frustrating. ((hugs))
Also crazy busy at work but we hired two new people. Once trained, they will help alleviate the workload.
Been walking at lunch time and after work. We're having a super-nice stretch of weather so it's a pleasure to be outside. Hard to motivate going to the gym when I'd rather mow the lawn.
Happy New Year, Karen!

A quick check-in; I am off to yoga followed by POUND. Ideally it would be the other way around, but since I'm not in charge of scheduling, I'll do it their way.

Yesterday all I managed was a dog walk because I got my hair cut and went to the store. Today I mowed one hour and then took the dog for a walk. We have a beautiful sunny 65 degree day today. After heat and humidty and then rain rain rain, it is a welcome change.

Happy new year Karen!

Went on a bumpy bike ride yesterday with DD and DH. Will post pics when my phone is finished charging.

Thanks HeidiHill & Badger. Had an orthopedic consult this afternoon that included hip x-ray. All within normal limits, no arthritis present and have an MRI scheduled tomorrow for mid-day. Narrowed diagnosi sto L3 disc (which I don't think it is) or meralgia paresthetica, I'll not know the results until next week. Have a good start to the week everyone.

Lilac - hope the MRI shows the cause so you can start getting treated and get relief.
Badger & Two - envy you your nice weather. We’ve had almost 8” of rain in the last 48 hours. Managed to get to the gym today for a cardio circuit, but other than that have been holed up reading books. Too gloomy to do anything else!
Heidi - love the pic of you and your quacky friend.
Everyone who may in Florence’s path, take care and be safe. Looks like it may be a bad one.

Lilac, I hope you find relief- glad to hear no arthritis- that's a tough one. My PT uses osteopathic techniques and boy did that feel good.
Heidihill- sweet photo sharing.
Stay safe, Southern sisters.

Hope all you East Coast gals stay safe! Be smart & heed the warnings. My N.C.sister was stocking up on groceries when I called her this afternoon & DS is heading for Florida on Saturday......so, yikes!
Fun picture with your feathered friend, Heidi.
Hope they can figure out how you should proceed, Lilac.
More book scanning for me, although I did take an hour off for a dental appointment (it's bad when you look forward to a trip to the dentist just to get out of some work!). Tonight I went to Zumba and then a spaghetti dinner which was a fundraiser for the high school cross-country team. Hmmmm......support a good cause and not cook dinner both.... a win/win situation

Lilac-I hope you are up and around soon. It’s hard to be injured when it affects your job too.
It rained a lot today and it seems like it will be worse tomorrow. I haven’t seen the latest storm track. Stay safe everyone.

LB, I checked Dr. Google and found this as a suggested treatment for meralgia p.: Titanium dioxide patches to interfere with the electrostatic effect of the nerves on the surface of the skin. Maybe worth a try, at least to relieve the burning sensation, until you know the results?
Zumba yesterday.

Found this time-waster on exercise, but thought worth sharing. A few things I didn't know.
In case I need any more motivation to keep moving. My exercise ball awaits..... - Claire
p.s. I consider having to replace both pairs of running shoes recently a sign of progress. You can't up your distance without paying in some way, and I did get my money's worth

S&S good to see you! Thanks Falconer, Ruth, Mary and HeidiHill (like the ducky photo) - merci beaucoup and did look up more using what you offered and found this information: https://edsinfo.wordpress.com/2015/09/14/thigh-pain-meralgia-paresthetica/
Had the MRI and the woman who administered it has attended my Friday pilates class. Anyway, I'm well rested and trying to go back tomorrow afternoon to work. Took son out when I got home for new things he needed for university, like a set dishes, cutlery, new duvet. DH has been at a race track all day using what I gave him last year for xmas; a day out driving experience, driving three different super cars. DH is a car enthusiast and hope he comes home one happy camper for the thrill of it. Off to get jamie oliver recipe chicken kievs ready to bake.
Edited to add: We just watched how awful it is...please stay safe if you are in hurricane florence path.

So I am finally back to trying to exercise regularly after meniscus repair surgery in late May with rehab, and then hand surgery in August- severed two flexor tendons. I am working with a trainer one day per week, and trying to walk and do strength training the other days. I am a former runner (hope to be able to get back to it). In my quest for different and fun ways to build/maintain my fitness I just ordered a pair of Kangoo Jumps from Amazon,. They are boots (similar looking to ski boots) that sit atop springs. I have seen you tubes with people doing group fitness classes and running with the Kangoo Jumps and it looks like so much fun. The bonus is they are supposed to reduce the stress to knees and lower back (I will let you know if this is true for me),
Anyway, today was one hour with the trainer at the gym, and hopefully later on maybe a walk.
Edited to add: I cannot wait for the Kangoo Jumps to get here!
