Life - I had joint the whole time I was on AIs. I quit after 3.5 years. Some people the side effects go away. Ask your onc to try a different AI. It might be better for you. I've been off AIs for 8.5 years. I see my onc on Monday for m 6 month check up. Hug to you.

Thanks, Karen. Great suggestion to walk during the school day, especially when it starts getting dark earlier. I could actually walk home at lunch time, since I live very close to the school.

Saw New Bern on the news, Wonderland. I feel sorry for those who felt they couldnt leave, and hope everyone in the path can stay safe. My only relatives in the area are well upstate SC.

Karen I love The Sound of Music too. That is the first movie I ever saw and I played the album over and over.

Falconer and Wonderland, I had poison ivy once and to this day I dont know how I got it. Its realy a mystery.

I went for a walk with the dog today after work. It was really smokey out so i dont think either one of us enjoyed it that much but i got my minutes in.

India's 102-Year-Old Female Runner Wins Gold Medal In Masters Athletics Race

Man Kaur, a Sikh centenarian, just won (another) track and field competition.
Man Kaur celebrates after competing at the World Masters Games in New Zealand last year.
Kaur celebrates after competing at the World Masters Games in New Zealand last yearA 102-year-old Indian woman has earned yet another world championship medal after running a 200-meter race in Spain this week.

Man Kaur, from Chandigarh, India, may have been the only person in her age and gender bracket to participate in the World Masters Athletics Championships, but her gold medal is still proof that this great-grandmother is not satisfied with resting on her laurels.

The champion Sikh runner has claimed at least 32 gold medals since she took up running in 2009, according to NPR. She picked up several prizes at World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand, last year.

This week, she joined 8,000 other athletes from over 100 countries to compete in track and field events in Malaga, Spain. Kaur finished the 200-meter race with a time of 3 minutes, 14 seconds on Sunday. She also participated in the javelin competition on Monday.

The 102-year-old athlete said she tries to stay healthy by exercising often and avoiding junk food.

Kaur was born in 1916, NPR reports, years before India's independence from the British Empire. She grew up in the then-kingdom of Patiala in northwest India, which was later absorbed into the state of Punjab. She worked as a nanny for one of Patiala's queens and later became a cook.

Kaur now has three children, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. It was one of her kids, Gurdev Singh, who encouraged her to start racing.

Singh, who is also a competitive runner, told the Associated Press in 2016 that he had a feeling his mother could become a star. He said to her, "You have no problem, no knee problem, no heart problem, you should start running."

Today, Kaur sticks to a strict wellness regimen. She tries to go to a track near her home in Chandigarh every day to complete runs between 30 and 200 meters long. In the case of bad weather, she goes to the gym to lift weights.

Kaur also follows a healthy diet, filling up on lentils, nuts, boiled vegetables and chapati, an unleavened flat bread that is a staple part of the South Asian diet. She drinks soy milk, kefir and fresh juice.

Her advice for younger folk ― pretty much all of us ― is to exercise often and stay away from junk food.

"If you take junk food, then how can you run?" she said to the Press Trust of India last year. "I avoid fried food."

In the future, Kaur has said she hopes to participate in the 2021 World Masters Games in Japan.

"I will continue to run and take part in competitions as long as I can. It gives me a lot of happiness when I run. I believe that age is no bar to chase and realize your dreams," Kaur told the Press Trust of India.

Ruthbru - - what an inspiring story! And I see you've changed your avatar, I'm glad.. Sorry, but I found your last one a bit scary with those clouds...

Karen, I'm not in school, when I talk about kids I mean my kids 🙂

Ruth, I love, love these stories! My dream is to meet Kaur one day, maybe even in Japan. My father did live to 96 and my grandmother to 99. They both avoided fried food.

I was on my bike for about an hour to go to the animal shelter. We are thinking of getting a dog. DD and I had a chance to meet one and go walk with it in the forest.

Tomorrow we were planning to go on a hike but since I'm supposed to prep for my colonoscopy on Monday, I think I will skip the hike. I do have good news on the endometrial front. Since I reduced my dosage of Tamoxifen, my endometrial lining has shrunk 0.2mm.

Yea, Heidi, on the lining shrinkage. Dogs are lots of fun & keep you entertained and moving both. Which I know because we temporarily have two dogs. DS is out of town until late Wednesday and we are doggie sitting. We went on a couple walks yesterday, have already gone on one this morning & several more are in the works before the day is done. I tried to do a toning DVD but that did not work out so well because they'd come lay on top of me whenever I tried to do floor work!!

Dogs are definitely good for a walking companion.

Wow102 and running and throwing a javelin. Amazing.

I had to mow the lawn today so 45 minutes of that. I should have done the back yard too, but I was hot and tired so that will probably be tomorrows exercise.

    Hi Everyone!

Heidi I am so glad to hear that the dosage adjustment helped! That is good news.

Ruth thanks for reminding me that I'm not even close to old yet, tho sometimes I feel it. I have a student teacher this year; she is 22. She is young young young. I like her a lot- she is sweet and smart. But it's a surprise to me that I'm older than her mom.

Life1963, I definetely had terrible joint aches on the AIs. Much better body comfort on Tamoxifen, I've found. Is that an option for you?

Wonderland, I hope that things have settled down for you and everyone is safe.

So, a new yoga studio opened in my town. It's so close by I decided to try it. So far, eh. The teacher today was very sweet, and I really liked her hands on adjustments. But the class was too slow! I'm not looking for relaxation as my exercise first thing in the morning- at the end of the day it's nice to go restorative, but not at 10AM. Anyway, at the end of class I was returning my props to the shelves. A rather burly man was talking to the teacher and blocking the entrance back into the studio where I left my mat. He was doing something with his arms so I tried to go around him. He clocked me right in the face. I thought I'd gotten a bloody nose, but it was just that weird tingling broken nose feeling. Needless to say, I'm not feeling ecstatic about the space. I paid $45 for 30 days unlimited so I'm going to get my $$ worth, but the universe isn't giving me the feeling I should be there!!

Dogs are a great walking companion if they are the right size!!! I have a St. Bernard...she is too big for me to walk if she sees another dog......If I ever get another dog, it will be one I can walk/run with.

Ruth, thanks for the heads up on 102 year old woman runner - so inspiring. Wonderland, thinking of you et al in SC. HeidiHill, excellent results on dosage reduction with positive shift. Life1963, I feel for you - I could not tolerate letrozole side effects, my only luck is that I had a choice with no nodal involvement. 2FUN, how is that anastrozole exercise group you joined? Falconer, I get it on 10am restorative and like a wap up the side of the head to that door blocking dude.

I'm back at my teaching gigs, low options on bodybalance and have consult on Thursday afternoon for MRI. I'm feeling well rested. Just heading out to teach Pilates at the spa and then at diner hour - back to spa for a members barbecue as they have asked us freelancers to attend to smooze and mingle. Son still with us and DH taking him to uni on Thursday. Have a good ending to the weekend everyone!

I ran a 5k Saturday evening Heroes for Heroes to honor First Responders who passed away in 9/11. It was followed with a 49 flight climb. The firefighters ran in full gear both the 5K and the climb. Hats off to them. I only ran the 5K. Lol this morning I was energetic and I ran a 5k for Best Buddies. I'm feeling great. Hope all you ladies have a great weekend.

I feel sorry for those of you who are experiencing poison ivy. Yikes

Anyone have an opinion on a crossover SUV? Drove the RAV 4and the Rogue so far.

LB, hope the DS has a good transition back. Good to know you're feeling rested. Keep us posted on MRI results.

Vargadoll how did you do in the storm? Hope all is ok.

Life - I had every s/e in the books on AIs, including horrible joint and muscle pain. When I was ready to stop them completely, as an alternative my onc suggested I take a one month “vacation” and stop taking my letrozole for 30 days. What a difference! The s/e diminished after a week or so, and by the end of the month I almost felt normal. The best thing was that once I started up taking letrozole again, it took months for the s/e to kick in again. With my onc’s blessing I ended up taking 4 “vacations” during my letrozole years. If not for those vacations, I think I would have stopped letrozole early. One big help - my onc is also a b/c survivor and admitted that she too needed the occasional “vacation” to get through her time.

Falconer - as for crossovers, we’re on our 3rd Subaru. We’ve had two Outbacks and one Crosstrek. The Outback is a bit larger and a bit more luxurious than the Crosstrek, so depending on your needs one might be better for you than the other. We live in the mountains so AWD is a necessity. Love my Subarus

Heidi - check out adult dogs at your local shelter. They’re so much easier to integrate into the family and so much less work than a puppy. Also, you know the exact personality you’re getting with an adult dog. If you’re not sure you’re ready for a permanent dog, you can always foster a rescue dog and use that experience to decide whether you’re ready to take the plunge.

I walked a bit at our local Fngerlakes Fiber Festival. went with DD. I took her for the first time 21 years ago as a month old! We met a really nice woman who somehow connected with DD and gave her a drop spindle kit for meditstion/mindfulness. I ran around last night till 2am trying to catch a mouse in my bedroom. Still didn't get it! I wentered to an interesting body work class called TMR. It was a lot of info, but we'll see if it has any impact on my students.

Falconer I have a 2012 honda CRV. Got a good price on it used. I like it. It's comfortable, moderately roomy. A little noisy inside.

Good job to all the runners.

Lb, let us know how u r doing

Falconer, I love my Subaru cross trek. Great in the snow and a small car but doesn’t feel like one. First, I had a lime green hybrid, but traded it in because the gas mileage savings did not off set the taxes my state charges for owning a hybrid. Now I have the bright blue one and the gas mileage is about the same as the hybrid.

I want to give a shout out to my friends in North Carolina . Both of them experienced extensive damage to their homes. One of the ladies was allowed to return to her home but it's inhabitable. The other isn't allowed to return to her home due to flooding and downed power lines. Both are thankful they evacuated and thankful for their lives. Best of luck to all of you affected by this hurricane.

I started developing double vision this afternoon. Any reading material further than 6 in is doubled and blurred. Do any of you have knowledge on this subject? During chemo I did experience blurred vision after TCHP treatment # 3 . It started to slowly improve once chemo stopped 3 months ago. This is the first time I've experienced double vision. My medical oncologist did tell me that Taxotere can effect vision but it's been almost 3 months since chemo ended. I'm not freaking out but I would welcome some feedback. Thanks

Ruth- the pound looks life fun. I think you need to have rhythm to do it. Sadly I have none, but I wish I did.

I Jane been Kangoo jumping and walking the last 3 days. I feel like I am continuing to put on weight. Just switched to Exemestane from tamoxifen so wonder if that is why this is happening. Maybe will intensify my workouts.

I am thinking of those who have damaged/destroyed homes from the hurricane. Prayers to all

DD#2 is back home. She left yesterday and I miss her already. Gd willing I'm going to see her during winter vacation which...so far fares are outrageous, but a Mom has to do what a Mom has to do!!!

Seeking advice and input - I had my 6 month check up with my medical onc....yes after 12+ years he still sees me every 6 months! Today he mentioned Zometa - every 6 months, IV infusion for 2 years.....said its good for my osteoporosis and would decrase by risk of recurrence by 1-2%. When I was on AI's I took Actonel. I quit Actonel when I quit AIs. A couple years ago, my PCP said she would rather me wait till I'm in my 70s to take biophosphonates....I'm glad she had so much confidence in me. Well she retired and I have a new PCP. I need to talk to her. Onc explained all side effects. I would have to have any dental work done before I go on Zometa. Really not sure what I want to do. I've had side effects on almost every Rx I've taken since Dx. Any thoughts out there? Who has done the Zometa infusions? I'm not thrilled about being in the infusion center again! Visit - all looked good. Now just need confirmation from labs.

A bc friend from way back when was just put in hospice....it makes me so damn sad.....

    Sweet dreams...
