mickey- I count house cleaning as exercise. I would rather run 10 miles then do a thorough house cleaning

Took a nap. Since it was nice out and I am not supposed to drive for 12 hours, I convinced DH to swing by DS's house and we took the puppies for a fun walk in the park. I am now vegging out again.
OK, for those who might benefit; here is the secret for a non-horrible colonoscopy prep (this was told to me by a nurse). When you get your instructions, it will tell you to eat a restricted diet two days before the procedure & have a liquid diet the day before. Instead of doing that, do the restricted diet THREE days out, and do a liquid diet for the TWO days before the procedure (perhaps TMI, but that way when you take all the laxative stuff, you will have to go to the bathroom alot, but just clear liquid will come out, so there's no cramping, nausea etc. it goes from being gross to being an annoying way to spend a night). The colonoscopy itself is a piece of cake (oh wait, that comes after ).

Had my exchange today and am resting in a hotel overnight as my home is 1.5 hrs away and didn't want the bumpy ride and the 83 y.o. mother who now lives with us and would be having a cow over my condition and not let me rest!
I am good. They only used a high strength Tylenol during surgery (plus anesthesia of course) and I am just taking Tylenol now. I do have the hard stuff, but if I can do okay with Tylenol (which I did at MX and first exchange ) so much the better.
I am supposed to see the PS in two weeks...but that is New Year's Eve, so don't see her until Jan 2, Yikes! I do have emergency contact and my PCP at home knows I may reach out to her...but have all good thoughts so far!
Only walked 7K, so far, but that seems okay given the procedure...walking up and down the hotel hallway, and was okay enough to go into supermarket with DH on way home from hospital so we could have some food supplies...the room has a living area with wet bar so I am good with the lite fare we were able to get.
Take care all, TT

Glad you are out of surgery & doing okay, TT.

Ruth, thanks for the tip, and glad it went well!
TT, glad you are doing ok. Get some rest!
Did a nice long hike yesterday but barely got away from my desk today....thinking of walking after dinner with hubby...

TT - be a good patient and don't over do it....glad went well with surgery
Jo - great tradition - when my kids were little we used to buy gifts and take to the local Children's Hospital. I have also adopted families....now I donate to an organization who provides gifts for families in needs.... Our family never went overboard with gifts....birthdays, Chanukah.....
Ruth - glad the colonoscopy went well...
Cleaning out the hall closet....can't believe how much stuff is in there that is new, unused that I forgot I had and a few things that I bought multiples......now to figure out what to keep, what to give away...Need to finish up tonight and do bill paying

karen- my family never went overboard with gifts either. Some of the things I enjoy the most about the holidays or spending time with family and friends, helping others in need and the decorations. I love driving around my neighborhood just looking at all the homes beautifully decorated. I'm at Mount Sinai Medical Center waiting for my annual physical with my primary.
Ruth- thanks for the tips regarding the colonoscopy. I believe my test is 2 in 3 months.
TT- glad everything went well.

Doing well and while I was in bed from 9:30 until 7am, really only slept from 10-5...got up at 5 for bathroom and meds and then rested in bed until 7.
Taking another night at the hotel before returning home tomorrow...this was the plan. Feeling good, but going slow. Don't plan to leave hotel today, but do walk the hallway each hour for 5 minutes -- per Drs instruction to start walking day of surgery and that will be my main form of exercise, plus stationary bike, until released to arm exercises in 4 weeks. Already miss my yoga/pilates studio pals!
All good otherwise, still just Tylenol, so I am very happy with that.
Even after five surgeries is always is a shock at the weight of a coffee pot or quart bottle of water that you don't think about...until you do.
Also, trip to supermarket on way home from hospital, sort of used the cart as a walker and/or blocking device to give me stability and make sure no one crashed into my...so no super hero here!
Cool but sunny here in central Va, Happy Tuesday, TT

Good luck with your physical, Jo. I agree about health care. My DD has crohn's (she's 23) and just got an insurance denial for a blood test that was deemed not medically necessary to the tune of 2000.00!!! It's hard because she' an adult and so she needs to make the calls to figure it all out etc. and she's overwhelmed at her future and financial aspects of a chronic disease..
Did run 3+ miles today - temp was 23 degrees, I thought no problem, but the wind! Wind chill made it feel like 11 - which keeps you moving! .

mickey- you are so right. Your DD needs to get on the phone and start talking to insurance people. $2,000 how ridiculous! Especially for a young person who already has Crohn's disease. 23 degrees. I'm going to run 3 miles tonight in 70 degree temperature. It is so beautiful outside today.

It is gorgeous here too. It was 47, sunny & no wind! This morning I went to POUND & then called SIL to pry out the information of when they planned to show up and how long they plan to stay (they are VERY welcome, but not good about making or relaying plans!). After I got the infro, I went shopping and then dognapped the puppies, met up with my two dogged friend and we all took a fabulous long walk (sweatshirts, no gloves, hats or anything!). Tonight is my Book Club......so any weight lost in the last couple days will soon be found!

ruth- I agree with you I like details when family or friends are visiting. I love their visits but I like to know when they're arriving and approximately how long they plan on staying. I have family members who aren't always good at relaying important information. Enjoy your book club

I have walked at lunch both yesterday and today. We have pretty mild temps, 40s, and sun to make it pleasant.
Mickey my 22 year old son has Crohn's too. I can relate that sometimes he is overwhelmed also about how to get to adulthood. We once got a denial for crp test and I finally figured out on my own that the hospital coded it incorrectly. It can be frustrating. If you want to PM me what got denied, i may have some insight.

Two more days of work and then its officially winter break for me Thursday is our central team meeting (there are about 12 - 15 of us) and we are having our "holiday" party.....breakfast potluck and white elephant - I think thats what its called - where you all get numbers then can choose to pick a gift or take a gift from someone who already picked.....I got a large bag of Ghiradelli chocolate squares and a large vanilla candle.
Sweet dreams

Part Two of the Walking Women's Holiday Celebration. The guy in the crazy cat-themed suit is the DH of our hostess. I don't believe there's ever a dull moment at their house! Dance2fit tonight.

LOL on the piece of cake, Ruth.
Also had my colonoscopy several weeks ago and they had to remove a polyp. Fortunately it was benign, but I could not do an ab workout for quite some time. I also started out without anesthesia as I wanted to be able to watch the monitor. My insides were squeaky clean! My screen time did not last too long and I had to be put to sleep. They also botched up my veins, which all decided to hide from being so dehydrated.
TT, speedy recovery to you.
Easy Zumba on YouTube yesterday.

For me, this is the most far-reaching study from SABCS this year. No, not the new therapies, but the Norwegian study using an exercise intervention during treatment. Results are summarized in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX5RcpatmN8
But the most important information for us is about Minute 5. That is the long-term effects of failing to exercise during and after treatment with life expectancy reduced not from the cancer itself, but from heart disease.
This is enough to get me to lace up those running shoes. - Claire
p.s. Just finished with the pudding-steaming operation. Woo-hoo!!!!!

claire- I'm going to check out your link. I remain a firm believer in exercise during chemo and post chemo. I think we should exercise everyday. It's okay to take off now and then. LOL Tonight I'm running a 3.7 mile run aptly named the Jingle Bell run. We have to dress as Santa or elves. I might post a picture for no other reason than to embarrass my nephews and nieces. I can hear it now, " Oh, No, Aunt Jo you didn't." Personally, I like elves. Keep Moving

Post a picture here too, Jo. Doing goofy things helps keep us young!
Zumba, dog walking & yoga for me today.

I'm officially on winter break . We had our central team meeting and celebration (only 8 out of 12) joined in the white elephant. I ended up with Monopoly and Mouth from Goonies (whoever that is). My team mate who got the Monopoly said she hoped that whoever got it would play Monopoly. I got my Monopoly for my 9th birthday in 1965. I still have it minus the box in the crawl space. If I remember correctly I bought my older daughter Monopoly or her 9th b'day (30 years after mine). I told my team mate I would play it (her kids ae 2 and 4) , but in reality, doubt I will. DH and I really aren't game people, plus Monopoly really is more fun with more people. Younger DD does not want it and older DD said she will think about it. Thinking I'll give it away if she doesn't want it. Feel silly if I try to return it, specially when I don't know where she got it.
Thinking I might have a sinus infection......pressure at the side of my nose, teeth hurt and queasy. Starting on Flonase today and saline nasal spray as well as adding guiaifenson (sp) on a consistent basis. Will give it to Monday and then decide if I should go to my pcp. I know that they don't like to Rx antibiotics for sinus anymore...plus I don't have drainage, never mind anything colorful.
Love my new Fitbit Versa, but I have not been good with the steps. It's a pretty watch (expensive if that's all I use it for) I haven't walked during the school day, but some mornings and in the evenings with DH.
Tomorrow heading to donate a few bags of clothes and household items to a place that provides clothing and household goods to their clients at no cost. Also have a couple bags of food - tuna, chips and a few other things.
Getting ready for evening walk with DH. Best go bundle up as I've been cold at night walk...its 34 so not all that cold temp wise.
Sweet dreams.

ruth- The race started at 6:30 and within 15 minutes we were in the middle of a thunderstorm. I turned around after 2 miles. It was still a lot of fun. Adults acting like children. None of us cared. We were all drenched but having such a good time. Most of the group hit the bar afterwards for hot toddies.

Thank you Claire for the information. It is very motivating for me. Jo, love the idea. Ran 3 miles and then did weights yesterday at the gym.

Jo..great job! Love the outfit! I treated myself to a new xmas running shirt this month too! Couldnt stop myself
I havent worked out since Wed! Crazy week. But I survived! Daycare Xmas party today and it was so much fun. Truly nothing better than working with kids at Christmas time. Their joy and amazement! are priceless. Off until the 2nd. Tonight i am relaxing with my jammies and wine!

Runnermum- where did you find that t-shirt? What a great shirt . It is fun being around children during the holidays. It takes a special person to work in daycare .

Great pics, ladies! Cleaned all day yesterday and then went to gym and walked 3 miles and did weights. Today is a day of rest - watching football while wrapping gifts and getting in some holiday cooking. My team (Patriot's) uncharacteristically not a good play off place. We've been so spoiled here for many years - not used to this situation!
