Love the outfits, Ruth, and the puppy pics from you and Jo. Great to get a break, Lilacblue. Have fun with your son. I will think about that 8K in Florence.
Just a gorgeous ski and mountain pic, salsa!!
Have been dialling down the exercise because of neck and shoulder problems. Doing dance fitness and stretching videos on YouTube.

heidi- what is happening with your neck and shoulder?

I subbed today (and will again tomorrow, for a young teacher whose grandmother died). I am VERY impressed how organized she is! She teaches Reading & Literature and has a really busy schedule......so I am tired!! I will go to POUND & yoga before crashing.

Went to a weight class today - arms feel heavy - work tomorrow with a Christmas lunch and a yankee swap - will try to fit in a morning walk.

mickey- what is a Yankee Swap? Is that similar to a Secret Santa?

One week left till winter break!!! Since I don't work Fridays, only 4 more days...and I'm more than ready. I just need to finish up writing reports and a few IEP meetings, so hopefully the week shouldn't be too hard, but better not talk too soon. I also have to meet with my intern and do my practicum student's evaluation so that will take a few hours on Monday. I really like supervising graduate students and mentoring new school psychologist....I learn so much from them as well.
Got a Fitbit Versa with the gray strap....love it....you can choose what face or background including putting a picture on it, so I have roses from my DH as the background. Now I just need to get back to 15K steps/day. Hopefully when I"m visiting daughter over winter break, I'll get more than enough steps in.
My aunt who broke her vertebrae last month is doing much better....she is in rehab and can sit up and walk short walks with a walker...she still needs to regain use of her right side. When I talked to her the other day she sounded pretty good. I trashed my leg in college when I was 19 and my aunt was remembering me being laid up and if I could do it so can she!!! It was a hard summer and took a long time to heal....The only good thing to come out of it.....its how I met my husband.....My leg wasn't healing after 7 months, so I had a bone graft done during winter break. In January, I was on crutches but no cast, since I had steel plate on my leg.....Waiting in the hall for sociology class, my now DH came up to me and asked me what I did to my leg....then he came and sat down next to me in class!! I was shocked...he was so handsome....well he still is all these years later Next month will be 44 years since I met him
Had a hip xray last Friday as I've been having groin pain for a few months. The tendon is tight but everything with the hip is normal (not counting the osteopenia in the hip)...doctor said if I want to go to PT she will give me a referral, but I'll pass and just do stretches at home. DH showed me stretches to do the other day, but I over did it. So relieved that its nothing....I was scared to go to the doctor for fear it would be something awful but finally went because the pain wasn't going away. Now just waiting to see the Nephrologist in January regarding the stage 3 CKD to see if there is some weird cause. I'm suspecting it is not something weird and he'll just monitor me. BC, the gift that keeps on giving.....pretty sure the chemo, radiation, ibuprofen and Nexium all contributed to the kidney disease.
Heidi, hope its nothing serious with the neck and shoulder
Ruth - love seeing the walking group pictures...
Wonder - you are so talented!
Sweet dreams everyone...

karen- what a great story on how you met your DH. Sweet.

What a sweet story about how you met DH, Karen!
0 -
Karen - your DH sounds like he was a very sweet young man!
Jo - a Yankee swap is when each person brings a gift (usually with a 10-15 max) and everyone takes a number. Gifts are opened in order of the numbers and the person opens the gift and decides to either keep it or swap it with someone else's gift. The person who has #1 gets to chose again at the end when all the gifts are opened. We have a lot of laughs with it!
Not sure if I'll have time to exercise today, but if I do it will be a walk.

mickey- I'm having a holiday dinner next week. I'm going to ask all my guests to bring a gift. Sounds like a lot of fun.
By the 5K Saturday and Sunday morning. Looking forward to it. I'm receiving herceptin and perjeta today. I only have two more treatments and then I'm finished. I'm happy that I'll be finished and a little anxious. Being hormone negative and HER2positive it's wait and see. No treatments unless there is a reoccurence. Have a great weekend.

As I prepare for my 2nd exchange on Monday, I have been gathering my important documents and reminders from last surgeries and other items...found this in the pile of items, written a year ago thanksgiving when I was still deep into the throes of the incorrect surgery that took place:
thanksgiving thankfulness:
I am thankful I can email Whippetmom (Breast Implant Sizing thread) and she always finds time to email me back.
I am thankful I am not diseased anymore.
I am thankful I only have to look at my potentially failed reconstruction once a day - when getting out of the shower.
I am thankful my rcn is man made and has nothing to do with the nice beautiful person I am.
I am thankful my physical activity, mind and ability has not been affected by any of this.
I am thankful I am a stronger person from this.

Trntab- thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving thankfulness. Very beautiful.

Very nice, TT!
I subbed again today (argh, the 6th grade apparently thinks that Christmas Vacation has already started!). I went to yoga & am contimplating a little tiny drop of time on the treadmill.
0 -
trmtab- good luck on your second exchange on Monday.
0 -
TT, good luck on the exchange.
Jo, go, go, go! You are in the home stretch of treatment. Wow
Karen, love your love story!
My neck pain is probably due again to a mammogram I had. I didn't want it after really bad neck issues the last time three years ago. They hijacked me and I ended up doing it and thought what did I get so worked up for. But then my neck started hurting again...ugh.
0 -
heidi- I'm glad to be in the home stretch. Hope your neck starts feeling better. And hope you're mammogram is clean.
0 -
Yikes, hope you feel better Heidi!
I went to Step It Up & Dance this morning, and have started my "Extreme Pre-Christmas Weight-loss Plan".....in other words, I am doing the prep for Monday's colonoscopy .

Heidi - hope all is well for you soon! Jo, glad you are on the home stretch, way to go! Good luck Ruth, terrific weight loss plan - fun to enjoy the extra calories you deserve afterwards. Ran 3 miles today but then went to a Christmas party and pretty much blew it - need another 5 miles to work it off! Gave a very rich chocolaty cake to my DD who is finishing grad school this month. Easy to go down, hard to get off! Hey, you only live once!
0 -
mickey- congratulations to your daughter for finishing graduate school. Hooray. A 3 mile run is great. You should reward yourself. Chocolate cake no less. I don't know if I'm cursed or blessed. I don't have a sweet tooth. I absolutely detest the smell of chocolates. When I have a craving it's usually for a really good cheese. LOL
Ruth- I don't envy you your weight loss plan. You should generously reward yourself when it's all over.
0 -
Jo there is something wrong with you (hating chocolate). LOL. That is as puzzling to me as my friend who doesn’t like pizza.
Heidi, I hope your neck feels better soon.
Ruth they need to invent a more pleasant clean out experience, for sure. At least it negates some of the holiday calories.
TrmTab, good list of Thankfuls. I have been thinking of Ariana Grandes “Thank You,Next” song in terms of cancer.
I ended the week through Saturday with exactly 200 minutes on my Argus app, although at much milder intensity than my normal. I went for my first walk in a month at the lake yesterday but took the shorter loop. It was sunny and fun to see all the Canadian geese hanging out and flying into the small unfrozen spot in the middle. They made quite a ruckus arriving.

I don't like pizza either.....though part of me wonders if maybe it is because I've never tasted really, really good pizza... I will take a bite or two or even a slice if it really looks good and then always wonder, 'what's the fuss? It's only ok' at best...
I am trying to decide with type of fitbit or similar to ask Santa to bring me for Christmas. (not that I really celebrate Christmas, but, hey, Santa does... :-)) I want something comfortable enough to wear all the time, and very user friendly. I don't need the bells and whistles. TBH, I like the app on my iphone just fine, but the only problem is that I don't always have the iphone on me when I walk or exercise....oh and measuring swim laps would be nice, though I don't know if that is really possible. So, just starting my research, and any input would be appreciated.
Hope all are managing to get their exercise in this busy time of year. Next week will be crazy at work as we try to get ahead of a few big projects due in early January, before we shut down altogether beginning on the 23rd until after New Year's. I love having that time off without it counting against vacation and plan to do a lot of hiking (or snowshoeing if it snows again: there is a little snow on the ground right now but the weather forecasters are calling for warm, dry weather until after Christmas...)

Octo- I had a Fitbt Alta for several years but just upgraded to the Fitbit Versa as it is a smart watch....I got it about a week ago and by no means do I have it all figured out yet, but I do love the look of it. I bought it on eBay, brand new in the box and saved about 25%. I got one of the special edition models with a cool gray band. Costco has the on sale right now. I was able to pick my background face and put a picture of roses my DH gave me. I love the way it looks.
Thanks for all the sweet comments about how DH and I met.....I did my math wrong, January is only 43 years since we met (not 44). To whoever said he sounds like a great young man, my DH was touched by that!!! He is 63!! We have grown up together and been there for each through all the ups ad all the downs. He sure makes going through the journey called life so much easier. He is my rock!!!
Need to go to Costco today and I like going when they first open, but I texted DD#2 to see if she wanted anything and she asked if I could wait 3 hours till she got home from class. Of course I said yes, so now I'll be fighting the crowds. But I figure today is better than next Sunday. 11 days till I leave and 12 days till I get to wrap my arounds around her for a big hug!!!
Time to get busy in the house cleaning out a closet and finding all the goodies I've been given that I don't use to donate or use as a white elephant give at my central team meeting on Thursday...last day of work before winter vacation. Also need to send out a few holiday cards that I still send snail mail.
Have a great Sunday. Be back later. Hugs from Denver

I like my Fitbit Alta. Doesn't have more bells & whistles than I need. Although my next one might be the waterproof one.
I'm hungry!!!!! (I could never be someone who fasted/purged to lose weight!). I am going on the treadmill for 30 minutes & will do a pilates DVD before drinking the colonoscopy gunk.
0 -
Ruth-Ugh! Tomorrow the colonoscopy will be over and you can reward yourself. Aren't you totally wiped out afterwards?

Hello all!
What a crazy busy month! Holiday dinners, concerts and get togethers with friends, NDSU Bison football playoff games every weekend, Christmas shopping and the never-ending to-do list. 5 days of work until Xmas break...I think I can, I think I can...
Getting my runs in and classes at gym. Ran 5 miles today along with 30 min of strength work. 36* in ND in December..it was awesome. Actually ran thru some water puddles! Tomorrow will run 3 and go to Abs, Back & Booty at gym. Hoping to to continue to get some good workouts in this week.
Great job to all on your workouts and exercise.
Ruth my first will be coming up in 2 yrs. Not looking forward to it...I get HANGRY when I don't eat!!

Up early on this dark, wet Monday and home alone. DH stayed over after driving to DS to bring him home today after he turns in his last term project this morning. Hope it all goes well Ruth. Thinking of you TrmTab and hope the exchange goes smooth. TwoHobbies, nice to read of you feeling better out on your shorter walk. HeidiHill, neck feeling a little better as we head into this week?
Covering two Pilates classes one in morning and afternoon in different towns and back out tonight for BodyBalance. Trying to sneek in present wrapping, the last of the cards to the post office, learning release #83 and getting house to look half way tidy. Plumbing is acting up as it always does at this time of year. Feel like I'm on the hamster wheel of Christmas run-up and DS has 20th b'day on the 23rd. On top of it, poor sleep last night - nightmare about the orange fuckwit who tweets about rats - onwards!

Neck is getting looser. Down to a baby aspirin a day. Spent the day cooking (looking down) and neck didn't hurt much.
Karen, counting down with you. LB, DDs birthday is on the 28th. Mickey, big congrats to your DD! Octogirl, the Ionic is supposed to be good for swimming but haven't used it for laps, just stand-up paddling in the Mediterranean. The Versa looks nice and is also for swimming.
Will probably get on the gym treadmill today and look down on the Christmas market below. The last time I was on the treadmill I was looking out for soldiers with automatic weapons. Didn't see any as they had in France where we visited some markets in the Alsace a week ago.

lilacblue-I am concerned about the future of the ACA. I am self employeed. Even when I was in phenomenal shape when I hit 50 my health insurance dropped me like a hot potato. I finally found insurance with a 60 to 40% coverage with a high out of pocket. If it wasn't for ObamaCare I would be bankrupt now. I feel strongly we need to fix it not destroy it. It's extremely difficult to find insurance on the open market when you're healthy. Can you imagine finding Insurance on an open-market market with a cancer diagnosis. Or any pre-existing condition? Enough ranting I need to get ready for work. Also I had three episodes of severe leg cramps last night. Every few weeks I experience a leg cramp but never three in one night.
Ruth-good luck today
Runnermum- I'm with you the holidays can be exhausting. I adopted 4 families for the holidays so I did my Christmas shopping early through Amazon. I don't buy for my family at Christmas . When my nieces and nephews were younger we would research how we would spend their XMAS money from Aunt Jo. Each of them would choose from the Angel Tree, Miami Herald Wish Book or a charity. Each of them would choose their gift and write a lovely letter wishing them the best for the holidays. My 8 nieces and 8 nephews took this task very seriously. I am proud to say they continued this tradition with their children. I have an extremely large family so they are not deprived of gifts. I started this tradition with them because when they were younger they would receive so many gifts and there was absolutely no appreciation..
I did Run 2 5Ks Saturday and Sunday morning.
Enough of my ranting. Have a wonderful day

The colonoscopy is in the bag. All went well, and I already drank some juice & ate a muffin at the hospital and had a McDonald's cheeseburger & milk shake on the way home (so much for keeping off the prep weight). I am going to take a nap now but will come back later with the secret to having an easy (but still annoying) colonoscopy prep.
Neat tradition with the kids of your family, Jo!

Wow, that is a very cool tradition, Jo. How lucky are your nieces and nephews to have this taught to them. Impressed with the not one but two 5k's!! LilacBlue - I'm tired just reading your posts. Hope you plan some self-care! Glad your OK Ruth and that 's in the rear-view mirror.
Had a nice family Christmas part this weekend - but have a lot to work off! Did a step class and some weights afterwards today. Now going to clean up the house - yuck. I do find if I post here I'm better at follow-through!
